Updated November 4 2024. Keep the gray at bay. Delay the gray. These are phrases that describe PHYTO RE30, touted to be the first anti-grey hair treatment that brings back color to your hair. At the heart of this cosmetic is the RE30 peptide, which I'll discuss below. I was alerted to this anti-grey cosmetic by Pia who left a comment in my review of Hair Regenerers by Serovital. This PHYTO RE30 review will focus on research. There is NO fluff and NO hype. Is PHYTO RE30 a scam or does it really work? Here is the evidence. You decide.
How Does PHYTO RE30 Work
PHYTO RE 30 works two different ways, according to this YouTube video below:
- Produce melanin in hair.
- Stops graying process by hydrogen peroxide.
Both claims are pretty bold. Let's investigate the evidence.
What Does The Name Mean?
If I were to guess, the RE refers to reverse, as in reverse grey hair. As for number 30, I have no idea what that refers to. Maybe because each bottle will last only 30 days?
PHYTO RE 30 Research
PHYTO.com mentions these two clinical studies:
- Clinical test on 32 volunteers for 3 months
- Clinical test on 32 volunteers for 12 months
I also saw no before and after pictures on the PHYTO.com website either. If it worked so well, you'd think they would post pictures.
PHYTO RE 30 Ingredients
Each bottle of PHYTO RE30 contains these ingredients:
Water | Alcohol Denat | Glycerin |
Lecithin | Fragrance | Phenoxyethanol |
Panthenol | Pyridoxine HCL | Decyl Glucoside |
Chlorphenesin | Triethanolamine | Ethyl Ester of Hydrolyzed Silk |
Maltodextrin | Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20 | Tulipa Gesneriana Flower Extract |
Citric Acid | 1393A |
Read the table from left to right. This tells you which ingredients are present the most and least. For example, since water is the first ingredient, it makes up most of PHYTO RE30. The ingredient is called “1393A” last, so it makes up the least part of the product.
Next, let's break down the ingredients are and pay special attention to:
- How the ingredients relate to melanin production in hair
- Which of these might be the active ingredients in RE30
I'll leave out the first ingredient – water -because we all know what that is.
Denatured Alcohol
They call this alcohol denat on the PHYTO RE30 ingredients list. This is alcohol that has chemicals added to it to stop people from drinking it (think alcoholics). I doubt it has any effects on hair re-pigmentation.
Glycerin
Glycerol, also called glycerol, is used in cosmetics to prevent evaporation. It has no role in PHYTO RE 30s anti-grey effects.
Lecithin
Lecithin is a fatty substance found in cosmetics and even some supplements. Like alcohol and glycerin, it is a supporting ingredient. When RE30 is rubbed into the scalp, lecithin helps the other ingredients spread well.
Fragrance
The fragrance simply makes the product smell nice. They don't tell us what the ingredients in the fragrance are.
Phenoxyethanol
As you can see, ethanol (alcohol) is part of this name. The Environmental Working Group website tells us phenoxyethanol is used a preservative. It likely plays no role in restoring melanin to hair follicles.
Panthenol
This is another name for vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid. I often see B vitamins added to hair growth supplements. The Environmental Working Group website tells us panthenol may be used as a skin conditioner. In this case, it may help the scalp feel good after PHYTO RE30 is rubbed into the scalp.
Some researchers have noted taking pantothenic acid supplements can increase the growth phase of hair follicles. This tells us the vitamin plays a role in hair growth.
Pyridoxine HCL
Also called vitamin B6 and pyridoxine hydrochloride. This is another B vitamin found in hair skin and nails supplements. Like all vitamins, B6 does many things, including helping maintain strong hair.
Here's Pyrixoxine HCL on Amazon
Decyl Glucoside
The Environmental Working Group website describes decyl glucoside as a cleansing agent often used in shampoos, bubble baths, and body washes. It helps those products to make foam. It appears to have no role in follicle melanin production.
Chlorphenesin
Chlorphenesin has antibacterial properties and is likely used in cosmetics as a preservative. It has also been used as a muscle relaxant but not used much anymore. It appears to play no role in melanin production.
Triethanolamine
Triethanolamine (tri-ethyl-an-oh-la-mine) is an emulsifier so it helps the other ingredients mix well together. It may also be a foaming agent.
US patent number US4508706A describes how triethanolamine was involved in the process of increasing melanin production in skin and hair. Triethanolamine does not cause melanin production. Rather, it's a part of a process that might do this.
I don't believe triethanolamine plays any direct role in PHYTO RE30's effects. It's used to help the other ingredients mix together well.
Ethyl Ester of Hydrolyzed Silk
This is just a silk protein. It's used in cosmetics like shampoos and skin conditioners. It may add strength to hair but has no effect on melanin production.
Maltodextrin
Maltodextrin is a type of sugar and is often used as a food additive and sweetener. In cosmetics, it helps the other ingredients combine together well.
An article appearing in Cosmetic Business described a “tan accelerator” composed of maltodextrin and Mucuna pruriens seed extract. This combination formed a compound, called “Melactiva” which is in some tanning lotions.
This tan accelerator also contained acetyl hexapeptide-1 which is an ingredient in SeroVital Hair Regeneres, a product also touted to reverse gray hair.
Maltodextrin, by itself, probably has minimal- effects on stimulating melanocytes' melanin production.
As an aside, mucuna pruriens (also called velvet bean) is sometimes also used in testosterone supplements like Nugenix and weight loss supplements like QuickTrim.
PHYTO RE30 Video Review
Here's a video review I created to help you understand the research. The video summarizes the research on the active ingredient. If you watch the video first, it will make all the stuff in the next section easier to digest 🙂
Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20
I believe Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 is the key anti-grey ingredient in PHYTO RE30. Could this be the “Peptide RE30” that's said to be the active ingredient?
I think it might be.
There is a clinical study on Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 and the restoration of hair color. Let's break the study down so you can understand it better. This may get a bit technical so skip to the next section for the lowdown.
The Lucus Myer Cosmetics company published a clinical study that found Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 could increase melanin production by 39% in human melanin-producing cells (melanocytes).
Researchers also state Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 increased the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes by 50%. Melanosomes are little bundles of melanin. Keratinocytes are skin cells that make keratin, an important protein in hair, skin, and nails. This could lead to darker hair and skin.
These researchers also stated Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 reduced hydrogen peroxide by 30%. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) generates free radicals. Too much hydrogen peroxide in hair follicles can cause hair to turn gray and white.
And if things couldn't get any better, the researchers also state after 7 days of use, the bulbs of hair follicles increased pigmentation by 35%. In other words, they started churning out darker-colored hair again.
Recap Study Results
Here are the cliff notes of the study:
- 39% improved melanin production in human melanocytes
- 50% improvement in melanosome transfer to keratinocytes
- 30% reduction in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)
- 35% improvement in hair follicles melanin pigmentation
All this sounds great, but…
But, There's a Problem
There's a problem… The results tell us what happened when cells were exposed to Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20.
Humans are more complicated than cells sitting in a Petri dish.
Another possible problem: The researchers state, “catalase was decreased.” Catalase is the enzyme that breaks down hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Reduced catalase levels are thought to cause hair to turn white.
However, they also said there were 30% lower levels of hydrogen peroxide. That doesn't compute. If catalase levels decreased, this would lead to higher hydrogen peroxide levels.
In other words, low catalase levels = more hydrogen peroxide. More hydrogen peroxide leads to more gray /white hair. So how did both catalase and hydrogen peroxide decrease? If catalase levels went down, this would be expected to cause higher hydrogen peroxide levels.
This doesn't make sense to me. If this is true, it may be other antioxidants in RE30 (like Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20) helped keep hydrogen peroxide levels low.
Now, let's look at the human part of this study.
The Human Part Of The Study
These same researchers also mention a 3-month investigation involving 15 men with prematurely gray hair. The men applied a 2% solution of Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 to their heads each day for 3 months. The researchers say this resulted in “a decrease in L Factor by 5.3.”
What the heck is “L factor?”
I have no idea. I searched for the answer and even consulted a former esthetician (my niece) but could not figure out what it is. If anyone knows, I'm all ears.
Regardless, L factor is irrelevant because the researchers did NOT state the men had darker hair color. That's the REAL test of Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 ability to improve melanin production.
Remember, the study lasted 3 months. That's long enough to see improvements in hair pigmentation.
Study Problems
I was not impressed with this study for the following reasons:
- All researchers are associated with Lucas Myer Cosmetics.
- The study is published as an abstract. Abstracts are summaries of research – not full research papers. Abstracts don't necessarily have to be peer-reviewed.
- The human part of the study only had 15 men. That's not much.
- The study only included men. What about women? How do we know Palmitoyl tetrapeptide-20 also works for women with gray hair?
Tulipa Gesneriana Flower Extract
Tulipa gesneriana is also known as the garden tulip. Like all plants, tulips have many extracts. What extract of tulips is in PHYTO RE30? I am not sure. The PHYTO company tells us tulip extract is used to strengthen hair from the roots.
Citric Acid
Citric acid, found in citrus fruits, is also called an alpha hydroxy acid. I'm not sure what role it plays in PHYTO RE30 although in cosmetics, it may be used to promote skin peeling. In theory, this might improve cell turnover, which might help the melanin re-pigment process. I'm speculating here of course.
1393A
I have no idea what the ingredient called “1393A “is. The company does not give any indication of what this stuff is. Searching online for “1393A” does not reveal anything about it.
What Is Greyverse?
Greyverse is an anti-gray product made by Lucus Myer Cosmetics. It's a combination of:
- Glycerin
- Water
- Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20 (PTP-20 / GrayVerse)
I believe Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20 may be the secret sauce in Re30. Known as Grayverse, this compound is though to reverse gray hair by stimulating melanin production.
It appears that PHYTO Re30 is the 1st finished product to contain GreyVerse (Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20).
Who Makes PHYTO RE 30
PHYTO Botanical Power is the name of the company. The Better Business Bureau tells us the company address is 301 Cottontail Ln Somerset, NJ 08873-1132. This address corresponds to Barrett Distribution Centers. Barrett Distribution may be where PHYTO cosmetics are shipped from.
PHYTO BBB Rating
The Better Business Bureau did not have a rating for PHYTO Botanical Power when this review was updated.

How Much Does PHYTO RE 30 Cost?
A bottle of RE30 costs $58. Online, the price ranged from $40 to $60. A bottle will last you 1 month if you use it once per day. At $58/bottle, this comes to $696 per year.
Where To Buy PHYTO RE 30
RE 30 can be purchased directly from Phyto.com. Ulta Beauty has it too.
PHYTO RE30 Side Effects
I believe PHYTO RE30 is safe for most people. Here are a few things to consider when using this product.
- Start with less than recommended for the first week to see how you respond. Triethanolamine has been associated with skin irritation.
- Don't use it more than once per day.
- If you are pregnant or nursing, speak to your doctor first.
- Stop using the product at least 2 weeks before having surgery.
A dermatologist or esthetician may have additional insights.
PHYTO RE 30 FAQ
1 How Do You Use It?
Apply 8 sprays of RE30 to the head and massage into the roots. You can do this after shampooing or on dry hair. Do not rinse it off. Leave it on the scalp. Use once per day.
2 How Often Do You Use It?
PHYTO RE30 is to be used only once per day. Each bottle will last a month. Each bottle contains 1.69 fl. oz.
3 Does It Contain Sulfates?
The Phyto.com website tells us RE30 contains no sulfates, paraben, silicon, phthalates, petrochemicals, talc, or mineral oil. The product is also cruelty-free.
4 What's The Active Ingredient In PHYTO RE30?
I believe Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide 20 is the active ingredient. At least one published study on this substance shows it might reverse gray hair. See above for more on that investigation.
5 Does It Work Better With PHYTO Hair Vitamins?
The PHYTO company also makes a hair, skin, and nail supplement called PHYTO Phytophanere. The PHYTO Phytophanere supplement contains various foods providing a mixture of omega 3 and omega 6 fats along with vitamins A, B, C and E.
Does RE30 work better if you also take PHYTO Phytophanere? Your guess is as good as mine. There is no proof either way.
6. Can RE30 Be Used By Redheads?
Probably, but I'm not sure. Red hair contains pheomelanin, which looks slightly different from the darker melanin pigment we usually see in hair and skin. I am not sure if RE30 research involved redheads.
PHYTO RE30 vs. Hair Regeneres
Hair Regeneres by SeroVital is another anti-gray product that tries to restore hair to its natural color.
One big difference is the price. Hair Regeners cost more ($99/month). Also, Hair Regeneres is a two-product system – a serum and dietary supplement – and you have to purchase both. That's an advantage to PHYTO RE30, which costs less and is just one product.
Lesser Expensive Options
Both of these cost less than RE30 and have the advantage of working faster. On the downside, these options only mask gray/white hair. Neither product restores natural melanin production to hair, as RE30 is claimed to do.
Even though the Control GX Shampoo is marketed to men, women can use it too. The video below gave some good tips on how to use it:
My Suggestions
If you want to try PHYTO RE30, I suggest only purchasing for 1-3 months. This should be long enough to see if it's working. If you don't see any changes in 3 months, I don't think longer time periods will make a difference. If it works, let me know.
PHTO RE30. Pro and Con
Here's a quick summary of what I liked and didn't like about RE30
Pro | Con |
Company says research has been conducted | No before / after pictures posted on company website |
Company has been around many years | Full clinical studies on product cannot be located |
Product is cruelty-free | Company has a poor BBB rating |
Product is expensive | |
Active ingredient seems to have limited proof |
These are my opinions. Your thoughts may be different.
Does PHYTO RE30 Work?
If it really works, PHYTO RE30 would be a game-changer. But I'm not ready to call it that just yet. For now, I remain skeptical of PHYTO RE30. I am intrigued but I want to see better evidence -and before and after pictures -proving it provides the results they say.

Bindu says
Hi Joe – What are some of the dietary supplements and food we can consume to delay/slow down greying?
Joe Cannon says
Hi Bindu, good question and Im honestly not sure. I have yet to find good research on any specific food or supplement to slow down graying of hair. That said, if hair goes gray because of free radical damage, then it makes sense to add more antioxidant-rich foods to the diet. This includes fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds and some spices.
Glutathione is an antioxidant substance which we make less of as we get older. One way to boost glutathione levels is by taking an amino acid called N acetyl Cysteine.
In theory, augmenting glutathione might help hair but I have yet to see good proof boosting gluathone levels reverses gray hair.
I will be looking deeper into this in the near future. Stay tuned.
Jo says
Thought this might interest everyone. Might be something that could be looked into. Apparently they have been researching something called “RT1640” for awhile.
http://www.folliclethought.com/rivertown-therapeutics-melanocyte-research/
Joe Cannon says
Jo, interesting site. I looked up RT1640 (RT refers to “River Town.” The company is called Rivertown Therapeutics. Their website is Rivertowntherapeutics.com
Interestingly I didn’t see an address for the company. I did a quick search for “Rt1640 hair pubmed” which should have turned clinical studies on RT1640 substance. I didn’t see anything.
I’m not sure what RT1640 is or if anyone can buy it.
I’ll be interested in learning more about this stuff
Judy says
Joe,
The reply link under your comment to me was not available, so I am responding your other reply.
My hair salon informed me that there is not enough hydrogen peroxide in HP to lighten hair. To that point, I have seen it listed in permanent hair dyes that are brown and black as well. Also, the Hairprint website states that it will not lighten hair nor is it suitable for blonde, red, or white or extremely gray hair.
The other colors available are light brown, brown, and dark (presumably black). https://www.myhairprint.com/products/true-color-restorer I chose the light brown, and my hair is darker but I had colored it for so many years, I am certain this pretty close to my natural hair color, without the gray of course.
It did lighten a bit after washing, as predicted, and I can see a hint of gray hair peaking through, but it really isn’t noticeable to this stage. It will be interesting to see how fast it grows out and when I will need to retouch.
I am going to contact Hairprint about the accumulation on my scalp. It’s better than it was after two washings but it’s not gone.
Joe Cannon says
Judy, that is good news. Thats good news what the salon said about the hydrogen peroxide. I’ll keep that in mind for if I run into it again in other products. Here’s to hoping HairPrint is a good long term solution 🙂
Judy says
Joe,
I thought you might be interested in this Catalase supplement sold by Suzy Cohen, a pharmacist. htttps://www.store.suzycohen.com/catalase I don’t see any evidence that it reverses gray, but it is less expensive than PHYTO RE30. There are a couple reviews that might support this.
It looks like it needs to be taken at least 2-3 months for any benefit, and one bottle is a 30 day supply.
If you decide to review, I’m sure a lot of people would be interested in what you discover.
Joe Cannon says
Judy, Ive heard of Suzie. In the gray hair supplements review I looked at catalase. on paper it makes sense but the crazy thing is nobody seems to have tried to see if it really works.
If you try it, let me know what happens.
Judy says
Joe,
Thanks for the link. From the reviews, it doesn’t look very promising for gray hair so not sure I will try it. I am already eating some food sources of catalase and will try to be more deliberate in that approach. Dr. Gregor has something about this on Nutrition Facts.
On another note, I had the Hairprint color restorer applied and it seems to have covered well in what appears to be my natural hair color, which I haven’t seen since my 20s.
The downside of HairPrint is the time intensive and involved application process and it tends to stain and flake off the scalp. My hair stylist was willing to try it on me, but it took us over 4 hours with all the steps!
It will be interesting to see how long it lasts; if it fades or I wait for root growth. Hopefully, a retouch won’t take as long as the initial application. What I like is that it is completely nontoxic and does not damage my hair. I will post the ingredients if anyone is interested.
Joe Cannon says
Judy, thanks for that info on Hair Print. Ive been meaning to circle back and take a closer look at it. yes please do list the ingredients if you can (hopefully there are not too many). I appreciate you mentioning the 4 hour application process – wow! Looking forward to learning how Hair Print works for you.
Judy says
Here are the ingredients from the box:
Purified Water
Sodium Bicarbonate
Mucuna Pruriens Extract
Sodium Carbonate
Ferrous Gluconate
Manganese Gluconate
Hydrogen Peroxide
Carbomer
When I look at the Restore powder, it also appears to contain diatomaceous earth.
The Pretreatment Shampoo has some additional ingredients: Aqua, lauryl glucoside, cocoamphoacetate, sodium carbonate, sodium citrate, methcellulose, phenethyl alcohol
Although the application took us 4 hours, a good amount of the time was on preparation, measuring and dividing the individual components of the Restore powder and liquid before mixing together. For resistant gray application, Hairprint suggests dividing each packet into 2 separate applications and timing for 20 minutes each, which results in 4 separate applications rather than 2 normally.
The timing for the Pretreatment shampoo can vary too. Maybe the next time won’t take quite as long. Hairprint’s inventor, Dr. John Warner, estimates 70 minutes.
Joe Cannon says
Judy, thanks for that information! Interesting Hair Print has hydrogen peroxide -done people use that to lighten hair? I noticed it has mucuna pruriens extract. I covered some of the research on that ingredient in these reviews
Nugenix Review
GenF20 Review
I’m really looking forward to hearing your results with Hair Print 🙂
Air says
Thank you for your very rigourous research. I used phyto re30 for two months now. Each bottle is used as indicated, 8 spays a day. It lasts exactly one month per bottle.
The effect is that hairs look better after spaying, younger. I feel sometimes some kind of reaction on the scalp, high skin inflammation. I think this is why they say to apply the product only once a day. I, sometimes I stopped using it for a couple of days.
I dont see the grey decreasing in my hair but i will give it a chance one month more, in order to complete the 3 months they suggest.
If it was not the inflammation I would use it even if it does not reverse gray. It really changes the aspect of hair, that seem healthier, without making them oily or heavy or rough.
Joe Cannon says
Hi Air, Thanks for your kind words and for sharing your experience with RE30. That’s so interesting what you said about the skin inflammation. Has anyone else here noticed scalp inflammation with RE30? This may be why the company suggests not over using it?
Glad to hear you are seeing some benefits, even if its not the anti-greying effects. I will keep my fingers crossed that happens after the 3rd bottle. Do let us know what happens.
Steve says
Go to the phyto website in Canada they have 3 different before and after pictures wonder why they don’t have in the us site ?? https://www.phyto-canada.ca/phyto-re30/phyto-re30-lab-results-testimonials.html
Joe Cannon says
Steve, that’s a good question. I went to the phyto Canada site you listed and yep, sure enough there are some pretty impressive before and after pictures posted. Not sure why we dont see that here in the US? Their pictures notwithstanding, the feedback from people here makes me skeptical of their claims.
Have you tried Phyto RE30?
Steve says
in the process about 3 week in applying double to what is instructed and mosty on facial hair i know its not recomeneded my understanding is get much more absorbed form skin well at least il know if it works!!
Joe Cannon says
Steve, Let us know what happens. I’m not sure if taking 2x as much RE 30 would mean more would be absorbed (I didn’t see the company mention anything about this). I’m looking forward to learning what happens.
Jo says
Thanks for the review and the feedback in the comments section. I have been looking everywhere for reviews. Unfortunately, either no one follows up after or people give up half way. There was one instagramer I found who actually showed before and after pictures. She claims it works: flyinghousewives.com
The website is in german, but I used google translate to decipher it. I am nearly finished my second bottle, I think I fit into their target range or 20% or less white hair. I’m 31 this year. I got my first batch of white hair at 26/27. So far I don’t see any difference.
My right temple has the most white hair, I feel like it doesn’t look as bad as before, but it might just be me imagining things or wanting too much to believe something out there works. I apply it everyday at night.
There are definitely 1 or 2 days where I forget and miss it. I will continue to move onto my third bottle before I judge, but so far not much has been happening.
The “reviews” on the US site claims it worked after 2 months…I like many others really wish this works rather than not. I would rather spend on this every month than colour my hair every two weeks!
Joe Cannon says
Hi Jo, thanks for sharing your experiences with Phyto RE30. I did go to the FlyingHousewives.com site. yep, its in German. Her instagram name is flyinghousewives too. I went there as well (I’m supplementClarity on IG). I didn’t see any references to Phyto Re30 but I admit I may have missed it. I was scrolling through her pics quickly.
Based on what people here have told me, I’m not holding out hope for RE30. Please do let us know what happens when you complete your 3rd bottle.
Jo says
I checked again, it is definitely on her instagram. It is a picture of her face rather than the bottles. She goes more in depth in her website though. So far, it’s the only before and after review I have seen. Everyone else who says they are trying it seems to just disappear and never follow up.
I’m honestly not hopeful at this point either. You would think something will at least improve after 2 months…but whatever I’ll keep trying until I get to my last bottle. Please let us know if there are other more legitimate companies who claim they can reverse greys.
Joe Cannon says
Jo, thanks for that. I guess I missed it on her Instagram page. There is a anti-gray hair product mentioned in the comments I want to review sometime soon. I also have a few other anti-gray reviews here as well. Here they are:

I was trying to attach pictures here. But realized I couldn’t. I took some after 1 month pictures in comparison to after 2 months. It’s hard to tell if it actually made any difference so far…in the pictures it looks very slightly less whites but then again it could be lighting, it could be a different layer I was taking a pic of or maybe just blurry pictures.
Joe Cannon says
Joanne, thanks for that update. In the future, I want to add the ability to let people add pictures to their comments.
if you like, I can try to add your pics to the review if you email them to me.
Joanne says
Sure, any way to help inform people. What is your email?
Joe Cannon says
Joanne, I just emailed you 🙂

Dear Joe
Good day and great thanks for your explanation about Phyto re30.
I am using it daily since 15 July, but nothing changes in my grey hair.
I was finished 3 bottles, and the fourth one will be finish within 2 weeks.
I will finish the last bottle and stop using it again.
Kindly accept my regards and tell all the other friends that this is new scam.
AQEEL
Joe says
Aqeel, thank you for sharing your RE30 experiences. I am sorry it is not helping you but I truly appreciate you sharing your results with others. As Pia said, there doesn’t seem to be much marketing of PHYTO Re30 yet, but when that happens, people will need a place to turn for unbiased user reviews like yours. Again, thanks 🙂
Pia says
It doesn’t work. Used it for 3 full months .The greys are right where they were. Total Scam .
It’s been out for more than 6 months. No one s talking about it.
Joe says
Pia, I was afraid it might be just that. Sorry to hear Phyto RE30 did not work for you. I was afraid it might be more hype than reality. What makes companies do this sort of thing? I do appreciate you tipping me off to RE30 and keeping me updated on how it was working /not working for you.
Your job now – if you choose to accept it – is to have a great and memorable Thanksgiving with family and friends 🙂
Pia says
Thank you Joe for all your time and effort in giving us detail understanding of this product. I haven’t seen this deep ananlysis anywhere else.
Happy thanksgiving to you and everyone at home.
Joe says
Pia thanks, Today I am recovering from Thanksgiving food coma 🙂
Judy says
Based on Pia’s experience, I am going to finish the first bottle but not purchase another.
I’ll let you know if I try HairPrint. Hope you recover from your food coma 🙂
Joe says
Judy, sounds good, let us know what happens. Ill have to check out HairPrint and see what I can discover. Yes, food coma all over. I had a good workout today which seemed to do the trick 🙂
Antoine says
Hi Joe
I’m Antoine, from France, I’ve been reading your posts and watching your video about this new product the Phyto RE30.
Thanks for you work, it is nice to read a complete review with that many details about the product, I might actually give it a try even although the product is expensive here in France too (49 euros in pharmacies and about 40 euros online).
One question though about this other product you mentioned, the GX shampoo.
If you have a look on Amazon feedbacks on the product’s page, there are so many people talking about a significant hair loss after a couple of months using it.
(Pretty much all the five star comments have been posted by people using the product for a week, while 1 star posted by longer users), have you heard anything about it ?
Thanks anyway for you work, very much appreciated
https://amzn.to/2POc3iD
Joe says
Hi Antonine, Thanks for writing! Im really glad you found my PHYTO Re30 review and video useful! If you try it do let me know. If it really works, it would be a game changer.
I had not hear of people losing their hair after using Control GX Shampoo. I read the amazon reviews and you were right! I have no idea what might be causing that reaction.
I know someone who has been using Control GX shampoo for several months and he has not said anything about losing his hair. I’m sure if he was, he would have said something. I will ask him this week and let you know what he says.
Pia says
It doesn’t seem to work.
Joe says
Pia, I’m sorry. I was hoping it would work. Did you take before and after pictures to get a better idea of how things changed/didn’t change?
Judy says
Pia, did you use it for 3 months?
I started using this about 2 weeks ago and find it is hard to apply to my scalp when my hair is dry. Even though my hair is short, it is on the thick and wavy side. I am using way more than 8 sprays and not confident that I am getting it directly on the roots where it should be applied.
It’s a little easier when wet, but I don’t wash my hair every day. I can’t say I will continue for the 3 months.
Maybe that’s why they used men in their study.

Judy, thanks for bringing up the topic of it being hard to apply. I was not aware of this.
BTW, I just posted a quick video where I described research for raspberry ketones growing hair. Here’s the link:
https://youtu.be/mRowZ_2wsa4
Check out the before and after pictures.
I’ll be investigating raspberry ketones and hair growth more in the near future so stay tuned.

I have been using Phyto Re 30 regularly since last two months. Din even miss a single day. I have long thick hair and have used more than one bottle per month. My scalp is becoming oilier than before because of Re 30 ,the hair texture has improved but the greys are still there. No change at all. I’ll use it for another month to see what happens but I am loosing hope on this.
Joe says
Pia, Im glad to hear your hair texture is improving but sorry to hear the gray is not going away. have you also noticed the same problems as Judy did, applying RE30 to your scalp?
Judy says
I can certainly understand using more than one bottle per month since I’m applying anywhere from 10-16 sprays daily and I still don’t think I’m getting it everywhere on the scalp.
For me, it’s just harder to reach the scalp because my hair is in the way. I’m considering mainly concentrating my application on one area consistently so that I know the RE30 is going where it should go.
Joe says
Judy, that might be a better way to go -just focusing on one area to see what happens. If you can take a before picture to compare the results to. This will also save you money also. PHYTO RE30 ain’t cheap.
Pia says
I am concentrating in the front only where I have maximum grey hair. I don’t have before after pictures but I know every grey hair on my head. I don’t find it difficult to apply but just wonder if 8 sprays would cover the entire head.
Surprisingly not many people know about this product and the company isn’t advertising it also.
Joe says
Pia, I think its a pretty new product -I didn’t know about it until you brought it to my attention 🙂 I’m sure it will start getting popular if people start noticing gray hair improvements -although you and Judy are making me wonder if its results might be less than spectacular.
I think the front is a good place to test, because as you say, you are very familiar with the front of the head 🙂 The company says 8 sprays. Since its expensive, that’s what I’d stick to. That will at least save you some money.
Judy says
Joe – I just bought it at the Springfield mall yesterday. It was not in the hair color section and someone found it for me. Their supplement was next to it on the shelf but I did not buy it .
Joe says
Judy, maybe that was it – maybe I was looking in the wrong section. The person I spoke with wasn’t sure where it might be either. Glad you had better luck finding it 🙂
I’ll have to check out the Phyto supplement…
Judy says
Joe,
I was looking for the ingredients in the Control GX Shampoo and could not find these on their website or Amazon. I asked the question of the Amazon Community.
I tried the patch test for HairPrint. It was very messy, and I didn’t notice any difference. Granted, I didn’t follow the instructions to the letter or have the last part of mix (Complete) from the sample packet.
For the amount of time, it was on my hair and skin, I did not have any reactions, but I couldn’t realistically leave it on for the recommended 24 hours. It stains clothing worse than henna.
I may try it again after more of my other coloring grows out. They recommend, applying shea or cocoa butter to the colored hair so the HairPrint won’t adhere. I did this before trying the patch test and some may have gotten onto my roots.
In the meantime, I am leaning toward trying the PHYTO RE30 for one month. I’ll let you know what happens.
Joe says
Judy, If it helps I can list the ingredients in Control GX shampoo for you. I know it does not have Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20. It’s a hair dye shampoo.
Thanks for the heads up on the HairPrint. Good info about it staining clothes! Definitely let me know what happens with PHYTO RE30. 🙂
Judy says
Sure Joe. That would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks Joe. I’ll check out the ingredients.
I bought a one month supply of Phyto RE30 at the local Ulta store and will take before and after photos. At least I saved shipping costs.
Joe says
Judy, sounds good and thanks for letting me know it’s at Ulta. When I was researching Phyto Re30, I went to Ulta at the Springfield Mall and they didnt have it or know what it was. Good to know Ulta now carries it. Yes save those shipping costs 🙂
Looking forward to discovering what happens 🙂
Judy says
Joe, Here is the response I received from Lucas Meyer.
“Thank you for your interest in our ingredient!
The finished product named Phyto RE30 from Ales Group is now on the market and is the first finish product that contains Greyverse.
Lucas Meyer Cosmetics does not sale finish products or ingredients to private persons so I recommend you check for this one.”

Joe says
Judy, thanks so much for that! So GreyVerse is in PHYTO Re30! That makes sense and is what I was thinking. Thanks so much for the confirmation. I have updated the review with this information 🙂
Pia says
Greyverse is launched in Brazil by a company called Biotecdermo. It’s available on prescription only depending upon the extent of grey hair.
Pia says
Hi Joe ,
Greyverse is launched in Brazil by a company called Biotecdermocosmetico. None of the information is in English so I am not able to understand it. A lot of leading dermatologist are reviewing Greyverse in Brazil.
Surprisingly there aren’t any reviews about Phyto Re 30 on Amazon or any other place till now. I have been using it since a month , I do not see any grey hair reversal till now but it definitely makes the hair softer and smoother.
Joe says
Pia, yes I think your suggestion to me is what prompted me to write the first official/unbiased RE30 review -so thanks! I was wondering about GrayVerse. I didn’t see anybody here in the US who seemed to sell it so I think you are right about it not being here in the US yet. Eventually I’m sure it will be.
Thanks for the update on RE30. that’s quite interesting about how it makes your hair softer/smoother. Looking forward to learning what happens at month 2 and 3 🙂
Judy says
Joe,
I’ve been looking into Hairprint, which is applied more like a hair color, but it is supposed to restore a person’s natural color.
At $39.00 it is not expensive, but they do recommend using their products or similar ones to detox the hair at least a week in advance, and this can drive up the price tag.
Also, there are issues using it on hair with existing color, and they provide very specific procedures to deal with it. They are also pretty helpful when it comes to responding to questions by email.
https://www.myhairprint.com/pages/color-restorer
I’m thinking of trying it but I still have old color and concerned about it turning black. For now, I ordered a patch test kit, which I will try to a hidden piece of hair to see if what happens.
Joe says
Judy, thanks for the heads up on HairPrint. Ive never heard of it. I did look at its ingredients
https://www.myhairprint.com/pages/ingredients
It doesn’t seem to have the same active ingredient as PHYTO RE30 or GreyVerse. Im not sure what the active ingredient in HairPrint is. I’ll try to circle back next week and take a closer look at it. Do let me know what happens with the Patch kit and if you give it a try.
Robyn says
I saw an RE30 video review. the guy saying how good it was had gray hair. That just didn’t seem right it you ask me lol
Joe says
Hi Robyn, I may have seen that video too. It crossed my mind too.
Arun says
I came across the technical file for greyverse(Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20) used in Phyto RE30 here.
http://www.visioncnt.co.kr/download.php?file=greyverse___techfile.pdf
It has the complete details of all the studies performed on greyverse till now.
Joe says
Hi Arun, thanks for this document. Ive looked over it confirms my conclusion that Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20 is the active ingredient in Greyverse and PHYTO RE30.
I looked at the PDF you linked to. While they do cover various “test tube studies” as I call them, they also report on a study of 15 men who were given GreyVerse for 3 months (the average age was 33. I wish they would have used people in their 50s etc.). I believe this may be the abstract (summary of research) on Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-20 I described in the PHYTO RE30 review.
While its a small study (only 15 men) the before and after picture was very interesting (hey Pia, take a look at the pictures). I wish they had shown this when I created the review. My only issue with the study is why is it only an abstract and not a full fledged study peer reviewed study?
As I said, if this stuff really reversed gray hair, it’s a game changer. If its really adding hair color back to hair, they could put hair dye companies out of business. For all we know the study is going through the peer review process now. I hope it is. I really want to see their full study published.
Arun, if you try GreyVerse -or PHYTO RE30, please do let me know what happens.
Judy says
Arun/Joe, I looked on the website for GrayVerse but I could not see how it is taken or applied and the cost.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Joe says
Hi Judy, great question! I looked on the Greyverse website too and likewise did not see any instructions on how to use it. Since it has the same active ingredient as PHYTO RE30, my guess is it would be the same – 8 sprays into the scalp and massage in gently. do not wash it off.
I also didnt see a cost. Im starting to wonder if the Lucus Myer cosmetic company just makes the stuff and license it to others (like PHYTO). on this page of their site: http://lucasmeyercosmetics.com/en/products/distributors.php they do list this contact number 1 (212) 765-5500 and contact person – Christine Desy. If you turn up anything do let me know.
Dimitris says
Hello i am a man 26 years old, and despite my young age i recently noticed that most of my hairs and brows are white in the roοts. I had a lot of stress the past 9 months day and night, do you think it is because of it? And is it possible to reverse it?
Joe says
Hi Dimitris, Ive read in some people, long term stress can play a role in hair turning white/gray. But I also think its more complicated than this. Has anyone elses hair in your family started to turn white at a young age? Since you are under a lot of stress, it is important to eat a good diet (fruits and vegetables) full of antioxidants. If too many free radicals in hair follicles cause white hair than, eating more antioxidants may help. It cant hurt anyway.
There have been times in my life when I have also been under constant stress. As you know we can only take so much and then it starts to drag us down. It really can be unbearable. Believe me, I do know what this is like. Because of this I would like to mention the importance of talking to people about it. Just talking to others can help. It doesn’t have to be a professional. Even talking to friends can be a good release. Anything you can do to help get away from the stress for a little bit, to “recharge your batteries” can help too.
You did not say why you are having this day/night stress but if it’s because you are a caregiver for someone, I’m sure there are support groups to help. If you call local hospitals, YMCAs and Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) as they may have support groups who can help. Exercise, medication, prayer and even talking a walk can also help too.
I bring all this up because stress can do more than cause our hair to turn white. It’s important to take care of the total you – not just your hair.
As for whether white hair can be reversed, I think there is some proof it might in some people. We still dont know all about why hair turns gray or white. Maybe coping with the stress better -such as what I suggest above -may help.
As for PHYTO RE30, I really dont know if it would help or not. Just because I think there research should be better doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t work. If you decide to try PHYTO RE30, I’ll be very curious to know what happens.
I hope some of this helps Dimitris. If you have any other questions, just ask and Ill try to help.
Does anyone else have words of encouragement or advice for Dimitris?
Judy says
Also are you familiar with amla powder? Dr. Gregor recommends it in smoothies. I have read elsewhere that it may have some anti-graying properties and an ingredient in some henna products.
I think my earilier comment is still pending moderation.
Joe says
Judy, Yes, I’ve heard of amla helping reverse gray hair. here is my review on that
http://supplementclarity.com/indian-gooseberry-gray-hair-review/
I didn’t know Dr Greger had thoughts on amla powder in smoothies. I will have to check it out.
Yes I moderate all the comments to cut back on the spammers 🙂
Judy says
Thanks, Joe. I wasn’t hopeful there was any
Here’s Dr. G’s smoothie with amla.
https://nutritionfacts.org/video/a-better-breakfast/
It did not work so well for me when I added it to oatmeal though. A bitter taste on its own.
Joe says
Hey Judy, thanks for the link -you saved me some searching 🙂
Ive never tasted amla and it doesn’t sound like I will either since you said it tasted bitter 🙂 Ill stick to my own recipe
oatmeal
frozen blueberries
chocolate protein powder
chopped walnuts or pecans
🙂
Pia says
Hi Joe,
I drink fresh Amla juice everyday since last 4-5 years. It has numerous health benefits but doesn’t reverse grey hair.
Joe says
Pia, thanks for that confirmation on Amla. I was skeptical too after looking at the lack of evidence. A lot of people online swear it works so its nice to have confirmation 🙂
Judy L says
By the way, I modified your recipe adding about 3/4 tsp of amla powder and Moringa powder using a protein powder that was sweetened with stevia and monk fruit, along with the blueberries, and it was not at all bitter.
Joe says
Judy, that sounds good! yeah definitely modify my smoothy recipe. I often add in different stuff too to keep it fun 🙂
Judy says
Hi Joe,
Thanks for this thorough review. I’m disappointed that they didn’t use females in their research too, especially since they target men and women.
The reduction in catalase is concerning as well as the lack of photos. I’m wondering if the lower catalase could interfere with further reduction in hydrogen peroxide.
Also, although increases in hydrogen peroxide is part of the aging process, I have to wonder if coloring one’s hair speeds up the graying process?
Joe says
Judy, I’ve never heard coloring the hear using hydrogen peroxide speeds up the aging process but I have heard going “bleach blond” isn’t good for the hair. It is odd the study I referenced only used men.
I’m hoping the reduction in catalase they mentioned was a typo 🙂
PHYTO did does say there are two other investigations -each involving 32 people (I thought it was odd both studies included the same number of people). It could be some of those 32 volunteers were women. They don’t say either way unfortunately. I’m hoping they release those studies so everybody can look at them.
Pia says
Thanks Joe , every aspect of the product and the company including their ratings and all the research is covered. It’s amazing to see the insight that you have given.
I am feeling a bit sad that this product won’t work. I was really hoping for a magic that would reverse or stop my greying. I wish these companies don’t make false claims like this and there are stricter laws by the government.
Pia says
Thank you for alerting us and saving us from raising our hopes.
Joe says
Pia, Im glad it helped. As I said, at this point I think the evidence is interesting but far from the proving it works. There may be better proof in the future and I will by keeping an eye out for it. I also hope to eventually see before and after pictures too.
Joe says
Hi Pia, I understand. I was a bit disappointed too that PHYTO didn’t post before and after pictures. I’m not totally ready to close the door on PHYTO RE30 because, they do claim to have some research, which I cant locate. I do trust they did the research. I really hope they eventually publish those investigations.
About their BBB rating, I think they were rated D because they did not respond to 1 negative report. It was the only report they had at the BBB site and I think that’s why they were rated so low. I’m sure that will change if they address that complaint.
If it works, PHYTO Re30 would be a game changer in that all the hair dye companies would probably be put out of business. I can’t say for sure it doesn’t work but I have my doubts based on what I saw and didn’t see. Before and after pictures would be a good first step at changing my mind.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention Pia. It really was a lot of fun -and time – to put it all together. I’ll keep updating this review as I become aware of any new developments. 🙂
Dee Dee says
Joe, thanks for putting this review together. There is a lot of talk about whether RE 30 works. This really helps me make sense of it. I think I will give it a try and see what happens but I agree, Id like to see before and after pictures too. Hopefully soon people will start posting them.
