Nicotinamide riboside, also known as Tru Niagen is a popular NAD+ anti-aging supplement touted to improve cellular energy levels and impact the diseases of aging. But can it help people infected with coronavirus? Maybe you have heard it speeds recovery by 30%? There is some research on this. In this video, I'll show you the human research on nicotinamide riboside and COVID-19 infection and the amounts used. I'll also show you the shortcomings and my thoughts for future research.

How Much Does It Cost?
For the most part, the supplements in this cocktail are inexpensive, except for nicotinamide riboside. Here they are so you can price them out for yourself.
Any Side Effects?
This study did not note any serious side effects occurring. Some reported a mild rash but it does not stop people from taking part in the study. Here are some things to keep in mind and consider if you decide to try this cocktail for yourself. This list is not complete.
- There is no proof taking this cocktail prevents COVID infection
- Stop at least 2 weeks before surgery
- If you take medications including blood thinners ask your doctor first
- If you have cancer, ask your doctor before taking nicotinamide riboside and NAC supplements
- The people in this study had mild-to-moderate infections. So far, research on severe covid infection is lacking.
Remember no supplement cocktail is a substitute for proven COVID-19 therapies.

Hi Joe it’s Patti Lennon, I’ve been taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement for many years now and glad to hear of this study. Originally started this for “flexibility n mobility” which is stated on the label. I take 2 tabs 2X day. I’m happy to hear that it shows helping patients with COVID to recover faster. Thank God neither myself or my husband have
contracted this dreadful disease. Thank you for all you do to keep us in the Fitness field informed of the latest research. Fondly and Merry Christmas to you and yours🎄😍

I tried both NMN and NR each for 2 months. I took what the bottle recommended. I did not feel any different. Granted I did not have bloodwork done so I can’t guarantee they were doing something, but I’ve read online people saying they had more energy. Unfortunately, this 55-year-old guy didn’t.

Stan, thanks for sharing. I likewise did not notice any difference when I took Tru Niagen for 1 month. I have not tried NMN (yet). Here are my 30-day experiment results

Hello – Just read your case for Nicotinamide riboside (NR) and Covid cases. First thought – you are plugging a specific brand called Tru Niagen – there are many many other brands offering NR of equal or better quality and generally less expensive. The begged question is are you getting a kick back for plugging Tru Niagen? Second – Nicotinamode riboside is only one pathway chemical to increase NAD+ – another chemical pathway researched as much or more (as your own reporting has noted in earlier postings) is NMN – Nicotinamide mononucleotide. Have you looked into NMN and Covid – or even niacin/B vitamin and Covid. Nevertheless, there seems no reason to push a specific NR brand.
As an aside, on my own personal “experiment” after reading one of your earlier dissertations comparing NMN with NR and other ways to boost NAD+ – I am taking plain old (flushless) niacin at relatively high dosage (3000 mg/day) in combination with 250 mg daily of NMN. I actually experience much more “energy” from this less expensive pathway than through taking NR – including “Tru Niagen”. I am 72 but highly active still.
That is all sort of irrelevant to my concern about the posting on NR and Covid – I would just hope you would remain non-brand specific and impartial with this sort of critical information. Your service as a brand-neutral source of information is invaluable.. Thanks.

Hi Bill, I can assure you I have no connection to Chromadex, the maker of Tru Niagen. They are not giving me any kickbacks. I created this review because of a study involving Tru Niagen and Covid. As you can tell from the review, that study had some issues. Tru Niagein (nicotinamide riboside) was the ingredient used so that is why I mentioned it. While there is research on the NR ingredient, as you may know from my previous reviews, I remain skeptical.
See these for why:

Here’s my 30 day experiment with the supplement
As for NMN, I remain skeptical about this too.

Does NMN Really Work?
One difference between Tru Niagen and NMN is, with Trun Niagen, all of it comes from 1 company, Chromadex. They license it out to other companies too. It is made in America. With NMN there are many companies that make it, most of them coming from China. Unfortunately, many supplement ingredients now come from China.
I’ve not seen any studies on the NMN + niacinamide cocktail you are taking. Have you tried just taking niacinamide to see if your energy levels still feel high?
