Viscera 3 is a triple-action postbiotic supplement touted to “turn on your slim gut switch” and help you “melt inches off your waistline overnight” by reducing visceral fat as well as reducing your gas, bloating, making your bowel movements easier and improving your thinking too. There are even nice words from former Biggest Loser contestants Jay & Jennifer Jacobs too. Grand claims and words aside, what's really going on here? Is this really the “last gut supplement you will ever need.?” In this Viscera 3 supplement review, you'll discover if it's legit or a scam, who makes it, if it's good for you and if it really works.
1 What is Viscera 3 & How Does It Work?
The word viscera refers to internal organs. Viscera-3 is a postbiotic supplement. So what is a postbiotic? Postbiotics are the byproducts of bacteria metabolism. Normally when you eat foods that contain fiber, healthy, probiotic bacteria consume what you cannot digest and produce substances called postbiotics. We use those substances to stay healthy.
One important postbiotic that scientists have been studying is called short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate, also called butyric acid. The Viscera 3 supplement contains a patented form of butyrate called CoreBiome Tributyrin. More on tributyrin below.
Taking the Viscera 3 supplement is said to provide the following benefits:
- reduce gas and bloating
- nourish the gut wall lining
- slim the gut
- reduce the risk of brain disease
- improve energy levels
Keep in mind there is no human proof the unique blend of ingredients in Viscera 3 does any of these things.

4 Viscera 3 Research
The company (called SANE Solutions) that makes the supplement claims it is clinically proven and has patented ingredients. So, has Viscera 3 – itself – undergone clinical testing to see if it really works? Clinical research on the supplement itself cannot be located.
To their credit, the SANE Solutions website does list several clinical studies on butyrate, short-chain fatty acids, and other ingredients as proof of their effectiveness. This is good, but it is not the same as clinical studies on the Viscera supplement itself.
Let's take a look at the proprietary blends and ingredients in the supplement.
5 SLIMGut Earth Proprietary Blend
This is the first of two proprietary blends found in the supplement. It is a blend of two types of magnesium:
- magnesium oxide
- magnesium bisglycinate
Both of these types are called chelated minerals. Chealeated minerals are formed when minerals are combined with another compound to improve absorption. Magnesium takes part in over 300 different enzymatic cellular reactions including helping with healthy bowel movements. Magnesium bisglycinate is also found in the popular Magneiusm Breakthrough supplement. Viscera 3 only provides 26% of the recommended amount of magnesium. While the supplement is technically “high” in this important mineral, it still has less than in other magnesium supplements.
6 Chromium Picolinate
The mineral, chromium helps regulate blood sugar levels. Chromium picolinate is the chelated version of the mineral used to improve absorption. Chromium picolinate remains a popular weight loss supplement, despite many studies showing it is not an effective slimming aid.
7 What Is CoreBiome Tributyrin
CoreBiome Tributyin is a patent-pending version of butyrate (butyric acid), a short-chain fatty acid postbiotic produced by probiotic bacteria. Butyrate makes up over 80% of the total short-chain fatty acids in the large intestine (colon). This tells us it's important. Tributyrin is found naturally in butter and used to make margarine too. Tributryrin is produced by combing 3 butyrate molecules with glycerol.
Butyrate is the key postbiotic ingredient in Viscera-3 supplements. A postbiotic is a substance (like a short-chain fatty acid) produced by gut bacteria that you can use to stay healthy. So how does it work? Normally, when you eat fiber, the healthy gut bacteria in your colon produce butyrate. Butyrate (a short-chain fatty acid) can have many beneficial effects including:
- maintaining gut balance (homeostasis)
- reducing inflammation in the colon
- providing energy to healthy gut bacteria
- helping the immune system function
- preserving gut wall integrity by maintaining tight junctions in the gut
- reducing colon cancer formation
Our good gut bacteria make butyrate when we eat fiber. However, since over 90% of Americans don't eat the minimum requirement of 1 ounce of fiber a day, butyrate levels may be less than optimal. This may lead to reduced microbiome diversity, immune problems, and an increased risk of disease.
What does all this mean? The idea is CoreBiome Tributrin supplies the body with butyrate which you can use to stay healthy.
8 TriButyrin Research
Various studies have documented tributyrin effects. In one study researchers noted tributyrin reduced free radical damage and protected blood vessels in mice exposed to alcohol. Other researchers observed tributyrin also protected the liver when mice were given alcohol. In test-tube studies, tributyrin has also been shown to be more effective than butyrate at inhibiting colon cancer growth cell growth.
When researchers gave tributyrin to 20 people with different kinds of tumors, it appeared to stop the progression of cancer by about 2 months. In 4 of those people, it was greater than 3 months. While encouraging, research on tributyrin should be considered preliminary due to the paucity of human clinical trials.
Some research suggests butyric acid may benefit people with Chrons disease and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as well as others who cannot eat fiber-containing foods such as people following a low FODMAP diet.
9 SLIMGut Garden Proprietary Blend
This proprietary blend consists of 3 ingredients:
- Pomegranate fruit extract
- Ellagic acid
- Grape seed extract, which is standardized to contain 95% proanthocyanidins
10 Pomegranate fruit extract
In one study, 4 oz of pomegranate juice a day appeared to help overweight people maintain their weight (they did not gain or lose weight).
11 Ellagic acid
Ellagic acid is a polyphenol (plant nutrient) found in berries, grapes, nuts, and pomegranates. In laboratory animals, ellagic acid has been shown to induce brown fat formation. Brown fat burns more calories than white fat. In theory, greater amounts of brown fat may help people burn more calories and lose weight. In another study, researchers, who gave 3 mg of ellagic acid to overweight men and women saw significantly greater weight loss and fat loss after 3 months of daily use.
12 Grape seed extract
Grape seed extract has been shown in laboratory animals to reduce gaining weight. In a study involving 40 overweight people, grape seed extract reduced body weight and waist circumference at a dosage of 300 mg a day for 3 months.

21 Viscera 3 Pros & Cons

|Not many ingredients||Grandiose claims about what supplement can do|
|Some research on ingredients||Expensive|
22 Does Viscera 3 Really Work?
I remain skeptical until clinical studies are performed on the supplement. The tributyrin butyrate ingredient in Viscera-3 is intriguing and worthy of more research although it's not yet proven if short-chain fatty acids derived from tributyrin can take the place of eating fruits and vegetables. The SANE Solutions website mentions that good diet + daily exercise +SANE = proven results. Lots of research testifies to the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity. What is not yet known is whether taking Viscera 3 improves the results of exercise and diet alone.

I am having bad headaches, tiredness and muscle soreness. I have Fibromyalgia and neuropathy and I have a lot of muscle soreness most of the time, but I have more now and I am having trouble thinking clearly. I was hoping that this would help me, but I feel worse.
I want a refund. What address should I return these to?

Wondering why you could not just take butyrate supplements instead and save some money
Joe Cannon says
Jolene, thats a question I was wondering too. Three are butyrate supplements on Amazon. Some of the research I saw suggested the ingredient in Viscera was better absorbed than Butyrate. Another option is to eat fiber-containing foods as this will also boost your gut bacteria’s natural butyrate production.
I tried Viscera for a couple of months. I thought it helped me be more regular. I have a friend who tried it too for a month but didn’t notice any differences. Like all supplements, expect results to vary.
Joe Cannon says
Jenn thanks for the feedback. That’s a good point about results varying between people when it comes to supplements.
I’m so glad you mentioned Dr. Ohhiras’s probiotics! I’ve his supplements for several years. They are the best!
Joe Cannon says
Thanks Janice, great minds think alike 🙂
I had no idea what a postbiotic was so this was a very interesting read. Question for you: if since Tributyrin is butyrate and since there are butyrate supplements, does butyrate supplements have the same effects as Viscera 3?
Joe Cannon says
John, Tributyrin is billed as being better absorbed than butyrate. I didn’t see any head-to-head studies comparing butyrate to tributyrin but researchers are looking at tributyrin so that’s good. Remember we make butyrate when we eat fruits and veggies and beans.
