Updated 3/15/24. The Only Bar, by Truvani and The Food Babe, is said to be made only by ingredients in your kitchen. In this review, you'll discover the ingredients in The Only Bar, where those ingredients come from, the price, allergy information, the money-back guarantee, pros and cons, and how it compares to other healthy snack bar alternatives. What Is Truvani?
TruVani is a dietary supplement and personal care company that has been in business since 2017. The Truvani brand includes vitamins, minerals, and probiotics as well as toothpaste and deodorant with the goal of providing products with no weird ingredients and free of artificial flavors, colors, etc. The name Truvani is obviously related to Vani Hari – The Food Babe, one of the owners of the company.
The Only Bar Ingredients
The ingredients are as follows:
- Organic almonds
- Organic dates
- Organic maple syrup
- Organic cocoa
- Organic cacao nibs
- Sea salt
Unlike other snack bars and supplements, the Food Babe Truvani snack bar does not contain any “other ingredients” like magnesium stearate, corn syrup, palm kernel oil, “natural flavors,” maltodextrin, etc. This is good and I would expect nothing less from The Food Babe. In addition, the ingredients are certified USDA organic, gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, soy-free, stevia free and non-GMO.
Only Bar Video
Here's a video the company has put out.
Truvani Only Bar Nutrition Facts
Each snack bar weighs 50 grams (1.7 oz ), has 230 calories, and the following nutrition information
Nutrient | Amount | Percent Daily Value |
Total fat | 15 g | 19% DV |
Saturated fat | 1.5 g | 8% DV |
Trans fat | 0g | N/A |
Cholesterol | 0 mg | O% |
Sodium | 100 mg | 4 % DV |
Total Carbohydrate | 21 g | 8% DV |
Dietary fiber | 6 g | 21% DV |
Total sugars | 13 g | N/A |
Added sugars | 3 g | 6% DV |
Protein | 7 g | N/A |
Vitamin D | 0 mg | 0% DV |
Calcium | 80 mg | 6% DV |
Iron | 1.7 mg | 10% DV |
Potassium | 350 mg | 8% DV |
What Does All This Mean?
The key to understanding Nutrition Facts labels is the percent daily value. By definition:
- Less than 5% means low
- More than 20% means high
As you can see, The Truvani snack bar is high in fiber (21%). The bar also only has 14 net carbs, which is important for those doing ketogenic diets. Keep in mind that because The snack bar is made from almonds, dates, and cocoa, there are thousands of phytonutrients also present. For example, cocoa contains a compound called theobromine, a compound that looks like caffeine but is a milder stimulant.
Various studies have shown theobromine is not only an antioxidant it also appears to improve blood pressure and lung function -and it may reduce cavities too. Because of regulations, companies cannot list phytonutrients on nutrition labels. Just know that beans, nuts, and seeds have a lot of them.
One thing we don't know is how many monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids are in the Food Babe snack bar. These are healthy fats. Almonds contain these and it would be nice if they were listed.
Allergy Information
The snack bar is processed in a facility where eggs, soy, dairy, peanuts, and other tree nuts are processed.

BBB Rating
The company has been in business since 2017. Unfortunately, the Better Business Bureau gives Truvani a rating of F with 1.9 out of 5 stars. The reasons for customers logging complaints appear to be related to poor company communication and problems receiving orders. Some customer complaints were not answered by the company. Ratings often change over time, so see the BBB file for updates and more information.

Where are Truvani products made? The snack bar and other supplements are made in America. That's good. The other good news is no ingredient in the snack bar is sourced from China. Here are the countries Truvani gets its ingredients from:

- Organic maple syrup: Canada
- Organic cocoa: Brazil, Cameroon, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Myalsya, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Spain & USA

Truvani Bar vs. RX Bar
The RX Bar is another option for those looking for a healthy snack bar with ingredients that can be pronounced. Labels of RX Bar prominently display its ingredients
such as:
- 3 egg whites
- 6 almonds
- 4 cashews
- 2 dates
- and no BS
Here is the nutrition information on how Truvani compares to the RX Bar:
The Only Bar (1 bar/50 g) Chocolate Love | RX Bar (1 bar/ 52 g) Chocolate Sea Salt
Calories | 230 | 210 |
Total Fat | 15 g (19% DV) | 9 g (12% DV) |
Saturated Fat | 1.5 g (8%DV) | 2 g (10% DV) |
Trans Fat | 0 | 0 |
Cholesterol | 0 | 0 |
Total Carbs | 21g (8%DV) | 23 g (8%DV) |
Dietary Fiber | 6 g (21%DV) | 5 g (18% DV) |
Total Sugars | 13 g | 13 g |
Added Sugars | 3 g (6%DV) | 0 |
Protein | 7 g | 12 g |
Potassium | 350 mg (8%DV) | 480 mg (10% DV) |
Sodium | 100 mg (4%DV) | 260 mg (11% DV) |
Iron | 1.7 mg ((10%DV) | 2 mg (10% DV) |
Vitamin D | 0 | 0 |
Calcium | 80 mg (6%DV) | 60 mg (4% DV) |
Overall, the nutrition profiles of both snack bars look similar. One possible advantage is RX bar comes in different flavors while the Food Babe Bar comes in only chocolate.
Truvani vs. Fit Crunch Bar
The Fit Crunch Bar by celebrity chef Robert Irving is a whey protein bar so it will have more protein than the Truvani snack bar. So, they are actually in different categories. As such, comparing them to each other would not be fair. That said, Fit Crunch Bar has much more saturated fat, making it unacceptable for those looking for healthier alternatives.
Truvani vs. Gatorade Recovery Bar
The Gatorade Protein Bar, also called the Recovery Bar, is a high-whey protein bar. The Gatorade Recovery Bar has 20 grams of whey protein, but it is also very high in saturated fat. As such, the Gatorade bar is not in the same category as the Food Babe snack bar.
See the Gatorade Protein Bar Review
Truvani vs. Cliff Bar
The Cliff Bar is one of the most well-known snack bars sold today. Here is how it compares
The Only Bar (1 bar/50 g) Chocolate Love | Cliff Bar (1 bar 68 oz). Chocolate Brownie
Calories | 230 | 250 |
Total Fat | 15 g (19% DV) | 5 g (7% DV) |
Saturated Fat | 1.5 g (8%DV) | 1.5 g (8% DV) |
Trans Fat | 0 | 0 |
Cholesterol | 0 | 0 |
Total Carbs | 21g (8%DV) | 44 g (16% DV) |
Dietary Fiber | 6 g (21%DV) | 4 g (14% DV) |
Total Sugars | 13 g | 21 g |
Added Sugars | 3 g (6%DV) | 20 g (40% DV) |
Protein | 7 g | 9 g |
Potassium | 350 mg (8%DV) | 235 mg (4% DV) |
Sodium | 100 mg (4%DV) | 180 mg (8% DV) |
Iron | 1.7 mg ((10%DV) | 3 mg (15% DV) |
Vitamin D | 0 | 2 mcg (8%DV) |
Calcium | 80 mg (6%DV) | 196 mg (15% DV) |
Differences? One stand-out difference is that this flavor of Cliff Bar has 20 grams of added sugars. This makes it “high” in added sugars. That's a problem since too many added sugars are linked to inflammation and heart disease. Some might consider Cliff Bar as not “clean” as it has other ingredients like soy lecithin, cane sugar, and soybeans, not found in the Food Babe snack Bar. You can decide that for yourself.
Food Babe Snack Bar FAQ
How Long Do Only Bars Last?
The shelf life is 1 year.
What Is The Organic Rating?
The Truvani snack bar is certified USDA Organic, one of the strictest organic standards in the world. One stipulation of USDA organic certification is that it does not permit the use of any GMO ingredients.
Is It Kosher?
No, the bars are not Kosher.
Will it keep me awake at night?
Probably not. The snack bar contains theobromine. Theobromine looks like caffeine however it is a milder-acting stimulant. Ironically, some studies have shown theobromine might help you sleep better. It's not known how much theobromine is in the snack bar but since it contains cocoa, we know it has some.
Where does the protein come from?
Almonds supply the bulk of the protein in the snack bar.
Countries They Ship To
Currently, Truvani ships only within the US and to Canada. If you live in another country, you may purchase it from Amazon.
What Are The Sweeteners?
Organic maple syrup is the only sweetener. There are no refined sugars, stevia, or artificial flavors such as aspartame, Splenda, or saccharine.
Any Dairy?
The snack bar does not contain any dairy or soy. It is also gluten-free.

Truvani Side Effects
Is Truvani safe? Since the snack bar is made from food, it's expected to be very safe. If you have allergies, remember this snack bar is made in a facility that also processes eggs, soy, dairy wheat, peanuts, and other tree nuts. Do your due diligence to investigate this further if it applies to you.
Does Truvani Contain Lead?
If you've read the nutrition labels of Truvani supplements, you have noticed a reference that the product can expose you to lead. This is a warning many products sold in California must display. Proposition 65 is also known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.
Prop 65 is very stringent – more stringent than that required by the EPA. For example, even if the lead occurs naturally in food at very low levels, companies that sell in California must display this warning. According to the FDA, lead can enter foods if it occurs in the soil or water the food is grown in. The FDA has also stated that it is not possible to “remove or completely prevent lead from entering the food supply.”
The Truvani company tells me they enlist a third party to independently test every supplement for quality before it enters their facility and they test the ingredients for mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and glyphosate.
What Do I Suggest?
If you are impressed with the Truvani snack back, it's a great option and has a lot to offer. If you are looking for an alternative to Truvani, I like these:
Keep in mind I'm basing these alternatives on just their overall nutrition and not other ingredients which some may not see as “clean.” When in doubt look at their ingredients list and decide for yourself.
TruVani Only Bar Pros and Cons

Is The Only Bar Worth It?
Whether you love the Food Babe or not, if you're looking for a whole-food snack, then the Truvani snack bar ticks a lot of boxes in that it's organic, has only a few ingredients, and has no artificial flavors or colors. I also like that some of those ingredients come from the US. The emphasis on food is definitely welcomed.

Alice Ansfield says
In the article, the author states that Truvani got an F rating from the BBB I think it was…. But author didn’t tell us why they got this rating. Please clarify.
Joe Cannon says
Hi Alice thanks for asking. The Better Business Bureau did not give specific reasons for the F rating. I checked today and it was still an F. They did say they had 8 complaints in the last 12 months and 12 complaints over the last 3 years. I don’t consider that a lot given how many people consume the product. Here is the BBB file so you can take a look https://www.bbb.org/us/nv/las-vegas/profile/organic-products/truvani-1086-90058689
I hope that helps. If you have any other questions, about this or any of the hundreds of other supplements Ive reviewed here, just ask 🙂
Dan crippen says
You leave out the potentially most important ingredient: coconut oil. It’s the most important because both you and Truvani do not reveal if it is partially or wholly chemically derived. I’ve asked Truvani numerous times. I even tried their “Live” chat only to discover there is never anyone “live”…just leave another email. As you should know, many oils are processed with hexane (derived from petroleum, with various possible side effects) and other chemicals. I believe you should not hide the ball on potentially important information.
Joe Cannon says
Dan, I not hiding anything. I don’t see coconut oil listed among the ingredients. I’ve updated this review to show the ingredients in the Chocolate Brownie flavor. If you can show me where coconut oil is listed, Im happy to take a look at it. Ive reached out to The Food Babe on Instagram to ask about how the oil is processed. I’ll report back here when I get an answer.
Mary B. Winter says
We have asked Truvani, if the oil that is in the one bar is expeller pressed, or if it is chemically processed, such that hexane would be in the oil. Despite repeated inquiries, they have not responded.
Joe Cannon says
Mary, that is interesting. Given her reputation, my guess is that it would not be chemically processed but I’m not sure. Have you tried reaching out to the Food Babe on social media? I have reached out to her on Instagram about this. I’ll report back here when I get an answer.
Mary B. Winter says
Thank you so much, Joe. I have asked many companies this same question, and they have always responded. My husband asked Truvani as well, with no response. My thought is, since they do not want to confirm that their products truly are chemically free, they must use hexane laden oils in their products. Unfortunately, the FDA will allow them to claim the product is organic, even if it contains hexane.“Greenwashing” is rampant.
Mary B. Winter says
I have not reached out to food babe, as I don’t have an Instagram account and I’m not too interested in creating one. Thank you for your assistance.
Joe Cannon says
I understand Mary. No worries. I’ll keep you in the loop on what I discover 🙂
Joe Cannon says
Mary, thats interesting what you said about the FDA, organic and hexane. I was not aware of this. I will definitely let you know if I hear anything from her on Instagram. Let me know if you turn up anything too. Someone else just asked about the use of coconut oil in the Truvani bar. I don’t see it listed. I updated the review to include the nutrition facts label.
Mary Winter says
I have the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor and it has both peanut and coconut oil listed as ingredients on the box. Oil from both is typically obtained through the use of hexane, which remains in the oil. Possibly the reason the FDA does not require hexane to be disclosed as an ingredient is because it is used in the processing of the oil, not as an added ingredient. Expeller pressing to obtain the oil is more expensive than using hexane, which is why most oil is obtained via hexane. If I ingest hexane, I have terrible brain-fog–like and awful hangover–until about 5pm the next day. I don’t drink alcohol, so that is not the culprit.
Joe Cannon says
Mary, thanks for sharing that I was not aware of this. I check Instagram regularly and have not yet heard back from The Food Babe about this.
Judy says
Thanks Joe. I like the fact that the ingredients are organic, low sodium, and vegan, but it does seem pricey. I might give it a try when I go to Mom’s next. The RX bars only check the low sodium category for me.
Joe Cannon says
Thanks, Judy, let me know how you like the Only Bar. I also like it because it is low in sodium too
Andrea says
Thanks for this review Joe. The Rx Bar is more accessible, and since there isn’t a huge difference in the bars, I’ll be sticking with that. Although I only use bars in case of emergency hunger!
Joe Cannon says
Andrea, Thanks Andrea, and I understand. Accessibility is a big thing 🙂
George says
When I first started reading this review, my immediate thought was, “This is just another version of the RXBar.” As I continued to scroll down, I was so glad to find your comparison of the two. In my estimation, RXBar is the the absolute winner. RXBar is also much, much cheaper than Truvani, at least at Trader Joes ($1.99).
As I continued to scroll down, I found one of your suggestions is for Quest. Quest has sucralose in it, which I thought is carcinogenic. Am I confusing sucralose with something else?
Joe, I love your websites. Thx for all the work you do in them.
Joe Cannon says
George, thanks so much! I’m not aware of any evidence linking sucralose to cancer. Here’s a review of the research which appears to come to the same conclusion
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5152540/ Maybe you are thinking about saccharine? Back in the 90s, it was banned for a time because it was thought it caused cancer.
I also like both the RX bar. With QuestBar, with Quest, I like chocolate chip cookie dough. Someone else mentioned Kind bars which are also good. The big advantage to Truvani Bar (and RX) is that they don’t use a lot of ingredients and put the emphasis on food which I like.
jess says
I love the RX Bar but I really liked how Truvani compared so I will give this a try thanks so much for the option.
Joe Cannon says
Thanks Jess I hope you enjoy it 🙂
Denise says
How does the truvani bar compare to Kind Bars?
Joe Cannon says
Hi Denise, so the kind bars I think stack up closely with The Only Bar. When I looked at Dark Chocolate Nuts and Sea salt for comparison. Kind is a bit smaller than truvani bar so it will have a few less calories (180 calories). I liked how Kind does list its mono and polyunsaturated fats on the label. That is something I was not able to discover with Truvani. Kind does is ingredients like soy lecithin, natural flavor which are not found in Truvani snack bars. At the end of the day I think it comes to what tastes best for you.
Judeth says
I just heard about The Only Bar and was curious to know more so your review was SO TIMELY! I can’t thank you enough for this. I love that Only Bar has just 6 ingredients. That is a big selling point for me.
Joe Cannon says
Judeth, Thanks so much! I’m glad my review benefited you 🙂
