Update 1/31/21. Real Dose Weight Loss Formula No. 1 is a weight loss supplement that claims its ingredients are “based only on the results from human studies.” That statement alone made me want to review Formula 1! Furthermore, Real Dose also says that their products use the exact same amount of the ingredients that are used in research. Both of these are bold statements that I don't see many supplement companies making, so let's review Real Dose Formula 1 and see what we can find out.
Who Makes Real Dose Formula No 1?
Real Dose Weight Loss Formula No. 1 is a product of Real Dose Nutrition LLC located at 2031 16th Street Boulder, CO 80302. To contact Real Dose Nutrition, call (800) 928-5580 if inside the US (or if outside the US,
+1-307-222-6725). In my review I found 2 different websites for the company:
- RealDose.com
- RealDoseWeightloss.com
According to the Better Business Bureau, while Real Dose Nutrition is not a BBB accredited business, the company has a BBB rating of “A.” It appears that the person in charge of the company is Dr. Steven Sisskind. While he is listed as the “Chief Medical Officer” on both the BBB website and the Real Dose website, in a press release, dated June 10th 2013, Dr. Sisskind is called “the creator” of Real Dose Nutrition Formula No 1.
Real Dose Formula No.1 has also been sold on Amazon but it may be unavailable.

Real Dose Formula No 1 Research
As far as I can see from the Real Dose website, Formula No. 1 has no published peer-reviewed research to show that it helps people lose weight. Also, I'm not aware of any published research that used the entire unique blend of ingredients that are in Formula No 1 weight loss pills.
That said, as I understand the premise behind this supplement, the idea here is that because there is weight research on 2 of the ingredients ―and Real Dose Formula No. 1 uses the same ingredients, in the same amounts used in research―that the same weight loss benefits should be seen with this product. It's an interesting idea. Let's now take a look at the research on the ingredients in the product and see what that research says.
To their credit, RealDose.com not only lists the research on the ingredients, it also links to those studies also, so I will list those studies for each ingredient below.
Dolichos Biflorus (Seed) Extract
There are 2 studies listed in support of Dolichos biflorus. They are:
1. Study title: Efficacy of an Herbal Formulation LI10903F Containing Dolichos Biflorus and Piper Betle Extracts on Weight Management. This was an 8-week study involving 50 overweight people. The participants were put on a 2000 calorie per day diet and exercised 30 minutes per day.
The people received either a placebo or 300 mg of a supplement called “LOWAT” ― a product of Interhealth Neutraceutical Inc. LOWAT is a blend of both Dolichos biflorus seed extracts and Piper betle leaf (which is also in Real Dose Formula No 1). If you read the study in the link above, they call LOWAT “LI10903F” so don't be confused.
Results. Those who received the LOWAT supplement lost significantly more weight (an average of 5 lbs) compared to those who didn't get the supplement. Significant decreases in ghrelin and increases in adiponectin (hormones that play a role in how much we weigh) were also seen in those who received the LOWAT supplement.
2. Study title. Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Weight Management Herbal Formulation LOWAT. The Real Dose website states that this study was presented at the 51st meeting of the American College of Nutrition in October 2010. This is a study of the effects of the LOWAT supplement in rats. It may be a fine study but since it's not peer-reviewed (and a rat study), I'm inclined to discount it.
Real Dose Formula No 1 contains 300 mg of the proprietary blend of both Dolichos biflorus seed extracts and Piper betle leaf. I believe the proprietary blend used is the LOWAT supplement. The LOWAT blend is in other products and is a standalone supplement itself. For example, here is the LOWAT supplement on Amazon.
Decaf Green Coffee Bean Extract
The Real Dose website references 2 studies to support the use of green coffee bean.
1. A study titled: Svetol, green coffee extract induces weight loss and increases the lean to fat mass ratio with overweight people.
2. A study in French which is the same study as study #1. This is likely the original investigation that was also translated into English. I'm not sure why the Real Dose website lists the study in both English and French.
The keyword in this study is “Svetol” which is a specific extract of green coffee bean. There is some weight loss research on Svetol although it's less than I'd like. See the review of Green Coffee Bean and weight loss,
For those who want to compare prices, here is Svetol on Amazon.
Siberian Rhodiola Rosea
The Real Dose website lists two studies for Rhodiola Rosea:
1. Rhodiola rosea: A Phytomedicinal Overview. This is a review article that shows that Rhodiola Rosea may help recovery from exercise and play a role in mood. That is likely why this herb is in Real Dose.
2. Standardized Rhodiola rosea: A Unique Phytomedicine. A Current Phytochemical Quality Overview. This appears to be a paper that was presented at a meeting titled, The Proceedings of the 8th International Congress Phytopharm, in 2004. Phytopharm is a pharmaceutical /nutraceutical company. Since this paper was presented, it may not be peer-reviewed.
Real Dose Formula No 1 contains 113.33 mg of Rhodiola rosea. At least one study noted that 100 mg of this herb helped mental and physical fatigue.
Pepper (Piper nigrum)
The Real Dose website cites 2 studies in support of this ingredient. They are:
1. A study titled, Piperine derived from black pepper increases the plasma levels of coenzyme Q10 following oral supplementation. This study showed that 5 mg of Piper nigrum (pepper) increased levels of coenzyme Q10 in healthy males. Real Dose Formula No 1contains 5 mg of pepper.
2. A study titled Piperine, an alkaloid derived from black pepper increases serum response of beta-carotene during 14-days of oral beta-carotene supplementation. Basically, pepper increased the absorption of beta carotene.
This is why pepper is in the product. It's not because of any metabolism-boosting or weight loss effect, but rather because pepper appears to enhance absorption of other things. Here, the pepper increases the absorption of the 2 active ingredients in Real Dose Formula No 1.
Summary of studies
If I look only at the studies listed on the Real Dose website, here is how they look to me:
- A published human study of Dolichos biflorus and weight loss
- A presented study on Dolichos biflorus and weight loss in rats
- A published human study of green coffee extract and weight loss (listed in both English and French)
- A published review article of the effects of Rhodiola rose (no weight loss effects mentioned)
- A presented paper on Rhodiola rosea and stress levels (no weight loss effects mentioned)
- A published paper on how pepper raises coenzyme Q10 levels
- A published paper on how pepper helps beta carotene absorption
Based on the research presented on the product website, the ingredients in Real Dose Formula 1 that have human weight loss evidence are:
- Dolichos biflorus (specifically, the LOWAT supplement)
- Green coffee extract (specifically, the Svetol supplement)
Here is LOWAT on Amazon and Here is Svetol on Amazon for those who want to compare prices.
It's possible that the unique blend of ingredients in Real Dose Formula No 1 works better than either /both of these ingredients, but since there appears to be no published peer-reviewed research on Real Dose Formula No 1 itself, I can't know for sure.
Real Dose Formula No 1 side effects
I'm not aware of any side effects from using Real Dose Weight Loss Formula 1 and I think in healthy people it's pretty safe. With any new supplement you've not taken before, it's wise to start with less than is recommended to see how you respond. This will minimize any side effects that you, personally, may have.
How to Return Real Dose Formula No. 1
The product website states that Real Dose weight loss supplements have an “Unconditional 365 Day You Must Be Thrilled!” Money-Back Guarantee. Giving people 1 year to return a product is actually quite generous ―and rare.
According to the Real Dose website, people just have to call customer service and ask for a refund. Return the product with a copy of your sales receipt. Customer service can be reached by calling these numbers:
- In the US: 1-800-838-4854
- Outside the US : +1-307-222-6346
To get a refund, the product should be shipped to this address:
RealDose Nutrition LLC
22100 E 26th Avenue #100 Aurora, CO 80019
According to Google, this address corresponds to a company called “At Last Fulfillment” which I assume is the company that actually ships Real Dose products to consumers.
Does Real Dose Formula No 1 Work?
First, let me say that I appreciated the emphasis on research that I saw on the Real Dose website. It's not often I see supplement websites that link to research. I thought that was refreshing.
While there is not a lot of research on the ingredients, it's possible some people may notice weight loss from Real Dose Weight Loss Formula No. 1 especially if they also exercise and eat fewer calories. How much weight loss might occur if someone were to only take the supplement, I do not know.
I personally think that if the product is going to work, that has more to do with its 2 main ingredients ― Dolichos biflorus and green coffee extract― than the other ingredients, but I admit I could be wrong on this. It could be that the combination of ingredients in Real Dose Formula No 1 enhances the weight loss effects of these 2 ingredients but without human trials, I can't say for sure. Real Dose Formula No 1 is expensive with a 30 day supply costing $67 on the product's website.
Here is Dolichos biflorus on Amazon (the LOWAT supplement) and here is green coffee extract on Amazon for those who want to compare prices.
What do you think?

i have been taking real dose for just over a year now- i have lost 62 lbs- BUT i have dramatically changed my diet and my physical activity- so was it the real dose? or was it the diet and exercise?
i do not know for sure- but i do feel the first 30 lbs flew off of me with not much of a drastic lifestyle change initially- so i do believe real dose played a large role in that first 30- but the last 30 have been hard work so i do not know if real dose has helped me with the 2nd 30 lbs that much- BUT I WILL tell you this: IT IS AN ABSOLUTE FACT that when i run out of my real dose and miss a day or two between orders, my MOOD IS INSANELY MISERABLE!!!- there is something in there that makes me feel great-
my friend who lives near me also takes real dose and reports the EXACT SAME THING- so now we have agreed to help each other out- i “lent” her 10 pills last time she ran out and tonight i am heading over to her place to “borrow” 10 pills until my order comes!!!
my mood is horrible without it!! lol- i am menopausal is all i can say- i know that shouldn’t be an excuse, but my hormones are quite out of whack it seems- i say give it a try guys!
Joe says
Hi Alice, congrats on losing 62 pounds! That is FANTASTIC! About your mood, I wonder if it might be the Siberian Rhodiola rosea? There has been some research noting that Siberian Rhodiola rosea can help mild depression. Whether it was Real Dose or the other stuff you were doing -or a combination of all, I don’t know. I’ll just say what you did is really amazing and I wish you continued success 🙂
Ann Seanor says
Hey, whatever. I’ve been using Real Dose for about 6 months, now, along with utilizing “myplate”, & I’ve been successful in losing ~25 lbs. I’ll keep using it..
Joe says
Really glad to hear Ann. MyPlate.gov is a good site.

Found this info on LOWAT – and was thinking of those 2 above who experienced a sensation on their tongue – this may be the reason why.
Dolichos Biflorus is a flowering plant with seed pods. The seeds are commonly used for natural treatment of colic, kidney stones, diarrhea and cold sweats. Seeds are known to have diuretic qualities, which is likely the reason they are included in Lowat. Diuretics increased urine output by pulling water from fluid stores in the body. Pulling more water increases urination and causes the dieter to constantly run back and forth to the bathroom. Diuretics have no impact on weight loss or fat loss. They will not increase metabolism or make it easier to stick with a reduced calorie diet.
Piper Betle is a stimulant, commonly chewed. The stimulant is thought to be associated with mouth cancer, which could mean there are negative side effects of taking the ingredient which have yet to be revealed. There are no clinical studies associated with piper betle, so dieter should be very cautious when taking this supplement. Stimulants often have a diuretic effect, like caffeine. The dieter may suffer from dehydration, dry skin and constipation as a result of taking Lowat.
While stimulants are commonly used in weight loss products, they can increase heart rate, blood pressure and metabolism. It is important to offset any resulting hunger with a strong appetite suppressant. Lowat does not contain any appetite suppressing ingredients, so the dieter may feel more hunger after taking the supplement and thus eat more and lose less.
Ed says
Not sure if anyone mentioned this:
“Significant decreases in ghrelin and adiponectin (hormones that play a role in how much we weigh) were also seen in those who received the LOWAT supplement.”
Actually, decreases were seen in ghrelin, but increases were seen in adiponectin.
Ghrelin makes you hungry, so it’s good to decrease it.
Adiponectin seems to make you store less fat, so you want more of it.
Joe says
Ed, thanks SO much for pointing that out. I fixed my error. Really appreciate you bringing this up 🙂

I am on my 3rd week and have lost 2 pounds and do feel better as far as energy and focus. I too consider myself a healthy eater for the most part but have put on a few pounds around my waist. I am 53 years old and post menopausal since 50 and noticed this within the past year. I eat small portions and try to powerwalk 2 miles at least 3 to 4 times a week.
The only thing I’ve noticed is a burning sensation on the tip of my tongue since taking this product. Has anyone else had this happen? My doctor gave me some prescription rinse (Nystatin I think) for 3 days just to see if it went away thinking maybe it was a yeast issue. But it is still present.
I am going to dentist this week for a cleaning and will check with him, but was curious if anyone else had this experience. Thank you.
Joe says
Mary, Ive never heard of a burning sensation on the tip of the tongue before. Has anyone else?
Ann Seanor says
A couple years ago, if you go back in the comments, there was a woman who had an allergic reaction, including mouth sores. Maybe Mary is having a mild reaction? I can taste the pepper when I take the supplement. Is it pepper she’s tasting on the tip of the tongue?
Joe says
Ann, yes that was Laura who commented back in August 2013. While its hard to know, I guess it could be the pepper shes tasting?
Mary says
I’m a pepperholic, so I doubt that’s it. It burns my tongue when I eat spicy food or minty gum. It is just on the tip of my tongue. I’m going to see my physician tomorrow but thank you for the comments.
Joe says
Mary, good luck at the doctor. Let us know what happens.
Jane says
I am a healthcare provider and consider myself well educated. That being said, I am also a 45 year old female in what I think is perimenopause. I have always maintained a stable weight, always normal and take care of what I eat. I am not a health nut, just healthy.
The past 4-5 years I have been having 7-8 pounds that although don’t make me overweight (I am 5’3 and 132 lbs) make me feel bigger than I am used to. I have been struggling to lose them with no success.
I have tried carb free eating, paleo, vegan but no result. I came across this supplement (weight loss formula 1) and decided to give it a try. I have never tried weight loss supplements and felt awkward about it. But nonetheless I did.
For the first two weeks I noticed a significant decrease in my appetite but no change in my weight. During the third week I felt lighter and weighed my self to find that I had lost 3.5 lbs! I am towards the end of my third week and haven’t weighed myself but I do feel lighter, I eat significantly less and when I eat I feel full sooner.
I haven’t felt any other effects, no additional energy or anything like that. Nor have I had any side effects. so far I am happy since this has been the only thing that helped me get closer to what I consider my ideal weight.
I understand I am not typical as I wanted to lose a few pounds but these pounds are the hardest to lose and the easiest to gain back so I will be in lookout about the long term effects. I hope this helps some of you.
Allie says
Today is day one for me on Real Dose. Like many women who have commented, I am post menopausal (age 52) I have always been thin and active, but the last 10 years or so, not as much. I am also easily affected by stress and worry. When I watched the video—I don’t mean to sound corny–but it spoke to me. I know that it is not going to be “take a pill, lose the weight” scenario. It’s going to take a combination of a healthy diet (I am a sugar addict) and exercise.
I have been logging my food on MFP for over a year and had been under the care of a naturopath in the recent past. I was diagnosed with “adrenal fatigue” and supplement with B complex vitamins and additional b12 sublingual tabs. I’ve tried phentermine, which made me feel like I was jumping out of my skin and dietylproprion, which didn’t do much at all.
I’m hoping this supplement will help me lose that stubborn 20 pounds and give me more energy to push through my workouts—and bring me a good night sleep! So far, I don’t feel any adverse affects. I’m super sensitive to any type of amphetamine, including caffeine.
I’ll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks and if I feel like I am making progress, I will order a three month supply. Rome wasn’t built in a day. PS….if you need something to motivate you, invest in a Fitbit!
Joe says
Allie, Thanks for sharing and do keep me posted on how you are going. I like the FitBit too. For those who dont know what it is, its a gizmo that tracks how many steps you take and flights on steps you use. you can log your food in its software too. Here is the FitBit I use myself.
leanlulu says
I learned about this product from an email from Dr. Sara Gottfried. I lift weights and run and I still have stubborn fat on my abdomen. It just will not budge, and I start getting too skinny everywhere else. I am wondering if it is hormonal. I guess I’ll try it…
Joe says
Leanlulu, I hope you will let me know if it helps or not. I hope it does.
leanlulu says
I forgot I was going to come back and report. I took it for a month. It did nothing. Nada. Zilch. I’m convinced they are relying on the placebo effect, that and a suggested diet plan that would make anyone lose weight. I took it for 25 days and emailed them saying it did nothing for me. They told me to keep the unused portion and promptly issued a refund.
Joe says
leanlulu, thanks for the update and while I’m sorry it didn’t work for you, I am very happy at how they handled your refund. Have a great Easter!
leanlulu says
Thanks, Joe, you too.
Dean Grein, RN, BSN says
When I hit 309 lbs. I entered a wt. loss program where I work. After 22 weeks of using Optifast 800, exercise, lots of water, and one hour weekly group mtgs, I shed 70 lbs. However, in one year I have slowly gained 20 lbs. back and I am depressed, tend to isolate myself, and angry with my failure. After watching the presentation of Dr. Susskind, MD, I will give it a shot. I will be back after 90 days to tell all how I faired on this wt loss program. Wish me luck!! Dean
Joe says
Dean, much success on the program and yes do let me know what happens. I hope you had a nice holiday too 🙂
Meg says
I have been following this thread of info for a couple of months now. Been wanting to try the RealDose plan but been hesitant. I like what I was reading here here.. and I emailed the staff at the RealDose site… received a quick reply (asked if their product was involved with an automatic shipment scenario that is always very difficult to get out of).
They have assured me that they are not auto shipped, order one bottle, get one bottle. Additionally, they wrote: “Please keep in mind that the research done on the ingredients of Weight Loss Formula No. 1 that showed double the weight loss in the group taking WLF ingredients versus the group taking a placebo was done over a 12-week (3-month) period.”
So I’ve decided to take the plunge!! I’ve ordered the 30 day supply because I want to see what takes place for me using that along with eating smart! I’m going to bookmark this page to keep in touch!
Joe says
Meg, sounds good and yes, please do keep me posted on what happens. Much success to you! 🙂
Meg says
So after the 30 day dose, I saw no difference, either way. I requested my money back and there was no issue with that request. It was all done within the week.
For those that ARE seeing positive results, GREAT!!
Joe says
Meg, thanks so much for the update and while I’m sorry you didn’t notice any difference, I’m so happy that you were quickly able to get your money back.
jan says
I can’t take diet pills as I have mitral valve regurgitation heart murmur and pvc’s. Is this safe for me to take? I basically can’t take anything that accelerates my heart beat in an abnormal way.
I run 3 times a week, so I am pretty healthy that way, but just can’t lose the extra 20lbs I’ve gained since my 20’s. If this doesn’t accelerate my heart beat then I can take it. Please let me know..
Joe says
Jan, they do say they use decaffeinated green coffee bean extract but Id feel better if you showed the ingredients do your doctor and pharmacist and see what they think. Have you ever tracked the calories you are eating? Remember it all comes down to calories. Sometimes people overestimate how many calories they burn during exercise and underestimate the calories that we eat. you could easily track calories with MyFitnessPal.com
Here is a breakdown of the different types of weight loss supplements, along with what I think are safest. I also cover other things that can help too: http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/
CLE0315 says
I took 2 doses of WLF1and developed cystitis – Not UTI. I stopped the supplement, drank the recommended amount of water (plus some) and finally recovered after 2 days. Have others reported this reaction? I had a similar reaction to Centrum Silver Multi-Vitamins years ago. I will have to return the bottle of WLF1.
Joe says
Cleo, I’ve never heard of this before. Anybody else?
Donna says
Cystitis *is* a form of UTI. I would not blame the supplement — you probably were not drinking enough liquids and if dehydrated, can be more prone to a UTI. It’s possible the supplement changed the urine pH but with enough hydration, that wouldn’t really matter.
Emeline says
PS I do take metformin
Emeline says
37yrs old and already only having cycles every four months. I have PCOS but I was able to have four kids before I misscarried at five months. Normally I weigh 130, but shot up to 195 in a year not changing anything. I have been a runner in high school and through my life but am loosing the edge to feel and be healthy.
With all I know how to do I have gotten down to 162. But I cannot squeeze any more wright off if me despite running three miles a day and 30 minutes at the gym.
Is real dose something I should try or are there other suggestions?
-Single mom going back to school-
Joe says
Hi Emeline, I think its possible it can help if it gets you to eat fewer calories. One thing Id suggest is track how many calories you are eating. you can do this using MyFitnessPal or if you have a FibBit, you can use their website also.
Running 3 miles a day is a great thing and Id say keep it up if you can. Exercise is great for health but one thing Id point out is that exercise – alone – usually isn’t very good for weight loss. That’s because most people don’t burn as many calories with exercise as they think. For example, running 3 miles you are probably burning only about 300 calories. That’s about 1 piece of pizza.
here is a link to my personal site where I discuss different types of wt loss supplements along with other things that can help too http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/ If Real Dose works, I think it works best when we do other things too.
Its likely that you take metformin because of your weight. As you lose weight, I believe its possible for you to get off of your diabetes medication. Here is an interview I did with a woman whose diabetes was far worse than yours. I hope it gives you some inspiration: http://www.joe-cannon.com/interview-yolanda-bowles-diabetes-exercise-nutrition-cure-type-ii-diabetes/
Donna says
Joe, have you ever heard from insulin dependent people who have taken this supplement
Joe says
Donna, Do you mean a type I diabetic who takes insulin or a type II diabetic who takes insulin? I ask because type I diabetes cant be cured (yet). People who have type II diabetes may taking insulin as their diabetes gets worse. In this instance, I can understand how Real Dose might be of interest as it may (along with other healthy lifestyle changes) help people lose weight and in that way help them get off their insulin.
Which one are you?
I don’t think anyone here has said that they were taking insulin for their diabetes.
George says
I would encourage anyone interested in good health to read Dr Jerry Tennant’s book “Healing Is Voltage”. A good overview can be found here: Part 1:
and here:
Part 2:
Or you can google him on youtube.
I’ve learned that many things we may not realize can BLOCK key processes from taking place and throw our body metabolism off, reduce the body’s voltage, which into translates into various diseases.
Here’s a quote from page 287 of his book: “It is my opinion that metabolic syndrome X is simply type II hypothyroidism. After six to twelve months of therapy for hypothyroidism, most case of hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity return to normal without other therapies. Studies have also shown that eighty percent of arthritics will be normal.”
Part of our problem in America is that the govt has mandated putting fluoride in the water. Unless you remove it at home from your drinking water, you will likely have many thyroid and other issues, as fluoride always blocks iodine in the making of T4. And of course, at any restaurant, what is in the water they offer you?
Another pervasive problem is trans-fats (including canola oil, which almost all restaurant use) which food companies put in processed foods to retard spoilage and increase profits: since every single cell membrane of your body is made out of fat, you need to eat and digest good quality fat daily (so much for low fat diets) to make viable good cells and tissues. A cell made out of transfats (which are one carbon molecule away from being plastic) will not be able to hold the necessary electric charge each cell must have to operate properly.
Try driving the nicest, newest car without a battery: it just won’t work, no matter how shiny the paint, or if you put in new leather seats, put in the right tire pressure, rotate the tires, etc. With no battery it’s an exercise in futility. It’s the same with each and every cell in our body: if you eat transfats, you are making cells that won’t carry voltage, and thus won’t work well. Problem is, transfats are in everything (almost). So all the good ‘stuff’ we take to get well may have no effect if we in effect, have no voltage, or low voltage.
Think back 100 years: look at pictures from 100 years ago in America: there were no fat people (compared to today); there was little heart disease. People ate lots of eggs, lots of bacon, meat, real butter, and often raw milk from the dairy. Today and for the past 50 years, with the help and guidance of the FDA, the AMA, and the CDC, people are eating themselves to dis-ease and early death.

I have been taking RealDose WLF #1 for 6 months now. I have faithfully been following the suggested foods in the accompanying booklet that comes with an order. I ordered a 6 mos quantity which brings the price per month down to $50 range- about the same as a membership in Weight Watchers which I had been doing on and off for 30 years.
The Real Dose WLF #1 has changed my life and I do NOT readily give endorsements to any company let alone hucksters. I have lost now 72 pounds taking the pills and eradicating grains, which, as their RD booklet explains, that action alone will allow you to drop weight.
What’s more important, is the amazing support that comes with your purchase of RealDose products.
Because of my decision to buy WLF #1, I have the resources of a trained nutritionist which I take advantage of talking with once per week.
I get email updates by Dr. Sisskind on how to live this new healthy life. I can watch and learn through real time online presentations. I know now that I will never go back to the obese, sick person I was in February.
The other information that I have been given access to from Metabolic Effect, workouts from Metabolic Aftershock and from Dr. Jonny Bowden have reinforced that I have made the right choice. I too had high blood pressure which I have been able (with my physician’s blessing) to go off of. I take thyroid replacement therapy and I am post menopausal.
Anyone who is overweight has metabolic issues; there’s no way around it. Through learning the right way to exercise and eat, I now exercise 3x/week to the Metabolic Aftershock videos appropriate for my age of 57.
The WLF#1 has indeed made my mood better and I have a renewed zest for life.
So what will I do when I reach my own personal weight goal in 12 pounds? First, I will make sure my waist circumference is right for my height per Natl Heart Lung and Blood Institute, then I will continue to exercise and eat real food, continuing to abstain from packaged and processed foods, eat low carb and use the glycemic load per food as a guide.
As for my RD WLF#1, I will switch from using it as an appetite suppressant 30 min before each meal, to a supplement once per day until I run out of my current supply.
I am told by my nutritionist that for some people, the pills, over long periods of use may have a decreased effectiveness, but still have value as a supplement.
My decision to purchase from this company has paid me back many many times over by teaching me about how my body works, how my metabolism is affected by who I am and especially by not paying for Weight Watchers meetings that push processed junk by corporate ‘food’ companies into us, ensuring that we will forever remain fat and desperate.
I was nearly ready to get lapband surgery for my weight. Now, I will achieve my new healthy life in a far superior way than that.
The RD company will stand behind anything they offer or present. If you are willing to take advantage of all they offer for personal support, you will be amazed at your new life. (NO No NO, not a paid endorsement-just another formerly obese person with a new lease on life)
Joe says
Marsha, really glad to read the success you are having and wish you all the best moving forward too 🙂
Gail Anderson says
Joe, I have a 15 year old grandson who weighs 314 lbs, 6’1″ tall. He is a good 100 lbs overweight, with overlapping belly fat, and breasts. Tests show that his main issue is adrenal fatigue, but he has low cortisol levels. He takes adrenal and thyroid high grade supplements, plus all kind of other natural high grade supplements, eats extremely health (no gluten, no carbs except fruit and quinoa, only chicken breast and fish, lots of veggies, about 1200 calories/day) exercises regularly, athletic) yet still gains weight.
Currently, he is doing genetic testing to more thoroughly understand why he cannot seem to lose weight. I watched the RD video yesterday. I’m always looking for something to help him, but it seems that the ingredients touted in RD suppress cortisol levels as the main silver bullet.
Since his cortisol levels are already low, would there be any value in these ingredients? I know that his problem is hormonal, (overproduction of estrogen) and he is taking a supplement to suppress the estrogen. I would gladly spend the $67/month if RD could possibly be of benefit to him, but would appreciate your input. His situation is different than any of the other folks on your site, as he is still a teenager. Thank you for doing this valuable research.
Gail

Hi Gail, Since being overweight can raise estrogen levels, is it possible that its the weight that caused the estrogen level to be high? As for the cortisol supplements, is it lower since he started taking them? How is his thyroid hormone level? If his thyroid is ok he may not need the supplements. Does he do any type of exercise – even walking or swimming would help some at least for health reasons.
It is interesting that hes not losing weight even though hes only eating 1200 calories per day. How does he track his calories? Does he use something like MyFitnessPal.com or the FitBit software?
Does he always feel hungry? Has he ever been to see an RD?

Just wondering if weight loss Formula 1 would cause a problem with one who has systolic high blood pressure?
Joe says
Lily, Im honestly not sure. I recommend you show the ingredients to your pharmacist/doctor and ask him/her if any of those ingredients will effect your blood pressure or interact with any blood pressure meds you take.

Thank you!

Hi Joe,
Thanks for your review! And thank you to all who posted here with additional information from their experiences. I actually have no doubt that if used correctly with proper nutrition and exercise that this product would work, but my question that I don’t seem to find an answer to is this: (and I hope someone here can answer it)
Let’s set up a scenario where a person lost weight doing exactly what was proscribed and came to their targeted weight number. They have now decided to stop taking the supplement. This supplement is geared to increasing/decreasing hormonal activity of about 4 different hormones. (I may be wrong on this number, so please correct me if I am).
From my experience the body becomes dependent on outside sources to fulfill its hormonal needs and will not respond in taking up the slack once the source is gone. (thyroid hormone supplement is an example).
So what becomes of the individual who wants to stop but can’t because all sorts of side effects from not taking the supplement occur.(not to mention gaining weight back) This may become a very expensive contract.
I need an answer to this before I would be able to commit to buying any supplement that will manipulate any hormonal output of my body.
Thanks for any responses

Lori, you are very welcome and I’m happy my words were able to help. To answer your question, before we can say if someone might be dependent on Real Dose forever, I think we would have to do a study that compared Real Dose Formula 1 to people who did exactly the same thing – diet and exercise wise – to see if people lose the same or more weight with Real Dose.
I think for the most part it does boil down a lot to calories eaten but I am also intrigued by the research on the 2 ingredients in Real Dose I highlighted. I think if Real Dose does work, its because of those 2 ingredients.
If you try Real Dose and lose weight – and then get off of it for a month or so, while still doing all the other stuff (exercise, eating the same) – do let me know if you regain any weight. I’d be curious to find this out myself.

I will try to lose weight first without this product. I haven’t been watching my caloric intake efficiently and closely. So I will do that for a month and see what happens. If nothing, then I will try this product…
although I’d hate to think there maybe other side effects from going off it besides weight gain… like increased insulin resistance etc.? thank you for your reply! :- )

Lori sounds good I’ll look forward to learning what happens. Try using my fitness pal.Com to track calories

Joe –
Fascinating to read your (very well-written and unbiased) review and all the comments. For what it’s worth as pure individual anecdote, here’s my experience:
In January, I began trying to lose 12 pounds that had gradually crept up on on me over a 3-year period (post-menopause, more causal about my diet, etc.). I already exercise vigorously (cardio and strength training) 3x/week and walk or do yoga on the other days. So I cut my food intake to 1000-1300 calories of healthy food (mostly lean protein, fruits and veg, whole grains). I lost 3-4 pounds, and then…nothing. I stayed at exactly the same weight for over two months, and I’m 100% sure I was creating a calorie deficit (I’m talking to you, SoCalMel).
Then, one month ago, I started taking RealDose WLF1 and their TG Fish Oil. In that month I’ve lost 5 pounds – and I haven’t changed anything else I’m doing: not exercising more, not eating less. Plus, I feel wonderful – energetic, focused, clear.
I fully expect to lose my final 5 pounds over the next month or two. RealDose has at least one extremely satisfied customer.

Erika, that’s great! I’m really glad its working for you 🙂

Hi Joe, as you have done such a great job in researching the ingredients in the Real Dose Weight loss product, could you point me in the right direction regarding which of these elements actually has any impact on hormones and weight loss? … is it Adiponectin?
I’m looking at trying this product as a last ditch attempt but from what I’ve read it seems to help peoples mood more then weight loss. I’d like to do bit more research, pending on your advice. I’m a 35 year old overweight female that has only ever lost a major amount of weight, without trying, while I’ve been pregnant with my two sons.
During my first pregnancy at the age of 25, I was 3 kilograms lighter on the day I was due to give birth to my first son (10 days overdue), in comparison to my starting pregnancy weight.
My second pregnancy at the age of 32 I was 9 kilograms lighter on the day I was due to give birth in comparison to my starting weight. The doctors were a bit surprised on both occasions as the babies were big, healthy, grew normally and my diet (which is always pretty healthy and balanced) had not changed at all.
My weight increased after both births and each time after a 3 to 4 month period I was back to my normal weight of 84 Kilograms. From your research, can any of these ingredients in this product have an impact on hormones? Thanks Alicia
Joe says
Hi Alicia, Im not aware of any of the ingredients altering hormones – adiponectin etc. Its possible they might even if Im not aware of it. you could try searching Pubmed.gov for “the ingredient and “adiponectin” to see if any reserach has been done.
Based on what I could find, I think the active ingredients in Real doese -if it works is likely Svetol and Lowat, which I highlighted in my review.
All that said, do take a look at my review of what supplements might work. its a review I posted on my personal site here is the link: http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/
I discussed more about weight loss there and included some other things that might help also.
I do hope some of this helps Alicia.
