Update 12/6/22. At one time, Anatabloc was a SUPER popular anti-inflammation supplement. It was sold online and at GNC and elsewhere. It was touted to help reduce pain, help joints and arthritis pain, and reduce chronic inflammation. Anatabloc was unique. It contained an ingredient not found in any other supplement I've EVER seen in over 20 years of investigation. This unique ingredient also contributed to its own downfall. In this unbiased, updated review, I reveal everything you need to know about Anatabloc, from its rise – and fall – to the research and proof and the company which made it. I'll also shed light on other anatabloc supplements too.
What Is Anatabloc
Before we talk about Anatabloc (sometimes misspelled Anatablock), I need to tell you about Anatabine (also called anatabine citrate). Anatabine is the active ingredient in Anatabloc. Anatabine is a chemical found in
- eggplants
- potatoes
- green tomatoes
as well as tobacco and tobacco smoke (remember this).
Chemically, anatabine “looks” like nicotine. Because of this, it was also used some anti-smoking supplements. Anatabine has a longer half life than nicotine, so it stays in the body longer. That's why it was thought it might help people quit smoking.
How Does Anatabloc Work?
Here is the way Anatabloc was supposed to reduce chronic inflammation:
1. Anatabine enters the cells of the body where it…
2. Deactivates a protein called NFkB.
3. When NFkB is deactivated, it can't enter the nucleus of the cell (the brain center of the cell) to cause excessive cellular inflammation.
Inflammation is thought to play a role in MANY diseases, such as:
and many others.
So, if Anabloc worked, it might have disease-modifying benefits. If you read the comments below, you will see some people have said some pretty amazing things too.
Anatabloc Ingredients
Anatabloc contains these ingredients
Anatabine | 1 mg |
Vitamin A | 500 IU |
Vitamin D3 | 40 IU |
This review will focus only on Anatabine because this is “secret sauce” in Anatabloc.
Other Ingredients
These other ingredients are also found in this supplement: Mannitol, natural and artificial mint flavors, sucralose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide (color), natural glaze, methylparaben, propylparaben, triethyl citrate, citric acid, BHT, mono and diglycerides, and polysorbate 80
These ingredients played no role in the results or benefits of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Research
When this review was originally created, the proof for Anatabloc was mostly on lab animals. There is now human proof. This review will focus only on human research. Much of the research is on Anatabine, which is an active ingredient in Anatabloc. Still, proof for anatabine is proof for Antabloc.
Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals (more on them below) supports and plays a role in much of the research.
Studies On Anatabloc
In one report, researchers in the US gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 146 people with Hashimoto's disease – the most common form of hypothyroidism. People were given 9-24 mg of anatabine in the form of lozenges. Those taking Anatabloc saw a significant reduction in thyroid autoantibodies.
Some people saw over a 20% decrease in thyroid autoantibodies. This means better working thyroid glands.
One small study (10 people) noted a face cream containing anatabine improved skin appearance, reducing redness and blotchy skin appearance. This does make some sense. Niacin, which looks a little bit like anatabine has been used in skin creams for years.
Niacin is also VERY popular in the anti-aging world. See the Niagen review for more on this.
Anatabine cigarettes have been shown to reduce nicotine levels in smokers significantly. This study reflects the interest in using anatabine to help people quit smoking.
Because inflammation follows exercise, researchers were interested in seeing if anatabine would reduce inflammation after people worked out. In this study, 18 men were given either a placebo or 6-12 mg of anatabine per day for 10 days. They also performed an intense exercise program.
Unfortunately, this noted anatabine did not reduce pain, or swelling or help muscle strength. This is noteworthy, given TV commercials featuring pro golfers John Isner and Fred Couples.
In another exercise study, researchers gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 17 men. The dosage of Anatabloc used was 6-12 mg. While these researchers saw that Anatabloc did not reduce exercise-induced muscle damage, it did appear to reduce markers of inflammation such as C reactive protein (CRP). That is interesting.
Preliminary research suggests anatabine activates NFR2, a substance that raises naturally produced antioxidant defenses such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). This is at the heart of some proposed anti-aging supplements, such as Protandim and PB125.
There are also several lab animals and test-tube studies involving Anatabloc/anatabine. I won't cover them here because we are people and not mice, rats or test tubes.
Summary Of Anatabloc Research
Here is a summary of the Anatabloc human research:
- Anatabine reduced thyroid antibodies in people with hypothyroidism
- Anatabine lowers nicotine levels in smokers
- Anatibine did not reduce muscle damage, pain, or swelling but may lower CPR levels
Anatabloc Questions
Let's now answer some common questions people have asked me about this supplement.
Can Anatabloc help muscle soreness?
Muscle soreness after exercise (DOMS) is very common. Currently, the proof seems to show Anatabloc doesn't reduce muscle soreness, swelling or muscle damage. It may reduce a blood test marker of inflammation called CRP. I think we need more exercise research.
Can Anatabloc Help Concussions?
There is brain inflammation when someone gets a concussion. But there is no proof that taking Anatabloc:
- reduces the risk of getting a concussion
- improves recovery time after getting a concussion
- reduces brain damage from concussions
I cannot find any research involving anatabine and concussions.
In December 2013, the FDA sent a warning letter to Star Scientific – makers of Anatabloc – telling them to remove references on their websites which gave people the impression the supplement might help concussions and other forms of traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
For more on concussions and TBI see these reviews:
Can Anatabloc Help Multiple Sclerosis?
The proof that Anatabloc can help MS is in its infancy. There is some mouse evidence it may help, but no human studies have been conducted yet.
What About Anataboc and Weight Loss?
Websites might discuss how anatabine/Anatabloc can help people lose weight or reduce weight gain, which sometimes happens when people quit smoking. But there is no good proof for this. No study has looked at reducing gaining weight after quitting smoking.
What is CigRx?
This is the anti-smoking product Star Scientific was developing before it began researching anatabine for arthritis pain and other health problems. CigRx contains anatabine too.
Anatabloc Dosage
The general recommendation is to take 2 lozenges per day. Do not use more than 6 lozenges per day. Another dosage recommendations= take your body weight into consideration. Here the Anatabloc dosages would be:
- 100-120 lbs: 2 lozenges 3x per day
- 121-170lbs: 2 lozenges 4x per day
- 171-220lbs: 2 lozenges 5x per day
- over 220lbs: 2 lozenges 6x per day
I've never seen this dosage regimen used in human studies. So, I'm not sure how accurate this is.
Who Makes Anatabloc?
Anatabloc is a product of a company called Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals. Another name for this company is Star Scientific. Star Scientific was the original name of the company. When the research changed directions from looking at Anatabine as a cure for smoking to helping arthritis pain, the company changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals.
The phone number for the company was 800-778-2031. The company website was Anatabloc.com (the website no longer works). When this review was originally created, the Better Business Bureau listed the company address as 4470 Cox Rd Ste 110, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
There is also a connection to another company called the RosKamp Institute, located in Florida. Some of the research on Anatabloc has been conducted by this company too.
The company has since filed for bankruptcy and is no longer making Anatabloc supplements.
Should I Invest In Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals?
Star Scientific formally changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals in 2014. Its stock symbol is RCPI. It's a publicly traded company. Regardless of what you invest in, do your homework.
Be careful with “gurus” who talk stocks up on websites, as you don't always know who you are dealing with. Sometimes unscrupulous people say things about a company to create interest so they can pump the stock price up so they can dump it for a profit. This trick is sometimes called “pump and dump.” Unless you’re an investing pro (think Warren Buffett), I recommend you talk to a financial advisor before risking any money.
Anatabloc And The FDA
Many people think the FDA does not regulate supplements. Anatabloc is proof it does. Almost from the start, the FDA claimed anatabine contained a new dietary ingredient (NDI). A new dietary ingredient is any substance that was not sold as a supplement before 1994.
Products containing new dietary ingredients need to prove to the FDA they are safe. There is also the issue that anatabine is found in tobacco. Tobacco cannot be called a dietary supplement. I think this may also have played a role in the demise of Anatabloc.
Rock Creek pharmaceuticals state that because anatabine is found in things like peppers and eggplants, it is not new and can be sold as a supplement. In the end, the FDA won, and Rock Creek stopped making Anatabloc.
Calls To Bring Back The Sale Of Anatabloc
Problems with the FDA have not stopped people from hoping for the return of Anatabloc.
This has not stopped people who loved Anatabloc from continuing to hold out hope. Former customers have launched a petition at Change.org to petition the FDA to reverse their decision and let Anatabloc be sold again.
They created the website BringBackAnatabloc.org where you can share your testimony of how the supplement helped you, sign an FDA petition to bring Anatabloc back, and read news about the supplement.
How To Buy Anatabloc: Can You Still Purchase It?
While this supplement was once VERY popular and sold at GNC and other stores, it is no longer permitted to be sold in the US. The FDA forced Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals to stop the production of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Supplements
While Anatabloc is no longer able to be purchased in the US, I did notice other companies selling supplements said to contain anatabine.
One such company is HydraPharm (PredatorNutrition.com). They sell a supplement literally called “Anatablok” which they say contains “pure anatabine.” Predator Nutrition is not based in the US. I am not sure if they are allowed to ship their Anatablok supplement to the US.
The supplement is marked as an anti-inflammatory nootropic (brain enhancer) used to support memory and attention.
The Va Governor Controversy
As if things could not get worse, Rock Creek Pharm found itself at the center of a very public controversy involving the former Virginia governor, Robert McDonnell, and his wife. It's alleged Rock Creek gave $165,000 in gifts to the former Va governor and his wife in exchange for helping Rock Creek's development of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Side Effects
Anatabloc is probably safe for healthy people, at least for short-term use. Human research shows no significant negative side effects. Mild to moderate side effects reported have included:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Tingling feelings
- Insomnia
In the comments section below, one person reported feelings of depression. This has not been observed in clinical studies.
Does Anatabloc Work?
Despite the problems with the FDA, several people swore Anatabloc worked. I never experimented with it when it was being sold and the only person I knew who did try it told me it did not reduce his pain. Pain is complicated and its possible others may have had better results.
Unfortunately, Anatabolc supplements are no longer available in the US. While, in the past, I have been rather hard on this supplement and Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals, I was sad it was taken off the market. I am happy to see some human research on anatabine, look forward to more and hope one day to see it sold once again.
You should check out this report, Joe, I know you want to stay current. starscientific.com/2013-11-07-Star-Scientific-Announces-Leadership-Transition-Acceleration-of-Plans-for-Submission-of-an-IND-to-FDA-for-Pharmaceutical-Version-of-Anatabine-Compound
Mike, thanks. I applaud them for trying to speed up the process.
If they get approval for pharmaceutical version that would mean that one would have to get a prescription for it and since doctors (at least the ones I see) reject the whole idea, how would one then get ones hands on it? Or would they continue to sell Anatabloc as well as the pharmaceutical version?
Judith, if they can get it approved by the FDA and allow it to be prescribed by doctors, they can charge a lot more for it. That’s the way it works in the country with the worst health-care system of all the advanced nations. If I’m not mistaken, fish oil can now be prescribed — at much higher cost than the unregulated supplements. But the supplements are still available, so maybe the same will happen with Anatabloc. If, however, your doctor will prescribe Anatabloc for you, your insurance likely will cover it, and contribute to the rising cost of health insurance.
Thanks, Robert.
I actually was afraid that they were going to try to make it a prescription only thing. I agree with you about our “health” care “non-system”. I don’t want to have to rely on a doctor to prescribe something for me and since he doesn’t believe in its efficacy anyway, he probably wouldn’t write the prescription.
Not only do they have to get the FDA to approve it but they have to do a selling job to physicians who are always the last ones to accept a new protocol, e.g. sterilization, the concept of ulcers being caused by a bacteria, etc., etc.
Judith, From the first paragraph of the press release.
“The proxy statement outlines the Company’s plan to accelerate the submission of an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the FDA, with the assistance of a respected global contract research organization (CRO). The Company intends to continue the expansion of its dietary supplement business as well, including the addition of a time-release version of its Anatabloc® dietary supplement.”
I have read that, with a prescription, it may be available for less for those with co-pay programs.
Thanks, Mike. I did read that, but as I said, with my doctor’s attitude towards Anabloc, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get him to write a prescription, but then again, if the FDA does approve it for prescription use, maybe I’ll be able to get him to change his mind.
If it goes to pharma they’ve probably lost me…my doc was OK with anatabloc as she other patients “trying” it along with Zyflamend….but it will cost MORE and I can barely afford it now in the supplement form. I have no desire to support pharma more than I do now which isn’t too much with my few little meds…
The antics and ethics of this company bothered me from Day 1….
My chiro has been using cold laser therapy on areas of my body and it does help….I will continue that as he gives me a price break….
Furthermore, I can see it now if this happens, anatabloc will be splashed all over our tv’s at mega expense to pharma so they can sell more….and make their fat bucks…
So much corruption from the big wigs at the company…stinks….
Hi Joe,
I’ve read through all the posts and am very intrigued with Anatabloc. Are there any known effects on the liver or kidney from processing this supplement? Thank you for any advice.
Lizzie
Lizzie, I’m not aware of any liver or kidney effects from Anatabloc but if you have liver or kidney issues I recommend you ask your doctors first. Let me know what they say. I’m curious.
Steve, I think very highly of Dr. David Brownstein, director of the Center for Holistic Medicine. Here’s what he said about psoriatic arthritis in the current issue of his newsletter, Natural Way To Health: Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune inflammatory arthritic condition characterized by joint pains, nail changes, and tendonitis.
I have treated many patients with psoriatic arthritis. Like many other autoimmune conditions, an underlying infection is often part of the disease process. Unless the infection is properly diagnosed and treated, the illness progresses.
Mycoplasma, chlamydia, and human herpes virus 6 are common infectious organisms found in psoriatic arthritic patients. Antibiotic or antiviral therapy along with a holistic approach that emphasizes vitamins, minerals, and bioidentical hormones have proven their worth in my practice.
More than 80 percent of the psoriatic arthritic patients that I have treated with the approach that I outlined in my book “Overcoming Arthritis” have had very good results.
Hi Joe
Regarding clinical evidence out several days ago regarding thyroid and anatabine.
I surmise you will be revising the entire blog for this clinical evidence. You do know who Dr. Paul Ladenson is right?
Dr. Paul Ladenson
Director, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism
John Eager Howard Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism
Professor of Medicine, Pathology, Oncology, and Radiology & Radiological Sciences
adamr826, I won’t be revising my entire review because this was just 1 study. That said Im glad they addressed this issue because its something Ive been interested in myself. I will be including it in my review when I get to read the entire study and not just a summary. Im aware of the study and its already been linked to in the comments so no need to copy/paste the summary.
Does anybody have a PDF of the whole study they can email me?
I stopped using this supplement because after a month, there has been no improvement in my knee and leg pain fro RA and PA. Steve
found this Joe. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/31/va-starscientific-pub-idUSnPnPH2TZtg+16c+PRN20131031
Mike, thanks for that heads up! I will take a look at the study.
Hello, I have had Rheumatoid Arthritis for about 40 years. It was diagnosed as moderate RA but
also Psoriatic Arthritis. I tried the one month supply and used the 8 lozenges a day as recommended. I found very little, if any relief from pain. I used to take 2400mg of Ibuprofen
a day but had to stop because of problems with my kidney function.
I’d love to find a real answer to my pain other than an opiate which does allow me to sleep with only minor pain. I’m afraid that I’ll have to write this off as another of the dozens of “cures” that I have taken.
Steve
Steve, I wouldn’t give up after 1 month with your major issues…I know of a few on the Inspire board who were doing good with Anatabloc for the PA they deal with….The Roadback Foundation group use abx protocol for the RA they deal with, it’s from a Dr. Brown…. Check out those groups if you have not.
If I were you I’d continue on the Anatabloc, for me I still take it and had 4 good months in the beginning, I deal with OA and Fibro and other inflammatory issues, but ONLY WISH it were more affordable, my budget is tight and if only it were maybe 1/2 the cost, I’d be happier and take more per day.. I also buy for my daughter with her tendon inflammation issues, so cost is hard for me today.
Check out those groups I mentioned and if you CAN stay with it for at least 3 months…. j
I’m sure you are aware of nutrition…have you done research on Coconut Oil for the inflammatory issues. I take Coconut Oil daily. We need good oils and Coconut Oil is unique to say the least. I also take Omega 3’s….
Steve, depending on where you live, you probably can be relieved of your pain permanently through a treatment called Prolozone. It consists of injections, which are virtually painless, of ozone gas at the affected site. All of the information on the Internet speaks to its seemingly miraculous results. Just Google the word Prolozone and a list of items will come up.
In the U.S. and Canada, 700 doctors have been trained to administer it. To learn whether a doctor in your area uses Prolozone, go to oxygenhealingtherapies.com and click on Ozone Doctors in blue on the left side. Then click on your state, and the doctors in your state using it will be shown.
Steve, I also have moderately severe RA and am on Enbrel and Methotrexate injections to control it. I also have MRI-documented damage in my cervical and lumbar-sacral spines. I did NOT experience any benefit from Anatabloc either. I wish I had. I’m on opiates, but like you, I had to stop NSAIDS because they were affecting my renal function tests.
I am on an auto-immune diet that has helped a great deal-NO gluten, dairy products, eggs, soy or sugars, including honey. It has helped tremendously, except it had no effect on the pain. I still take half a dose of Anatabloc because of it’s anti-inflammatory effects, and I take anti-inflammatory supplements, such as turmeric (curcurmin), cinnamon, grape seed extract, etc., because the less inflammation, the better.
I learned about these supplements from Joy and Robert Brink, who comment on Joe’s website. I’ve learned A LOT from Joe and his commentators, who have all done wonderful work in researching ways to improve their health and are gracious enough to share. Best wishes to you in your effort to get healthier!
Hi Roseann,
Thanks for your note. My RA and PA are still with me and I’m going to give the Anatabloc another month to see if it is any more effective. As long as I keep moving, the pain is not too bad. I had to get off NSAID’s last year because my kidneys were showing some signs of dislike of any NSAID. Things seem to be better now. and as long as the barometer stays the same, things seem to stabilize.
Steve
I just tried this over the weekend. Got a free sample at GNC and was surprised that I was painfree the rest of the day. I currently have flare-ups in both elbows on the in the Tendons and one in my upper bicep. The pain returned the next day. So that has me wondering if this is a pain blocker or truly anti inflammatory that would allow the body to heal.
Either way it definitely worked for eliminating pain. Will be closely watching this product. If it is truly anti-inflammatory then they are really onto something with this product. Time will tell if its going to be an amazing drug with no side-effects for healing, or a pain blocker that is a better alternative to all the pain pills on the market. Currently i take neither and just exercise through the pain.
Ed, if you go to anatabloc.com, you will find a lot of information about how it is supposed to work. The following is from that website, which explains that it is indeed anti-inflammatory:
“Anatabloc® leverages the body’s natural process for regulating its own inflammation using anatabine, a naturally-occurring (sic) compound found in some plants, combined with Vitamin A and D3 to help the body to avoid excessive creation of inflammation. Pre-clinical studies have shown that this combination inhibits pro-inflammatory pathways, thereby helping maintain lower levels of inflammation.”

Abstract
Anatabine is a Solanaceae plant family alkaloid marketed in the United States as a dietary supplement. It has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in vivo and in vitro, and may be useful for musculoskeletal aches and pains. The purpose of this internet-based survey study was to provide more information about anatabine users who report benefits for joint pain or stiffness. Of the 282 survey respondents, 232 (82%) reported a benefit from anatabine supplementation for one or more joint pain conditions, most commonly the knee, wrists/hands/fingers, shoulder, and back, most often due to osteoarthritis or injury to the joint. Mean scores of joint pain and stiffness were significantly (P < 0.0001) reduced after starting anatabine supplementation, and for most respondents joint pain was virtually eliminated. Around 90% of all individuals rated the effect of anatabine supplementation as good or excellent for joint pain, stiffness, functionality, and overall effects. These results provide evidence that anatabine supplementation can lead to substantial improvement of musculoskeletal aches, pains, and stiffness, and can provide benefits in some individuals for various medical conditions in multiple joint locations.
Good luck and good health to all.
Allan, thanks for the heads up on this. I downloaded the study and looked at it. Few thoughts:
1. Its an internet survey of people. while surveys can be good, they are not the same as clinical/cellular research on the effects of anatabloc.
2. They sent out 709 emails to anatabloc users but only heard back from 282 (40% of the people). getting people to respond is an inherit problem with all surveys.
2. Everybody associated with this study are employees Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals (AKA Star scientific).
While I commend them for doing their own research on their product, Im more looking forward to the studies said to be completed on the anatabloc page of ClinicalTrials.gov (esp study #3 about the thyroid effects)
here is the link http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=Anatabloc&Search=Search
Thanks, Allan,
That’s what I’m looking for as well. The initial research on Anatabine had shown that it would eliminate the thyroid antibodies and that’s why I started taking Anatabloc. On my last blood tests, the results did show that I had “0” antibodies. My endocrinologist laughed at it, but I’m still taking Anatabloc and I, too am looking forward to the results of the study.
Amen, Joy. Drugs are chemicals. They poison your body. In critical circumstances, they may be necessary, but as you say, many natural alternatives exist and these hardly ever carry the awful side effects. If drugs were so great, the life expectancy rate in the United States, where pharmaceutical companies abound and their products are consumed by the barrelful, would be among the highest in the world. As of 2011, the U.S. was ranked No. 33, whereas nations such as Japan and many of the European countries, which rely more on natural treatments, rank far higher (Japan is No. 1).
Yes, Robert amen….I don’t want to spend much time her on bashing pharma drugs, but I could….Judith mentioned seeing an MD if one gets sick…I don’t like to brag, but I do, I have NOT been sick in over 20 yrs….arthritis and fibro stuff YES and a mess from a hip replacement, but NOT sick…
I’ve talked before about powerful antioxidants and I take them including grape seed extract (18 yrs), take Pycnogenol sometimes too, and have a bottle of Resveratrol on hand…I take one of them too on occasion, but grape seed extract every day for 18 yrs. My Immune System is tip top and IF I feel something might be coming on like a cold, which is not very often I hit my body with Echineaca and knock it off from anything happening to me…and I’ve taken NO flu shots for over 25 yrs….no way, no how….I never took that “shot” when I was in the workforce…I had the flu 2 times in my life, at 18 (asian flu) and again and I can’t remember when that was, I’m sure before I started grapeseed extract….
This is what saves me from sickness and good nutrition and Omega 3’s are very important I believe, many other supps too. j
Joe,
Great review and lots of comments. I found this site after searching for the benefits and side effects of Antatabloc, and like you, I didn’t find much out there. The reason I was searching for information on Anatabloc was, my local vitamin store gave me some sample packs of the product today.
I have always been very skeptical of free samples of products promising amazing effects or cures. This is especially so after the recent incidents of liver failures and deaths linked to OxyElite Pro, a sample of which the same vitamin store gave to me about a year ago, and I tossed unopened in a drawer.
This fall when I saw the first article on deaths linked to OxyElite Pro, I thought the name sounded familiar, and went and pulled the unopened sample bottle out of the drawer – sure enough, OxyElite Pro.
I have seen no evidence Anatabloc is harmful; it may even be beneficial; but for now I will just set it aside unopened for a few years and see what comes out in research and human trials. Thanks again for your research.
Leo
Leo, thanks for the words. Ive also been following the stories on Oxy Elite Pro. Before the liver failure problems, Oxy Elite Pro came under scrutiny earlier this year because DMAA, another one of its ingredients, appeared to be linked to the deaths of several people.
Leo — and Ed Ucasion — this has to be a labor of love. I spent 40 minutes digging stuff from the Internet and writing comments, and then hit some combination of two keys that wiped the whole thing out. I’m starting over.
I began with a cursory (two-minute) Internet search of Oxy Elite Pro that turned up info so scary I wouldn’t have touched the stuff with a 10-foot pole even without seeing the CNN report about liver failure and hepatitis. But you make a big mistake, I think, in linking that stuff, which is full of dangerous stimulants, with Anatabloc, which contains nothing harmful.
A wise and logical approach to any substance is to investigate it, not just lump all that are not approved by the FDA into a pile that you should avoid. I think people feel safer with FDA-approved substances. Virtually off of these products have side effects, many serious, but the producers are required to list them. People think they know what they’re getting. But do they? Here’s what a veteran heart surgeon said last year in admitting what he had come to realize over a period of years: “Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.”
If one researches the history of statin drugs, as I have, one learns that studies on their efficacy have been distorted as some of the study directors were board members of the companies that made the statin drugs. Statin drugs help only in extreme cases, every leading alternative doctor has been telling us for years, and they cause serious harm, include a weakening of muscles, one being the heart muscle.
I learned quite recently, to my amazement, that I have osteoporosis. I also have hypercalcemia, and asked the endocrinologist how it could be that high calcium, which builds bones, could cause bone loss. Her only explanation was that I am a thin white male and thus disposed to bone loss. I didn’t buy that and got to thinking. I take one drug, topiramate (Topomax), for essential tremor.
I decided to check on possible side effects, which no doctor has ever warned me about though I’ve taken it for five to six years. There it was: Not only can it cause kidney stones, which I have in abundance, but it can cause bone loss. I’m pretty sure that is the cause of my osteoporosis. If the manufacturer warned about it, I never saw it, and the doctors never told me. So much for the reliability of the FDA for safety. I never take any drug or supplement without thoroughly researching it first.
Now I have to try to rebuild those bones. The doctor listed possible drugs for that — FDA-approved, of course. I checked them out. The side effects are so awful I wouldn’t touch them. I’ve found a couple of natural alternatives.
As for Ed Ucasion’s advice to people to avoid Anatabloc, I have this to say: Your input, letting people know it did not work for you, is valuable. It doesn’t work for everyone, just the vast majority of people, judging from the results of users who have commented on this site. And how did you learn about Anatabloc?
I would guess that you read about it on this site and tried it because of those favorable comments. Are you now saying all those people were wrong, simply because it didn’t work for you? I had pains in various joints and those pains disappeared after I took Anatabloc. I also had lower-back pain, and it has diminished. I take only six tablets a day, though the dosage for my weight is eight, so if I took that many, the discomfort in the morning might be gone.
I think I know a solution to your back pain, but if you’re wedded to exclusively FDA-sanctioned treatments, you probably will continue to suffer unnecessarily. If you Google Prolozone, you will find a ton of information and see that 700 doctors in the United States and Canada use this totally natural, painless treatment with zero side effects, consisting mostly of ozone injections, to achieve almost miraculous, permanent healing of affected areas through extremely fast regrowth of cartilage and collagen.
Usually, three to five injections are needed, two weeks apart, at a cost of between $150 and $300 each. Doctors don’t make a lot of money on it. Back surgery at about $50,000 is slightly more lucrative — and usually doesn’t work. Oh, but hey, it’s thoroughly approved by the medical establishment. Of course, with that kind of money to be made. All of the websites say Prolozone works 75 percent of the time. Not every state has doctors that administer Prolozone.
You can find if your state does on the website oxygenhealingtherapies.com. One of the websites that comes up shows before-and-after X-rays of knees in which a bone-on-bone problem was solved with a separation between the bones after the therapy. Those were provided by Dr. Frank Shallenberger, who developed Prolozone and certifies doctors in its use.
Bob, I would NOT touch those high priced pharma drugs for anything…..I work with all alternatives….I tried to send you an email yesterday, but could not find you in my group….ummmm…
I will probably post what I was going to send you here….Manganese is vital for strong bones….what MD will tell us that? Who has ever had a mineral panel done, I did in 2005, and found what I was deficient in mineral wise and those minerals are vital for bone health…..
Joy, that’s very interesting. Where did you get the mineral panel done?
Judith, I see only Integrative MD’s since 2001 or so, gave up conventional medicine MD’s after a 10 yr long struggle with NOT getting thyroid help….but slapping on anti depressants for a 10 yr long depression, it was thyroid all those years and I kept getting that “you are normal” mantra….
In 2005 an integrative MD I was seeing and struggling, ordered a Red Blood Cell Elements panel of all minerals, good and bad… my lowest minerals were Manganese, Vanadium and Molybdenum.
It showed the toxic elements as well, arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury, thallium which were all High…. People do detox programs to help get rid of these toxins…
The lab she used is Doctor’s Data out of St. Charles, IL….I’m in Los Angeles area and we have many integrative MD’s….My insurance at the time did NOT pay so it was out of pocket…but worth finding out a lot of info…j
Thanks, Joy. I had gone for years telling doctors that I was hypothyroid, having a list of symptom, plus my mother and brother were both hypothyroid (Hasihi’s) but they always said that I was normal. Finally, there was a center here with an integrative MD who flew in from L.A. for a couple of weeks every 6 weeks or so and he was the first one who actually tested me for thyroid antibodies.
Right now, I’m on Medicare and don’t want to spend the money to pay for an integrative doctor on my own dime. I may do so in the future though.
Thanks for the great information
Judith, I’m on Medicare now for 10 yrs, and my IM MD takes medicare and I pay copays…I’m on straight medicare only and handle my copays….A couple other IM MDs in the area also take medicare…One IM I saw years ago, took Medicare but you had to pay upfront and they would bill medicare and then medicare would send the patient payment….but he recently dropped out of medicare….
There are worth their gold and if one can stretch the $$ or find a IM Md who takes medicare, that is great….
If my IM ever dropped medicare, I’d panic I’m sure….she may not be taking New Medicare patients, but I don’t know that, I know my neighbor started with her a couple yrs ago she is on medicare too.
Sad that conventional med is all drugs….
Thanks, Joy. I haven’t found one locally who does take Medicare. I’ll keep looking as I do like the idea. Regular doctors don’t care about your health. They’re really “sick” doctors. You just go to them if you’re sick.
PS: Judith….if one is “stuck” with a conventional MD, then use Dr. Google or Dr. Bing as much as possible for “alternatives” to those drugs they push…Unless it’s a lifesaving drug, then listen to MD….so so much can be managed with alternatives to those drugs…
So if my MD ever leaves Medicare I would have to search out an MD who is kinda into supps but continue with Dr. Google and the health groups I’m on….
My cousin is forever sending me good triva stuff and here is one for everyone to read. Note: the manganese, I take manganese daily for both health as it came up low in labs in 2005:
A Simple Pineapple – MUST Read
The pineapple is a member of the bromeliad family.
It is extremely rare that bromeliads produce edible fruit. The pineapple is the only available
edible bromeliad today.
It is a multiple fruit. One pineapple is actually made up of dozens of individual floweret’s
that grow together to form the entire fruit. Each scale on a pineapple is evidence of a
separate flower.
Pineapples stop ripening the minute they are picked.
No special way of storing them will help ripen them further.
Colour is relatively unimportant in determining ripeness.
Choose your pineapple by smell. If it smells fresh, tropical and sweet, it will be a good fruit.
The more scales on the pineapple, the sweeter and juicier the taste.
After you cut off the top, you can plant it.
It should grow much like a sweet potato will.
This delicious fruit is not only sweet and tropical; it also offers many benefits to our health.
Pineapple is a remarkable fruit.
We find it enjoyable because of its lush, sweet and exotic flavor, but it may also be one
of the most healthful foods available today.
If we take a more detailed look at it, we will find that pineapple is valuable for easing
indigestion, arthritis or sinusitis.
The juice has an anthelmintic effect; it helps get rid of intestinal worms.
Let’s look at how pineapple affects other conditions.
Pineapple is high in manganese, a mineral that is critical to development of strong bones
and connective tissue. A cup of fresh pineapple will give you nearly 75% of the
recommended daily amount.
It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to become brittle with age.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme, is the key to pineapple’s value.
Proteolytic means “breaks down protein”, which is why pineapple is known to be a
digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more efficiently.
Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory.
Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily is purported
to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. It also produces mild pain relief.
In Germany , bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication because it is
thought to reduce inflammation and swelling.
Orange juice is a popular liquid for those suffering from a cold because it is high in
Vitamin C. Fresh pineapple is not only high in this vitamin, but because of the
Bromelain, it has the ability to reduce mucous in the throat.
If you have a cold with a productive cough, add pineapple to your diet.
It is commonly used in Europe as a post-operative measure to cut mucous after
certain sinus and throat operations.
Those individuals who eat fresh pineapple daily report fewer sinus problems related
to allergies. In and of itself, pineapple has a very low risk for allergies.
Pineapple is also known to discourage blood clot development. This makes it a
valuable dietary addition for frequent fliers and others who may be at risk for blood clots.
An old folk remedy for morning sickness is fresh pineapple juice. It really works! Fresh
juice and some nuts first thing in the morning often make a difference.
It’s also good for a healthier mouth. The fresh juice discourages plaque growth.
DO SHARE THIS INFORMATIVE ARTICLE!!
Joy, thanks for sharing this incredible pineapple information! I have been avoiding pineapple because I thought it was too high in “sugar” content, but I’m buying some ASAP!!
Joe, thanks for the improvement in your site!! Before, when I wanted to reply to specific people, I had to scroll way down through the hundreds of comments to get to the “reply” part. Now it does that job for me!
Joy, Robert Brink, many others, and of course JOE have taken so much time to document research they have done on products (Leo on Oxy Elite-how scary is THAT!!?) procedures, etc (like Robert on Prolozone), this site ROCKS! It’s my favorite go-to site. I will never again order something without investigating it first!!
And I appreciate reading the info that people provide after their personal researching of different products, foods, supplements, procedures, etc.
Roseann, thanks for the feedback on the redesign of the site 🙂
Roseann, all fruits have sugar, but Pineapple is not that high, and it has so many other good factors…I used to buy fresh pineapple a lot but not in the mood NOW to prepare it….I keep frozen pineapple chunks I buy from whole foods and trader joes in my freezer as I use both pineapple and blueberries in my daily morning green drink…..I don’t over dose but as with everything MODERATION….I think a cup of the pineapple chunks from whole foods is 13g sugar for a cup..I don’t use a whole cup at a time…. A good bromalain supplement can help inflammation, I am on and off with that supp, but I just ordered a bottle today with my supp order…
I too like the good info from the folks here, we all help each other, I appreciate that for sure…
That’s interesting. I do tend to have an issue with my blood glucose although it’s within the normal range. I had been avoiding “high glycemic” foods, like pineapple because of that but after reading your posting, I did google pineapple/glycemic index and found some intersting info which was great because I do love pineapple: ” Thanks to the glycemic load, carrots and other high-glycemic fruits and veggies aren’t considered so bad for you anymore, which is a good thing as potatoes, carrots, watermelon, and the like are often loaded with important nutrients.
Pineapple (GI 59; GL 7): Being a tropical fruit, pineapple is naturally loaded with vitamin C, but it also contains a special substance called bromelain, which has shown potential as an anti-inflammatory as well as a digestive aid.”
Thanks!
Dear Joy, thanks to you, I have already purchased a couple big pineapples and have been enjoying them A LOT. I’m sure I’ll go to the frozen pineapple soon to save time, but yum, my fresh pineapple sure tastes good!! Like you, I so much enjoy reading about the things people do to get and keep themselves healthy.
Most of us who read Joe’s research are people who want to feel better without taking Pharma drugs. We ARE like a community of like-minded individuals who want to share what has helped us, so that others may hopefully benefit. Thanks to Joe, who allows us to share all of our experiences with each other!!!!!
Roseann, my pleasure – and thank you too because I learn a lot from you guys also 🙂
Roseann, you are a sweetheart. Thanks for your comments.
Dear Robert, it’s true. You have done incredible amounts of research and are willing to share your work with others. Kind of like our “Main Geek”, Joe.
I can only give you my experience with Anatabloc. I have significant lower back pain diagnosed as constant inflammation through the ‘loss of strength per square centimeter methodology’ and biomarkers at a respected arthritis clinic. To be fair I gave it sixty days at the recommended 8 pills per day.
There was not even the slightest noticeable effect either subjectively or empirically. It is my opinion the cost versus the dosage levels versus improbable claimed reductions in inflammation make this a major disservice to the public.
When the manufactures can produce definitive ‘human’ studies on large cross spectrum population groups I would not encourage anyone to waste their money.
There appears to be a lot of positive feedback for people with joint pain. What about muscle issues? For the past few years, I’ve been dealing with neck/shoulder pain and headaches related to muscular tension. I had an MRI which didn’t show anything abnormal for someone my age, which is 48. At it’s worse, a couple years ago, I even had cortisone shots at the base of my skull due to a daily headache for almost 6 months.
Fortunately, I no longer have the daily headaches but I’m still stiff and have reduced flexibility and mobility. I’ve recently started yoga, which I’m sure can’t hurt, but feel I have some underlying inflammation issue that visits to the Dr and Physical Therapist haven’t relieved.
This seems promising and was wondering what users of the Anatabloc think or if perhaps there are other recommendations as well.
Thanks, Gary
Gary, I was going to suggest Yoga – glad you are trying that! Because of the lack of research its hard to know if Anatabloc helps muscle issues but If you try it, I think you’ll know in about 2 months at most if its going to help.
Gary, Anatabloc is not a cure all….I’ve had stiffness in my lower back for many years and I’m 75, for me it’s degenerative disc disease….stretching and moving as much as possible is important….I do some yoga stretches at home….watch the steroid shots, they can make more bone damage….give a look at acupuncture, I’ve done quite a bit and also Prolotherapy injections….these are not damaging and can give good relief…
My journey has been trying on anatabloc but I stay with it as I had 4 really good months in the beginning…I’ve added Zyflamend…I’m moons older than you…and sadly things do get worse with joints….
Cut out a lot of sugars…..j
I think Anatabloc has helped with my muscle/fascia pain, but I do have some other suggestions. Yoga-regular classes-helps a lot. The intense twisting/stretching is very helpful for the pain. Another thing…don’t laugh – water. Really. I have had very bad fascial pain for years. When my trainer at the gym checked my body composition, she said that my hydration was very low. I bought one of those body composition scales and saw that my hydration was only 48%. I try to keep it up above 50% now.
When I wake up with intense pain in my neck/shoulders, I check my hydration level and it’s usually 48% or even worse and when I drink enough water to bring it up above 50%, the pain really subsides. I’ve read several books about the effect of water on the muscles/fascia and it’s really true.
Also, vitamin D. My endocrinologist tested me and I was deficient in vitamin D so he prescribed 50,000 IU of vitamin D2 once a week, which did nothing. He up’d it by Dr. Michael Holick, who has been researching Vitamin D for about 30 years and is the foremost authority on Vitamin D. He and others say that the best source of Vitamin D is the sun and to use it for small amounts of time but that if you can’t get the right sunlight (northern hemisphere) then there is a vitamin D sunlamp, the Sperti lamp, which I invested in (it’s about $400).
You use it for 5 minutes every other day, alternating which part of the body – upper front, upper back, etc. Only then did my vitamin D level go up and it does reduce muscle, fascia, bone pain.
Thank you for your very good information!! Wow, Joe’s site and the people who comment have helped me immensely! I’ve been an RN-BSN for almost 40 years and have never heard the things I’ve learned on this site. Thank you, Judith for the great advice you’ve given!
Joy,
thank you for those comments… My hands and feet are always freezing, my doctors told me poor circulation, had my veins done in both my legs,(which left me with nerve damage to my shins, very painful) my feet are still freezing
could you let me know the websites and books you read, i am tired of not feeling myself.
Lynn: Send me an email: (email removed per Joy’s request)
I don’t think Joe wants us to get off topic too much here….j
No I don’t take any thyroid support, selenium or iodine? what doses do you take? My doctor never told me to take anything except for T3, that’s the only medicine I am on right now.
Oh Lynn, thyroid support is so unique and every doc I swear is different in their approach and just plain ignorant to thyroid health.
All I can say is that for 10 long years from 1991 to 2002, I had a major depression and on so many frigging combos of A/D’s….that MD at the time kept telling me my thyroid was FINE, but I was depressed and hence the dam drugs…my gut told me all those years it was a sluggish thyroid….but I knew nothing back then…..when I finally got on Armour in 2002 by my D.O. who called in Armour script on the phone, no labs nadda, the depression lifted….I knew my thyroid needed FOOD.
I’ve been on a couple thyroid support group boards and learned so much, read 2 great books and now on Mary Shomon’s support board and still learning.
If you feel good, then that is great, good that the Hashi is gone but if you still feel like you need some help, go to a thyroid group….iodine is vital as I said and selenium too, selenium especially for Hashi….I learned all that…
I’ve never had any stomach or side effects from any of my thyroid supporters, the sadness is that TOO MANY don’t get a proper dx or get the right support. I know enough friends who need better support but they just live with it……
One friend’s hands are always like ice, she is on a low dose Synthroid for mega years, never a change, she needs more dosing but I’m not her doc….I tell her it’s Your Thyroid…. if she thinks she’s ok, then I need to let go. With the colder months coming, the thyroid OFTEN needs more HELP. It’s our body’s thermostat.
Hi Joy,
I am in a similar situation. I’ve already posted my thyroid antibodies were 3655, just got my latest blood work back…drum roll please… they are down to 99.2. I have been taking anatabloc for 2 years now. I know it’s from the anatabloc!!
After having taking Anatabloc for about 3 months, my thyroid antibodies were zero (0). I called my doctor to ask if he thought that I should reduce the thyroid medication and he just laughed and said that the antibodies were now 0 because of the thyroid medication, not Anatabloc.
Of course I’ve been on the thyroid medication for 3 years and this is the firs time I have no antibodies, after having taken Anatabloc. The medical community is unbelievably slow to adapt to new things.
I can’t say FOR SURE Anatabloc was the total “kinda cure” for the Hashi antiobodies, as I have been taking Armour since 2002, added Iodine daily about 2 yrs ago and same with Selenium, about 3-4 yrs ago……So, don’t know for sure…
I’ve only had TPO’s tested 4 times since 2003, so don’t know how high they really went but know one test showed 841. But it was good to see the 84 this week on reports.
I ONLY WISH the pain issues would leave/reduce my body, they did from Jan-April and things changed….so I continue with Abloc, usually 6 per day and Zyflamend too. Again, I’d like to see Abloc much lower in price….
I had no clue antiobodies could go into thousands….I think it’s Lynn who said the 3000’s, does that mean you do NOT take thyroid support, selenium or iodine? just wondering. Iodine is so critical for so much including breast health and many other health issues…..we are deficient in this country.
I tried taking selenium but it raised my blood sugar and irritated by stomach (difficult stomach) and as for iodine, there have been contradictory reports, some saying it’s what you need and others saying that it actually causes problems. I tried taking it but stopped and really saw no changes while I was taking it. I’m just taking Tirosint, a liquid form of levythyroxine because my stomach reacts violently with any of the pill forms, including Armour.
Joe, I guess you’re right about natural substances possibly having adverse reactions with drugs. Hadn’t thought that through clearly.
Robert, no worries 🙂
Hashimoto’s Laab Report TPO Labs…..I was given the Hashi dx in 2003 when I started on the HypoT path/journey…..at that time my labs were 204 (High)….
They need to be less than 34 I believe.
Then along the journey I had TPO’s done two times and once some yrs ago the labs were 804 (HIGH)….then a year or so later down to 533 (STILL HIGH)….
I didn’t get the TPO tests every year, why I don’t know….but I had them done a couple weeks ago with my annual labs and low and behold a nicer 84 (Still High)…but down a lot.
Hashimoto’s disease is a disorder that affects your thyroid, a small gland at the base of your neck, below your Adam’s apple. The thyroid gland is part of your endocrine system, which produces hormones that coordinate many of your body’s activities.
In Hashimoto’s disease, also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, your immune system attacks your thyroid gland. The resulting inflammation often leads to an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). Hashimoto’s disease is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. It primarily affects middle-aged women, but also can occur in men and women of any age and in children.
I have to believe the much much lower labs are due to Anatabloc and perhaps Iodine too which I take daily…..
Anatabloc is attacking the inflammation of the thyroid……
Hi….do you know if Anatabloc has an adverse reaction with prescription drugs? I take a blood pressure pill, statin and a pill for Type 2 Diabetes? I’m thinking of trying Anatabloc. I found Supplement Geek because I saw the Athri-D infomercial and I googled it. You are really helping a lot of people out by providing all of this information and I truly appreciate this. 🙂
Leah, that’s very nice of you to say and I really do appreciate it! Ive never heard of Anatabloc having side effects with the medications you take but just to double check I would recommend you ask your pharmacist or doctor about this. I dont think there has been any drug interaction studies on Anatabloc so I think this is prudent.
Can I ask if you are doing any type of exercise? I’m not a doctor but based on what you said about having type II diabetes, it’s possible that if you treated that, it might help your blood pressure and cholesterol levels and reduce your pain so that you do not need anatabloc. Here are links to my personal site where I have written about type II diabetes. This is something I feel very strongly about and I show them to you in the hopes that they help, if they apply to you.

I wrote these because I care. I hope they help.
Hi Leah —–
I am not a Dr. so am not giving medical advice to you. But my short answer is no, Anatabloc will not cause adverse reactions with blood pressure medication or statins. I cannot answer your question re: your pill for Type 2 Diabetes, but my guess would be no.
My personal testimony includes the following among others:
I have been taking 3 different blood pressure medications for years and a statin for the same amount of time.
I have been taking Anatabloc ever since it was made available, Over 2 years I think and when I started taking Anatabloc I had many improvements in my health. My blood pressure was further moderated and now consistently runs in the 120 +/- over 78+/- range and my cholesterol dropped from around 205+/- to the 165+/- range.
I’m 70 &1/2 yrs. old and weigh around 200.
Other:
C-RP runs <.1 on a reference range of < 1.0
Year around allergies have been eliminated.
Major pain in my ankles has been eliminated.
Teeth have tightened up.
Gums are healthier.
Finger nails and toe nails grow fast, strong and healthier.
Life long swollen lymph glands from an accident are now normal.
Certain moles have disappeared.
Wart on the bottom of my left foot has stopped growing and is going away.
Senior aches & pains are much less.
Arthritis in my fingers has moderated considerably.
Full disclosure reminder: Anatabloc has meant so much to me and I believe that it is a miracle discovery that I have purchased and do now own stock in the company, Star Scientific, Inc.
Good luck and good health.
Leah, I’ve heard from SO MANY who take those Dang statins and end up with muscle joint pains…that is a major side effect of those drugs….There are other ways and also do a search on the Cholesterol Myth….
Cholesterol is not the issue as pharma would like us to believe….question the pharma world….
Weston Price does a lot of work on the cholesterol world so you can find a lot info from that foundation.
Grape Seed Extract will help to reduce effects of diabetes and one can control that disease too.
I just bought this today for ulcerative colitis. Have you heard any success stories for my problem?
Emily, I have not heard of any but maybe somebody reading this has. Best I can say since you have it is give it a try and see if it helps.
Emily, there is a lot of info out there on UC (colitis) and Anatabloc, do some research and hopefully some one here will make a comment…that’s not my issue but I have my own..
Alan: Please keep ME posted on GNC specials, I finally got a credit (took 5 days) and now I have a gold card, but I get charged sales tax here in CA…..
I have been in pain for over one year from achilles tendentious with a heel bone spur in the same location. i do not want to take steroids, although they did reduce the pain. — anatabloc has reduced the pain and inflammation noticeably. i have not noticed any side effects. i would say the pain has been decreased by about 25% which to me is well worth the $80. i paid at gnc. (if you join as a member which costs $15.)
Margo, my daughter gets pain relief from a collapsed tendon in her foot, from a weight gain from a pharma drug….don’t get me started on those drugs….
A surgery would be a LONG recovery and who knows what the outcome would be…when they cut us, we never know…she’s taking A about 4 months now…
