Update 12/6/22. At one time, Anatabloc was a SUPER popular anti-inflammation supplement. It was sold online and at GNC and elsewhere. It was touted to help reduce pain, help joints and arthritis pain, and reduce chronic inflammation. Anatabloc was unique. It contained an ingredient not found in any other supplement I've EVER seen in over 20 years of investigation. This unique ingredient also contributed to its own downfall. In this unbiased, updated review, I reveal everything you need to know about Anatabloc, from its rise – and fall – to the research and proof and the company which made it. I'll also shed light on other anatabloc supplements too.
What Is Anatabloc
Before we talk about Anatabloc (sometimes misspelled Anatablock), I need to tell you about Anatabine (also called anatabine citrate). Anatabine is the active ingredient in Anatabloc. Anatabine is a chemical found in
- eggplants
- potatoes
- green tomatoes
as well as tobacco and tobacco smoke (remember this).
Chemically, anatabine “looks” like nicotine. Because of this, it was also used some anti-smoking supplements. Anatabine has a longer half life than nicotine, so it stays in the body longer. That's why it was thought it might help people quit smoking.
How Does Anatabloc Work?
Here is the way Anatabloc was supposed to reduce chronic inflammation:
1. Anatabine enters the cells of the body where it…
2. Deactivates a protein called NFkB.
3. When NFkB is deactivated, it can't enter the nucleus of the cell (the brain center of the cell) to cause excessive cellular inflammation.
Inflammation is thought to play a role in MANY diseases, such as:
and many others.
So, if Anabloc worked, it might have disease-modifying benefits. If you read the comments below, you will see some people have said some pretty amazing things too.
Anatabloc Ingredients
Anatabloc contains these ingredients
Anatabine | 1 mg |
Vitamin A | 500 IU |
Vitamin D3 | 40 IU |
This review will focus only on Anatabine because this is “secret sauce” in Anatabloc.
Other Ingredients
These other ingredients are also found in this supplement: Mannitol, natural and artificial mint flavors, sucralose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide (color), natural glaze, methylparaben, propylparaben, triethyl citrate, citric acid, BHT, mono and diglycerides, and polysorbate 80
These ingredients played no role in the results or benefits of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Research
When this review was originally created, the proof for Anatabloc was mostly on lab animals. There is now human proof. This review will focus only on human research. Much of the research is on Anatabine, which is an active ingredient in Anatabloc. Still, proof for anatabine is proof for Antabloc.
Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals (more on them below) supports and plays a role in much of the research.
Studies On Anatabloc
In one report, researchers in the US gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 146 people with Hashimoto's disease – the most common form of hypothyroidism. People were given 9-24 mg of anatabine in the form of lozenges. Those taking Anatabloc saw a significant reduction in thyroid autoantibodies.
Some people saw over a 20% decrease in thyroid autoantibodies. This means better working thyroid glands.
One small study (10 people) noted a face cream containing anatabine improved skin appearance, reducing redness and blotchy skin appearance. This does make some sense. Niacin, which looks a little bit like anatabine has been used in skin creams for years.
Niacin is also VERY popular in the anti-aging world. See the Niagen review for more on this.
Anatabine cigarettes have been shown to reduce nicotine levels in smokers significantly. This study reflects the interest in using anatabine to help people quit smoking.
Because inflammation follows exercise, researchers were interested in seeing if anatabine would reduce inflammation after people worked out. In this study, 18 men were given either a placebo or 6-12 mg of anatabine per day for 10 days. They also performed an intense exercise program.
Unfortunately, this noted anatabine did not reduce pain, or swelling or help muscle strength. This is noteworthy, given TV commercials featuring pro golfers John Isner and Fred Couples.
In another exercise study, researchers gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 17 men. The dosage of Anatabloc used was 6-12 mg. While these researchers saw that Anatabloc did not reduce exercise-induced muscle damage, it did appear to reduce markers of inflammation such as C reactive protein (CRP). That is interesting.
Preliminary research suggests anatabine activates NFR2, a substance that raises naturally produced antioxidant defenses such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). This is at the heart of some proposed anti-aging supplements, such as Protandim and PB125.
There are also several lab animals and test-tube studies involving Anatabloc/anatabine. I won't cover them here because we are people and not mice, rats or test tubes.
Summary Of Anatabloc Research
Here is a summary of the Anatabloc human research:
- Anatabine reduced thyroid antibodies in people with hypothyroidism
- Anatabine lowers nicotine levels in smokers
- Anatibine did not reduce muscle damage, pain, or swelling but may lower CPR levels
Anatabloc Questions
Let's now answer some common questions people have asked me about this supplement.
Can Anatabloc help muscle soreness?
Muscle soreness after exercise (DOMS) is very common. Currently, the proof seems to show Anatabloc doesn't reduce muscle soreness, swelling or muscle damage. It may reduce a blood test marker of inflammation called CRP. I think we need more exercise research.
Can Anatabloc Help Concussions?
There is brain inflammation when someone gets a concussion. But there is no proof that taking Anatabloc:
- reduces the risk of getting a concussion
- improves recovery time after getting a concussion
- reduces brain damage from concussions
I cannot find any research involving anatabine and concussions.
In December 2013, the FDA sent a warning letter to Star Scientific – makers of Anatabloc – telling them to remove references on their websites which gave people the impression the supplement might help concussions and other forms of traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
For more on concussions and TBI see these reviews:
Can Anatabloc Help Multiple Sclerosis?
The proof that Anatabloc can help MS is in its infancy. There is some mouse evidence it may help, but no human studies have been conducted yet.
What About Anataboc and Weight Loss?
Websites might discuss how anatabine/Anatabloc can help people lose weight or reduce weight gain, which sometimes happens when people quit smoking. But there is no good proof for this. No study has looked at reducing gaining weight after quitting smoking.
What is CigRx?
This is the anti-smoking product Star Scientific was developing before it began researching anatabine for arthritis pain and other health problems. CigRx contains anatabine too.
Anatabloc Dosage
The general recommendation is to take 2 lozenges per day. Do not use more than 6 lozenges per day. Another dosage recommendations= take your body weight into consideration. Here the Anatabloc dosages would be:
- 100-120 lbs: 2 lozenges 3x per day
- 121-170lbs: 2 lozenges 4x per day
- 171-220lbs: 2 lozenges 5x per day
- over 220lbs: 2 lozenges 6x per day
I've never seen this dosage regimen used in human studies. So, I'm not sure how accurate this is.
Who Makes Anatabloc?
Anatabloc is a product of a company called Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals. Another name for this company is Star Scientific. Star Scientific was the original name of the company. When the research changed directions from looking at Anatabine as a cure for smoking to helping arthritis pain, the company changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals.
The phone number for the company was 800-778-2031. The company website was Anatabloc.com (the website no longer works). When this review was originally created, the Better Business Bureau listed the company address as 4470 Cox Rd Ste 110, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
There is also a connection to another company called the RosKamp Institute, located in Florida. Some of the research on Anatabloc has been conducted by this company too.
The company has since filed for bankruptcy and is no longer making Anatabloc supplements.
Should I Invest In Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals?
Star Scientific formally changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals in 2014. Its stock symbol is RCPI. It's a publicly traded company. Regardless of what you invest in, do your homework.
Be careful with “gurus” who talk stocks up on websites, as you don't always know who you are dealing with. Sometimes unscrupulous people say things about a company to create interest so they can pump the stock price up so they can dump it for a profit. This trick is sometimes called “pump and dump.” Unless you’re an investing pro (think Warren Buffett), I recommend you talk to a financial advisor before risking any money.
Anatabloc And The FDA
Many people think the FDA does not regulate supplements. Anatabloc is proof it does. Almost from the start, the FDA claimed anatabine contained a new dietary ingredient (NDI). A new dietary ingredient is any substance that was not sold as a supplement before 1994.
Products containing new dietary ingredients need to prove to the FDA they are safe. There is also the issue that anatabine is found in tobacco. Tobacco cannot be called a dietary supplement. I think this may also have played a role in the demise of Anatabloc.
Rock Creek pharmaceuticals state that because anatabine is found in things like peppers and eggplants, it is not new and can be sold as a supplement. In the end, the FDA won, and Rock Creek stopped making Anatabloc.
Calls To Bring Back The Sale Of Anatabloc
Problems with the FDA have not stopped people from hoping for the return of Anatabloc.
This has not stopped people who loved Anatabloc from continuing to hold out hope. Former customers have launched a petition at Change.org to petition the FDA to reverse their decision and let Anatabloc be sold again.
They created the website BringBackAnatabloc.org where you can share your testimony of how the supplement helped you, sign an FDA petition to bring Anatabloc back, and read news about the supplement.
How To Buy Anatabloc: Can You Still Purchase It?
While this supplement was once VERY popular and sold at GNC and other stores, it is no longer permitted to be sold in the US. The FDA forced Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals to stop the production of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Supplements
While Anatabloc is no longer able to be purchased in the US, I did notice other companies selling supplements said to contain anatabine.
One such company is HydraPharm (PredatorNutrition.com). They sell a supplement literally called “Anatablok” which they say contains “pure anatabine.” Predator Nutrition is not based in the US. I am not sure if they are allowed to ship their Anatablok supplement to the US.
The supplement is marked as an anti-inflammatory nootropic (brain enhancer) used to support memory and attention.
The Va Governor Controversy
As if things could not get worse, Rock Creek Pharm found itself at the center of a very public controversy involving the former Virginia governor, Robert McDonnell, and his wife. It's alleged Rock Creek gave $165,000 in gifts to the former Va governor and his wife in exchange for helping Rock Creek's development of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Side Effects
Anatabloc is probably safe for healthy people, at least for short-term use. Human research shows no significant negative side effects. Mild to moderate side effects reported have included:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Tingling feelings
- Insomnia
In the comments section below, one person reported feelings of depression. This has not been observed in clinical studies.
Does Anatabloc Work?
Despite the problems with the FDA, several people swore Anatabloc worked. I never experimented with it when it was being sold and the only person I knew who did try it told me it did not reduce his pain. Pain is complicated and its possible others may have had better results.
Unfortunately, Anatabolc supplements are no longer available in the US. While, in the past, I have been rather hard on this supplement and Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals, I was sad it was taken off the market. I am happy to see some human research on anatabine, look forward to more and hope one day to see it sold once again.
I am allergic to asprin and all NSAIDS. I have Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis along with cervical degeneritive disc disease. I’m only 51 and I cannot sit in the same position for longer than 15 min. without experiencing pain. I’m desperate. I’m going to order the trail and see what happens.
Camille, I did the trial and now into my 4th month, prior to Anatabloc I could NOT sit for longer than 15 min or so due to spinal stenosis from a hip replacement complications….now I can sit for hours…I just came in from dinner with friends and we talked about my progress and knew how I could not sit and we sat for 2 hrs at dinner….I deal with Fibro and advanced OA and I still take advil but less and NO tylenol…I’m taking 8 Anatabloc per day. and sleep at least 9 hrs per night….my fibro pain is about gone for the most part….but I’m not out of all pain, but doing much better overall. I’m 74…Hope it works for you. It’s worth it if it helps.
I took Anatabloc for two days in a row. I had a heavy feeling in my chest and started coughing. I didn’t like that so I stopped taking it. I just wanted to share my side effects.
Thanks Nancy. I hope you are feeling better today.
Joe, You are correct that it shouldn’t take 1-2 months to see results. I wonder if anyone who has been on “A” for over 2 months has had a blood profile taken. That might shed some light. In my case, the changes are very subtle such as better fingernail growth which I wouldn’t have noticed if I quit before 2 months.
From this Board, we’re seeing some people very pleased, others who say it is a waste, and Joy who says it may be losing its impact after 4 months. Thanks again for hosting this Board. Your efforts are appreciated.
Thanks Jay, I appreciate you saying that. Im as curious about this as everybody else is too.
Jay, about losing it’s impact, I just want MORE for this chronically pained body….but I am getting results, I’ve listed my results at a point recently…sleeping 9+ hrs in no pain is a huge one, I deal with advanced OA, Fibro and a messy hip replacement and almost 75 yrs of wear and tear.
I started on Cig-rx in aprilor may of 2011 and then went to the ANATABLOC. I tried it for rotator cuff pain that I have dealt with since about 2000. That pain was relieved fairly quickly but as I remained on it and continued with the A other things became evident. I would say it was about 7or 8 months total for my prostate relief which was unexpected.
Even then I was still getting up maybe once a night but now it has been close to 2 years total on it and I can’t remember the last time I got up for that reason at all! SO yes some things might take longer than others to help!
FrankL, ok to quote you, no names of course, not that it makes any big diff, lots of Franks in the world…I have a friend talking about rotator cuff surgery, can’t believe how people jump to surgeries…I’m not sure of her issue, but I’ve told her about Prolotherapy and my shoulder and now how Abloc is helping me….is it ok to show your review on the rotator cuff…joy
Certainly show it to her we are all here to share our successes and our failures and if it helps someone else with their pains than that is great! I hope you continue to get better as time goes on somethings do show up after continued use that you don’t even expect. Best of luck to your friend also!! Frank L
I tested Anatabloc a few month ago. A friend of mine (an anesthesiologist) was trying it and told me it seemed to remove the “fogginess” in the head. I didn’t notice any changes in my case, but on the other hand I didn’t have any inflammatory issues at the time. I play tennis 5 days a week with relatively high intensity, and I didn’t notice any recovery improvement.
I gave the product for testing to 4 friends, including an international level tennis player. Nobody noticed any marked difference. As I am having some tendinitis right now (tennis elbow), I am going to test the product again, and post the results.
The results vary! There are many things anatabloc has helped myself and the people around me with. Prosiasis, lower stress levels, less aches and pains, less moody, different skin conditions, migraines, allergies the list is very long! U need to give anatabloc about 1-2 months and pay attentions to every aspect of your body!
Eliad, considering that the majority of studies on Anatabloc are mouse studies, I dont see the proof that it can take 1-2 months to know if it works in humans. That may be what people are experiencing but as far as I can tell from the published studies, I see nothing about this.
Let’s Face it…the more issues a person deals with, the more pain meds a person takes, the aging factor, the older a person is…all are factors as far as I can see it…I’ve been a mess of pain in the last 2.5 yrs, MOST all from a nasty hip replacement and Abloc is helping me so much with my issues…it all Depends on a lot….
You guys want exact I’ll give u exact! First off when I was working out I noticed my joints felt great within 2-3 weeks! I was less sore from all my cardio kick boxing classes! From going 3 times a week doing 1hr classes I was going 4 times a week and working out an hour before clad would start! I had 10 friends also try anatabloc fall 2011 and 8 out of ten resorted less soreness from gym workouts just 1 week on anatabloc! Those result were from 6 a day!
Now as far as the psoriasis I never knew when I started taking abloc that it would help me with either my psoriasis or anxiety! But I can tell you from other peoples experiences results happen fast!
My crp was 1.5. today it’s .5 I take 12-15 anatabloc a day! My body has never had more energy it’s like being a college kid all over again! My feet used to peel on there souls now my feet are smooth as silk! My allergies bother me only twice a year and I get sick twice a year as well! I feel super human because I’m hardly stressed! My friends sees by anatabloc as well! Reporting less aches and pains!
I even had a friends father saying that abloc has helped him with gout! I can go on for hours…. But I’ll wait for the science to come out to make me look like a genius because being on this from October 2011 is way ahead of the curve compared to people who have been on it weeks or maybe months! Do your homework people cause its the real deal!
Elias, thanks for your words. I was particularly interested that you said your CRP level dropped from 1.5 to 0.5. About how long did did it take for this change to occur?
on 7/19/2012 it was 1.5 and on 11/29/12 it was .5 i can email u my blood works. one thing to note my crp on 4-2-2010 was 1.65 Obviously in 2010 i wasn’t on anything to lower my crp nor did i know what it meant. Now on the lab i did in July 2012 i wasn’t on anatabloc for at least 12hours. i wanted to be on an empty stomach! then in November when i did my labs i was taking anatabloc in the morning like i normally do. If u want i can email u labs. Dr Harry Fisch was one of the doctors he raved about my blood work!
elias, no need to send, I’ll take your word for it. Im glad you got you CPR levels measured. Why Star Scientific hasn’t yet published any big CRP study is a mystery to me. I’d think what you did would be a no-brainier for them. Glad its helping you.
My honest opinion is it of very little value! I gave it 2 months and all it gave me was a dizzy headache!
Joe, I notice that fred Couples is doing quite well at The Masters this weekend. I believe he has been a spokesperson for “A” ever since he had a period of severe back pains and he said “A” helped. Sorry to hear that Joy is not showing continued improvement. I’m about one month behind Joy in duration with “A” and am still improving. Hope it continues. By improving I mean I now only take an evening aspirin vs the 2 daily I was taking.
Jay, I noticed him doing well also. Fred has a little “anatabloc” on his sleeve so yes hes still a spokesperson.
Bernie – as I said I would do, I have searched for the reference to liver toxicity I saw before. I cannot find it. I believe it was the article that Joy referenced on the Anatabloc website that has been removed. I have not seen any other references to this issue. If I had any question about my liver, however, I would certainly seek my doctor’s advice before taking this.
I read about investing in a mystery company through an ad for Technology Today investment- they wanted you to buy the newsletter to find out what it was. This product was going to change the treatment of many inflammatory conditions- states were going to buy a product from which this one was developed to get their employees to quit smoking- & on & on. From the clues, I figured it out, the company, went to the web site and read the research- all very promising with many applications. [Lately there is a flyer in almost every investment newsletter touting the miracles of Anatabloc to encourage investors.]
By buying with a GNC Gold Card, I was able to get Anatabloc at less cost than through the company. I bought 3 bottles.
The company told me it might take more than a month to notice any results, but the product was guaranteed- if it didn’t work for me, I could get a refund. I spoke to a man in R&D who told me to take 2 tablets, 3 x/ day for my weight (165)- taking more would not improve the outcome.
I took the product for 6 weeks- no change in my generalized OA. Also, I have elevated cholesterol (normal CRP) & was fighting taking a statin. There was no change in my labs or weight from before taking the product for 6 weeks.
GNC refused to take my unopened bottle back since they had a 30 day return policy. Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals refused to take it back since I hadn’t purchased through them.
A friend who had been in a very bad car accident 20 years earlier was becoming progressively disabled from the building arthritis & losing function in his arms and neck as well as chronic pain. He bought Anatabloc with great hope after reading the research. He had no improvement either.
We were both very disappointed and poorer.
My husband is a doctor, (ND/acupuncturist). He used Anatabloc for one day, in one day his pain was almost all gone on only 4 pills. He only stopped taking it because of the sucralose and we ordered the unflavored lozenges, The next day when he was off it, he crashed and all his pain came back worse than ever.
Previous injuries that were not bothering him all came back as well and were excruciating. He also felt like he was in a fog while taking Anatabloc and had visual distortions. This could be due in part to the sucralose?
His assessment of Anatabloc is, “this product is it potentially dangerous and could create a worse inflammatory reaction when you come off it causing one to be addicted to it for life.” He also said,”the nicotine levels are unknown and he suspects they are very, very high and could lead to addiction.
I’d like to see a lot of people who have been on Anatabloc for months or a year to come off it and see what happens to them? How bad would the inflammatory reaction be and how long would it last?
As far as the return, the answering service they have is designed to not stop packages. I got the operator to give me the tracking number and I called UPS myself and told them to return it to the warehouse and not deliver it to me. At first the operator lied and said my package would not go out until Monday when in fact it left on Thursday. I got this information out of her because I told her I had used the same warehouse they do for shipping, (this is true.)
wow this is really a new one for me. I have been on it since it came out and on CIGRX before it for 6 months so this goes back to about April /may of 2011 .I started feeling so much better that I would forget to take it but never did the pain come back worse than before I started on it.
Just about a week ago I took my dose in the morning and was gone till late evening, forgot to take any with me. Only one of my aches came back but only enough to let me know I missed my doses twice during the day which would be 4 pills. . So it doesn’t have that effect on me that isn’t the first time but it is the latest that I have missed.
I am stunned at this happening ,especially after only 1 day!! WOW . Good luck to you hope it goes away! I’m not an MD but I did talk to my dr. when I started to take them and he said there was nothing in it to hurt me nor anything about addiction!!
Frank L, I’m feeling a bit DOWN into my 4th mo, I felt better at month 2, my “old” body is feeling too much aches and pains with this advanced OA and Fibro “stuff”…I take 8 loz per day and kinda feeling a saddness that I’m not feeling even better at this advanced time….don’t know what to think.
Joy I’m sorry you are feeling down ,I thought you had said you were doing great on it. Maybe you should call and talk to one of the drs. or your own MD to see what is going on ! Hope to hear you are doing better!
FrankL, I don’t know if I ever said great, but improved and good maybe….I just want MORE good improvement, but this old aging body is so complex with my issues. Thinking about this and my feelings I have to say:
1. The spinal stenosis MESS is so improved, so improved, I could not hardly sit before Abloc and now I can sit for lengths of time.
2. I take less Advil daily and no Tylenol Arthritis med, still take 1/2 Vic as needed…
3. My sleep is greater, last night I probably slept a good 9+ hrs, so that’s a long stretch from my 2Advil at 10:30Pm to 8:30Am this morning, when I took my 2advil for the morning of today.
4. The mouth/gum issue is much improved, inflammation is all gone on this ongoing issue that I’m trying NOT to do major dental work. I just want MORE WOW feelings…whether that will happen, who knows…the older the body and more issues, less chances perhaps…
And, there is the “stock” issue tied to this product, to me, it surely “clouds” the whole product as many are in the stock end of the supp and I would think it COULD distort comments…I’m not in it for the stock…
I take a powerful antioxidant for going on 18 yrs and can’t imagine NOT having it in my life, I have not bought a otc anti histamine in going on 18 yrs….no stock issues involved there….
So, for me, there is a “cloudy” part of all this supp, with the stock and all that has gone on…too many unknowns for me to understand it all….
My antioxidant has been around for 50 some yrs in France and now here in the U.S. for about 20 yrs….so….
Hi, I ran out of Anatabloc and have been off for four weeks just as a test for efficacy. While most of my old aches and pains came back, none were worse than before and I never had any negative side effects while using the product. I’m going to order the unflavored version next time. As far as nicotine levels, it has no nicotine because the anatabine citrate has been synthesized; therefore, production no longer relies on the tobacco plant from which it was originally discovered.
Just ran across this regarding anatabine and nicotine: From The Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
1098.8
Anatabine Significantly Decreases Nicotine Self- Administration
Nancy K. Mello, Peter A. Fivel, Stephen J. Kohut and S. Barak Caine
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Center, McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Belmont, MA
Anatabine is one of the most abundant of the minor tobacco alkaloids but relatively little is known about its interactions with the abuse-related effects of nicotine. The acute effects of anatabine (0.18–3.2 mg/kg, IM) or saline on nicotine- and food-maintained responding were examined in four rhesus monkeys. Nicotine (0.01 mg/kg/inj, base) and banana-flavored food pellets (1g) were available under a second-order schedule (FR 2, VR 16:S). Anatabine or saline injections were administered 15 min before the food self-administration session began. Saline control treatment was in effect after administration of each anatabine dose until monkeys returned to baseline levels of responding. Anatabine dose-dependently reduced nicotine self-administration (P<0.05) with no significant effects on food-maintained responding. There was no evidence of sedation or other adverse side effects. These data suggest that anatabine could be an effective medication for treatment of nicotine addiction. Supported by DA026892 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, NIH.
thanks for that west. Ill be updating my review with this next week. Few thoughts on this study
1. they injected anatabine, very different than how its marketed to people
2. its a monkey study, but Ill admit thats better than mice
We should stick with the science. No nicotine content, period!
I wanted to know if there is any infromation about Anatabloc causing any liver toxicity? I already have an increase in my liver enzymens due to cortisone shots.
Cathy, Im not aware of any but this might be something to call Star Scientific about and ask if they have any published/unpublished research on this issue. I’d also run Anatabloc by your doctor and pharmacist to get their thoughts on this too. Please speak to your doctor/pharmacist before you take anyone’s advice – including mine.
Cathy –
Yes, there is evidence of liver toxicity. I read about that when I was doing my initial research. Please check with your doctor before you start taking Anatabloc.
“liver toxicity” ?? I have seen zero information about anatabine citrate being harmful to the liver. John, please provide a hyperlink to the information you came across during your research. Thanks.
Bernie – I will try to find it and will post, but it may be a few days as I am jammed for the nonce.
On this Liver Toxicity discussion, I searched Anatabine Citrate and Liver Toxicity and found some info, but I could not Open this link:
anatabloc.com/wp…/General_Info_Anatabine_Citrate_201107.pdf
Joy, I couldn’t find it either. Looks like you had the link correct, but the document was moved or removed.
Cathy, what I would do is call the 800 number I posted above and ask for MD or pharmacist on this issue….I take Milk Thistle for liver protection for years now…I’ve not taken much cortisone in my life, but other meds like Tylenol which is allegedly hard on the liver…
yes 1 per day, so 1 bottle lasts me nearly a whole year. I tried two a day a few times but could not sleep and felt like my heart was racing. For some reason my body is very sensitive to substances even eating a small amount of chocolate keeps me up all night. But Just 1 pill a day for me really seems to help.
Joe – You are the best. If you haven’t already, start thinking big – I bet you have a much larger following than you realize. But whatever you do, PLEASE keep up the good work (and the wry humor)! Charlie, AR
Charlie, you’re too kind, thank you very much 🙂
Joe, I have not had any negative side effects. Now that I’m taking 2X6 daily, I’m curious to see if I will still need my 2 daily aspirins. I didn’t need this morning’s one, but will take an evening one just in case.
jay, thanks for letting me know.
I have used Anatabloc for 6 months know and can only take 1 pill a day because of the side effects listed above. Especially Insomnia, and decrease in sex drive. But it does really help with my aches and pains and it has made my gums healthy again.
I am surprised that others have not listed side effects.
Randy. me too.
Rancy, 1 Loz per DAY???!!! That is shocking to me…you are saving lots of bucks for sure…Are you really THIN in weight, or just not much pain?
My sleep is better than ever, and it was pretty good before Abloc, sex drive, not interested anymore…
I’ve had a bit of constipation early on but got that all “worked” out…play on words, there…
I still can’t get over 1 per day…
Joe, Since I called about the dosage, I’ve been taking 2 “A” every 3-4 hours, 12 max a day, and the pain has not increased. It is at same level as when I was taking 3x 3x. For me, that is good compared to the pain without “A”. I didn’t need an aspirin this morning.
Jay, thanks for the update. Glad it the pain has not increased. do let me know if it decreases or goes away.
Joe, Based on a suggestion from Joy, I called Anatabloc regarding the dosage. They told me that the formula may change at different times so that the dosage recommended on the bottle is what a person should take. I will try 2X 6 times a day and see if I can stay relatively pain free. I’ll let you know.
Thanks jay, I hope it helps.
Jay, I don’t know that I’ll ever be pain free, I have enough less pain to stay with anatabloc…we are all so different and what we deal with and I’m much older than most here…with age more pain comes no matter who you are. I don’t have a friend who doesn’t have some type pain, more than others. For me, taking less damaging pain meds is a big one, and sleeping in no pain and waking in no pain is good thing…I’ve told my story here and I also deal with Fibro pain, so one has to decide how much relief they are receiving from abloc to stay with it…. I’ve done my years of bopping all over the now I’m in a big retirement world of leisure and LOVE IT…I do some stuff but at 75 soon I’m content. I ride my recumbent bike at home and do a lot of stretching but not the marathon walks I did years prior…it all has changed for me…since hip replacement mess…
Why haven’t any other companies come out with the formula?
For one thing Star Scientific holds a patent on their product and maybe and perhaps other company(s) will attempt to “copy” it somehow….
Joe, Just a follow up. I waited until 7pm and took 3″A” and now it is 10:30pm my time on the West Coast and my back is in less pain or at least as pain free as it’s been in the last 3 months. Much improved over the pain I had this morning I think I’ll stay with 3X 3X.
Jay, sounds good. Glad you are feeling better!
Jay, why not call the anatabloc MD’s 800-778-2031 ext 4 and ask about taking 3 at a time….I have a friend on Abloc NOW since recent hip replacement surgery and she said she takes 3 at a time for all the nasty PAIN she is dealing with….
I think I took 3 once but continue with 2 usually 4 times per day…I don’t know if I’ll ever be totally out of pain, everyone has their pain issues and reasons…mine MOSTLY from a hip replacement surgery 2.5 yrs ago….horrible trauma from those surgeries…
Joe, Strange experience with “A”. and wonder if others have had it. I’ve been taking 3 “A’ 3x daily but decided to try 2 “A” 5x daily. I’m 230lbs so I know weight has an effect. I took 2 “A” at bedtime and then 2 “A” around 7am.
By 9am, I was feeling back pain like I hadn’t felt in the the 3 months that I’ve been on “A”. At 11am I took 3 “A” and the pain definitely was less. I hate to take 3 “A” when the dosage is clearly 2, but 3X by 3 times seems better that 2X 5 times for me.
Jay, that is odd. try stopping Anatabloc and see if the back pain goes away.
the new dosage on the chart now says 2tab 6 times a day for your weight of 230. try to stay on that and see if there is a difference, I hear they are working on a time release version so it would be easier to take! if you try quitting all together you will find the pain goes back to your normal status before the A
Just wondering if anyone out there has tried Anatabloc specifically for breathing problems? I’ve had breathing difficulties all my life and have never found anything to give me significant relief. I thought I would try Anatabloc so have been on the unflavoured tablets (2 tablets, 3x/day) for about 1.5 months. There may be a slight improvement but nothing significant yet. Just received a new shipment with recommendations to take 2 tabs, 4x daily according to my weight. Will give that a try and hopefully will see some improvements.
My doctor had me on pantoprazole for acid reflux which he said was causing inflammation in my airway. I was on that for several months and noticed no difference. My nasal passages are often blocked as well. Have tried different supplements for this as well as salt water flushes to clear them before bed time. None of this gives me any real relief. Any suggestions of what else I could try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
A friend sent me this today, she got this at a health expo a couple weeks ago: Benefits of Nicotine:
Benefits of Nicotine
Yes, you read that right.
And although you’ll never find me lighting up – that disgusto smell and yellow teeth, no thank you! – I do now have more understanding about exactly why it’s so hard to stop. Turns out nicotine has powerful healing properties.
It all started about 8-9 years ago when I was researching gluten intolerance and found a very obscure study in which nicotine demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties on the gut. What does long term systemic inflammation lead to? Autoimmune compromisation. And isn’t cancer an auto-immune disorder?
The light bulb appeared and proceeded to smash itself on my head as I remembered the final year of my mother’s life.
A smoker since age 12 and then in her 70’s, she had had a lung collapse. Her extended stay in the hospital had forced her to do what her kids had been begging and bullying her to do for years – end her 60+ year cigarette addiction.
What a good thing! all us children said to one another, nodding our heads. Except that almost as soon as my mother arrived home from rehab her lifelong bowel issues (due to what I now believe was undiagnosed gluten intolerance) exploded into an emergency – bleeding from the rectum.
No one, including her doctor, ever thought the two changes – quitting smoking and a bleeding gut – were related.
Know what my mother died of shortly thereafter? A particularly virulent form of lung cancer.
Now, unquestionably all those years of inhaling chemical-laden cigarette smoke did damage to my mother’s lungs. What’s debatable in my mind, though, is which did more damage – the chemicals the cigarette companies added to her tobacco or the smoke itself?
The other question that niggles at the back of my mind is whether or not my mother would have had a few more years of life had she been able to continue to experience the effects of her anti-inflammatory nicotine.
Let me ask you smokers something – ever get the desire to light up just after a meal? That is indicative of having just eaten a meal to which you’re having an allergic reaction (was it gluten-or-pasteurized-dairy-laden, by any chance, oh say, pasta or pizza?). You crave the nicotine to help deal with the inflammatory responses your body is having to the food.
How I Would Quit Smoking…
Step One: Whenever someone comes to me for help with quitting smoking, I always tell them the first step is to:
•Continue smoking, but switch to organic tobacco.
This eliminates all those chemicals (up to 600!) added by the manufacturer to commercial cigarettes. You’ll have to learn how to roll your own, but don’t skip this first step – it’s critical! We have to reduce your body’s overall toxic load in order to reduce your cravings.
Step Two:
•Focus on changing the diet to eliminate any foods you may be having allergic responses to, the top two suspects being pasteurized dairy and gluten. (There are, of course, many more potential allergens, but that is a much longer discussion. Contact me for a consult for more information.)
Reduce the amount of allergic responses you’re having to food and you’ll reduce the need to use nicotine to help heal the damage done by those allergic reactions. The stronger your body, the easier it will be to quit because your cravings will be less.
Step Three:
•Eat Real Foods with an emphasis on lots of calming saturated fats along with moderate amounts of animal protein to support the adrenal glands and reduce overall inflammatory responses. Add probiotics and lacto-fermented foods to soothe the gut.
Step Four:
•Once your health is stabilized, then start the process of cutting down on the number of cigarettes you smoke.
Am I condoning starting to smoke cigarettes if you roll your own and use organic? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NO. NO. NO. DON’T START!
Smoking makes your breath smell revolting, yellows your teeth and is expensive, physically damaging and fundamentally a cover-up (smoke screen, if you will) for what you really need to be doing – getting on a decent diet that matches your metabolic needs and is by design, anti-inflammatory and health-producing.
Personally I’ve never smoked, thank god. But I will admit to feeling embarrassed about my past sneering attitude towards friends and family who had started and were struggling to quit. Just quit! I’d think, It’s obviously killing you.
Well, turns out it’s killing you AND helping you! Ain’t life a… ?!
And according to Dr. Douglass, there is yet another new study confirming nicotine’s anti-inflammatory ability to “help grow new blood vessels,” to any area of the body that needs it.
