Update 12/6/22. At one time, Anatabloc was a SUPER popular anti-inflammation supplement. It was sold online and at GNC and elsewhere. It was touted to help reduce pain, help joints and arthritis pain, and reduce chronic inflammation. Anatabloc was unique. It contained an ingredient not found in any other supplement I've EVER seen in over 20 years of investigation. This unique ingredient also contributed to its own downfall. In this unbiased, updated review, I reveal everything you need to know about Anatabloc, from its rise – and fall – to the research and proof and the company which made it. I'll also shed light on other anatabloc supplements too.
What Is Anatabloc
Before we talk about Anatabloc (sometimes misspelled Anatablock), I need to tell you about Anatabine (also called anatabine citrate). Anatabine is the active ingredient in Anatabloc. Anatabine is a chemical found in
- eggplants
- potatoes
- green tomatoes
as well as tobacco and tobacco smoke (remember this).
Chemically, anatabine “looks” like nicotine. Because of this, it was also used some anti-smoking supplements. Anatabine has a longer half life than nicotine, so it stays in the body longer. That's why it was thought it might help people quit smoking.
How Does Anatabloc Work?
Here is the way Anatabloc was supposed to reduce chronic inflammation:
1. Anatabine enters the cells of the body where it…
2. Deactivates a protein called NFkB.
3. When NFkB is deactivated, it can't enter the nucleus of the cell (the brain center of the cell) to cause excessive cellular inflammation.
Inflammation is thought to play a role in MANY diseases, such as:
and many others.
So, if Anabloc worked, it might have disease-modifying benefits. If you read the comments below, you will see some people have said some pretty amazing things too.
Anatabloc Ingredients
Anatabloc contains these ingredients
Anatabine | 1 mg |
Vitamin A | 500 IU |
Vitamin D3 | 40 IU |
This review will focus only on Anatabine because this is “secret sauce” in Anatabloc.
Other Ingredients
These other ingredients are also found in this supplement: Mannitol, natural and artificial mint flavors, sucralose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide (color), natural glaze, methylparaben, propylparaben, triethyl citrate, citric acid, BHT, mono and diglycerides, and polysorbate 80
These ingredients played no role in the results or benefits of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Research
When this review was originally created, the proof for Anatabloc was mostly on lab animals. There is now human proof. This review will focus only on human research. Much of the research is on Anatabine, which is an active ingredient in Anatabloc. Still, proof for anatabine is proof for Antabloc.
Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals (more on them below) supports and plays a role in much of the research.
Studies On Anatabloc
In one report, researchers in the US gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 146 people with Hashimoto's disease – the most common form of hypothyroidism. People were given 9-24 mg of anatabine in the form of lozenges. Those taking Anatabloc saw a significant reduction in thyroid autoantibodies.
Some people saw over a 20% decrease in thyroid autoantibodies. This means better working thyroid glands.
One small study (10 people) noted a face cream containing anatabine improved skin appearance, reducing redness and blotchy skin appearance. This does make some sense. Niacin, which looks a little bit like anatabine has been used in skin creams for years.
Niacin is also VERY popular in the anti-aging world. See the Niagen review for more on this.
Anatabine cigarettes have been shown to reduce nicotine levels in smokers significantly. This study reflects the interest in using anatabine to help people quit smoking.
Because inflammation follows exercise, researchers were interested in seeing if anatabine would reduce inflammation after people worked out. In this study, 18 men were given either a placebo or 6-12 mg of anatabine per day for 10 days. They also performed an intense exercise program.
Unfortunately, this noted anatabine did not reduce pain, or swelling or help muscle strength. This is noteworthy, given TV commercials featuring pro golfers John Isner and Fred Couples.
In another exercise study, researchers gave Anatabloc or a placebo to 17 men. The dosage of Anatabloc used was 6-12 mg. While these researchers saw that Anatabloc did not reduce exercise-induced muscle damage, it did appear to reduce markers of inflammation such as C reactive protein (CRP). That is interesting.
Preliminary research suggests anatabine activates NFR2, a substance that raises naturally produced antioxidant defenses such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). This is at the heart of some proposed anti-aging supplements, such as Protandim and PB125.
There are also several lab animals and test-tube studies involving Anatabloc/anatabine. I won't cover them here because we are people and not mice, rats or test tubes.
Summary Of Anatabloc Research
Here is a summary of the Anatabloc human research:
- Anatabine reduced thyroid antibodies in people with hypothyroidism
- Anatabine lowers nicotine levels in smokers
- Anatibine did not reduce muscle damage, pain, or swelling but may lower CPR levels
Anatabloc Questions
Let's now answer some common questions people have asked me about this supplement.
Can Anatabloc help muscle soreness?
Muscle soreness after exercise (DOMS) is very common. Currently, the proof seems to show Anatabloc doesn't reduce muscle soreness, swelling or muscle damage. It may reduce a blood test marker of inflammation called CRP. I think we need more exercise research.
Can Anatabloc Help Concussions?
There is brain inflammation when someone gets a concussion. But there is no proof that taking Anatabloc:
- reduces the risk of getting a concussion
- improves recovery time after getting a concussion
- reduces brain damage from concussions
I cannot find any research involving anatabine and concussions.
In December 2013, the FDA sent a warning letter to Star Scientific – makers of Anatabloc – telling them to remove references on their websites which gave people the impression the supplement might help concussions and other forms of traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
For more on concussions and TBI see these reviews:
Can Anatabloc Help Multiple Sclerosis?
The proof that Anatabloc can help MS is in its infancy. There is some mouse evidence it may help, but no human studies have been conducted yet.
What About Anataboc and Weight Loss?
Websites might discuss how anatabine/Anatabloc can help people lose weight or reduce weight gain, which sometimes happens when people quit smoking. But there is no good proof for this. No study has looked at reducing gaining weight after quitting smoking.
What is CigRx?
This is the anti-smoking product Star Scientific was developing before it began researching anatabine for arthritis pain and other health problems. CigRx contains anatabine too.
Anatabloc Dosage
The general recommendation is to take 2 lozenges per day. Do not use more than 6 lozenges per day. Another dosage recommendations= take your body weight into consideration. Here the Anatabloc dosages would be:
- 100-120 lbs: 2 lozenges 3x per day
- 121-170lbs: 2 lozenges 4x per day
- 171-220lbs: 2 lozenges 5x per day
- over 220lbs: 2 lozenges 6x per day
I've never seen this dosage regimen used in human studies. So, I'm not sure how accurate this is.
Who Makes Anatabloc?
Anatabloc is a product of a company called Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals. Another name for this company is Star Scientific. Star Scientific was the original name of the company. When the research changed directions from looking at Anatabine as a cure for smoking to helping arthritis pain, the company changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals.
The phone number for the company was 800-778-2031. The company website was Anatabloc.com (the website no longer works). When this review was originally created, the Better Business Bureau listed the company address as 4470 Cox Rd Ste 110, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
There is also a connection to another company called the RosKamp Institute, located in Florida. Some of the research on Anatabloc has been conducted by this company too.
The company has since filed for bankruptcy and is no longer making Anatabloc supplements.
Should I Invest In Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals?
Star Scientific formally changed its name to Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals in 2014. Its stock symbol is RCPI. It's a publicly traded company. Regardless of what you invest in, do your homework.
Be careful with “gurus” who talk stocks up on websites, as you don't always know who you are dealing with. Sometimes unscrupulous people say things about a company to create interest so they can pump the stock price up so they can dump it for a profit. This trick is sometimes called “pump and dump.” Unless you’re an investing pro (think Warren Buffett), I recommend you talk to a financial advisor before risking any money.
Anatabloc And The FDA
Many people think the FDA does not regulate supplements. Anatabloc is proof it does. Almost from the start, the FDA claimed anatabine contained a new dietary ingredient (NDI). A new dietary ingredient is any substance that was not sold as a supplement before 1994.
Products containing new dietary ingredients need to prove to the FDA they are safe. There is also the issue that anatabine is found in tobacco. Tobacco cannot be called a dietary supplement. I think this may also have played a role in the demise of Anatabloc.
Rock Creek pharmaceuticals state that because anatabine is found in things like peppers and eggplants, it is not new and can be sold as a supplement. In the end, the FDA won, and Rock Creek stopped making Anatabloc.
Calls To Bring Back The Sale Of Anatabloc
Problems with the FDA have not stopped people from hoping for the return of Anatabloc.
This has not stopped people who loved Anatabloc from continuing to hold out hope. Former customers have launched a petition at Change.org to petition the FDA to reverse their decision and let Anatabloc be sold again.
They created the website BringBackAnatabloc.org where you can share your testimony of how the supplement helped you, sign an FDA petition to bring Anatabloc back, and read news about the supplement.
How To Buy Anatabloc: Can You Still Purchase It?
While this supplement was once VERY popular and sold at GNC and other stores, it is no longer permitted to be sold in the US. The FDA forced Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals to stop the production of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Supplements
While Anatabloc is no longer able to be purchased in the US, I did notice other companies selling supplements said to contain anatabine.
One such company is HydraPharm (PredatorNutrition.com). They sell a supplement literally called “Anatablok” which they say contains “pure anatabine.” Predator Nutrition is not based in the US. I am not sure if they are allowed to ship their Anatablok supplement to the US.
The supplement is marked as an anti-inflammatory nootropic (brain enhancer) used to support memory and attention.
The Va Governor Controversy
As if things could not get worse, Rock Creek Pharm found itself at the center of a very public controversy involving the former Virginia governor, Robert McDonnell, and his wife. It's alleged Rock Creek gave $165,000 in gifts to the former Va governor and his wife in exchange for helping Rock Creek's development of Anatabloc.
Anatabloc Side Effects
Anatabloc is probably safe for healthy people, at least for short-term use. Human research shows no significant negative side effects. Mild to moderate side effects reported have included:
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Tingling feelings
- Insomnia
In the comments section below, one person reported feelings of depression. This has not been observed in clinical studies.
Does Anatabloc Work?
Despite the problems with the FDA, several people swore Anatabloc worked. I never experimented with it when it was being sold and the only person I knew who did try it told me it did not reduce his pain. Pain is complicated and its possible others may have had better results.
Unfortunately, Anatabolc supplements are no longer available in the US. While, in the past, I have been rather hard on this supplement and Rock Creek Pharmaceuticals, I was sad it was taken off the market. I am happy to see some human research on anatabine, look forward to more and hope one day to see it sold once again.
Joe..seems to me half the comments on here are from Antabloc employees and half are from the competition (whomever that might be). The stuff has no researched based evidence to say it is anything more than a money waste.
Chris, I have no proof that the pro-anatabloc comments are from anatabloc employees, but there are investors in anatabloc stock who have commented here. I’ll agree that the research is not where I’d like it to be yet.
Chris what leads you to say they are half employees and half competition ? what about all the elders on retirement!!
Chris, you wrote, “The stuff has no researched based evidence to say it is anything more than a money waste.”
Actually, there is quite a lot of “research based evidence” regarding Anatabloc and the evidence is growing. This is a now a long thread, so you may have missed some information: Four peer-reviewed research articles have been published already and there are more to come.
A 3-month, double-blind clinical trial for 146 humans suffering from thyroiditis has been completed. The peer review of the thyroid study data is in process, but the study authors publicly stated in the preliminary report that anatabine citrate delivered “a clear and statistically significant difference in the treated group as compared to the placebo group.”
Researchers rarely use the phrase “statistically significant” carelessly because their reputation is at stake. Those who post positive comments here on Anatabloc are as anxious as anyone else for all of the peer-reviewed study data to be published. Good luck with your heath.
John, I covered all of the published anatabloc research in my review and add to it as more research becomes available.
Questions: My daughter who is taking Anatabloc now close to 4 weeks says she has this white crud around her side of mouth…could this be inflammation being killed off…that is what I thought…
We are both experiencing constipation issues and working on that issue…
I can see where crohns and UC people can benefit.
Any thoughts from longterm users….otherwise we are both getting
pain relief in many areas of our body.
I just purchased anatabloc two days ago at a local gnc. I am an avid runner and compete in marathons regularly. I have had a major problem with Achilles tendinitis since college(1989). I have been averaging 70-100 miles a week getting ready for the Cleveland marathon in may. I re-aggravated the tendon in my right leg and had been limping as i walked and was in more pain than normal as I ran. My tendon was swelled up twice the size as my other leg.
I took six pills spaced out the first day and that night I ran 16 miles including 20/400m intervals at 10 mph. The following morning (6 hrs later) I ran 15 miles as a recovery run. I had little pain at all and actually feel better than I did before running a combined 31 miles! Look I know scientific evidence is a must but I am living proof! I am a believer!
Since my first report (earlier in this stream) where I was concerned that “one dosage fits all” did not make sense, I was pleased when Star offered a revision on dosage based on weight (which makes all the sense in the world). Before someone quipps that “they just want to sell more.” I’m happy to report that my monthly supply was increased by 50% with no increase in cost.
My personal results from 10 pills a day has been terrific. I did note that it seems to work best for me when I am also able to reduce my weight a bit (cut down on fried foods!) which is probably a good thing anyway. My weight, which was always an issue for me since the diabetes went from 222 to 192. To be fair this did not happen purely as a result of Anatabloc, but prior to its use I could not ever lose more than 5 pounds.
My 10 year chronic sinus issues have totally ceased.
I had reported that slight numbness in the feet that was progressing with my Type 2 diabetes was improving. I can now say it is almost totally gone and sensitivity is back to normal. That indicates a better blood circulation in the lower part of the body which was originally caused by inflammation.
I have just retired at 66 and look forward to being able to return to the physical activities I have been limited in recent years.
From what I can tell, Anatabloc was an accidental discovery. I am very pleased that Star has moved away from their previous business, as noble as it was, to find less toxic tobacco products. Health supplements have a hard time living in the same world with tobacco. I think if they are not bulldosed by big pharma self interests, we will continue to be surprised by how effective their anti-flamatory products are.
Dave
Dave, I wonder if your weight changed for the better when you cut back on fried foods. If so, this might be why your feet dont feel as numb because of your type II diabetes. As I understand it, the numbness is more of a nerve issue than a blood circulation issue. Regardless glad its helping you. Since you mentioned you had type II diabetes, Id also suggest you read this
http://www.joe-cannon.com/can-type-ii-diabetes-be-cured/
Has anyone had any problems with their throat randomly hurting or having a hard time swallowing after taking this? Ive had allergic reactions so I know its not that I read somewhere that I could be having a reaction to the amount of mint in it but I love peppermint and eat it regularly so I do not believe that is the case. Thanks.
Tiffan y, no throat problems here…I didn’t like the artificial sweetener in the trial product, but the regular monthly product is unflavored which I’m fine with. I’m dissolving one as I type.
Twenty years of arthritic pain was controlled by anti-inflammatory prescription drugs (diclofenac) until ulcers finally destroyed my stomach. Nine days in the hospital and a good surgeon got me back on my feet. Now my doctor tells me not to take any more anti-inflammatory drugs. It’s been 18 months since the surgery and I’ve been relying on Tramadol and Tylenol to let me remain active. I’m 78 years old and only live to play golf (and to keep my dog company) so sitting around in a rocker with a lap robe is not on my bucket list.
Saw the ads on TV and found your web site while searching for info on Anatabloc. I take quite a few supplements anyway to trying one more is not a big deal to me. Bought a 300 pill bottle at GNC and have been taking the prescribed dosage for my weight (10 per day) for about 10 days now. Can’t say I’ve noticed any improvement yet but I didn’t expect much in such a short time. I’ll finish the bottle and then decide whether it works for me.
My only concern so far is that my tongue has been very sore for the past week. Feels like I ate something very hot. Anybody else have that experience? I’ve never smoked and I’m wondering if my system is reacting to something in Anatabine. Isn’t it a tobacco bi-product?
I can find many flaky things about Star Scientific and Anatabloc if I want to be cynical. A couple of quickies;
(1) their web site says “two addition trials will get underway by year end”. Use a web history machine (like Wayback) and you’ll see they said the same thing last year. I wonder what year-end they had in mind.
Or (2) I find it strange that a company with the word “scientific” in their name would need to adjust their dosage instructions (basically increasing them) after the product was on the market for over a year.
And (3) Star Scientific just produced their 2012 financial report: Sales = $6.2 mil, Total Expenses = $27.2 mil, R&D = $4.6 mil, Marketing = $6.2 mil, Gen and Admin = $16.2 (down from $29.3 mil in 2011, due to changes in stock based compensation). A change of $13 mil in stock based compensation on a company with only $ 6 mil in sales? What’s that all about?
But that silliness aside, I’ll keep using Anatabloc and report back my results in another two weeks.
RE: “Isn’t it a tobacco bi-product?”
Ken,
Anatabine is a minor alkaloid found in plants in the Solanaceae family, (tobacco, eggplant, peppers and tomato). Anatabloc is 100% synthesized anatabine citrate, so no tobacco is used in the manufacture of Anatabloc. As for the “A change of $13 mil in stock based compensation on a company with only $ 6 mil in sales?” …well, the company once had revenues of $100 million + but was in a litigation death match versus RJ Reynolds for over ten years. Good luck with your health and glad to know that Anatabloc is helping you.
John,
Star’s financial statements show sales less than $1 mil from 2008 through 2012. When did that $100 mil year happen? Also, the litigation was a suit brought by Star against Reynolds for patent infringement. Drove up their stock until Star lost that suit. Then it dropped by 40% and remains at that level. That was in August 2011.
Ken,
STSI had a $100 million Star-cure licensing agreement with Brown&Williamson in 1999. RJR bought B&W and stiffed STSI and the rest is a long sordid tale. Best of luck to you.
Ken, a pharma anti inflammatory put me in the ER back in the 80’s with a stomach ulcer, so I have steered clear of them since, I’m 74. I have OA, Fibro Stuff and complications from a hip replacement, hence LOTS of inflammation..so Anatabloc has been a bit of a miracle to date, been on it 2+ months and will certainly continue…
The tongue burning could be inflammation being attacked by the Anatabloc..another person commented on how his gums hurt when he first started and says it was the inflammation…that person is on Abloc over 8 months now… So give it some TIME….
Clinical (animal trials) Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis:
http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/prnewswire/press_releases/Virginia/2013/03/19/PH79245
Thinking about this animal trial business, how the H do products get out there without first animal trials? When I see labels stating No Animals Used In Testing…. how do these people test their products for the market? Makes me wonder on that one…
Joy, when I see “no animal testing” on a product label, I believe its because they contain ingredients that have already been tested on animals by others. So while that company didn’t do animal testing, somebody else did.
Great evidence based stuff, Keep it up!
Wow, glad I found this site, I am a heavy equipment operator.(35 years) and have had my fill of lower back pain. Lots of chiropractic work, massage has been my relief. I do not take any meds for the pain. I do swim and exercise to help deal with it getting worse.
So one day im watching TV and see Freddy Couples doing the Anatabloc commercial. I LOVE GOLF, so if Freddy is doing it Ill try. I called the 800 # and got my free sample. Thats 5 days ago. Im into my fourth day taking 2 pills every 8 hrs. So its Tuesday morning 3/19/2013. I woke up, its 4 am, and I can not fill any low back pain at all. And I played golf yesterday.
I would normally be out of commission today. So I got my laptop to see whats the heck is going on. There must be other people having the same results. So here I am reading this blog. Not sure if I will stay on it. Might want to wait and see if there is any bad side effects. The only thing I take is a high blood Pressure med. Tho I am tempted to stay on it. Thanks JIM
My daughter’s update. She is on Anatabloc about 3 weeks. Her issue is collapsed tendons in foot and she does NOT want to do the major surgery, so she is getting pain relief there and she runs puffy, so I think it could be a low grade chronic inflammation…so she’s feeling relief….
But, she has gotten the constipation issue, which I felt at the 4 week time..I told her more magnesium thru the day, hot water with lemon squeeze close to bed and a product I use AloeLax….
Thinking about the time I tried LDN, which NEVER really worked and I had to stoop at 6 months, I got the worst case of constipation EVER in my life…so worked on that issue…
Mag Calm is another great product used in HOT water before bed…I’m going to buy some Slippery Elm to help this along too.
I’m enjoying less PAIN and fewer advil and NO Tylenol…
NOTHING that works seems to be without some side effect….I go to other boards and read some people’s issues and all their side effects for the drugs they take for their RA and Lyme and other issues…Oh Brother….a vicious cycle…
Just wanted to share my experience with Anatabloc. Started taking it in late December and my back pain was gone after ~3 weeks. Kept taking it and started having episodes where I would wake up suddenly after laying down and was not able to catch my breath for a few seconds.
About 2 weeks ago I called Star Scientific as I was becoming concerned about the BHT and polysorbate 80 in the Anatabloc as it is not good. The doctor I spoke to was aware of these ingredients and their questionable safety record and told me the product was originally intended for smokers and they “aren’t the healthiest people anyway”.
I could not believe someone would say this since it projects a company who does not care about their customers. Therefore, I stopped taking the product about 10 days ago. That’s when my life went to hell.
I had another very serious episode where I blanked out after sex and again woke up not being able to catch my breath and my heart was acting funny. Called my holistic doctor, who was not aware I was using the Anatabloc, and he sent to the ER. EKG, chest x-ray and cardio stress test were OK.
Next day, went back to work and started having stroke symptoms and was taken to different ER that specializes in strokes. Spent two days in hospital having tests that turned up nothing. Came home and had massive panic attack where I didn’t even know where I was. Took my wife 2 hours to calm me down before I knew where I was.
Next day I went to see my holistic doctor. When he asked if I had been using anything, I told him about the Anatabloc. He researched how Anatabloc is eliminated from your system and found out it is eliminated via the liver. However, he also was aware I have Gilbert’s syndrome. Because of this, my system can’t properly eliminate the Anatabloc so it’s been building up in my system and has basically poisoned me causing all kinds of neurological symptoms.
He now has me on a detox regiment but he says it will take time to get it out of my liver and system. I would highly advise not using Anatabloc if you have any liver issues. I wouldn’t wish what I’m going through on anyone!
Greg, thanks for sharing your problems with Anatabloc. I do hope you continue to get better. Do keep me posted on how you are progressing.
Greg, sorry to hear your issues…I’m not at all familiar with Gilberts Syn, and my liver work on labs is always good and I’ve been taking Milk Thistle for yrs for liver protection…so I’m not going to panic on this one…Hope you can get a good detox. I also take other protection for stomach issues from all the pain meds I’ve been taking for the MESSY pain…..
Greg sorry to hear about your problems, when I started taking this product I showed it to my MD. to see if it would be a problem with any issues I have . He checked the ingredients and said he had no issues with me taking it. It might have been a good idea since you do have some health issues to check with your MD or in your case your holistic dr. could have saved you a lot of problems. Be aware before you try the next new product. I have no complaints at all with this product it has worked above and beyond what I expected but we all have different medical issues!
Greg, you got me a little concerned ,so like my usual self I did some reading and found the items you are talking about being so bad on the ingredients label of some of the new brand of the little stick chewing gums, so please be aware with your condition! it states on the gum label to maintain freshness!! I have an anxiety issue and I can make my-self think I am sick with this or that but this relieves my anxiety a little ! Please be aware with your condition!!
Frank. I assume your referring to the BHT. Yes it is a preservative used since the late 40’s; but it is banned in just about every country except the US. It has no place being in a “natural” product designed for long term use. And even worse, Star Scientific knows about it but apparently doesn’t care about removing it or the polysorbate 80 which also has a lot of negative side effects. And rest assured, I won’t be trying anything new without running it by my holistic doctor 1st.
Greg that is the one,BHT, Just didn’t want you chewing the gum and continue to have problems, I was shocked after reading your article and then seeing that it was in gum and checking my gum labels and finding it! I chew a lot of gum. I guess we all have different effects.
I do hope you get better in time and learned a lesson about checking ahead of taking something you don’t know about .As for the Co. not caring I have not experienced that at all nor have the few folks that I have told about the product and made calls to them with questions experienced this!
As for the BHT being banned in other countries it is a wonder the FDA hasn’t stepped in to do the same!!! I do hope you continue to get better with your problem, keep us informed!
While I don’t like a lot of the “fillers” in Anatabloc and for sure was upset with the artificial sweetener in the trial sample, but I lived thru it…and 2 friends are trying trials and HOPE they are OK with the product and it helps them….
I don’t CHEW GUM, there are so many chemicals in so many gums, it’s unbelievable….if I were to chew gum, it would be regular sweet old time gum if any is still available….aspertame is one and it’s toxic….
I don’t believe Star is a great “holistic” company but the Anatabloc is giving me help in getting off pain meds and getting rid of fibro and spinal burning pain…
The cream is so high priced, plus a lot of chemicals in that too, like an aluminum……… I work on avoiding so many toxic chemicals…
WOW Drops are a great way to get rid of the chewing gum addiction….
Joy, chewing gum isn’t an addiction for me,I never chew gum at home, don’t even think aboutit!! Get me in a car and driving, chewing gum keeps me alert,so when I’m driving and a little tired, there is gum in my mouth and it is a fresh stick about every half hour, bad habit I suppose but better than having an accident!!
GREAT EVIDENCE BASED STUFF! kEEP IT UP!
Am looking for peer review not anectdotal material. Thanx
d2no,
FYI, peer reviewed research can include case studies (aka anecdotal material).
Anonymous, yes case studies are anecdotal material, as are testimonials. A difference is that a case study does have some level of scrutiny by medical professionals prior to submitting the case study for publication.
Just got my trial in mail yesterday. Have been taking intermittent throughout day. Am wondering if should be taking more at once vs say 10 spaced out through the day. Any thoughts on dosage frequency having effect. Not expecting any immediate changes. But will hope for many.
Anonymous, if you look through the comments there are dosing amounts based on body weight.
There is a posting on dose for weight here above somewhere…I weigh about 165 and usually take 6-7 per day…2 first thing in AM, 1 each spread thru the day, and 2 as I hit the pillow.. I felt a shift at day 2 and a major shift at day 5, that is WHY I continued….it’s not a pain med, but an inflammation modulator and “killer” as I call it…am more and more amazed, I’m getting some of my life back, the last couple yrs have been sheer H**L since hip replacement on top of OA and FM and AGE….
My friends are amazed as I’m saying YES to go out when they mention dinner…I’ve been a hermit to this pain. jm
I believe there will be more and more personal accounts shared here with or without me. I see it as a great and necessary discussion between believers and skeptics, as it should be. I find it a bit comical that I have become a topic when it is the product that brings us all here.
Joe does a pretty good job of keeping the investment angle out of this discussion. Since a few guys have decided that personal attacks on me are warranted and they have made it passed Joe’s “cutting room”, I’m hoping that he will allow me a bit of latitude here.
First and foremost, I hope that attacks on me do not dissuade anyone who might benefit from Anatabloc from trying it. The benefit I derive from sharing here and elsewhere is when I see their positive comments and sense their relief.
Yeah, I made a small fortune on options trading about 2 years ago when STSI had a run up over $5.00. My investment was targeting a “safer” tobacco patent and litigation. That was near the time when they started talking about anatabine. I’m not dumb enough to think I could buy shares and then go on the Internet and get the share price up. That is a loosing game. I know it’s a theory out there but no serious investor I know would risk such folly.
Do I think you should buy shares? I could see where you might want to do so once you try Anatabloc, but no. It is still way to speculative for most folks. I say wait. Wait for the publication of human studies and/or the approval of the “use” patent; should those events come to pass.
Goodbye Joe. It was fun up til today. Live long and prosper – all.
Mike thanks and If I can interject a bit, I think we can discuss the science of anatabloc without bringing up the stock. Also I know people are passionate about this topic but moving forward any attacks, from either side, will be left on my cutting room floor, as mike calls it.
Lots, I don’t like about our govt, guess I should send back my SS check and opt out of medicare….
What’s PERFECT…death I think.
John, how many own stock in Merck or Phizer et al, I don’t believe anyone is a “cheat” here…so I say your words are not necessary, in the meantime, glad to hear you are getting RELIEF…ummmmmm
Lol, yes, I am a bit schizophrenic on this subject. I really don’t like what I have found out thus far about the company, its management or its lack of disclosure. But I am positively gleeful about the results of Anatabloc on the host of symptoms I carry around daily….thus far. But for all I know the progress is simply a placebo effect, we’ll keep at it and see. I’m not complaining, for sure.
Joe, I can only say I’m happy with my results, how long do we have to wait before it’s rolled out…years? I’m certainly not a scientist but I believe these people have something really special in this product…and didn’t roll it out overnight…
Joy, I glad its helping you and I hope its doing so without any side effects. Based on the research I linked to in my review, I feel they did roll it out without adequate evidence. Maybe future research will prove otherwise but for now we will just have to agree to disagree on this.
Joe, me too, hope no side effects, I was burned back in the 80’s with a pharma anti inflammatory that put me in the ER, so I steer clear as much as possible…a food based supp feels “right” to me…I buy other food based supps in my calcium and multi vitamin…and on grape seed extract going on 18 yrs, that is food based,,,seeds from the grapes, which are genetically modified in our world…one can’t buy a grape in it’s natural state….joy
The Fibro Issue:
has been given so many names and causes over the yrs.
Many many yrs ago this Fibro stuff was called rheumatism…then along the way it was given the name Fibroitis…and then some 10-15yrs ago Fibromyalgia was the name given to it all….
One rheumy I have seen, an older woman, called it fibroitis, my younger rheumy calls it Fibromyalgia…so depending on the age of docs, the name can be different.
In my grandmothers and mother’s day it was called rheumatism…
So what I’m getting to, all the rheumatic pain down the side of my arms and upper back is about gone since Anatabloc…
Rheumatic diseases (rheumatism) are painful conditions usually caused by inflammation, swelling, and pain in the joints or muscles.
So even though many here say it’s not inflammation, I have to disagree…and believe a lot is inflammation re: fibro stuff…
I still have pain and STIFFNESS in knee joints and lower back which are arthritic but is reducing…..spinal stenosis pain/burning is about gone..
I’m on Anatabloc just over 2 months….
Joe,
First, thank you for providing a superb website dedicated to an unbiased, evidence-based, scientific-centric analysis and evaluation of the murky, Wild Wild West world of supplements.
I note that there are many pro-Anatabloc comments on here from Mike L. . I’m betting, from similar pro-Anatabloc “rah rah” comments and praise for this product on the Anatabloc Facebook page and other Internet forums that Mike L. is (name deleted), who has stated on another forum, although not this one, that he is a shareholder in the company that makes Antabloc, as is another commenter on this page, Alan, who has does admit on here that he is.
Regardless of what their (and others they know) personal stories are concerning their “success” with the product, these are but anecdotes, personal testimonies and must be read with appropriate caution because of their financial investment in this company.
You, Joe, on the other hand have been proven to be a man of your word and hold no stock, nor are you in the employ of any of the companies whose supplements you review.
Unless and until there are solid, gold-standard, double-blind placebo studies on humans that result in convincing clinical proof that Anatabloc should be considered to possess all/some of the healing powers its advocates believe in and state as fact, all statements such as those from Mike, Alan, Joy etc. et al must be regarded as their narratives, their personal stories, and nothing more.
To deem them anything other than this does not insult or condemn them or their stories. It simply states that their stories do not amount to anything resembling “good science.”
Keep up your honorable, valuable work on the Internet, a landscape riddled with unethical opportunists and con men more than willing to take advantage of those living with chronic pain, and the anxiety, worries and depression that accompany such pain.
Carleton, thanks I appreciate your kind words. True there are many pro-anatabloc comments here and while this is encouraging to some, it still will take human trials, as you said, before we really know what is going on.
Joe –
I just want to second Carelton’s sentiment about people who post on these forums with an agenda which is not related to the efficacy of the product. These people are, at their core, cheats. They are cheating the rest of us who are looking for information, whether anecdotal or professional, which accurately reflects the commentator’s experience.
If someone wants to promote the company because he believes in the product and owns stock in the company, that’s fine, just state in the first line that he owns stock, and the rest of us can evaluate his comments accordingly. The same goes for someone who is short the stock and has negative things to say.
When we discover that someone is touting the product under false pretenses, as appears to be the case with Mike L., then I respectfully request that you delete all his comments. We all look at a number of forums in our quest for information, and I think we are intelligent enough to “smell a rat”. Let’s use our communal knowledge to get rid of these guys.
Having said that, I am now five days on Anatabloc. My energy level is dialed up, my neck spondylosis stiffness is almost gone, my stiff hip is no longer stiff, the slight tear in my rotator cuff is not bothering me, and the damaged tendons in my foot are about half as sore and swollen as they were. Early days yet, but I am quite astonished at the change in such a short time, we’ll see if it continues.
John, rest assured I read all comments and moderate those that I feel don’t add to the conversation.
We rah rah supplement people are many out there, NOT ENOUGH in my mind, too many in that pharma world of no healing, I’ve been in the rah rah supp world for over 20 yrs and avoid the pharma as much as possible…I don’t own any stock in the company…..looked at it, but don’t have money to play the markets…2 sides to all stories and many bash supps and that is there agenda…they are missing a lot of healing…many are deficient in so much like minerals for one big one…enough said. joy
Joe and others, I have been taking 2 anat 3 times daily for 2 months. Because I’m over 225lbs in good health I upped it to 2 anat 4 times daily because of good advice on this post. I’m sad to report that I don’t see any change.
I still need 2 aspirins a day to make it without back spasms. I still will continue Anatabloc, in fact will try 3 anat 3 times daily to see if that helps. I really appreciate all the comments on this board and I’m only one voice. I will continue to give feedback.
Jay, thank o you for writing and I do hope your new dosage helps. do keep me posted as I really am curious.
the new recommended dosage for your weight is 2tabs 6times a day ,maybe that is part of the no signs!! 221lbs.and over!

I am a long time user of Anatabloc and a strong advocate. My wife has leg spasms and Anatabloc hasn’t help, that we could tell, with her leg spasms. But, it is my non-Dr. view, that various muscle spasms are more directly nerve related and less a direct chronic inflammation issue, although, they may be connected and over time you could see an improvement in your back spasms. Chronic inflammation being the
root cause of many of our health afflictions.
But while you’re taking Anatabloc, if I could suggest, pay attention to these areas:
1.) Your next blood test, ask the Dr. to include a C-RP test.
2.) Compare your current blood test results to your blood test results
before you started taking Anatabloc. Pay particular attention to your
Cholesterol numbers.
3.) Pay attention to your gums and teeth. See if you don’t see a major
improvement in the tightness of your teeth and health of your gums.
4.) Pay attention to your fingernails and toenails. See if you don’t see
a dramatic improvement in the health of your nails.
5.) If you have any seasonal allergies or sinus problems, see if you
don’t see a dramatic improvement in your allergies and or sinuses.
6.) Ask your self if you see an improvement in your overall general
sense of well being both physically and mentally.
7.) Do you sleep better at night with fewer trips to the bathroom during
the night, since taking Anatabloc?
8.) Watch your BP. Do you see any general improvement?
The above issues have all improved for me quite dramatically. That is why I am such a strong advocate of Anatabloc.
Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience with Anatabloc.
Allan, good comments…Anatabloc doesn’t Re-Do the “old” body but the subtle changes are happening…I suggested to Jay a little bodywork maybe and making sure enough magnesium is being taken, SO MANY are magnesium deficient, look it up, it’s online with mag deficiency….I do a lot of other work and will never stop that, but Anatabloc has certainly made a lot of difference in the little over 2 months on it…jm
Parkinson review on the NAH Anatabloc link…just found it now and sent it on to my cousin who’s husband deals with PD. It’s a pretty positive testimony.
Just google: NAH Anatabloc and it’s Mary’s info on that site.
