Have you heard of ViSalus or the Body by Vi Challenge? If you’re like me, odds are several people have asked you about the science behind ViSalus or asked you if you wanted to try their products. Fortunately for me, a friend gave me some samples so I could check it out for myself, so let me now review ViSalus and pay particular attention to its Body By Vi Shape weight loss shake because which seems to be one of their flagship products. I've written a separate review on Vi Slim Metabo Awake so check that out if your looking for information specific to that product.
What is ViSalus?
ViSalus, the company is actually part of a larger company called Blyth located in Greenwich CT. Blyth Inc is actually a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. Its stock symbol is BTH. Blyth Inc. is involved in marketing a variety of products. See the Blyth website for more information on their products.
In America, Blyth is located at One East Weaver Street Greenwich, CT. Their phone number is : 203-661-1926
I mention this because it appears that ViSalus itself will be spun off as a publicly traded company in the near future. As of August 16 2012 ViSalus has started the paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
Visalus Supplements
There are several ViSalus supplements that range from weight loss to “neuro support”. These supplements are usually sold in “kits”. Purchasing any kit also grants people access to the Body By Vi online support website.
These are the kits sold by Visalus.
1. Body by Vi Balance Kit. This is kind of a starter kit and has a 30 day supply of Vi Shape weight loss shake powder. This is designed for people who use 1 shake a day. Here is the Balance kit on Amazon.
2. Body by Vi Shape Kit. This kit has 60 servings of the Vi Shape shake powder and is designed to last 1 month (2 shakes per day). Here is the Shape Kit on Amazon.
3. Body by Vi Core Kit. This kit was a little ambiguous when I looked at it on the Visalus website. They say the Core kit has “a patented anti-aging and energy formula, balanced nutrition, and hydration and energy without the jitters”. Is that 4 different products or 5? It was hard to figure out how many products are in the Body by Vi Core Kit. Here is the Core Kit on Amazon.
They also say “Combine that with our comprehensive Vi-Pak, for sound nutritional support from head to toe, and patent-pending Neuro Smart Energy drink mix, to support healthy brain function and keep you sharp”. Here is the Vi Pak on Amazon.
The Vi Pak? Is that extra or does it come with the Core Kit? When they say “combine” it makes me think you have to buy the Vi Pak separately. Make sure you understand this part if you purchase the Core Kit.
The Vi Pak is a mulit vitamin and mineral, anti aging and omega fatty acid supplement developed by Dr. Michael Seidman who is on the ViSalus science board. Check out the Vi Pak link for everything in the Vi Pak. Be careful with the Vi Pak if you are pregnant, lactating or taking blood thinner drugs.
Tip. Nobody knows why we age or grow old. There are many theories about aging but no single theory completely explains the aging process. Because of this fact, don’t take too seriously anyone who has an “anti-aging” formula –even if it’s “patented”.
4. Body by Vi Transformation Kit. This is billed as “the ultimate in shaping and nutritional ingredients to help you see and feel maximum results.” It looks like it’s basically a 30 day supply of everything in the Visalus product line. Here is the Transformation Kit on Amazon.
How much do the Visalus kits cost?
I found the prices on the Visalus website in a pdf file.
- Balance Kit: $49
- Shape Kit: $99
- Core kit: $199
- Transformation Kit: $249
Yearly cost of Visalus Kits
Let’s add up what 1 year costs if you used any of the Vlsalus kits.
- Balance Kit. $49 x 12 = $588 per year
- Shape Kit $99 X 6 = $594 per year (each shape kit lasts 2 months)
- Core Kit. $199 x 12 = $2388 per year
- Transformation Kit $249 x 12 = $2998 per year
I checked out ViSalus on the Better Business Bureau and they give the company an “A” Rating as of 8/18/11. The BBB did report 6 complaints for ViSalus but the categories were vague, dealing with issues about “Advertising/Sales Issues” and “Problems with Product/Service”. All complaints appear to have been resolved and I'm not worried about their reputation with customers at this time.
Body by Vi business
Body by Vi seems to be marketed mostly through distributors. It looks like there is a multi level marketing (MLM) aspect to the business which makes some people think ViSalus is a scam. That said, I don’t think MLM is always a bad thing and it does allow some people to make a lot of money with a home based business. In this economy, I do like that.
If you are thinking about being a ViSalus distributor ask “what does the average ViSalus distributor make?”. The answer to that question might help you get an idea of how much you might make.
Also ask ViSalus if you have to buy the product up front before selling it? I don’t think this is the case with ViSalus, but ask anyway before you join up.
Many weight loss supplements are sold via distributors. For example this is mostly how Shakeology is sold.
Speaking of Shakeology, here is a post where I compared ViSalus shakes to Shakeology. There you can get a cost breakdown also.
In some respects the ViSalus shake reminds me of Formula 1 meal shakes by Herbalife. See that review for more information.
The Body by Vi Challenge
Like many people I first heard about ViSalus because of its Body by Vi challenge. This is basically how the challenge works. If you use ViSalus supplements and lose more weight than the others in 90 days, you win.
Prizes for winning the Body by Vi Challenge range from a Hollywood vacation to a cruise to Baja Mexico. Runners up can get other prizes.
The Body by Vi Challenge reminds me of the Body for Life “challenge” which was big in the late 1990s and is still popular today.
I credit Body For Life as being the impetus behind P90X and most other fitness and weight loss challenges that are popular today.
The book, Body For Life was written by Bill Phillips, who used to run EAS supplements. People who changed their life the most in 90 days by using EAS supplements (and working out) got prizes. This is pretty similar to the Body by Vi challenge.
The idea of a fitness or weight loss challenge is very smart marketing. You buy the supplements, work hard and if you win, the company makes a big fuss over you and shows you off to others.
For the company, it’s a win-win.
The company makes money up front when you buy their supplements and the company makes more money later on by showing off the winner of the challenge to “the next generation” of people in the challenge.
You win because you got healthy and got a cool prize.
There isn’t anything wrong with this and getting healthy is great. I only want to point this out to you. It’s also nice that the Body by Vi website lets people interact with others in the Challenge. Online support is good because it’s been shown to help people achieve their weight loss goals.
The Vi Shape
At the core of the ViSalus product line is the weight loss shake called Vi Shape. This shake is included in every Body by Vi Kit. Let’s take a look at it and see what we can discover.
Body By Vi- Shape Ingredients
DV | |
Calories 90 | |
Calories from fat 10 | 10 |
Total fat | 2% |
Saturated fat | 0 |
Trans fat | 0 |
Cholesterol 15 mg | 5% |
Total carbs 7 g | 2% |
Dietary fiber 5g | 22% |
Sugars <1 g | |
Protein 12 g | 24% |
There are also many vitamins and minerals in the Vi Shape as well. Mostly, the shake gives you 30% of each vitamin and mineral. The exception is iron where you only get 5% of your daily value. That’s not a bad thing since most healthy people get enough iron from their diet –and too much iron is not always good.
Overall, the shake is pretty conservative in how much vitamins and minerals it gives you. Again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Tip. Extra vitamins and minerals don’t make you bigger, leaner or stronger. That’s probably why the Vi Shape doesn't give you lots of them.
How much nutrition is in the Body By Vi Shake?
On 11/3/11, I noticed an interesting video on the website BodyByVisalus.com. The video says that to get the same nutritional value in just 1 Body By Vi shake you would have to eat:
- 12 eggs – for vitamin D
- 1.5 cups broccoli – for vitamin E
- 5 peaches – for vitamin A
- 2 chicken breasts – for vitamin B12 (they say “at least 2 chicken breasts”)
- 1.5 cups of frozen yogurt – for calcium
- 1.5 cups of bran flakes – for magnesium
- 18 oz tomato juice – for vitamin B6
- 5 oz cheddar cheese for zinc
- 3 cups Lima beans – for niacin
- 15 slices of whole wheat bread – for pantiothantic acid
- 20 spears of asparagus – for riboflavin
- 2 cups of mushrooms – for copper
- 30 apples – for chromium
- 10 stalks of celery – for manganese
- 3 pineapples – for digestive enzymes
- 30 prunes – for fiber
All that in just 1 shake! Pretty impressive but this is just “fun with numbers”. Don't be fooled by this. For example, take the 30 prunes which they say is where Body Bi Vi gets it fiber from. But, 1 shake only has 5 grams of fiber. I bet if you ate 30 prunes, you would be getting much more than 5 grams of fiber!
As for digestive enzymes, you don't need these unless you have a digestive issue, which most healthy people don't have.
Adding protein to a weight loss shake is smart because it helps reduce our body protein (including muscle protein) from breaking down during dieting – something that can occur. But, each Vi shake only has 12 grams of protein. If you ate the 12 eggs and 2 chicken breasts in the above list, you would be getting MUCH MORE than 12 grams of protein!
The protein in the Vi Shake is a combination of soy and whey protein.
Compared to other weight loss shakes I've seen – like the P90X Recovery Drink – there is nothing in Vi Shape shake that would be considered “controversial”. That’s good. On the downside, I don't see anything special in the Body by Vi Shake either. Basically the Body By Vi Shake just a low calorie weight loss shake.
If you mix it with water, it’s only 90 calories. If you mix it with 8 oz of milk, it’s about 190 calories.
Can ViSalus help you gain muscle?
I'm sure in some people it might be able to help but remember ViSalus shakes have only 90 calories and 12 grams of protein. Gaining muscle is a matter or not just strength training, but extra calories and extra protein.
If you want to know how the ViSalus shake tastes, read my ViSalus shake taste test.
Because it’s fairly low in calories, that’s how the shake helps you lose weight – by reducing the calories you eat per day. If you follow the Body by Vi program you are replacing 1 or 2 meals a day with a ViSalus Shake. You also eat one or two “real” meals a day.
This is the same reasoning behind MANY other weight loss solutions. For example it was the same logic behind Right Size Smoothie. It’s also the basis behind Slim Fast too.
But here’s my question. Is the ViSalus Body Vi Shake better than other weight loss shakes? Will you lose weight faster or safer with Body By Vi than, say, Slim Fast for example? There is no good proof one way or the other.
What do you think?
I avoid all quick weight loss programs like the plague. There is no secret to losing or keeping weight off. A balanced diet, containing plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, etc., avoiding processed foods, sweets, and fried foods, AND exercise!!!
Really in-depth review! I just did a review over at theblogage.com but yours is definitely much more in-depth. I personally know that Visalus works but when you figure in how much it costs, what you’re getting, etc…..it’s not worth it to me. You’d be better off making a kale shake and replacing a meal or two a day with it (throw in some whey protein) and you’d save a ton of money. Of course, this is just my opinion and that’s coming from someone who has sold it as well.
Brizzle, thanks, that is very kind of you to say. Much success with your website-you have some interesting reviews as well 🙂
In regard to the splenda… The Visalus product does not contain “splenda” it contains Sucralose which, yes, is found as a part of splenda not the entire thing. Sucralose is derived straight from sucrose. Just like everything else in this world there are good and bad things about everything.
Also sucralose is only about 15% absorbed in the body… and with the content being <1g in the visalus shakes that is very minimal! Take into consideration all the crap we ingest daily and either ignore it or don't even know it.
With the protein in visalus yes it is 12g per serving but when mixed with skim milk the protein content goes up to 20g per shake. Therefore you would have to eat 4 eggs.. and that is only the protein equivalence you are getting… plus you are adding all bad cholesterol when you eat the eggs… oh and the sodium, and the fat, etc.
Bottom line we all eat crap daily that will affect our body in some way. But with visalus it makes it a little easier for most Americans (and its cost effective) to eat healthy and attain a healthy meal with all the vitamins and minerals needed for approx $1.65 per shake/meal! Overall, there is nothing to lose with Visalus… only weight!
So, lets see here: We have responses from corporate with sad stories to lull readers into a complacent stance and will perhaps purchase the Vi Shape, that only has 12 g of protein. While using this product as the crutch to get most of you motivated and have as your “daily nutrition” or guideline, you probably have tried all others to no prevail either. Can we find the common denominator here? Yes, you.
Eat 6 small meals a day and workout daily and voila, your thinner. 2 eggs have 12g of protein and is much cheaper. “But it doesn’t taste like sweet cream?” Wow, is this the incentive you need to stay in shape? How about the desire to continue living or play with your kids/grandchildren? I watch a 75 year old man walk 5 miles a day and he’s in great shape. He’s a former soldier tho, hmmm…that’s right, less than 1% join the Armed Forces. I guess there’s something to be said about SELF DISCIPLINE!!!!!
I can’t speak to the specifics of whether the ViSalus shakes work any better than other shakes, but what I can say is that since my wife and I started them 13 months ago, we’ve lost over 175 pounds combined. We were both at 290 pounds and now she’s down to 205 and I’m back under 200 for the first time in nearly 15 years. Feeling better at 41 than I ever did in my 30’s is pretty nice. There is no gimmick or magic – it’s just a meal replacement shake, but a great tasting meal replacement shake that we have incorporated into our daily nutrition and diet. That’s all I can really say about the matter.
The shakes are not lactose free nor are they Gmo free. Please research the ingredients carefully & get your Dr’s opinion before consuming the product. They have caused serious digestive issues for myself & my friends. It is a company mainly built on hype, there is no magic weight loss ingredient.
Thank you so much for your review. I took the time to read through everything, including the comments, and I’m now getting ready to read your other article on Metab awake. I really appreciate your honesty and your professional responses to some aggressive comments.
I recently started taking the shakes twice a day because they suit MY life-style needs and I do hope that paired with my moderately active habits it will make a difference weight-wise, but seeing the research both in your article and in the comments has really put my mind at ease about using the product.
I have Crohn’s Disease, which is a gastro-intestinal disorder and I’m already used to replacing meals with liquids (my former meal replacement was Ensure and I never found it to be satisfying enough) There have been testimonies from people with GI disorders that saw improvement on their condition, but like one of the commenters said This is most likely a side-effect of simply eating/being healthier in your daily decisions.
Thank you again for your honest review,
Lisy, you are VERY welcome! I’m happy I was able to help 🙂
Abi, in Promoter relations, be careful he is not a customer service person. I cancelled 2 months ago and because the person didn’t do their job and cancelled our order, he doesn’t care, won’t work with you, worse company representative I have ever spoken to, he only thinks he is right, not the customer
I appreciate your comments Joe. You write well. I have read several of your articles and you are very articulate. You research well. I have researched MUSC and the New England Journal of Medicine and several other medical journals and sites and can not find any concrete information against soy – nothing compared to the effects of tobacco and alcohol on the body. It (soy) is in so many more products both digestible and topical than people realize and some people are just allergic to legumes, nuts and soy so that being the case they should avoid it if at all possible. I personally can not take anything with aspartame and stay far away however I don’t have the issues with sucralose (though people are allergic to it or have a sensitivity to it)
I have Hashimotos Thyroditis (hypo-thyroid) and this is the only product that I have been able to lose weight on and stick to. No issues with blood work and I monitor that closely with my doctor and have copies of my blood work to keep track of what is ( I am not saying it is the miracle however I am doing the WORK on my end which is what people fail to realize that no matter what they chose to use – they need to be consistent) I like the 90 day challenge part of ViSalus because of the Challenge structure. I owned a gym which included in it a supplement shop with product from many of the top national brands – these all have their + and – about them. Again key is to stick with a program. There is no magic pill – the key is WORK and effort and changing your habits.
I am working to be a good example and a good leader so my people don’t have the same experience as Bruce did. It is unfortunate and I am sorry that happened to him. It happens in all Networking Marketing companies some are just lucky to get good upline, as in any business, some are lucky to have a good boss and are paid and appreciated for the work they do. We got in ViSalus to change lives and to help people improve themselves…We keep in touch with our promoters and customers and have developed a family (sorry if some find that cliche but we spend a lot of time supporting our people). I am not here to change the world but to change one person’s world at a time. To make a difference. That also takes effort and consistency.
Shelly, thanks for your nice words and I do agree, it takes one person at a time to make a difference.
I thought your review was good Joe. It seems very fair and unbiased. Visalus is just one of many tools that people can use to lose weight. It will work for some and won’t work for others.
lee thanks. I feel that if it works, its more about the discipline that people adopt -and thats true for everything (slimfast, special k diet etc.).
I thought they used non-gmo soy.
They do use non GMO soy (isoflavones removed) AND a whey concentrate…they say it is a “long-lasting” protein blend…
definitely not vegan compatible
I was a distributor for a short while. The product is overpriced in my estimation. I am also a Vegan now and some things might not be for me that others find no problem with (Whey). I had a major problem with some of the claims that get people to join for larger and larger sums of money. These “kits” are filled with “sample packs” of lots of overpriced things people who eat healthy simply don’t need.
I got a call from one of the district people in my “upline” wanting me to order a special amount of product so that “we” could support one of her people to get to a higher level. I did so, thinking I was paying it forward, and heard nothing more from them. No thanks for that help, no “Now what can we do for you?”. This kind of “family” I don’t need. The funny thing about their sales pitch is that they seem to think everybody will want to get onto the leasing program and get a brand new “Bimmer” and have your check pay for the monthly amount.
I’ll just bet there are lots of year old and more BMW’s on the market from former Visalus sales people! The old saying that if it seems too good to be true is so true about all MLM’s. You can call it what you choose, but it’s all about the dollar, and very little about “helping people” when it all comes down to it. If it were about helping people only why would there have to be cruises, cars, etc. offered for prizes?
Good post and clearly a company that only cares about the higher ups. Were you paid with cash equally based on sales?
Rene, thanks. Do you mean was I paid to write my review? No I wasn’t.
Bruce,
Very unfortunate for some teams that treat their promoters that way. It does happen. It doesn’t mean it is right, but it does happen. I have heard of some team stories just like yours.
As any personal business, it is all about how you create your own situation and company. I always take things like that as a “lesson learned”.
Hopefully that will not happen to you again.
I have to say, that after two weeks of taking one Shake a day in the Vi Challenge, I have felt great, my mental energy has gone through the roof, and my weight has dropped too. The Shakes do need a bit of buffing up with some added stuff as some people have mentioned just to carry it through to the next meal. I have been involved with many products before, and can truthfully say, this one is very good.
I stepped away from the stuff after researching their soy .. Plus not happy with the sucralose. Lou of other healthier protein shakes out there that will do the same thing .
I have been a Promoter for ViSalus for about 3 years. I have no thyroid and could not lose weight or balance my BP and other functions. Since I have been with the company I have lost 72lbs, added 15 lbs of muscle, BP is in healthy range, and I feel wonderful. I take Metab-Awake along with my synthroid, and when I do not take my vitamins, I can feel the difference. I will be a loyal subject to our country, and now that we have Vi Crunch, we are once again #1 for healthy transformation
Roger, thanks for the feedback and for mentioning Vi Crunch. I looked it up. its a breakfast cereal. Question, how do you know you gained 15 lb of muscle? how did you determine this? just curious.
Measurements and following my tracker. 50 years old, and can out work a 20 something LOL! Joe the products literally saved my life. Even my Endo was impressed!
Roger, oh Im sure droping that weight added added immensely to your health! I was just curious about the 15 lbs of muscle because some of the techniques to do this have issues. Probably the best way would be to dunk you under the water and weigh you. Regardless of the 15 lb of muscle gain, Im happy that your health is improved.
That means a lot 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend.
Also, while this company might not be for everyone, I am loyal. I thank you for having a non biased page where people can speak freely 🙂
Thanks Roger, I really do appreciate that 🙂
I used to be a big supporter of the regime. Now that I am living on a plant based diet (Vegan) I realize it’s not hard at all to get in the range for any particular body type (height/weight proportionate).
I really have a problem with the claims about the product giving a person all they need, and how “balanced” a diet it is. It’s not natural to have a shake or two a day and eat a third “regular ” meal. This doesn’t even come close to giving you what you really need nutritionally.
I think besides that, and even if a great point can be made about the nutritional value, the actual value of the shake and other supplements is poor at best. It doesn’t work for me to hear that I would have to eat all those things (more than anybody can afford or stuff in) just to get the same nutritional value as one shake.
Think about it, we are constantly being told that there is a quick fix to ALL our problems. Good nutrition and perfect weight management can never be done with a weight loss diet or pills, or unnatural and chemically enhanced shakes. Find a Vegan and ask if it is indeed a cheaper, cleaner, more ethical way of living with our animal partners.
If BTW you find a overweight Vegan my feeling is there is something going on there besides what they ingest, it’s really hard for me to overeat on my diet, yet I am always satisfied and had lost all the extra pounds in the first year. Of course anything to get you on your way is pretty good to start, it at least makes you start looking around for good nutritional facts, not sales hype. Bruce
I am very happy your plan works for you. May God keep you healthy 🙂
My husband and I just started taking the Vi-Shape and we both have good energy and sleeping well. We use unsweetened Almond milk instead of skim and it may be a little more expensive but the amount you save on food can’t compare to the nutrition it has and better than dairy products. I am taking the vitamins and I believe in your suggestion no need to take them.
Both my husband and I are not distributors and will be retiring in 2 years. If all goes well that will be our travel and fun money! Buying things for the grandchildren and not worrying about money stresses! We use a few strawberries and one banana and other fruit only in small quantities, fruit has a lot of natural sugar! My son 28 got us involved. He lost 20 lbs and doing great in the business, He is helping us reach our goals! Appreciate all comments above! Jan
Last year I lost 31 lbs on the Body By Vi 90 day challenge.I thought.it was great! The shakes came only in Sweet Cream Flavor and from that I made a multitude of my own flavored shakes/smoothies using frozen fruits, almond milk, coconut milk, fresh juices, bananas etc…they were always creamy and tasty, not like some other shakes that were hard to choke down, I kept all my shakes between 200 and 300 calories, had healthy snacks in-between and one good meal a day.
I really liked that the mix is lactose-free (I’m lactose intolerant), gluten-free, very low sugar,..I’m not a huge fan of sucralose (splenda) but I couldn’t taste it and on research found it had .03 grams per serving..or about 1/3 of what diet Coke has in it. Lucky for me, after tasting mine, a lot of my family and friends did their own “90 Day Challenge, so I only had to pay for my first batch of shakes…it was free when at least 3 others started on it by my referral…a very smart MLM,..because free tastes even better!( I just had to pay my $6 shipping)
I’m not a bull-crapper, or trying to sell anything, I’m just a full-time FF/medic that needed a boost to get back on the healthy track, and I’m glad I did- 1 year later…weight still off and back in the weight room and on the road putting miles under my heels.
PS Joe: those Vi Pack vitamins do come in that Core kit, I never ordered that one though.I used the $99 Shape Kit for all mine. And I read your taste test- to stay full longer I added things like PB2(powdered peanut butter) banana, & a little cocoa powder for a chocolaty taste.,The fruity ones got low-fat Greek yogurt added,& sometimes a small scoop of oats or milled flax-seed…the extra protein and fiber helped too! I changed it up a lot.
JenD thanks for writing. I don’t think the Vi Pack vitamins are needed either. vitamins don’t help weight loss and when we eat better, we naturally eat more vitamins, minerals etc. So its smart you saved money not using them.
The Vi-Pak was what the company was created on. They were selling those before the shake mix was introduced. Once the shake mix was created, then they started the 3 for free program, which took off like wildfire.
The vitamins are a give or take for me. I do feel better when I’m on them, however they are more expensive than the shake mix (if you do not get the core kit for free).
Kudos to this article, Joe.
Teresa, thanks I appreciate that – and for the info on the history of the products too!
I am on borderline sugar and have Hypothyoride too. Is it safe to use it?
So from what you say you have borderline high blood sugar and you have an under-active thyroid. I hope you are taking thyroid meds? yes? I dont think the vi shake will hurt but its not because there is anything special in them but rather because its a low calorie shake. thats all. if it helps you lose weight, that should help you bring down your blood sugar levels.
Dr. Joel fuhrman is a nutritarian based doctor. He has proven to turn diabetes, heart disease and cancer around with his nutrient rich plan
Im currently going to start taking African Mango, Raspberry Ketones, and Green Coffee Bean (Seen on Dr.OZ) for my weightloss. I want to lose about 20lbs as soon as possible. I do exercise a few times a week.
My question is, will the Vi-Shape kit be safe to use with the African Mango, Raspberry Ketones, and Green Coffee Bean supplements?
They’re are all natural so my thoughts are it wont be a problem.
Alexis, natural does not mean always safe or safe for everybody. Cyanide and lightening and quicksand are all natural – but they aren’t safe right? I dont think the weight loss shake will hurt because all thats doing is getting you to substutie it for higher calorie foods, but I would not use any metabolism boosters if they sell those.
Oh my Goodness DONT USE GREEN COFFEE BEAN !! Before I took it I read about someone having issues with it but I ignored it..I ended up in the er 3 times after taking it for a week…My heart rate was 170 and the doctor said I took in so much caffine in a week that my body was having withdrawals…I would wake up shaking!!! I had anxiety really bad, I would feel like passing out … it took 1 1/2 months to feel normal again…I had to drink tons of water to flush my system…DONT DO IT!
Thanks for your concern Alicia. I ended up stopping all three because I took them for a week and they made me very nauseous. My body handled the caffeine, but they made me feel very sick.
I have been using Body by vi for 3 month and was very happy with my weight loss until my chem. 20 test results. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and visit my doctor every 6 months.
Today, my triglyceride level was 565 instead of the normal 124. I explained about the new diet and surprise SOY can affect your body ability to digest good nutrients. I would suggest you get a chem. 20 before and after because this may happen to you. The product did make me lose weight and may not affect your triglyceride the same.
This is very interesting.
LOL… Hey Joe? Splenda? Really?
Why not check out : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18800291
The toxic effects of this compound are only just beginning to be fully realized, but what is known, chlorine is toxic to the body (different from chloride compounds) and bonding chlorine to a sugar molecule so the body does not think it is sugar is a bad idea, Chlorine is absorbed cumulatively, and as shown at Duke, the stomach reacts to it and it kills the flora.
But year… Who needs healthy bacteria in the stomach.
Dave, appreciate your thoughts. The study you quoted is a rat study but I’ll agree I think this stuff should be used in moderatation. More to the bigger picture, Id rather people tossed some fruits and veggies in a blender and drank that rather than using any pre-made shake powder in a bag.
If this product contains any Splenda I have to avoid it like the plague. If I consume anything with Splenda in it I will have a killer migraine within 30-45 minutes. It’s not good stuff for me, and I know of others that have the same issues with Splenda too.
I’m interested in the ViShake. My mom has issues with artificial sugars too, except, she has major stomach pains. Have you found any products, like Shakeology or ViShake, that work for you, with no artificial sugars?
Samantha, Im not aware of any but you might try going to your local health food store and asking the people who work there there any shakes without artificial sweeteners. Look at the ingredinets list and see if any are listed also, as a double check. You might also ask your local pharmacist if they are aware of any. Pharmacys that sell supplements might be a good source of information as I’d think the pharmacists there would know what was in the supplements they sell, or at least, could look at the ingredients and tell you if any artificial sweeteners were present.
Guess you were absent the day you learned Chloride is already in your body. Chlorine and chloride are 2 different things.
Hmm- I teach Group exercise but our gym has a very strong policy of not promoting Anything to members etc,,,
I have a few friends in Canada and US that have been using this and seen great results.
I am vegetarian and have been looking for a shake with a decent amount of protein for after exercising – all the ones I have tried have given me hideous gas- Vega being the worst culprit..
Vi seems to leave my stomach alone – I mix with soy milk or juice and frozen berries
I enjoy the shake and usually have 1 a day on heavy teaching days . . i am not using it as per the “recommendations”,
