Update 3/10/23. What is skinny fiber and does it work? To me, the name skinny fiber is ironic because I thought all fiber was supposed to help people lose weight. I did some digging into Skinny Fiber and discovered that there is some research on some of its ingredients. That will be the focus of this unbiased review. Does it have a secret ingredient? People may have heard about the enzymes in Skinny Fiber. Do they help with weight loss? That will also be addressed in this review. This review will help you decide if Skinny Fiber is right for you. See the Skinny Body Max review too.
What Is Skinny Fiber?
Skinny Fiber is exactly what the name says: a fiber pill supplement that is touted to help with weight loss. There is research on some of its ingredients, and those clinical studies will be summarized below.
Skinny Fiber Research
Is there any clinical evidence showing Skinny Fiber really helps people lose weight? Searching the product website reveals no research studies on the product.
Likewise, searching the National Library of Medicine (Pubmed.gov) for “skinny fiber” and “skinny fiber weight loss” reveal no studies either.
Fortunately, for this review, there are weight loss studies on some of the ingredients in this supplement.

Other Ingredients
The product also contains these other ingredients:
- Gelatin capsule
- microcrystalline cellulose
- magnesium stearate
These additional ingredients likely play no role in the effects or benefits of Skinny Fiber. Because gelatin is the first ingredient listed, it makes up most of these ingredients.
Let's look at each active ingredient in Skinny Fiber separately.
Glucomannan
Glucomannan (also called Konjac root) is a fiber that helps people feel full. It's in many weight loss products I've previously investigated, including:
This fiber is added to weight loss supplements because there is indeed some research that shows glucomannan can help weight loss. Studies usually use about 1 to 3 grams per day. Two skinny fiber pills have a 1.15 grams total of its proprietary blend of ingredients.
Since glucomannan is listed first in the blend's ingredients, I take that to mean it is mostly glucomannan fiber.
For those who want to compare prices, here is glucomannan capsules and glucomann powder on Amazon.
Caralluma Fimbriata
This is a cactus-like plant, rumored to have appetite-suppressing effects that grow in India. The idea behind how it works is that chemicals in the plant are said to reduce chemicals in the brain that cause us to want to eat. That is the theory anyway.
The plant is sometimes called a “famine food” likely because it's used during times of famine when there is not much food to eat. Given that it might reduce appetite, some suspect it may also help weight loss. Does it?
Here's what the research says:
In one study involving 43 people, researchers noted that 1000 mg Caralluma fimbriata per day, given for 12 weeks, caused a 2.2-inch reduction in waist circumference relative to placebo and a decrease in the waist-to-hip ratio. Those taking Caralluma Fimbriata also appeared to have a decrease in the smell, taste, and look of food. That of course could lead people to eat less.
The people in this study also followed a lower calorie eating plan. People ate 500 fewer calories than normal. It's also interesting to note that both groups lost similar amounts of weight. Also, those taking Caralluma Fimbriata did not lose more weight than the placebo group.
In another study involving 50 men and women, those who received 1000 mg of Caralluma Fimbriata per day were noted to significantly reduce waist circumference and hunger levels compared to those who received a placebo. There was no clinical difference in body weight.
In this investigation, researchers saw that rats given Caralluma Fimbriata experienced less food intake and reduced body weight gain than rats that did not receive Caralluma Fimbriata.
In a small study conducted on 15 kids with a rare genetic disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome that causes excessive appetite, 1000 mg of Caralluma seemed to reduce appetite when given over a 10-week period. Even though this study lasted 10 weeks, the study does not mention if body weight was reduced.
On the flip side, a study published in 2015 that noted Caralluma fimbriata did not work. This study involved 89 overweight people who were randomly given either a placebo or 1000 mg of Caralluma per day for 12 weeks. Those taking Caralluma did not have any improvements in weight loss or reduction in appetite.

Chá de Bugre
Also called Cordia ecalyculata and Cordia salicifolia. The Skinny Fiber website says that Chá de Bugre can “support a healthy metabolism” and is an “appetite suppressant.” Is there any proof it does this?
No human evidence on Chá de Bugre and weight loss could be located. A mouse study published in 2017 noted that Cha de Bugre, both alone and when combined with Spirulina, reduced appetite in mice.
Another mouse study noted that acha de bugre did not reduce body weight or food consumption.
The Enzyme Blend
When Skinny Fiber first came out, its website said this about the enzymes:
“The biggest CHALLENGE to losing weight is that most of us are NOT getting enough enzymes from our food to properly DIGEST what we eat.“
That working has changed and they now say that:
“When we don’t get enough enzymes from our food, our bodies can’t properly digest what we eat, causing use to often have a weaker immune system and gain weight.”
But it's important to know that our bodies make enzymes. While there are enzymes in food, they are quickly digested in the stomach when we eat them. Might enzymes help someone with digestion issues? Maybe. But for healthy people, evidence that they help weight loss is lacking.
The label says that 2 Skinny Fiber pills contain 260 mg of the following enzymes:
- Amylase (carbohydrate digesting enzyme)
- Protease (protein-digesting enzyme)
- Lipase (fat-digesting enzyme
- Glucoamylase (sugar-digesting enzyme)
- Papain (protein-digesting enzyme)
- Cellulase (carbohydrate digesting enzyme)
- Bromelain (protein-digesting enzyme)
One thing to remember is that enzymes that are eaten are quickly destroyed by the stomach's acidity soon after they are consumed. Because of that, those enzymes don't get into the blood to do anything.
Enzymes are safe and won't hurt anyone. They might add a little bit of protein but as for helping with weight loss, it would take human studies to know for sure.
How Much Sodium?
If you looked closely at the label above, you saw that 2 capsules contained “5 grams” (5000 mg) of sodium, which the label also indicates is less than 1% of the Daily Value for sodium. But 5 grams is not 1% of the Daily Value for sodium. In fact, 5 grams is far
more than most people should be consuming. Most medical experts advise people to keep sodium to 1500 mg to 2300 mg (1.5 to 2.3 grams). If Skinny Fiber really has 5g, this would put people way over what they should be getting.
Could this be a typo and that the product really has only 5 mg of sodium rather than 5 grams?
If I am wrong, and Skinny Fiber really has 5 grams of sodium (in only 2 capsules), then people watching their sodium intake should be aware of this.
Skinny Fiber Active Ingredients
Looking at the research on each of the ingredients in Skinny Fiber, I see two ingredients that might help people lose weight:
And of those two ingredients, I feel glucomannan has the most evidence.
Ingredients With Limited Evidence
No human weight loss evidence could be located or the following ingredients in Skinny Fiber:
- Enzymes
- Chá de Bugre
This review will be updated as it becomes available if the evidence is found. If anyone is aware of the evidence for any of these ingredients, please share in the comments below.
Skinny Fiber On TV
On January 22, 2014, Skinny Fiber was featured on The Balancing Act, a TV show on the LifeTime Network. The interview featured the CEO of Skinny Fiber and a woman named Kayla, who lost 40 pounds while taking the product. Kayla has a Facebook page where she lists she is a Skinny Fiber distributor. Nothing is wrong with this, but it was not mentioned in the Balancing Act segment.
In the Balancing Act interview, when speaking about why Kayla was able to 40 pounds, the company CEO said:
“The reason that this product was able to work is because the enzymes were able to get her body in a condition where losing weight was possible.”
But, as already mentioned above, there is a lack of evidence that enzymes help weight loss. In fact, the very name – “Skinny Fiber” – tells you that it's the fiber -not the enzymes- promoting weight loss.
Think about it, they don’t call it “Skinny Enzymes” do they? The simple answer is that Skinny Fiber is a fiber supplement.
Segments seen in the Balancing Act are called “Branded Entertainment Segments.” In other words, the segments feature different brands (products) in a way that is meant to both inform and entertain people.
When I called The Balancing Act, I was told that while the Skinny Fiber segments are not “infomercials,” the companies featured on the show do pay a “pre-production fee” prior to being on the show.
I was told that companies that do not pay this pre-production fee would probably not be featured on The Balancing Act.
So how is this not an infomercial?
There is nothing inherently wrong with this partnership between companies and broadcast media. I bring this up for those who didn’t know what they were watching.
Protandim has also been featured on The Balancing Act, so see that review for more information.
Skinny Fiber 90-Day Challenge
There is a Skinny Fiber 90-Day Challenge. To quote Ben Glinsky, in the Balancing Act interview, the reason for the 90-day challenge is that:
“the enzymes that we have in this product have to build in your body and until your body gets healthy enough with those enzymes to be able to let go of that extra fat, losing weight is almost impossible.”
What enzymes is he talking about? He doesn’t tell us.
In my opinion, the reason for the Skinny Fiber 90-Day Challenge is to get people to do something on a regular basis. If they do something regularly, it becomes a habit.
If people spend 90 days trying to lose weight, many of those people will be successful to some extent. There is nothing wrong with it. It gives people goals to aim for, and that is a good thing.
Many weight loss companies offer a “challenge” that lasts about 90 days or so. In my opinion, this can all be traced back to the book Body For Life by Bill Philips, which got people to exercise, eat well, and take supplements made by EAS (Bill Philips was the owner of EAS).
It was a win for people because many lost weight, and it was a win for EAS because they made a lot of money from people who purchased their supplements. For those who are curious, the supplement company, EAS, was later purchased by Abbot Labs, a pharmaceutical company.
How Much Does The 90-Day Challenge Cost?
Let's do the math for those who are thinking about doing the Skinny Fiber 90-day Challenge:
1 Bottle of skinny fiber costs $59.95. 1 Bottle has 120 capsules which is a 2-month supply (if taking only 2 pills per day). If you take 4 pills per day, a bottle of 120 pills will last a month (120 ÷ 4 = 30 days).
If taking 4 capsules per day the 90-day challenge would cost:
59.95 X 3 months = $179.95 (shipping and handling might be extra).
I believe glucomannan is the active ingredient in Skinny Fiber. And Glucomannan is a lot less expensive.
How Many Pills Per Day?
Some distributors advocate taking 2 capsules daily Skinny Fiber at least 30 minutes before eating. This should be done with the biggest meals of the day. For some, this might be 4 pills per day. Take pills with 1 -2 glasses of water.
As with any new supplement, it's best to start with less than is recommended. For example, starting with only 1 pill per day for the first week, followed by 2 pills the following week, and so on until reaching what the company recommends.
How Much Water?
People need to take Skinny Fiber with enough water to swallow the capsules completely. This is to ensure they don't get stuck in the throat. Drinking water during weight loss programs is also advocated because it can also help curb appetite.
Water is good, although it should be remembered that drinking so much water drinking too much is not always the best. There is a medical condition called hyponatremia (high-poe-nay-tree-me-ah). Also called “water intoxication.” This condition results when too much water is consumed.
Basically, the water consumed dilutes the electrolytes in the blood. This can cause headaches, fatigue, confusion and even loss of consciousness. In rare cases, people have died from hyponatremia. This very rare condition is mentioned not to scare anyone, but to rather give people something to think about if they encounter advice that places an unusually high emphasis on drinking water while taking weight loss supplements.
As a rough estimate, aim to drink half your body weight in water per day. So, for someone who is 180 pounds, this would be 90 oz per day. Looking at the color of your urine can also give an indication too. Yellow urine might mean you are becoming dehydrated.
While the urine test is popular, it should be remembered that the vitamin riboflavin can also make urine look yellow too. Those who are taking multivitamins should check how much riboflavin is present if using the urine test for hydration. Skinny Fiber does not have riboflavin.
Does It Contain Caffeine?
Skinny fiber has no caffeine or other stimulants. It is basically a fiber pill supplement.
Does It Contain Gluten?
Skinny Fiber appears to be gluten-free.
Is It Organic?
There is no mention of whether or not Skinny Fiber is organic.
Does Skinny Fiber Contain HCG?S
Skinny Fiber does not contain the HCG hormone or any other hormones. Here is the review of HCG diet research for those who want to know more about this.
Skinny Fiber vs. Metamucil
As stated above, it is believed that glucomannan (konjac root extract) is the main active ingredient in Skinny Fiber. Metamucil is another fiber supplement that is marketed to help people lose weight. Metamucil contains a fiber called psyllium. As mentioned in the Metamucil review, there are studies that psyllium fiber can help with weight loss too.
So what's better: Skinny Fiber or Metamucil? At this time, there are no head-to-head- clinical studies comparing these products to each other. There are also no studies comparing glucomannan fiber to psyllium fiber either for weight loss.
Could the other ingredients in Skinny Fiber make it better? Of course, it's possible. But that would take clinical studies to prove.
Skinny Fiber Customer Complaints
When looking at online complaints about any product, ask yourself if what you are reading is reasonable or not. For example, someone might complain that they did not receive a product on time. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the person complaining and ask yourself if what they are saying would be a problem for you.
The Skinny Fiber Lawsuit
In the comments section below, I was made aware of a lawsuit involving Skinny Fiber. It appears to involve another company called Master Strategies LLC which it said, owns the trademark to Skinny Fiber. Instead of going into detail here, I'll just refer you to the bloggers website to read more about this. Update. It appears the judge has dismissed this lawsuit.
Skinny Fiber Side Effects
Skinny Fiber is likely very safe for most healthy people. That said, here are a few things to consider if you are not healthy. This list is not complete.
- Stop taking Skinny Fiber at least 2 weeks before having surgery.
- Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Drink sufficient water to completely swallow the pills. This is to reduce the chance of choking if the capsules get stuck in the throat. This is a remote chance but it should be kept in mind. Remember, glucomannan expands when it comes in contact with liquids.
- One mouse study noted that at very high levels, Chá de Bugre might break chromosomes. That would be bad if it did because it might lead to conditions like cancer. However, another mouse study noted that Cha de Bugre – both alone and when combined with Spirulina – did not have any effect on chromosomes. Better research should be done to resolve this issue.
Skinny Fiber And Breast Feeding?
Women who are breastfeeding to speak to their doctor about the supplements they take. This is because of the possibility that some supplements may pass from the mom to the baby in the breast milk. It's probably wise to not use this product while they are breastfeeding.
Who Makes Skinny Fiber?
The company is called Skinny Body Care and its website is SkinnyBodyCare.com. This website now redirects to another site called Valentus which has its own dietary supplement line. Update. The Skinny Body Care website no longer appears to be working.
The company address was 341 W 6100 S Murray, UT 84107. MS #1420.
423 Bussen Underground Rd St. Louis, MO 63129.
It's not known if these addresses are still valid.
How to Return Skinny Fiber?
The contact page of the product website does not list a phone number. They do, however, list this US address: 423 Bussen Underground Rd St. Louis, MO 63129. This address corresponds to a company called United Fulfillment Center. This company may take orders and ship Skinny Fiber to customers. The phone number to the fulfillment center is 314.894.3200.
This address is different than the original address found for this product: MS #1420 341 W 6100 S Murray, UT 84107. For those who purchased Skinny Fiber from a distributor, it's best to get return information from the distributor rather than just send the product back for a refund. There may be extra steps needed to return the product.
Does Skinny Fiber Work?
Skinny Fiber is a fiber supplement. Because it uses a type of fiber that has been shown to help weight loss, I would not be surprised if some people said it worked. The main active ingredient in Skinny Fiber is likely glucomannan (konjac fiber). Depending on cost, that might be the lesser expensive way to go.

Wow!!!!!! Hello, Joe. Thanks, this has been such a great read and informative. A friend just shared SF with me with such excitement. I google SF and ran across this site and now I’m excited and pleased I didn’t invest may hard working money on the product. :0).
Again, Joe, Thanks a million for taking time out of your busy schedule to research and share this information, You are awesome, Regards, Mrs. Jones
Joe says
Mrs. Jones, you are very welcome and I’m very happy you were able to find me 🙂
Erica says
I wish I had seen this article before I wasted my money. Common sense should have told mebetter, but after hearing it for over a year…
Joe says
Eric, Sorry that happened but I’m glad you found me. Please share my review with your friends so they can see my words also.
Tigz says
Your suggestion in purchasing Caralluma and Glucomannan ~ may I ask are these 2 separate supplements and where is the best place to purchase..thank you again for this informative research as i was getting ready to spend $$ that now is unnecessary on Skinny Fiber
Joe says
Tigz, I felt these ingredients – glucomannan and Caralluma – had more evidence than the other ingredients in Sinny Fiber and of those I felt glucomannan had the most evidence. These supplements should be available at most healthfood stores. Here is Glucomannan powder on Amazon
and here is Caralluma Fimbriata on Amazon . I’d think the vitamin section of your local pharmacy might have these also.
My advice would be to start with only one product for the first week and use less than is recommended, just to see if you have any side effects. This is my advice when starting any new supplement also.
Sheree says
How many capsules of each should you take a day?
Joe says
Sheree, do you mean skinny fiber or the ingredients I felt were its active ingredients?
Joanne says
Hi Joe. My close friend introduced me to Skinny fibre (sf) two months ago and I waited to see how successful the weightloss and reduced inches she and her collegues experienced. During that time I researched… and researched. Reading your article though inspired me to really get serious. Afterall, as someone out there once said, “if dieting were as easy as taking a pill, one of the richest women in the world (Opra) would be permanently skinny!
Thank you for being so thorough. The one thing I discovered in my own research was a concern about the salt ingredient. On two sites I read about the potential harm of ingesting 5g in two capsules. However, the information was incorrect in that two capsules contain 5mg, not 5g.
Although that was a relief, I was still stuck with my questions: where and how are the ingredients grown, harvested, processed, and manufactured? What are ALL the ingredients in sf? Then it dawned on me. I don’t worry about these things with just about anything else I eat because all the ingredients have be listed in food packaging in Canada. I assume that, because it’s allowed to be sold, it’s not dangerous for me, right? Bahahahaha. Sorry. I digress.
As an experienced dieter (35 years of it) I found one thing especially curious about sf. The amount of water sf recommends is the same as most reputable diet programs recommend. Why? Because water helps make you feel full! Dah!
I had to ask myself how much lack of appeitite is the result of all the water you’re suddenly drinking verses the sf you’re taking? That being said, my friend and her friends are seeing results. So, do I take it.
Well, any dieter should be able to tell you that just about all diet programs work. With or without exercise, whatever diet you go on will almost always cause you to eat less. Yes, with some diets you can even eat as much as you want…. I personally don’t consider eating as much celery or green beans as I want is the same as eating whatever I WANT.
Many diets will provide you with excellent ideas on how, where, when, and who to eat with. Some diets will tell you to eat this with that and not to eat that with this. A few will tell you that dieting worst lie is that it’s all about calories: you can eat whatever you want as long as you don’t go over your points or your allotted calories. Yeah, that’s healthy..lol.
I have learned a crapload in 35 years but the only diet I’ve ever found successful AND HEALTHY AND SAFE is from a book long ago recommended to me by my gynocologist: “Eat Yourself Slim” by Michel Montignac.
I’ll say it again: “if sf was the answer, surely Opra would be taking it, endorsing it, and SHE’D BE SKINNY, permanently!
Joe says
Joanne, thanks for writing. I had never heard of Amazon Link.” target=”_blank”>Eat Yourself Thin but here it is on Amazon for those who want to check it out. Drinking lots of water is something a lot of diets (and supplement programs) recommend and Ive also wondered as you have about its contribution to the weight loss experienced.
Bette says
Thank you for this information. A while ago I was friended on Facebook with someone who was a distributer of this product. However, the information just was you were talking about was very vague and somewhat mis-leading, including there is no contact information for her. I also think her picture is a fake and not really her on FB. I have attached her website for you to view. gettrimandfit.sbc90.com/ Her name on FB is Lynn Cole.
I’m going to unfriend her as it just seems very strange. Since I was thinking about purchasing this product I had many questions but there was not place to call her or even inbox a private message. Thank you for the information.
Joe says
Bette, I looked at the website. While I cant be certain, those pictures look to me like they might be ‘stock photos”. there are websites that sell pictures. That’s what those appear to be to me but again, I cant be sure. I’m glad you listed the name of the person (lynn cole) on FB. I looked up the whois.com info for this website. Whois.com is a website that tells information about who owns websites. As you can see from the whois.com link whois.com/whois/gettrimandfit.com the person who registered this site is named Francesca Andretta-Pulera. I’m not sure what the relationship is between these two people.
LuAnn says
This is just incredibly helpful! Thanks for the time you took to do the research. I will be trying Glucommanan and hope for some good results.

LuAnn, thank you, I am very glad I was able to help 🙂

Question for Skinny Fiber reps. Who is Jennifer Healy?
Eva Suzuki says
Hi there Joe, she’s a rep
Joe says
Eva, whose a skinny fiber rep- Joann?
Chris Pyle says
Morning Joe,
Had to find my old post of February 22, to get a time frame on my taking the Caralluma and Glucomannan .. I believe it was about a week after my post my Caralluma and Glucomannan order arrived. I was not good to take it for awhile and it was a hit and miss kind of situation. THEN I decided to just take them in the morning with the rest of my vitamins I have always taken and this seems to be working much better.
My weight problem is all over but worse in my waist and lower tummy area. I only bothered to measure my waste and the largest part around my abdomen. And the winner is ME!! And your information. LOL I have lost two inches off my both waist and abdomen since I started taking the Caralluma and Glucomannan only. Not the skinny fiber.
I have not changed my diet and I eat a bowl of ice cream almost every night. I have been working some in the yard now the snow is gone and also doing some projects in the house but not excessive.Think spring cleaning. I have not been exercising other than the yard and house work. nothing has changed. I am NOT getting on the scale. The tape measure is my friend.
Will report back in a couple more months to let you know how things are going. The deck is stacked against me. I am almost 65 and have low thyroid for 30 years. Past Menopausal and totally stressed with the care of my husband. But I am hanging in there and really hoping this is the product that will work for me.
Chris
Joe says
Chris, that is great news! I am glad the tape measure is showing improvements. If you are feeling better and your clothes are fitting better than that is a WIN in my book! Big Congrats Chris and thanks for the update 🙂
Jeree says
What are the dosages for the Caralluma and Glucomannan?
Joe says
Jeree, I covered this in my review.
Sonia says
Chris- have you considered cutting out the bowl of icecream every night?
OhYeah says
Indeed, when I search for anything related to skinny fiber, everything that pops up is from skinny fiber distributors. I had to wade through 4 pages of results before I found this. They totally flood the net with their own websites and reviews. They alone makes me trust the product less.
Joe says
OhYeah, Glad you found me! Share me with your friends so they can find me too.
IfByYes says
THANK YOU for this. You know, companies like this feed the internet so full of blog posts promoting the product that it can be almost impossible for an unbiased opinion to show up anywhere near the top of search rankings. But you were the first hit. THANKS. Looking up glucomannan.
Joe says
IfByYes, you are welcome! I’m happy you were able to find me easily too! Most skinny fiber reviews I too see are from Skinny Fiber distributors. One dislikes what I’ve said me so much she’s written a whole blog post about me LOL
Susan Mullarney says
Thanks Joe for your thorough and informative reporting. I totally agree with IfByYes on the inability for an unbiased opinion. I am also looking up glucomannan.
Joe says
Susan, I’m happy I was able to help you as well 🙂
Jacqueline M Norton says
How can I get my money back ? I sent it back on time and was told I sent it back wrong . Help , $59.00 plus is a lot to me .
Joe says
Jacqueline, Did you buy through a distributor? what did the distributor say about this? I suggest you list a complaint on the Better Business Bureau website. They will then reach out to the Skinny Fiber company on your behalf. here is the link:
http://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/health-and-medical-products/skinny-body-care-in-salt-lake-city-ut-22303096
Just scroll down to the “file a complaint” link.
I’ve found that companies generally are good at responding when the BBB reaches out to them. Please do let me know what happens.
Lisa says
I’ve tried skinny fibre and it didn’t work at all. In fact the company isn’t even good on their money back guarantee. I found it didn’t reduce my appetite, although I’m not a sneaker and watch what I eat. Perhaps this product is good for ppl who eat poorly to begin with. It was a waste of my money
Joe says
Lisa, sorry Skinny Fiber didn’t work for you. Can you shed more light on your inability to get your money back? What happened?
Madison says
Hi Joe,
I am reading all of these reviews and have just wanted to thank you for not having me waste my money! While I am only wanting to lose about 15 pounds, from these reviews and your work of investigating more into the ingredients of the product, I am thinking that it might be worth my while to only take the konjac root and caralluma…
I know you are not one to push certain weight loss supplements but is there a way I can contact with you to let me know if those would be beneficial for weight loss on their own?
I just want to go the cost effective route and something that has proven to work. I have tried to research the Skinny Fiber product and can not see any real testimonials of people that are not distributors until I came to this website, so thank you for your time!
Joe says
Madison, you are very welcome! I used to rank very high in Google for skinny fiber but it appears that’s no longer the case, so if you could share my review on FB, twitter, Google + etc. I’d appreciate it. I do believe konjac root (also called glucomannan) is the active ingredient in skinny fiber and that stuff is a LOT less expensive too. You can email me via the contact page on my website if you like.
john rutledge says
Thank you for your research. It took some digging to find you to get past the distributors. In my opinion, if all these people would eat sensibly and exercise, and even learn to eat properly using Weightwatchers possibly, they would have life changing results.
Taking a pill without any other changes is bound to set oneself up for rebound weight. We help our bodies and feel fuller with real fiber. Why not learn how to eat correctly, and maybe add that first ingredient as a supplement which can be bought much cheaper ?
Joe says
John, yes, I think have been pretty good at pushing me down in the search results. As long as you found me that’s whats important. Please share my review online so others know I’m out there.
Tina says
Thank you for your review! I though about taking SF but decided back in January to go with Weight Watchers. I’m down over 21 lbs so far and not putting any supplements into my body. Just eating better and learning better choices.
I am amazed at how these people who sell SF almost sound like they are in a cult ! I have a family member who is selling it and everyday I see fattening recipes on her Facebook page with the SF logo on it. Not to mention the before and after photos, a few of which I seen on other weight loss sites. If you want to lose weight change your diet and get movin’. I did!

Tina, thanks and that is amazing to drop 21 pounds since January! Congratulations! 🙂

Hello Joe, Enjoyed reading your well prepared information on Caralluma and Glucomannan Powder and Skinny Fiber. I was considering trying the SF then when I saw the cost it is not in my budget. Decided to figure what was in it and see if I would be able to duplicate it for less. And here I am reading your information.
My husband has had part of his pancreas removed due to pancreas cancer. Whipple Surgery. He was on enzymes prior to this due to the tumor damaging enough of the pancreas it was not producing enough for him. As we understand it the enzymes help him to GAIN weight by helping him digest his food properly. He will be on them forever.
I am ordering the two ingredients above and hoping praying for weight relief. I think for every pound my husband lost I gained five being a stress eater. If this works I will let you know.
Thanks again for your work on this.
Chris
Joe says
Chris, so sorry to hear about your husband. I do hope he finds relief and I will say a prayer today for you as well as I can imagine the stress you are under. Do keep me up to date on how you both are doing.

I ordered SF due to a friend being a distributor and all of the positive reviews I’d read. I took it as directed for 1 week, this resulted in bloating, excessive hunger and horrible mood swings. I stopped taking it for 1 week, then began again. Within hours of taking it began the crankiness. I called to return the product, but was told I couldn’t due to the “return within 30 days for full refund” meaning 30 days from the day you place the order, not the day your receive the product.
I daily see “success stories” on a weight loss support group, most weight loss is very slow compared to good old fashioned calorie counting, which usually results in 2-2.5 lbs/week loss. Most of the success stories post 1 lb/week results, along with how well they’ve been able to stick to their diet and incorporate exercise into their routine. It is my opinion that they are losing weight due to the diet & increased exercise as opposed to the skinny fiber.
I would strongly caution anyone who is considering taking this product to first try to cut calories and increase your exercise instead.
Joe says
Sarah, sorry that happened to you when you took Skinny Fiber. I do appreciate you revealing the details of the 30 day money back guarantee. I didn’t know the 30 days starts the day people order Skinny Fiber.

Good job digging out these facts. Genuinely seems to be an MLM scam. Did you see the article in Atlantic Monthly about Jesse Willms? Another serial scammer. theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/01/the-dark-lord-of-the-internet/355726/
Joe says
Les, that was an interesting read thanks for passing it alone. Ive never heard of Jesse Willms. On another note to the Skinny Fiber distributors reading this, can you let me know when Skinny Fiber will be on The Balancing Act TV show? I’m recording it every day but so far have not seen Skinny Fiber mentioned.
Vicki says
Supposed to be on TV January 22nd.
Joe says
Thanks Vicki 🙂

It is this Wednesday, 7am est.
I would like to make a comment about this feed. I have been following along and understand the skeptics, as I was skeptical too. I am a user of the product and am a product of the product. I took it for a month and didn’t change anything in my eating habits nor did I exercise but I lost fat and inches that I have tried for years to get rid of. I look at it as any daily supplement that supports the body’s health and I know this worked on me and on my husband and a few others I know.
I also know that every body is different and good results can come from any product and program out there if, first, the person follows the program and second if they are patient with their own body’s level of response. Everyone gains and loses at different rates.
Because you want to lose 10 pounds in a month and it doesn’t happen does not mean the product is to blame, especially if the person is bound and determined to continue eating anything and everything they want that got them fat in the first place and then think there is a magical pill that gives them that freedom.
Skinny Fiber is simply a tool to help prepare the body to lose weight. It helps a person to eat less and digest the foods they eat better. It has improved numerous health problems that are a direct result of food intake. But it is NOT nor does it claim to be a cure nor does it claim to make or keep a person lean and healthy if the person does not make an effort to first, use the product correctly and for the length of time their body needs, and second, change their habits so they can maintain a lean healthy body. This is just common sense.
As far as this being a pyramid scam… that is ridiculous. Everything is some sort of pyramid where money trickles down from the top. This is an internet business that a person has to WORK to get results. When you sign up as a distributor, you are an independent owner and have sole responsibility to your success. I am a distributor now because I know it is a good product that can help people. I share my story as proof.
I also know that it might not be for everyone for what ever reason. But that does not make it a bad product. I don’t push Skinny Fiber, I don’t have to. I educate those that want to know more and give support to those that want to make it a successful business. I have gotten to know so many that are successes in both their heath and weight and in creating a weekly income their family needed. If people want to tear that to pieces as something bad then they are very small minded.
One hundred people try a product and decide to sell it. 98 are successful in the product working, 60 of them are successful at making it a business, 20 of them become rich and yet there are 2 that say it is crap. I think I’ll go with the majority, I’m already part of the 98!!
Joe says
Thanks Christine, I’ll be watching. For the record, I’m not tearing down the product (although I do personally question the use of Chá de Bugre for reasons I’ve already listed), just pointing out what its active ingredient probably is. I’m happy that skinny fiber has helped you.

Hi, Joe!
I, too, was a bit skeptical of SF. I left a comment on one of the FB distributor’s pages, but they didn’t even acknowledge it. Just went right on to the other comments that were praising it. That irritated me…a lot. So I started to do some research. Everything I found was all positive reviews. That is, until today. Your review was not biased in any way, which really helped.
What’s funny is that I found your link through another website (somewhat like yours) that recommended the use of SF. I’m glad I found your review and made it all the way to the bottom of the comments. I wasn’t willing to part with that much money for something that I wasn’t sure was going to help me. Your review didn’t bash the product at all.
Just gave some basic info about the ingredients that aren’t found anywhere else. I think I’ll pass on the SF. Thanks for your research!
Joe says
Julie, I’m glad you were able to find me and sorry it took as long as it did. I used to rank high in search engines for skinny fiber reviews but I guess that has changed. As long as you found me, that is what is important. Please copy/paste my review to your friends.
I think I might know which website you found me through. There is a site called “Skinny With Fiber” that has linked to me. The site is said to be run by someone named “Christine” but I noticed that on the contact page of that website it actually says “official site of skinny fiber.” That says to me that the skinnywithfiber.org website is actually skinny body care – the maker of skinny fiber. The contact phone number on the website -(817) 479-9198 – is also the same phone number as skinny body care. Just thought Id pass that along in case anyone saw that other website and was wondering.
Leslie says
Thank you for the objective review.
My personal opinion is that this product is absurdly overpriced, and contains an ingredient that hasn’t been proven to be safe.
I see that a lot of people are losing weight using it, but that’s also because they’re modifying their dietary habits.
A CHEAP way to get plenty of natural, SAFE fiber would be to eat a lot of fresh salads and other veggies and fruits. Then you won’t be hungry enough to over-consume less healthy foods.
Also, the water intake is a huge component. Helps you feel full faster.
It just seems to me that the answers are much simpler and less expensive than this and other companies would like people to believe.
Joe says
Leslie, you are very welcome and thanks for your words.

Hi Joe!
Great research and good job proving an objective review of Skinny Fiber. I have not tried it, but stumbled across it when I was looking to cut more body fat, while building lean muscle mass. When I attempted to research Skinny Fiber, I didn’t find any negative or objective reviews (until yours) but only saw mostly marketing information which made me very suspicious. All of the success stories were people who had a lot of weight to lose, so the smallest tweaks might help them shed a few pounds.
My theory on the non-distributors who are having success with Skinny Fiber met very specific criteria. (1) They had a lot of weight to lose; (2) They modified their diet and started to get some exercise; (3) The appetite suppressants caused them to eat less than they were previously.
In my opinion, it you eat clean 80% of the time and work out (cardio and weight), you will lose wieght. Magic pills are only going to shrink the wallet, not the waist.
Thank you for provide unbiased data to allow people to make an educated decision.

Hey XFitGurl! I’m glad you found my review and I was able to help. I know there are a lot of skinny fiber distributor sites out and not much love for me in the SF community. One distributor essentially took my entire review (without giving me the proper credit I politely asked her to give me) and wrote a corny attempt do discredit my conclusions. Epic fail, as the kids say…
I’d appreciate it if you would share me with your friends as I think I may have one of the few unbiased skinny fiber reviews on the web today.
DMA says
Hi I have been taking SF for 7 weeks now and gave not lost anything yet wanted to know if this is normal ,,Thank You DMA
Joe says
DMA, Here are some thoughts I had as I read your question: I think if skinny fiber is going to work that it has to be coupled with eating fewer calories. Have you been eating less? We eat not just for hunger but also because we are bored, happy, sad, feel peer pressure from others and also because we “feel” we should eat. I say this because if skinny fiber works, its because the fiber might curb appetite, not deal with other things that cause us to over eat. Now, if you have been watching what you eat and have not lost any weight after a week, then Id say write down what you eat and try to calculate the calories in those foods on something like MyFitnessPal.com. Maybe are you are still eating too much? Another idea is to give it another week and see if anything changes.
Kirsten says
The standard dose of Skinny Fiber (x2 at breakfast and x2 at lunch) is geared towards a 2,000 calorie intake. It is difficult to reach and surpass that amount if you’re making even moderate attempts to eat well. It’s definitely not a “eat few calories” situation, unless, of course, OP is eating excess thousands.
With that being said, I was taking Skinny Fiber for four weeks and saw absolutely no change in my appearance. I still have six bottles of the stuff to go through and now that it’s the New Year, I may as well… Going to try refining my diet to include less starches and a lot more lean meats and vegetables. I’ll make it a point to exercise, too!
Joe says
Kristen, yes please do exercise – even a daily walk will help you keep your muscle from atrophying. Remember, muscle cells that are destroyed, dont come back. we can only strengthen the muscle tissue that we have remaining.
Dave says
I started using SkinnyFiber about a month ago, in addition to eating clean and working out. I increased my water intake, took vitamins and ate salads or green veggies with every meal. The result? Increased bowel moments and lots of overall inches lost. I haven’t seen the dramatic weight loss results people are raving about, but I do feel lighter and my clothes are looser.
People need to realize that because we didn’t gain weight overnight, we shouldn’t expect to lose it overnight. The recommended weight loss is 2.5lbs per week. That equates to about 10lbs a month. Again, I didn’t see that loss, but I believe that stemmed from muscle I added through my training sessions.
I’m not going to launch an all-out defense of SkinnyFiber, but I don’t believe it’s anymore dangerous than the FDA-sanctioned weight loss products doctors are all too willing to prescribe. Since I bought three bottles of SkinnyFiber via a special offer, I’m going to give this program 90 Days to work (each bottle is a 30 day supply) and report back.
Kirsten says
I think it’s great that you’re actually giving this product the chance to run its course. So many people I’ve seen discredit this product after only using it for one month when, like you said (and the websites say), it takes much longer to see the real results. There’s a reason for the 90-day challenge, right? 🙂
I’m waiting for my first shipment to arrive and am excited to get started – I took advantage of the Buy 3, Get 3 sale so I’m in this for the long haul (6 months). Reading that you’ve seen a loss of inches makes me very, very happy. I hope to be able to say the same in a month’s time.
Keep up the excellent work!
