Update 9/14/19. What are raspberry ketones and do they work? Well, if you watch the Dr. Oz Show, you may have heard Dr. Oz call raspberry ketones “The #1 miracle in a bottle to burn your fat.” Since he made that bold statement, I've heard that raspberry ketone supplements are sold so fast that vitamin stores can't keep them on the shelves! So, what I'd like to do is review the raspberry ketone research — minus the hype that you have already heard about. Only in this way can you make an informed decision about whether raspberry ketone is right for you. Other names for this supplement include red raspberry ketone, and European red raspberry, as well as the more scientific names Rubus idaeus, Rubus strigosus and Framboise Rouge. I'm telling you these other names because if you just searched for “raspberry ketone” you may not find all of the information available. For this review, I'm pretty much going to stick to just calling it raspberry ketone.
What Are Raspberry Ketones?
Red raspberry ketones are one of many compounds in raspberries and are what gives raspberries their unique smell. Like all things that come from fruits and vegetables, raspberries contain a lot of substances that are healthy —including anthocyanins, vitamin C and beta carotene. As such, raspberry ketones are also antioxidants.
Raspberry ketones also “look” similar to synephrine and capsicum — two ingredients that have been used in many weight loss supplements over the years such as the fat burner promoted by Jillian Michaels. This similarity is likely why scientists considered raspberry ketones as a weight loss agent itself.
Weight loss supplements that contain raspberry ketones include QuickTrim — the Kim Kardashian supplement —and Apidexin. See my reviews on those products for more information.
Ketone trivia. The name ketone is a chemistry term. That's not important. I just thought people might like to know where the word came from. On some websites they spell ketone as “keytone” but this is an incorrect spelling of the word. Again, not important.
Tip. Keep in mind as you read this review that raspberry ketones are not the same thing as ketones that are made when people go on low-carb diets or in people who are diabetic. Those ketones are not the same as raspberry ketones.
Raspberry Ketones And Weight Loss
When Dr. Oz asked his fitness expert, Lisa Lynn (more about her below) on TV, how she found out about the weight loss properties of raspberry ketones, Lisa said “Research research research.” So, I looked up the research on raspberry ketones and this is what I discovered.
In a study published in 2005, titled the Anti Obesity Action of Raspberry Ketone, the supplement was given to mice that were fed a high-fat diet for several weeks. Mice were split into different groups, each getting the same calories but getting different amounts of raspberry ketones (either 0.5%, 1% or 2%).
The diets were about 40% fat in each group. Researchers noted that raspberry ketones — that made up between 1% and 2% of total calories — caused a reduction in body weight and fat buildup in the livers of mice after 10 weeks of use, compared to mice that only were fed a high-fat diet.
Norepinephrine (also called noradrenaline ) is a chemical made in the adrenal glands that act as a neurotransmitter and does many things, one of which includes helping to burn fat. This study also incubated isolated mouse fat cells in norepinephrine along with raspberry ketones to see what would happen.
The researchers observed that the combination of raspberry ketones and norepinephrine caused more fat to leave the fat cells than norepinephrine alone.
This is why Dr. Oz said raspberry ketones cause fat cells to shrink.
I'm telling you this because various websites claim that raspberry ketones increase levels of norepinephrine. However, this study did not show that.
Rather, the researches only showed that raspberry ketones appeared to improve the fat-burning ability of norepinephrine.
This is actually a good thing because too much norepinephrine can be bad. For example norepinephrine can raise blood pressure.
Oddly, this study noted that while a 1% intake of raspberry ketones tended to raise triglyceride levels in the mice, eating it at a concentration of 5% of total calories tended to reduce triglycerides.
These researchers also quoted previous studies noting that raspberry ketones raised metabolic rates—in rats. That's interesting, but where's the proof that raspberry ketones raise metabolism in people?
Bottom Line: This was just a mouse study —and a small study at that! Each group only had 6 mice.
Also, if we really want to be technical, all the mice were male. What about female mice? Would raspberry ketones have the same weight loss effects in female mice —or more importantly —women?
In another study, published in 2010, researchers found that red raspberry ketones inhibited weight gain and improved fat burning in mice that were fed a high-fat diet. Researchers also noted that raspberry ketones increase levels of adiponectin, a hormone made in fat cells.
The Wikipedia page on adiponectin goes into more detail, discussing how the hormone does a variety of things including improving the sensitivity of insulin— (good for diabetics).
Dr. Oz said that Adiponectin was the “hormone that tricks the body into thinking it's thin.”When we put on weight, we reduce the ability of the adiponectin hormone to work.”
Sounds good, but red raspberries have only been shown to reduce adiponectin in mice. What about people? Have raspberry ketone supplements been proven to help people lose weight by raising adiponectin levels? Nope. Not yet.
Tip. There is more evidence that exercise raises adiponectin levels than for raspberry ketones —and exercise has been shown to work in people!
One study from 2013 appeared to show that a supplement – containing raspberry ketones – helped weight loss. But there were several ingredients in that supplement. Also, of the 70 people who originally signed up, only 45 people made it to the end. That's a big drop amount.
There is a study published in 2017 that noted, that raspberry ketones might reduce food intake in mice who were fed a high-fat diet. Again, this is a mouse study.
So, what's the evidence for raspberry ketones and weight loss? It looks like some mouse studies. What about people?
Are Raspberry Ketones Better With Capsaicin?
Capsaicin is found in chili peppers and synephrine is an extract from oranges. Both have been used in weight loss products in the past. Because raspberry ketones “look” like both capsicum and synephrine, I predict that you will see weight loss products that have all three of these ingredients.
But, would they all work better together? I don't know because there is no proof either way. Because of that, I recommend you save your money on weight loss pills that combine (“stack”) capsaicin, synephrine, and raspberry ketones.
Synephrine, in particular, is not without problems. It can raise heart rate and blood pressure which can make it dangerous for a lot of people.
Who Is Lisa Lynn?
Dr. Oz called Lisa Lynn a “fitness expert” on his TV show when he did a segment on this supplement— but who is she? I checked into her background and found her website (LynFit.com) that notes that Lisa Lynn was the personal trainer of Martha Stewart.
Her website does indicate that Lisa holds multiple personal training certifications.
All this is fine but on her website, we see Lisa Lynn also has her own line of supplements (called “Lyn Fit”) She even has a raspberry ketone supplement on her website.
In a previous segment of the Dr. Oz show, Lisa Lynn also extolled the virtues of the metabolism booster/weight loss supplement, Coleus Forskohlii. Lisa has this supplement on her website also.
See the review on Coleus Forskohlii for more information.
Look, I'm sure she's a nice person and a great personal trainer —and I am all for capitalism – but where is all the raspberry ketone research? As far as I see, it's just some mouse studies.
How Much Raspberry Ketones Do You Need?
If raspberry ketones help people lose weight, how much works? Nobody knows because there are no human studies of raspberry ketones and weight loss. If we believe the mouse studies (which I don't), it appears that a concentration of 1% of total calorie intake might help weight loss. If that is correct, then the number of raspberry ketones needed would be different for different calorie intakes.
For example, a person who consumes 1800 calories per day would need less than a person who eats 2000 calories per day.
When asked “how much works” on the Dr. Oz Show, Lisa Lynn said to take 100 mg at breakfast— and if that didn't help, to go to 200 mg. Where did she get these numbers from? She doesn't tell us.
I guessing that this might be the human dose, extrapolated from what researchers gave the lab mice? But, I see no good proof that 100-200 mg of raspberry ketones per day helps people lose weight. It might—but I just don't know.
In this toxicology report on raspberry ketones, the authors mention a dosage of 100-1400 mg per day is often mentioned on the internet. That is a pretty big range, which again, says to me, nobody has any idea.
Raspberry Ketones And Appetite
Various websites make the claim that supplements can reduce appetite. But I see no proof of this. Even the mouse studies, do not state that raspberry ketone supplements suppress appetite.
Anti-Aging Effects Of Raspberry Ketones
Can raspberry ketone supplements slow down the aging process? Do they reduce wrinkles? Well, red raspberry ketones do have some antioxidant effects but it's a long shot to go from that to say that they are “anti-aging.”
Raspberry ketones may be found in some cosmetics because they seem to have a skin whitening effect —at least in skins of mice. That's fine, but I recommend you save your money on raspberry ketone anti-aging supplements. They are not an “anti-aging superfood.”
For those who really want a “superfood,” eat raspberries! Here's why: antioxidants work best in small amounts and when they are eaten in combination with the other ingredients in food. Because of this fact, raspberries are better than raspberry ketone supplements when it comes to being healthy.
Raspberry Ketone Side Effects
In healthy people, raspberry ketones are probably safe. That said, those who are not healthy or take medications should speak to their doctor/pharmacist first. Here are a few things to consider when taking this supplement. This list is not complete.
- Start with less than recommended for the first week
- Pregnant or nursing women should also speak to their doctor
- Stop taking the product at least 2 weeks before having surgery
There are only trace amounts of raspberry ketones in raspberries so they are no the same thing as supplements. This toxicology report states that there is only 4.3 mg per 2.2 pounds of raspberries. Just because raspberries are safe does not mean concentrated supplements of raspberry ketones are also safe.
One of the mouse studies summarized above noted that raspberry ketones raised triglyceride levels. Does this mean they also raise triglycerides and cholesterol levels in people?
Since raspberry ketones appear to have some chemical similarity to synephrine, be careful if you have high blood pressure or heart conditions. Synephrine might raise blood pressure and heart rate.
A report from Denmark publishedhas raised some concerns that the supplement may have toxic potential but there is little human evidence for this.
Some have speculated that these supplements may be inappropriate for those with cancers that are sensitive to estrogen levels. This is based on a concern that raspberry ketones may have estrogen-like properties. Cancers that might be affected by this include breast cancer, fibroids of the uterus, endometrium cancer, and uterine cancer.
In the book Herbs of Choice raspberry leaf is said to help with pregnancy issues such as morning sickness and labor pains. The book also notes (p. 140) that raspberry appears to promote contraction of the uterus. That would not be good for pregnant women. Would the same be true for raspberry ketone supplements? I don't know.
Do these supplements raise blood pressure? I do not know, but if the leaf of raspberries cause the muscles of the uterus to contract, what effect would they have on the muscles of the blood vessels? Would they also contract (and raise blood pressure) or would they relax (and decrease blood pressure)? I don't know.
Remember, some raspberry ketone supplements may contain more than just raspberry ketones. Always check the labels to see what other ingredients a supplement may contain.
See What Weight Loss Supplements Work for a list of things I feel have evidence
Do Raspberry Ketones Work?
The research on raspberry ketones for weight loss is in its infancy. As such, I just don't know if this supplement helps people lose weight or not. The majority of research is a lab rat and lab mice research. Raspberry ketones may benefit in mice but what about humans? I'd like to see a real-life study of of 100 people followed for at least 6 months under real-life (not laboratory) conditions to judge its weight loss power.
If you are still thinking about trying raspberry ketones to help you lose weight, I suggest you go to your doctor and get your blood work done first —cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, liver enzymes, the works—and then get it done again in a couple of months to see if anything has changed.
There are a LOT of websites that sell raspberry ketones. If you read the comments here, you'll see how some people talk about how their credit card was charged more than once after they purchased a product. Know who you deal with. Make sure the raspberry ketone websites you deal with have a contact phone number with customer support people who can help you have questions.
If they are going to work, keep in mind that it might take 6 months before raspberry ketones help you lose weight. Oh, and if you watched the Dr. Oz show, you also heard that you still have to exercise and watch what you eat too. So, you have to eat right and exercise as well as take raspberry ketones. That sounds less like “a miracle in a bottle to burn fat” and more like common sense.
I was toying with the idea of using these supplements. I decided to look for information on side effects and found your website. I’m very glad I found your website because I am recovering from estrogen fed breast cancer and what a possible mess that could have made! Thanks so much for the information, you’re the best!
Hi Joe, I just want to thank you for all the research you did on raspberry ketones. I was 99% sure that based on what I learned from the Dr. Oz show, I could safely take raspberry ketones and take off the couple pounds of weight that I have put on due to peri-menopause. However, prior to ordering them, as usual I like to read reviews by consumers.
I felt drawn to your website. I read the entire article and I am so grateful that I did. I am beyond impressed with the research you did on this subject. In fact, i am in awe. The compassion and concern you show for others is amazing. You even take the time to follow up and respond to people’s comments. You are a blessing. I had been contemplating purchasing raspberry ketones for the past year. Thanks you to you, I have no desire to purchase them. Again, thank you Joe!! Cheryl
Cheryl K, that is VERY kind of you to say! I am really glad you were able to find me and happy that my words were able to help you.
Have a terrific day Cheryl. You made my day better 🙂
Hi! I am fifteen years of age and I recently discovered the Raspberry Ketone supplements. Curious, I ordered a package online to test it out. I am not taking any other drugs or do not have any serious health issues. I’m physically fit and have lots of muscle mass. I want to loose weight and feel good about my self. Is it a good idea to take Raspberry Ketone at my age?
Annie, honestly, I don’t recommend that people of your age take many supplements and I don’t feel weight loss supplements are ever to be used unless you weight so much that your life is in danger (which from you said, you are not in that category)
The issue is that kids (Ill say your a kid since your 15) are not “miniature adults” and so its hard to know for sure if younger people would react the same way that adults do. Supplement companies don’t test their products on kids (or pregnant women) and that’s why there is often a warning on their packages about this.
Several people here have reported that raspberry ketones are making their heart race. This is due to the stimulant properties of raspberry ketones as well as what else might be in the product. Either way, I just don’t like that.
I’d much rather that you eat your biggest meal at lunch (and eat a smaller dinner), and do a little bit more aerobic activity like walking. I think that will be better for in the long run that raspberry ketones.
It’s me again. I find after taking the supplements last night and again this morning that I’m really shaky now and feel nervous and short-tempered and I can’t work very well. So I don’t think I’ll be taking any more. I’ll just have to continue to lose weight the old-fashioned way.
I started taking the raspberry ketone pills and some colon cleansing pills that come with them yesterday (22/1/13). I’ve already been on a modest diet and lost a stone to get down to 9 stone 7 pounds and I only need to lose another half to one stone to get down to an ideal weight for a person just under 5 foot 4 inches.
I’m a 58 year old female and I know the last stone will be difficult and I’ve more of less stopped losing weight and since I can’t eat much less without starving myself, I decided to start to take this supplement. Today I feel a little sick, rather tired, a bit light headed and I think my heart is racing a little.
I hope it’s not doing me any harm but I normally have OK blood pressure, take adequate exercise and I really want to lose this last stone so I’ll carry on taking the month’s supply unless I start to feel really bad.
I am 21 i have just started taking RK i feel like i need to keep busy all the time. I am a really fussy eater i don’t like veg and don’t eat much fruit. so i really don’t know how i can eat healthy i really am sick of being the size i am. i have tried not eating much but then i get depressed. if you have any ideas of how i can lose weight please help
Katherine, Id recommend you set up a meeting with a regestered dietitian. they can look at what you are eating and make some healthy recommendations to help you lose weight. you can find them at their website EatRight.org
Also, check out what Ive written about weight loss supplements
Hi joe, I spoke to you little over a week ago and I just popped on to tell you my progress, I have been doing the same exercise but cutting my calorie intake down, and I have lost 4lbs in a week!! It’s really hard for me to loose weight as I am on a contraceptive jab which doesn’t only make you put on weight, but it is really hard to loose it! I’m so glad I am loosing weight as I am turning 21 in march and I wanted to get back into a size 12! Don’t think I’ll make that size but I might get near enough to it!
Jade, thanks for the update and I will keep my fingers crossed you get to that size 12 by your birthday! Cheerio from the US by the way 🙂
Danni – you need to re-read what I said! I do believe in support…God knows I needed it BUT it is the wrong sort of support that says ‘don’t worry…you carry the weight and don’t LOOK fat’ …we all do have to admit that we are! When you stop facing up to that then you will almost certainly lose the battle …again! You start to accept that this is how you will be for the rest of your life…with a cry of … Oh what the hell…weeks of deprivation…I am back to square one…..I fancy a burger!! Flattering clothes disguise the body but if you are anything like I was…creaking knees, bad back, nearly collapsing with palpitations and sweat if you had to do anything at all strenuous, unable to kneel…etc…the reality is that looking good is not the same as feeling good!
THAT is the hardest thing of all …to own up…bit like an alcoholic standing up in a room of other alcoholics at an AA meeting. By your honest admission you get respect …and it doesn’t lessen the support from the group…it strengthens it. I’m sorry if you think I meant otherwise!
As for the comment from Joe about craving endorphins …that is a medical fact. When you suffer from depression your body tries to put things right. From an early age we learn that nice sweet things dry the tears…remember when mummy gave you a sweetie when you fell over…or when you tried to cheer up a pal (or yourself) with a box of choccies …or a nice cream cake …or a tub of ice cream?
Unfortunately, coupled with our lifestyles …& more importantly the lack of control over children’s diet due to mums having to work full time, this problem of global obesity in affluent nations will increase. Food is not the only source of comfort but it is the cheapest and most readily available…and whatever your size…you MUST eat and drink fluids! Of course we are complex creatures but often the source of our problems are quite simple… that doesn’t mean the cure is simple though!
Positive mental attitude is paramount …get to the root of why you put on weight and you can turn your life around…you need to learn to love yourself again…the you inside …not the shell..it truly is the greatest love of all. Its like a jigsaw…once you’ve done the border you can fit the rest of the pieces! I discovered the point I put weight on…you’d think it would be obvious ..but it wasn’t. I had a row with a student at college who made a dig about my weight..and TOLD him WHY I was fat! Until that point I really hadn’t realized it…I actually shocked him by what I told me ….but believe me …I was more shocked than him!!! 20 years had passed since the event! I don’t say it is the solution to weight loss…but understanding the triggers is key to stopping it happening again…and again…and again!!!
I tried all manner of diets, pills etc and they didn’t work…they do at first …rather like the way placebo’s work…your initial believe is enough to make it work. In its simplest form the equation for weight loss is: Food intake must be less than the energy that the food supplies the body but must be sufficient to suppress the appetite and provide the vitamins and minerals required for your on-going health.
How you achieve that is down to the individual. A diet pill MIGHT help kick start weightloss but we are a long way off miracles. I put on so much weight with failed dieting that I took a radical decision and had a bypass which worked for me. I really do look up to and admire those who can lose weight naturally and keep it off …I simply realised I was never going to do it.
I now have to eat a healthy diet, I cant eat in volume and I exercise a lot otherwise I’d look like a wrinkled prune or a sharpei. No-one goes into doing this willingly …I needed a hiatus hernia repair and it was done at the same time. 18 months later I have shed 10 stone and am now 11st 8lb …still lose a little bit every month or so but I am maintaining a healthy weight for my height (5’8″).
I am 60 years old and wish I had done it years ago as I could have done so much more with my life! I was facing being disabled and needing a wheelchair within the next couple of years, high blood pressure and the possibility of a stroke (family trait)! It absolutely DEFINITELY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE…I can’t stress that enough! Everyone who has bariatric surgery has a different journey to take. Its not anywhere near as easy or as simple as some would like you to believe.
I had the most brilliant bariatric surgeon and full dietician support (I’m in UK). It worked for me but you need to come to grips with what triggered the weight gain in the first instance and you need to be able to cope with a life without sugar, chocolate, crisps etc. I can tolerate these things better 18 months down the line …but I don’t want to…as weight can come back! I have had tremendous support …whatever path you take that is vital! Even bariatric surgery is no miracle …believe me …Its HARD! It can also be dangerous …but the danger of keeping the weight on is greater.
Whatever path you take to weight loss I just hope and pray you all make it. It might sound strange but despite being a size 12/14 I still consider myself to be a fat person….not physically or in an anorexic way but in a kind of kind of understanding way. I laugh when people look at me and tell me that I am lucky…I don’t have to worry about my weight…how wrong they are! I am on a diet for life …literally!
One very last thing …it has taught me one thing …that is … this life is the only one we can be certain of… take the best care of your body. I have to take vitamins and minerals and calcium D3 for the rest of my life and extra protein…don’t just follow a diet …eat sensibly and make sure you take the right supplements…have regular testing at your doctors to ensure you are not just losing weight but are healthy too. These are the REAL VITAL STATISTICS!
Good luck
Hi, thanks for this website, I didn’t see it til after I started taking the capsules. If I had, I would not have tried them. I couldn’t find anything to tell me there was any danger whatsoever. I wasn’t taking anything other than supplements so wasn’t looking at interactions.
Did you see this website, regarding interactions with thyroxine and Crestor? http://www.ehealthme.com/drug-interactions/levothyroxine-and-crestor-and-raspberry-ketone
I took them for 2 months, lost weight and inches at first, regained them while still taking them. I had the flu at the same time, eat low fat regularly, perhaps that is why they seemed to work, stopped working.
I stopped taking them because I would wake up in the middle of the night, terribly thirsty and need to get up to drink, and thirsty thru the day. Also, vivid dreams. These both after starting Crestor.
Thanks again for this unbiased site.
Drea, thanks I did not know about this site. appreciate the heads up!
ok so i ordered my free trail but then after i did it my anxiety was so bad i just quit and i didn’t want no more so they didn’t send me anymore product but – keep taking the money out of my account. i tried calling them but all i get is a busy tone on their line and i called the bank and told them i didnt approve of it and this is the second time they done this to me im not to happy at all about this
Carolyn, Im really sorry this happened to you. when dealing with companies, its always best to use a credit card if possible. never give ANYBODY direct access to your bank account – doing this could let them take anything they wanted from you-directly!
The problem with raspeberry ketones is that since Dr Oz mentioned them – and gave them such high praise – that a lot of “companies” have rose up to try to take advantage of its popularity. Many of these products have slick websites but its anybody can make a website in an hour. For example, here is how I make a website
Yes do tell your bank to stop all future withdrawals from your account from that company -or anybody else that is associated with them. Also file a complaint with the better business bureau here is their website http://www.bbb.org/
What is the name of the company that is doing this so others know about it
its called Flawless Raspberry Ketone
I have had to stop taking the raspberry ketone premium and colon cleanse premium, due to horrendous heartburn and acid reflux, stomach cramps and nausea. Not sure which tablet is causing which, so stopped them both two days ago.
My acid reflux (which i have never had before ) is so painful i have a hot water bottle on my chest. Has anyone else had same effects? And is it the raspberry ketone that is causing the excess acid ?
Donna, Ive never heard this before but if you stop it and the acid reflux goes away its possible raspberry ketones were the cause. Id say stop both products. I don’t think our colons need cleansing at all. here is my take on colon cleanse products
Thank you, I have stopped them both and will see if symptoms go away. I noticed the colon cleanse had guar gum in it, which i read can cause build up in the esophagus if not taken with enough fluids. I am very poor at taking adequate fluids and am now wondering if this has been the cause of my heartburn. I am disappointed as I did notice a decrease in appetite with the ketones. I suppose it is my own fault for looking for an easy option, better get exercising and dieting.
Donna, dont blame yourself. stuff happens. Yes guar gum finds itself into a lot of weight loss and colon cleans products.
I am taking the ketones. I have had a decrease in appetite and as a result have dropped some pounds. My sweet tooth is not as fierce. I have noticed a faster heartbeat and increased anxiety as well as headaches. I don’t know at this point whether the end justifies the mean. I paid a handsome price for the supplements and I want to use them, but I am rethinking this asked on the side effects. The anxiety alone is frightening.
Chrissy, Im guessing your rapid heart rate is due to the fact that raspberry ketones “look” like stimulants. your side effects of headaches and fast heart rate worry me Chrissy. I also dont feel good with what you said about that it makes you frighted either. Based on that I’d stop taking them and try to get your money back. contact the company and ask for a refund.
Firstly Joe Thank you, your website was the reason I ordered Raspberry Ketones PLUS, so many mixed reviews, but the positive are really positive. Like a lot of people have mentioned, it works for some and not for others.
I have received my pills and slim patches today, I have my first patch on and have taken my first tablet, I cannot wait to see the outcome.
I have one negative about this whole thread and that is the comment previous to mine, everyone seems to comfort each other and give great advice and reviews, the above comment I think is out of place and a bit of a mood changer! “you are FAT”, this is a feel good site and I personally do not think that that is the way forward. Just my opinion 🙂
Danni, thanks Im glad you found me and I do hope that RK plus helps you. do keep me posted. As for the negative comment you mentioned I re read it and I understand how you must have felt. I don’t allow others to bash people here but I saw where person had faced her own struggles with weight and while her words were very hard I think she meant well. Sometimes our words don’t adequately express how we feel inside, if that makes sense. I don’t agree with the “craving endorphins” part though as I feel we are more complex than this.
Regardless, I really do hope that RK plus helps you Danni. Remember that its best used with other healthy lifestyle changes. for example, I just talked to a buddy today who lost 25 pounds using the MyFitnessPal app.
hello ,
I live in Canada and just got my bottle of RK from the grocery store will let you know how it goes..I am currently at 220 Lbs and wanting to loose 72 Lbs to reach a healthy weight.I started exercising few weeks ago 4 times (min) a week, it includes Zumba, spinning, and running. Plus i stopped eating junk food and processed foods all together for healthy home made meals . I will definitely keep you updated!
Thanks Ouma! 🙂
There is no miracle pill…the companies bank on people’s desperation to lose weight and buy their products. They often work at first because of change of diet and the fact that you feel ‘upbeat’ at that point….and there’s the clue as to why you are overweight in the first place!
The key is DEPRESSION! It is very evident in the super-obese that trauma, grief, abuse, bullying etc make us crave for endorphins….and we get those from alcohol, drugs (legal and otherwise), exercise ….and of course lovely sweet food! We can avoid alcohol and drugs but we all need food …so that’s the biggest temptation….coupled with lifestyle and help yourself supermarkets…it’s too easy to put on weight! Yo yo dieting, where weight gain follows aborted dieting, just adds to the grief.
As my dietician told me, over 2 stone you will be incredibly lucky to keep it off unless you exercise and change your eating habits for good! If you are grossly overweight then weight loss surgery is probably your only hope of losing weight and maintaining it…and even that is not a miracle cure and definitely NOT an easy option….you still have to work at it but it does force you into some permanent dietary changes.
If you go down that route you need to have counseling first but don’t feel like a failure for doing it…desperate, yes….but it can be a dramatic but sensible option. The dangers of being VERY overweight far outweigh the dangers of surgery…but it is traumatic (not all bariatric surgery is invasive eg endo- barrier or balloon but they are only temporary and you may put weight on when they are removed!)
Exercise is the key…we don’t do enough. If you want to REALLY exercise the weight off (in conjunction with healthy diet) don’t head for the gym…you’ll only get bored…get to your local pool…take AQUAFIT or AQUARUNNING classes! There’s no stress to joints, you’re virtually weightless below the water line (Archimedes Principle!) and exercise against the resistance of the water burns of about 3 times what you’d lose in the same time in the gym…and with the water cooling you down as you do your aerobic, stretching and strengthening exercise….you wont even break out into a sweat!
Never mind what you look like in a swimming costume, wrap yourself in a big bath towel to and from the pool….no-one can see you in the water!!! Aqua running is the most hectic….you wear a buoyancy belt in the deep end (anchored to a lane rope) or you can run up and down the shallow end if they don’t have a class….forget swimming…this is REAL WORKOUT! Guys think this is mambo pamby girl stuff….they should try it…they’ll soon eat their words!
Like I said, ignore ‘Lose Weight Fast’ pills….it might be a reality one day but not yet….recognise the triggers that make you reach for comfort foods ….try cutting down and replacing bad foods with healthier ones …..and head for your local swimming pool! And 2 last tips….buy a good pair of walking shoes/boots, warm coat ……and a ‘granny’ shopping trolley….you can then dump the car, shop locally (prices often higher but makes you think before you buy ‘luxuries’) and have a brisk walk back home…with shopping in tow!
Lastly, don’t lie to yourself or to friends …you’re not big boned, well built, clothes are not skimpily cut etc….you are FAT….mirrors show you what you WANT to see….if we all confronted our demons whilst we were just a bit overweight we would all be a healthy weight and not a statistic in a Western epidemic of obesity!
I learned this the hard way!
Anything that is produced chemically is not good for human,
whatever is the product. At the end for the them they want only to sell and make business. “When money talks the reason is silent”
preferably go with natural ingredients and you will be always on the safe side. When you play with nature definitely you get bad result.
I just wanted to post that I have been taking them since Friday. Two a day and I have lost 3 lbs so far. I will celebrate when I lose 10..then I will know that I am not just losing my usual 5 lbs. But I do want to add that they do give me a natural energy and I feel great all day. I am even feeling less agitated.
Hi Joe. After reading an article from Well Woman I ordered Raspberry ketone premium and colon cleanser free trial. Ive read many reviews also all the comments and reviews on ur blog. Im glad to see that there a lot of positive reviews so I remain hopeful. I’ll let you know if they work for me. I expect everyone reacts differently. Keep up the good work Joe…
Thanks Nicola, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
WOW that’s sooo interesting that there’s been NO studies done in humans, only mice. I like to do my research and while looking into the raspberry rave when I found this.
Does anyone know how much money the OZ show may possibly get from promoting this miracle in a bottle???? Call me a skeptic, but I have learned that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
The one thing all weight loss metabolism boosters have in common is the line…
“to be used in conjunction with a calorie controlled diet and exercise”
There’s the miracle.
Mel, glad you found me! I don’t think Dr Oz makes any money directly from the supplements he recommends but I’m not sure. I don’t have any inside information about how the TV show works. I really want to believe his heart is in the right place and that “his people” who research these things for him are just not equipped to analyze the research properly.
Hi joe. Which rk would u suggest is the best and most effective? And where can I purchase it? Thank you.
Sara, I have no information about what is the best raspberry ketone supplement. As such I cant recommend any brand. Sorry I couldn’t be any help.
