Healthy Gut. Slimmer You. Those words are used to describe Plexus Slim, a very popular weight loss and blood sugar lowering supplement. It's been several years since I first reviewed Plexus Slim (The Pink Drink). In that time, the ingredients have changed a bit. In this Plexus Slim review, I'll compare the ingredients in the original formula to what it contains now and also review the science on its ingredients. Along the way, I'll decipher its key ingredients, and try to shed light on side effects too. I don't work for any supplement company so this is not an Ambassador review. Let's see if Plexus Slim is right for you. For additional info, see the original plexus Slim review and the reviews of Plexus Accelerator Plus, Plexus Boost and Plexus ProBio5 Joyome anti-wrinkle cream and Plexus Hunger Control
Plexus Slim Benefits
The Plexus website states the supplement works by providing the following benefits:
- Clinically demonstrated to help you lose weight*
- Promotes the growth of good gut microbes◊*
- Increases Lactobacillus by 365 times and Bifidobacterium by 290 times – contributing to overall health◊*
- Increases the metabolism-enhancing Akkermansia microbes by 250 times◊*
- Supports healthy glucose metabolism*
- Clinically studied XOS prebiotic
- Patent-pending formula
These are pretty interesting benefits but the * and ◊ next to some of the claims direct our attention to the bottom of the page where it says
- *“These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.”
- ♢ “The results of an in vitro human gut simulator study suggest that Slim’s formula may have several beneficial effects. Further research, including research conducted in humans, is needed to confirm these preliminary findings.” Basically, they are saying there's no human evidence for these claims.
What's Different In The New Formula
Let's now compare the original Plexus formula (from 2013) to the current ingredients:
Plexus Slim Original Ingredients | Plexus Slim Current Ingredients |
Chlorogenic acid | Chromium |
Citrin K | Xylooligosaccharide |
Alpha-lipoic acid | Green coffee bean extract |
Oxypregnane steroidal glycoside | Garcinia Cambogia |
Chromium (amino nicotinate GTF) | Alpha-lipoic acid |
Mulberry fruit extract |
Comparing the original ingredients old and current ingredients, we see a few differences
1. Chromium has moved positions. It used to be the last ingredient in the proprietary blend. It appears at the very top of the ingredients list.
This may mean the new Plexus Slim formula has more chromium than it originally had. They also now tell us how much chromium Plexus Slim contains (200 micrograms). See the review of chromium and weight loss.
2. Both the old and new formula contain chromium nicotinate. This is a complex of both chromium and niacin. Chromium is often touted for its ability to help reduce blood sugar levels and while there is some evidence of this, not all studies find it works. For example, in this 2013 study chromium nicotinate did not help people with type 2 diabetes.
3. The ingredient originally called “citrin K” is now called by its more familiar name, garcinia cambogia. See the Garcinia Cambogia review.
4. The current ingredients now contain Xylooligosaccharide, green coffee bean, and Mulberry fruit extract.
5. Grape skin extract used to be in Plexus but no longer. I'm not sure if this makes a significant difference or not in how effective Plexus Slim might be. I was told (unconfirmed reports) this was because people were having allergic reactions to this ingredient.
Summary: Changes To New Formula
- Chromium is the first ingredient listed
- We are told how much chromium is in the new formula
- Added: Xylooligosaccharide, green coffee bean, and Mulberry fruit extract
- Grape skin extract is removed
- Hoodia is removed from the formula
- Garcinia cambogia now called by its more familiar name
Question for Ambassadors: why were grape seed extract and hoodia removed from plexus slim?
Plexus Slim Research
Clinical research specifically on Plexus Slim cannot be located. Neither the Plexus website, National Library of Medicine or ClinicalTrials.gov reveal any clinical studies. Some Plexus Ambassadors may cite research but those studies do not appear to be peer reviewed in medical journals. As such, I discount as being less clinically relevant as we cannot see the entire study and how it was conducted.
Plexus Slim Ingredients
Let's now summarize the of research for the main ingredients in the Pink Drink and see what the science says.
Chromium
The chromium in Plexus chromium polynicotinate. This is basically a form of chromium thought to be better absorbed. Each packet provides 200 micrograms of this mineral. Chromium is probably in this supplement to help reduce blood sugar levels. This makes sense. But, when it comes to weight loss, chromium is a dud. The vast majority of studies since the 1990s show chromium does not work
See the Chromium weight loss review for the evidence.
Xylooligosaccharide
Xylooligosaccharide (also called XOS) is basically long chains of the xylose sugar stuck together. Xylose is often used as a prebiotic. Prebiotics are the food probiotic bacteria eat. Xylose may be used as a way to bolster production of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.
When it comes to gut health, the diversity of gut bacteria is important. the more different bacteria, the healthier experts say we are. Two ways to improve gut bacteria diversity is eating more fruits/vegetables and exercise.
Plexus Slim Blend (531 mg)
When it comes to Blends, companies do not have to tell us how much of each ingredient makes up the blend. But we know the first ingredient makes up the most of the blend, while the last ingredient listed makes up the least.
Each packet of plexus slim provides 531 mg of the following ingredients:
1. Green Coffee Bean Extract
Green coffee also goes by the name coffae robusta. Its active ingredient is often said to be an antioxidant called chlorogenic acid. The Plexus Slim label tells us each packet contains 50% chlorogenic acid. Green coffee is popular for weight loss but I remain skeptical.
The favorable research studies are small and there are not many of them. Also, the studies showing it works have used a supplement called Svetol which is not in Plexus Slim.
What makes green coffee controversial is one of the very best weight loss investigations was retracted after it was found to contain serious errors.
This is why green coffee remains a weight loss scam in my book until unbiased and well-designed studies are published.
2. Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia, also known as hydroxy citric acid (HCA) is a popular weight loss supplement. When I did a deep dive into the garcina / weight loss research, I concluded it was at best a 50/50 shot at whether it worked or not. I saw just as many clinical studies showing it worked as didn't work.
Many of the studies though were small and had problems with how they were performed. As such, I don't believe anyone can say for sure if it's an effective weight loss aid.
And then there's the big controversy: Does garcinia cambogia cause liver failure? While I feel the risk is low, there is some evidence it might. While in many such reports, people were taking supplements containing many ingredients, we now have a report of liver failure in someone who only took garcinia cambogia. There is no reports of Plexus Slim causing liver problems or elevating liver enzymes.
See the Supplements and Liver Failure review.
3. Alpha Lipoic Acid
Plexus slim is touted to promote healthy glucose metabolism. Alapha lipoic acid is an ingredient which seems to do this. Multiple studies have shown Alpha Lipoic acid can improve the ability of insulin at reducing blood sugar levels. Amounts used in research are usually around 300 mg per day taken for several weeks. While we are not told how much alpha lipoic acid is in the Pink Drink, it's possible it may have close to this amount.
There is also some evidence alpha lipoic acid may help weight loss. Studies tend to use over 600-1000 mg. This is more than is in Plexus Slim.
Here's alpha lipoic acid on Amazon
4. Mulberry Fruit Extract
There are 2 types of mulberry – black and white. Plexus Slim uses white mulberry (Morus alba). Some evidence shows mulberry can reduce blood sugar levels in people with type II diabetes. Some studies use 1000 mg to 5000 mg a day to achieve this effect. Mulberry is also an antioxidant. Some evidence suggest it reduces free radical damage to insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.
Because it's a food, mulberry likely has many active compounds which probably have multiple effects other than just blood sugar lowering.
Blood Sugar Lowering Ingredients
Here is a quick review of the ingredients in Plexus Slim which lower blood sugar
- Chromium
- Alpha-lipoic acid
- White mulberry
See above for specifics on each
Weight Loss Ingredients
Here's a quick review of the ingredients in Plexus Slim which might help weight loss
- Garcinia cambogia
Note. my own opinion is garcinia cambogia doesn't work but there are some studies saying I'm wrong. Im not listing green coffee bean until I see better quality studies on it.
What's The Key Ingredient
There is not just one active ingredient in Plexus Slim. Different ingredients do different things. Its worth noting many of the ingredients are likelly present because of their effects on lowering blood sugar levels. However, reduced blood sugar does not necessarily mean weight loss. When it comes to weight loss, I believe results will vary.
Where To Buy
So where can people buy Plexus Slim? Because the company has a multi-level marketing (MLM) component to it, it's sold in stores like Walmart, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Costco, Target, CVS, Walgreens, korger, Food Lion or RiteAid.
Rather, it can be purchased either from a Plexus Ambassador or directly from PlexusWorldWide.com, the official company website. When ordering Plexus the website, you first have to create an account. When you do, you don't have to provide information on the Plexus ambassador you heard about it from.
I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Because one does not have to provide details on ambassadors means the Plexus website is in competition with Plexus ambassadors for sales. To become a Plexus Ambassador, it costs $34.95 paid annually.
If you are using a Plexus ambassador, you can provide either their phone number or Plexus ID. If you do, then the ambassador will receive credit for your order – using an Ambassador does not add to the price of Plexus Slim.

How Many Calories?
Each packet of Plexus Slim has 5 calories. This is an insignificant amount.
Plexus Slim And Gut Health
When Plexus Slim first came out, it was touted for weight loss. The idea of gut health is an evolution of not only the marketing but also the ingredients in the supplement. With the incorporation of the prebiotic, Xylooligosaccharide (XOS), the idea is now Plexus Slim is supposed to help weight loss by altering the composition of the microbiome (that is, better gut health).
While I'm sure XOS will alter the contents of the microbiome in some way, I don't know what effects this would lead to. Would it lead to better health? Would it mean weight loss would occur? I can't say although no clinical studies linking xylooligosaccharide to weight loss in humans could be located when this review was created.
While anything is possible, until Plexus-gut health studies are published, it's hard to know for sure what the benefits might be. It's worth remembering that eating fruits and veggies and exercise have been shown to improve gut health rather quickly.
Does It Have Caffeine?
Plexus Slim is probably pretty low in caffeine. The label says it has 2% natural caffeine. The caffeine probalby comes from the green coffee bean.
Is It Gluten Free?
Yes. Plexus Slim is gluten-free, vegan and non-GMO.
Is Plexus Slim FDA Approved?
The Food and Drug Administration does not approve supplements in the US. There is a law which regulates supplements (DSHEA) but it's often criticized for a number of reasons.
In 2014 PlexusWorldWide did receive a warning letter from the FDA over the language used to describe the benefits of their products Fast Relief ProBio 5 and BioCleanse. Basically the FDA believed the company made statements it should not have made. This sometimes happens with companies. When the FDA sees statements it disagrees with, it reaches out to companies and asks them to change their wording.
See the ProBio 5 Review for more on that supplement.
Plexus Slim Controversies
In 2013 the Australia government's Therapeutic Goods Administration (their FDA) noted Plexus Accelerator 3 day pack contained a banned ingredient called DMAA, which is a stimulant. See the Plexus Accelerator Plus review for more information.
In 2014, the Canadian government also called attention to DMAA as well.
DMAA is no longer found in Plexus supplements.
Is Plexus Doctor Recommended?
I've heard ambassadors say its recommended by medical doctors (MDs/ DOs) but I don't think I've ever encountered a physician who recommended it. That's not to say none do, but I've not met any. My original review has over 2400 testimonials and comments. I don't anyone leaving a comment was a doctor.
If you look at the comments there, you will see some nurses advocating Plexus. Some of them are also Ambassitors which some may say makes them biased. I won't make that call. I'll simply, say I prefer supplements with clinical evidence.
I can understand the challenges faced by doctors who try to get patients to lose weight and blood sugar. It's quite possible some may be OK with a patient trying Plexus Slim for a month or so to see what happens. I'm sure anything which motivates patients is welcomed.
I welcome any physician to leave a comment below about their experiences with this product (positive or not)
Plexus Ambassadors
Plexus Ambassitors (distributors) are those who sell Plexus supplements. These are often people who had a good experience and want to help others. Sometimes they may be people lured into the business with thoughts of making a lot of money.
An advantage going through an Ambassador is they may be able to offer personalized guidance with how to use the products. While I like this, Plexus Ambassadors may or may not have any nutrition background like college degrees or nutrition certifications. So, if you have a medical issue, the guidance you receive will often not be the same as from a doctor, pharmacist or dietitian.
If people have side effects, the solution is to not take another plexus supplement (or any supplement). The correct response -depending on the severity – is to stop taking the supplement and see if the symptoms improve. For very bad side effects, seeing a doctor is in order.
I bring this up not to slam Plexus Ambassitors but rather to help them better deal with side effects that people may bring up from time to time.
Plexus Slim Didn't Work
If you read the comments below, you'll notice some people saying the new Plexus formula does not work the same way as the old formula. Interestingly, when people report to their ambassadors that Plexus Slim didn't work for them, it appears some blame the person. I'm sure not all Ambassadors do this, but if the comments below are believed, some appear to.
I think that's the wrong way of doing this. I also believe its wrong to try to get people to experiment with another product like the Plexus probiotic supplement. (click to read review). That's my 2 cents. Take it for what it is.
Plexus Slim Research
Plexus Ambassadors often mention the supplement was originally was studied ―not for weight loss―but rather for its effects on reducing blood sugar. As proof of this, they cite a clinical trial done on 8 people with type 2 diabetes conducted between June and October 2008.
While the study does not appear to be peer reviewed, it does seem to show that people taking plexus slim had reduced blood sugar and body weight. When looking at the summary of this trial on the PS website, a few things occurred to me:
1. The study refers to these 8 people as “patients.” This makes me wonder if the people were confined to a hospital or clinic? If yes, this is not a real life test of plexus because most people won't be monitored for food intake the way people in hospitals /clinics might be. If anyone can address this question, I'd appreciate it.
2. The study only had 8 people. That’s not a lot of people.
3. The study doesn’t seem to be peer reviewed / published in a medical journal
4. The clinical study used the original plexus slim formula. Since the formula ingredients have been tweaked a bit since its inception, it's hard to know if the results would be relevant to the new formula.
Regardless as to whether the product was originally studied for its effects on blood sugar, there is no doubt that Plexus Slim is marked mostly for weight loss. As proof, the product website used to say this:
” Having trouble losing weight and keeping it off? You're not alone. But don't worry! Finally there is an all-natural, healthy solution to help you lose weight for the long term.”
Notice, there is no mention of blood sugar, only weight loss. In fact, on the benefits section above, notice “Clinically demonstrated to help you lose weight” is the #1 item listed. That said, if plexus slim helps weight loss (by getting people to eat less calories), then I'd expect blood sugar to be reduced also.
Who Makes Plexus Slim?
The company is called Plexus Worldwide, LLC. The address listed with the Better Business Bureau is 9145 E Pima Center Pkwy Scottsdale, AZ 85258-4627. An online search of this address reveals a corporate center. The former address of the company was 7440 E. Karen Dr. #400, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. The BBB states the business was started on Jan 1 2008.
The BBB gave Plexus World Wide a rating of “A+” when this review was created. This was interesting considering 63% of the reviews were negative. My guess is this high rating is based on the company responding to complaints filed with the BBB. See the BBB file for updates and more information.
There were no SiteJabber reviews for the company when this review was created. See the SiteJabber file for updates.

Plexus Slim Side Effects
In healthy people, I think this Plexus Slim is safe in the majorly of people who use this supplement. While there are many positive and negative online reviews, I believe in most people, there are no real dangers, espeically for those who are basically healthy. That said, here are some things to consider for those who may not be “healthy.” This list is not complete:
- Start with less than is recommended for the first seek to see how you react
- Stop taking plexus slim at least 2 weeks before having surgery
- Speak to your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Speak to your pharmacist/ doctor if you take any prescription mediation
- Not intended for people under age 18
- Since it has some caffeine, don't take close to bedtime
- Plexus Slim may reduce blood sugar levels. This may be an issue for some diabetes
- Some reports link garcinia cambogia to liver problems and elevated liver enzymes
- Green coffee extract may reduce blood pressure
- Xylooligosaccharide (XOS) may have a laxative effect in high doses (4grams)
Chromium may reduce thyroid hormone levels when taken at the same time. Separate taking them by at least an hour to reduce this from occurring.
Some evidence suggests chromium may lead to kidney problems. But I think this is rare. I had to search back to 1998 to find a report I felt was relevant. To be safe, speak to your doctor if you have kidney problems before taking chromium supplements.
Some research suggests chlorogenic acid (an ingredient in green coffee) may raise homocysteine. High homocysteine levels are controversial as they may be linked to heart disease. See your doctor if your homocysteine is high for personalized recommendations on this matter.
Leave a comment below if you experienced anything I did not list here.

Does Plexus Slim Work?
I didn't try Plexus Slim and I don't personally know anyone who has tried it. I can only go by the research. Because of its ingredients, I'm fairly sure it will reduce blood sugar levels in some people. But as for weight loss, let's just say results will vary.
V says
So, a rep sent me this….. it states 175 were studied. I mentioned what u said… only 8 people were studied.. for what it is worth…
I won’t take it because there are things in there that r VERY bad for my thyroid..hyper….like the caffeine.
But, was wondering what u thought about this study? thanks… file:///C:/Users/Veronica/Documents/Videos/Music/Downloads/study.pdf
Joe says
Hi V, that link wont work when I tried it. when I see “C” in the URL it makes me think its a link to her computer. Do you have another link? Thanks for your service in the US Military 🙂
Pete says
V, thanks for your service to this great nation. V, there was a study on PS performed some time ago, eight subjects, but was on the very first PS, and would not hold water. Are you referring to it, or the supposedly new study done recently?
Michael says
So now there is a “new, new” Plexus Slim and the ambassadors are out there making even wilder claims. Examples:
“Clinically demonstrated to help you lose weight” – (I thought it wasn’t about the weight loss)
“Increases metabolism even more than before”
“Clinical studies”
“100 Published studies and proven results”
“Now with prebiotics that have been clinically tested and proven to dramatically increase serotonin, gaba, and dopamine levels.”
“Clinically tested and proven to also improve fat loss like never before.”
There was even an ambassador who claimed that the top producer (the crazy one from McKinney) had lost 25 pounds on this product. I guess she was a guinea pig of sorts for Plexus. What the ambassador didn’t tell people is that this crazy lady has a personal trainer she pays untold costs for, she is on a very restrictive diet, and looks like she is one step away from being anorexic. She basically represented this poison as the way to drop weight like never before. All the ambassadors are pushing this stuff with the warning that summer (read – bathing suit time) is just around the corner.
This follows every MLM practice known to us all. They have to roll out a new product to generate interest. Make wild claims that will draw in more rubes who will part with their money. Never mind that there have never been any clinical studies of this stuff. They just pull the same crap time after time.
Joe says
Michael, thanks for the heads up I didn’t know. I took a look at their site and they mention that they conducted an “in vitro study” but they mention 175 volunteers. If they used people, I’d think that would make it an “in-vivo” study not in-vitro.
Michael says
We may never know as Plexus refuses to accurately disclose anything they do. If done “In-Vitro”, that means these “volunteers” donated tissue or other samples for Plexus to conduct experiments on, which means there should be test results for all to see. It begs the question if they conducted their study using the scientific method at all. I wonder if these volunteers ambassadors or just random test subjects?
Regardless, it is a shame that they simply “reformulate” a product that they previously claim was the best product ever and allow ambassadors to make unfounded claims. The push now by these FB legions is “if you were hesitant to jump on the Plexus wagon, now is the time to jump on.”
Lola Smith says
This is what one of my acquaintances who is an “ambassador” just posted on her FB about the new formula.
Weight loss is awesome, but for those with autoimmune disorders this has the potential to take your health even further. Check out what this XOS ingredient does:
When adding this ingredient it activated:
?Lactobacillus by 300 times
?Bifidobacterium by 290 times
?Akkermansia by 250 times (increases your metabolism!!!)
?Butyrate (many people with autoimmune issues are taking taking butyrate!) by 58%!
The new Slim feeds GOOD Microbes! THIS could make all the difference in the world for those with autoimmune disorders!!!
Michael says
Nothing like fake promises of curing autoimmune disorders. Wonder if the FDA would be interested in such claims?
Martha Rouse says
Reviewer: you didn’t include the main change in Slim which is the addition of a prebiotic, XOS! The other ingredients aren’t the big deal! It’s the prebiotic.
The clinical trials are available for the asking at the corporate headquarters. I asked and I also asked about other companies’ evidence of trials and got those, as well.
Joe says
Hi Martha, thank you for telling me this and since it was brought up, I must ask the question. Why has the plexus slim formula changed again? Why do they keep changing the formula?
Prebiotic is just a fancy name for fiber.
Pete says
Folks
Forget the statement told by PS, and other MLMers, “Now is the time to jump on, if you have not already.” Sorry folks for those beyond the 2nd level or so, the train has already left the station! Less than 1% will make any significant dollars, new formulated products, or not. Yes, there are deceptions in PS products, but real deception is in it’s marketing design.
Lola Smith says
Martha- Plexus should not have to give you the copy of their study if it is legitimate. It should be published in reputable scientific journals. The fact that the only way to get it is from them, shows that it is not a real independent, randomized, peer reviewed, placebo controlled study. If they honestly had amazing results from their study they would be submitting it for publication and anyone would have access to it.
Michael says
If memory serves me correct, that “study” basically showed that while on Plexus products, the most anyone could expect to lose is .75 of a pound per week. Color me unsurprised that another Plexus shill is in here following marching orders of her upline and trying to tout this garbage. A Silver Ambassador with a FB page littered with Plexus propaganda.
Pete says
Joe
Martha is just another ambassador without proper information, or too dumb to answer your simple question, “why do they keep changing the formula of PS.” They are batting 1000 in engaging you in a conversation. I would, and I’m sure others would love to hear the answer.
So, Martha, if you don’t know the answer, take a shot at getting one from your supposedly bright upline.
Pete says
Joe
Thought this may be of interest to you and others pertaining to the new PS
Joe says
Pete, thanks I have not seen that video before. Appreciate it.
Michael says
2 minutes into that video, I had to stop it. Clearly, this woman is reading some canned information given to her at an Ambassador meeting and she really has no idea of what she’s talking about.
Pete says
Joe
Here is an AD on the new PS I picked up off one of the Ambassador’s web page.
https://plexusslim.com/
Pete says
Michael
The lady in the video is supposedly some sort of nutritional expert. Hard to believe isn’t it? Keep in mind, she has used the product for a full two months. lol
Michael says
Makes you wonder if she is signed up to be an Ambassador?
Kathy Lipin says
I just completed a 7-day Slim trial.
Yes, I craved even more water than usual, and yet felt somehow dehydrated at the end of the day – that didn’t feel right to me. Before the trial, I was accustomed to having 64 oz. of water a day, and the trial leaders said, “Oh, no! you must have the number of ounces of water equal to half your body weight, at least!” Well, I exceeded even their suggestion and still felt dehydrated.
On the plus side,
1) I could detect a big drop in inflammation in my sinus cavities.
2) I did not have any interest in having pretzels, or alcohol, or ice cream.
On the negative side,
1) I felt wired every day, wide awake at 3 a.m.
2) I also tried XFactor, their multi-vitamin (for which Plexus considers 1000 mg of Vitamin D to be a “normal” supplement amount for anyone), and I ended up so constipated that I ate 9 prunes and 3 dried apricots to force the issue (and that worked). The Plexus recommendation: you need the Magnesium in Bio Cleanse…
During the week, many people gave testimonials, and it appears that those people indeed had issues that regular medicine had not resolved, but their Plexus journey had. In my case, I already had a fairly healthy diet, and my body responds in a normal way to healthy diet and exercise, so nothing impressed me that I had to take the leap with Plexus. I took this week also to remove the inflammatory foods I knew to address. It felt good. But Plexus didn’t train me about healthy diet, I had already learned that before this trial.
Today I found this article. I followed the link to the Better Business Bureau and read FDA WL # 28-14…
I offered my leftover Slim to my sponsor. I will finish the XFactor, but instead of adding Bio Cleanse (especially after reading FDA WL # 28-14), I will augment the XFactor with roasted almonds and red kidney beans for additional magnesium.
My doctor actually wants me to take Vitamin D 1000 units, but that is because my labs showed a need for it; I can’t imagine people with normal levels of Vitamin D needing 1000 additional units. It is dangerous to get too much Vitamin D!
Joe says
Hi Kathy, thanks for sharing your experiences with those products.
Elizabeth says
That FDA letter is referring to wording on the product. Which has since been removed. These products help those but they can’t have it on the bottle.
Michael says
Elizabeth writes:
“These products help those but they can’t have it on the bottle.”
Have you ever stopped to think why they can’t have it on the bottle? Perhaps because there is no factual information to confirm the wild claims that ambassadors such as yourself will make in order to sell this junk?
Plexus (via their ambassadors) has made some of the most insane claims about their products. All of these fat people line up to hear testimonials about how this product is the answer to their weight loss problems. Then when they don’t lose weight, they’re told “it’s not about the weight loss” along with the sales pitch to take a cocktail of unregulated supplements that falsely promise to cure other issues.
Robyn says
I bought a one month supply of plexus products including plexus slim. At this point I was going to the gym about 3 times a week doing weights at a pretty decent pace. I didn’t eat great but it wasn’t horrible either. I gained weight so rapidly with these products that I was back at pre “I need to loose weight” stage. I didn’t even finish the full months worth of supplies.
Michael says
You should contact the person who sold you the stuff and ask them what to do. My money is on them telling you that you’re “detoxing” and that you also need to buy 1 or more of their other products as they work as a “synergistic blend”. I.E. – buy more stuff. Have fun with ambassadors and watch them parrot the garbage their uplines tell them.
Jessica says
Sandy, I want to start off by saying that I do not think you are full of crap I believe every word you just stated! I also want to state that my comment is not to disagree with you and how the PS product made you feel!!
I also want to state, though, that I do not disagree with people who think the PS product works for them!!
Nobody has the same exact body and same exact issues going on with their bodies, at the same time. Bottom line- I think the PS product may work for some people, but the PS product also, may hinder and hurt some people too! The same as with any drug, supplement, food, or anything else that we put into our bodies!!
My aunt has been an ambassador for the PS products for over a year now and she has talked wonders about it!! She has indeed lost weight and has actually taking herself off of her blood pressure medicines (something I strongly disagree with anyone doing)!! After seeing how much happier she is & how much more energy she has & after hearing how the PS products have changed her life for the better, I decided a couple of weeks ago to finally give these products a try & possibly become a seller myself.
The very same day that I first took Plexus Slim drink, I got a splitting headache that didn’t go away I got very nauseous, bloated, irritable, & felt jittery. I also felt like I had some sort of brain fog.. the next morning after waking up, I still had the Terrible brain fog and splitting dull migraine & had flu-like symptoms- My back, neck & legs were in excruciating pain!!
I told my Dad that I thought the Plexus products were causing all of those symptoms and he said that I haven’t taken it long enough to really know anything & that I needed to continue taking it because the symptoms I was experiencing was just common reactions to my body’s way of releasing all of the bad toxins and chemicals in my body!!
I listened to him because he has studied vitamins and minerals for well over 20 year now. Also, he does not take, nor does he sell plexus products.. so the next day I continued with the Plexus Slim products- getting the same results as 2 days before, except worse. I managed with them as best as I could until finally, I stopped again, after the 3rd day back on It..
Needless to say, plexus products do not work for me and I will not be taking it again, nor will I be selling it to anyone!!
All I can say is if the plexus products work for you and make you feel better, more energized, and happier, then by all means keep at it. but if you are like me and they work against you, please stop the product immediately.
Michael says
“just common reactions to my body’s way of releasing all of the bad toxins and chemicals in my body!!”
Jessica, I’m not slamming you or your dad but that myth about toxins & chemicals being released into the body or even “detoxing” has no truth to it whatsoever. Our bodies do not secretly store toxins and chemicals.
Everything we ingest is broken down into nutrients, which pass into our bloodstream. That same bloodstream passes through the liver, which is our body’s natural filter. If it’s something our body can use, it is absorbed.
If it’s something toxic, it’s passed through excretions (urine, feces, sweat, etc.) These commercials and supposed tales of “pounds of sludge” in a person’s intestine is also a lie.
Ambassadors with Plexus rely on ignorance of the customer to scare them into taking their products, which they will claim solves deficiencies or miraculously cures ailments of all sorts. The simple fact is that the chemicals in Plexus are simply being passed through the body, making the liver work triple-time. They may claim to feel wonderful now (this is normal when you’re hopped up on stimulants and other chemicals) but your body is not meant to have chemicals introduced into it without penalty.
Me says
When Candida dies it secrets a toxin
Joe says
Me, can you tell us what the toxin is?
Michael says
Heck no, she can’t. That’s just a line parroted by an upline that she’s bought. I’m looking right now at a FB post by an ambassador who shows copies of mailers that she’s sending out to people. It is amazing how they make all these claims – and every single one has an asterisk beside it. The disclaimer being that the statements have not been evaluated by the FDA, etc. They are as follows:
Supports weight loss
Supports healthy glucose metabolism
Promotes healthy gut flora
Helps maintain a healthy immune system
Improves gastrointestinal health
Helps remove harmful microbes and substances
Helps relieve gas, bloating and discomfort
Helps nutrient digestibility
Supports your body’s natural detoxification processes
Clinically validated weight loss system
All of those claims – completely unsubstantiated and have never been proven by testing. The healthy immune system claim – the head double diamond pumps all this stuff through her kids and guess what – she posted on FB last week on how one of them was sick!
Pete says
Joe,
Have you noticed when you ask for a response from an ambassador to explain what they meant by some of their ridiculous remarks, you never get a response back. Sounds like some upline BS to me.
Joe says
Hi Pete, yep, I’ve noticed it too…
HEB says
Google Herxheimer Reaction… Candida Die Off is real
Laura Cook says
I don’t use Plexus but die off from yeast is very real & a lot of people have an overgrowth of candida and don’t even know it. Yeast releases 79 different toxins when you kill it and stevia is actually something that can kill it (which is in Slim). I’m going through this right now.
Yes, the body is designed to get rid of toxins but not at the rate that killing yeast produces. I have to do a few days of antifungals and then detox for a few days while taking different herbs to help my body and especially my liver remove the bad stuff. Slowly I am getting better but it is a process because I’ve had this for so long and didn’t know it.
Joe says
Hi Laura, thanks for sharing and I do hope you feel better soon.
Michael says
You may want to Google it yourself because here is what that really is:
“A Jarisch–Herxheimer reaction is a reaction to endotoxin-like products released by the death of harmful microorganisms within the body during antibiotic treatment. The antibiotics are so successful at killing a lot of bacterial cells that now the contents of those burst cells provoke some irritation and must be cleared.
Jarisch–Herxheimer reactions are usually not life-threatening. Often they last only a few hours.”
So much for the Plexus minions who think this is about “detoxifying” your system.
April says
Much like Diet Coke and other processed foods/drinks that have artificial stuff in it people still purchase it. Plexus ingredients are all natural, plant based, no chemicals, dyes or artificial sweeteners. They have clinical studies now that prove the products work. So what is the problem investing healthy stuff?
Joe says
Hi April, can you please provide links in the national library of medicine (pubmed.gov) where the plexus studies are published? I’d like to take a look at them. Thanks 🙂
Michael says
April,
Thanks for showing up and spreading the message your upline told you to come here with. You should know that “all natural”, “plant based”, ” no chemicals, dyes or artificial sweeteners” are terms that cannot be verified as Plexus has never submitted to any outside quality control tests or independent research. The FDA has no standards for those terms, so they basically mean nothing.
You ask, “So what is the problem investing healthy stuff?” I’ll tell you what’s wrong. The fact that this company had products banned in Canada and Australia for DMAA content. The fact that their products contained lead and the company did nothing to alert its users. The fact that they include ingredients known to cause health problems (yerba mate, stimulants, etc.) The fact that they have never disclosed the source of their ingredients. The fact that they allow ambassadors to breach contracts with claims of curing ailments without one shred of evidence to back up such claims.
I’m sorry that you have bought in to the falsehoods spread by your upline, who simply wants a free trip to Maui off your pocketbook.
Vicki Gandy says
“Original” Plexus Slim and “Original” Accelerator absolutely worked for a lot of people and I was one of them! I lost 65 lbs and 40 inches in 9 months. I didn’t diet, although my cravings did change. No extreme exercise during that time (nothing more than I had been doing prior to starting Plexus).
I had several health improvements, including my blood sugar levels (I was pre-diabetic prior to starting). I had better sleep, better moods, chronic IBS and Acid Reflux disappeared. I had tried everything prior to original Plexus and it was the first thing that had ever worked for and I felt like a million dollars for almost 3 years!
The original affects were noticeable right away – within a few days. However, once they changed both of these original products, the great affects stopped. I’m so sick over it, I can’t even tell you. I wish Plexus would return to their original 2 products that were so successful!
If they would, I would be back on them immediately. (I still use the “new” pink drink, but only for regulating blood sugar and lipid levels, which it does still help for those things – but not weight loss any longer).
Michael says
Vicki,
As I understand it, Plexus had to reformulate products due to harmful ingredients being in them. Are you actually saying you wish they would return to those known harmful ingredients and that you would take those?
Vicki Gandy says
Yes, I wish they would return to them! Myself and many others! I had no ill side affects. Only fantastic benefits! Since they changed those 2 products, many previous health issues that original Plexus helped, have returned.
If some people couldn’t take them, then I wish they would offer both formulas of each product. But, at the time of original Slim and original accelerator, they had an 87% customer satisfaction! Not too shabby! Those of us who benefited, would give anything to have them back. We lost weight/inches and our health issues improved. Thanks!
Michael says
Well there you have it, folks. Despite containing harmful ingredients, some people would put their health in jeopardy and consume it. This shows you there is no rational way to explain to these Plexus ambassadors the long-term damage they could be doing to themselves (and their children, in many cases) by taking these products.
The above statement sounds like an addict, who despite being told that their habit can cost them dearly, is only interested in a fix they get from a chemical. So sad to know that there are folks out there like that.
Angie says
Don’t people buy cigarettes, alcohol, soda and junk food knowing it is harmful? Plexus has natural products for many health issues that I have personally watched transform the health of friends, family and myself. The fda does not regulate or approve any supplements. Even over the counter vitamins. Do some research on gut health and candidia. Drs approve and reccomend Plexus all the time.
Michael says
“Angie”, I’m going to repeat to you what I said when you posted earlier as “April” – Thanks for showing up and spreading the message your upline told you to come here with. You should know that “all natural”, “plant based”, ” no chemicals, dyes or artificial sweeteners” are terms that cannot be verified as Plexus has never submitted to any outside quality control tests or independent research. The FDA has no standards for those terms, so they basically mean nothing.
Also, please release the names of the doctors who you claim approve and recommend (i.e. – prescribe) Plexus products. If they do so, then they should have no problem with you putting their name out in public.
Pete says
Vicki
I don’t usually agree with any ambassador on any subject. But, I agree with you on the fact that since the original PS, and Plexusslim Accelerator were taking off the market, the company started to “spiral” down, and continues to do so. I always believed the success PS enjoyed was contributed to the Accelerator with the illegal and dangerous stimulant, DMAA.
Lola Smith says
This is their new misleading ad. I want to see a link to this “study”. https://shopmyplexus.com/saramarble/media/shareables/before-and-after-clinical-2.html
Joe says
Lola thanks for that link. I noticed at the bottom of the page they say “There was a trend toward weight decrease in the slim group (p=0.059). When I see studies that say “there was a trend” it usually means the effect seen was not statistically significant (scientists always look for significant effects). The p value given (0.059) also tells us the effect was not significant (if the p value is less than 0.05 then its significant).
Statistics aside, people using the slim lost about 5 pounds vs. those getting the placebo lost about 3 pounds. Not a huge difference over the course of the 8 week study.
I’m looking forward to reading the whole study when it gets published in a medical journal.
Jennifer says
It is not about pounds only! Body size & shape change. Overall health improvements. Look at the tons of testimonials. They’re easy to find. The individual ingredients have been studied & tested. The current formula if safe (dk about the old one 100%). Drs are following many Plexus users. For lots of people, these products have been life-changing. They may not be for everyone, but Plexus has more products than just Slim. Probiotics, Vitamins, Energy boost supplement… I am thankful for Plexus.
Joe says
Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing and I hope you have nice day.
Michael says
Jennifer, in true ambassador form, you simply chime in with talking points you picked up at your last meeting. The “tons of testimonials” you mention are overwhelmingly connected to ambassadors who have a financial interest in the product and 9 times out of 10 lie about results and/or make claims that are in violation of Plexus’ contract.
NONE, I say again, NONE of the products in any Plexus product have been studied and tested as you claim. You are lying to others if you make that statement. There are no peer-reviewed studies, no testing data, and Plexus has never subjected its products to quality control. It is so sad to see people such as yourself openly lying about products that have been found to be harmful. You mention “Dr.’s” – nobody who has even come on this forum has ever given a list of names of these physicians that they claim are in favor of Plexus products. I seriously doubt you will have the capability to do that.
Lola Smith says
Jennifer, where are these studies published, please? Can you show me the test results?
Shan says
Michael,
It was never about drinking the Kool-aid, just giving the impression that you would… This article points out that the money is made when Ambassador’s grow the buy-in sales force, not the sales force actually selling product.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/thebossyintrovert.com/2015/10/15/how-much-money-that-annoying-facebook-friend-who-sells-plexus-is-actually-earning/amp/?client=ms-android-hms-tmobile-us
Lola says
So apparently they are now saying they have randomized double-blind studies that prove it works. I would like to see the actual study though. All I have been able to get out of the reps is the Plexus ad about their study.
Joe says
Lola can you show the page that describes the study?
Lola says
My friend who sells it sent me a jpg. There is no way to post it. When I asked to read the actual study, not their ad for it, she said she doubts she will be able to get me that. I don’t see a way to post a jpg here.
Joe says
Hi Lola, can you email me the jpg? Did she say why she would be unable to get you the actual study? Studies that are published in medical journals can be easily seen on pubmed.gov.
Lola says
How do I email it to you? I don’t see an email address for you.
Joe says
Hi Lola, I sent you an email yesterday. Check your spam if you dont see it.
Lola Smith says
Not in my junk mail either. I am putting in a different email address on this comment. Email me here.
Joe says
Hi Lola. I just emailed you. let me know or email me back if you got it.
Lola Smith says
Ok, I right clicked on the jpg I was sent through FB and was able to copy image location to get a link. This is what I was sent as proof of their “study”. https://scontent-dft4-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t34.0-12/14030916_10209838398653919_1147775069_n.jpg?oh=afc870330a1ec6f48c0e540ee3e5bef6&oe=57B9788C The reply to me saying I would like to see the actual study was “not sure that we’ll get that”.
Joe says
Hi Lola, I read the link. If the study is published in a medical/science journal, we can read the study. It may be a fine study but I would have to see the particulars of the study to be able to comment on it. If the ambassador is saying they cant get the study, it might mean the study is not currently published in a medical/science journal.
Lola Smith says
My guess is it will never be published. That is why she is saying that is the best she can do. But many people (her included, and she is a nurse) fall for that as proof that it works.
Michael says
You can make bank that it won’t be published. We know that this company does not want to spend money to do so and open itself up to scrutiny. All they did here was use their recently hired doctor from Herbalife to slap together some data that supports a claim. If it was a solid study, why wouldn’t they go public? Sales would rocket and people would be all over Plexus. This is a PR stunt in order to keep their ambassadors buzzing on social media.
Lola Smith says
There is no way it is being published, that is why the ambassadors I know tell me they don’t know if I can read the actual study but they were happy to share that jpg.
Michael says
Ask this rep if she thinks an average of .75 of a pound loss per week is something to brag about. That’s Plexus’ own numbers being used here. The Triplex users recorded an average 6.11 pound loss over 8 weeks.
People, your body weight can vary up to 2 pounds per day, solely on things like water weight. This “study” is nothing more than a gimmick to get people interested in losing weight, which we have been told is not the ultimate goal with Plexus. Well, wait a minute. Maybe it used to be all about the weight loss. Then it was all about the wellness. I guess now its back to all about the weight loss – if you think less than a pound a week is “losing weight”.
Pete says
I was in the pharmaceutical business for over thirty years. The reps would receive dozens of studies each month approved by the FDA to be presented to doctors to try and convince them to prescribe my products. Most went in the trash. If the study was done in house, like I’m sure this one was, it was considered worthless, because unlike an impartial study done by an independent house, the numbers can be construed to be in favor of the company supporting, or paying for the study.
Doctors were interested in studies performed by an outside agency, from a reputable institution, and the criteria for setting up and evaluating the studies. I am sure if this study is ever shown it would NOT meet the qualifications listed above.
Kara says
yes, recently (within the last month) they have come out with the clinical study. I have study summary but not sure how to upload it. It says the following:
“Slim and Tri-Plex have scientifically demonstrated their safety and efficacy in weight loss.*
The frequency of people being overweight has risen dramatically in recent years. Numerous weight management products claim to help weight loss, however, few of these products undergo scientific research to demonstrate their claims.
In a multi-center, doulbe-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial, 175 subjects were randomly given Slim, Tri-Plex, or a placebo. The study was done by an independent Contract Research Organization in accordance with the International Conference Harmonization Guidelines on Good Clinical Practice. The results are illustrated below and show that both Slim and Tri-Plex are both safe and effective as a weight loss solution.1,2”
and then has the graphics that show the difference between the placebo group and the plexus group. they studied just slim and separately the triplex combo. I cant copy and paste the graphics, tho. hope this helps.
Joe says
Hi Kara, when the study gets published in a medical journal, will you let us know what the the link is so we can all read the study.
Michael says
Kara writes:
“The results are illustrated below and show that both Slim and Tri-Plex are both safe and effective as a weight loss solution.1,2.”
How does an 8 week study prove safety of their product? Because someone didn’t keel over during those 8 weeks? Did Plexus conduct any other tests outside of weight loss numbers to prove the safety of their product?
Additionally, I think we can all do some simple math here. The 1st group lost only 0.68 of a pound per week. The 2nd, only 0.90 of a pound. How in the world is that considered “effective” when you can get better results by simple changes that don’t cost you a single dime?
Let’s be real here – the 2nd group that used the TriPlex basically diarrhea-dieted themselves. Bio Cleanse is nothing more than a laxative, so these folks most likely robbed themselves of nutrients to get that 0.22 of a pound better result.
Dallas says
Would love your opinion. I took Plexus Slim for 2 weeks. It made the pain in my feet from plantar fasciitis almost dissappear. After stopping the pink drink, my morning pain in my feet increased ten fold to where I can barely walk. Do you think this is connected? I made no other major changes. Do you have any idea which ingredients might have been helping with my condition?
Joe says
Hi Dallas, I cant say either way. I don’t believe Ive ever heard of that happening before.
Michael says
Dallas, most likely it is nothing in Plexus that caused that alleviation. What’s more plausible is that you were hydrating more than usual, which aids with inflammation issues. Get on the web and start doing research on plantar fasciitis and dehydration. You can either spend a little bit on bottled water or fork out loads of cash on a supplement with known harmful chemicals in it.
Kara says
yes, it most likely is connected. Plexus will help reduce inflammation which in turn can help your plantar fasciitis. This is not the first time I have heard of this. No chemicals… just plant based ingredients.
Joe says
Hi Kara, what ingredients in Plexus reduce inflammation? If inflammation did go down it might be do to weight loss. But why did the plantar come back after it was halted?
Michael says
Kara writes;
“No chemicals… just plant based ingredients.”
And we all know that to be an outright fabrication.
Bea says
I took plexus slim products, changed my diet to include vegetables, moderate amounts of protein, and eliminated bread, pasta, rice. I took out all sugar and all processed foods. I drank water, used apple cider vinegar as suggested on a daily basis and lost 30 pounds in 14 weeks. I was able to reduce my blood pressure medications, completely went off needing Insulin and most importantly have kept the weight off for 6 months, even though I no longer use the product. I am a satisfied customer except it is quite expensive.
Pete says
Bea
Has it ever occurred to you that the change of diet was the reason for you to lose the weight. How can you give PS the credit that you deserve in taking upon your self to change your eating habits You deserve all the credit, not PS, and I for one congratulate you on your efforts.
Rob says
You do realize there is an obesity epidemic in America right? Nobody can deny this. So what are we doing to stop this as a medical community? You go to your doctor and they just say “eat healthy”. Sometimes they will say, take this vitamin or that supplement. Ok. That’s obviously working right?!
Plexus isn’t perfect but it is helping thousands and thousands of people. It may give them a jump start in making healthy decisions. Then some may stop the product and continue the healthy lifestyle. But they couldn’t do it alone. Someone mentions that no doctor approves it. Well I know many that do. From OBs to primary care providers I can name them. Most people that hate on a product so much have another agenda they are trying to sell.
Plexus has many other great products from plant based omega vitamins to probiotics to an ease capsule that contains naturally occurring anti-inflammatories. Someone also talks about contaminates or putting this unregulated product in their body.
I hope they realize that ALL vitamins are unregulated, not just Plexus. Also I’m sure those critiquing Plexus live the most perfect, naturalistic life. So yes, I do use it and yes I am a medical provider. I also realize that the average person cannot start the journey of a healthy lifestyle without someone or something helping them along the way. Same thing goes with joining a gym.
Sure you can go run circles around your house but why when you can have someone coaching you? Plexus is designed to help the person in their journey to a healthier, happier life. If you don’t like it then that is fine but for those that use it and sell it I have seen life changing results.
Pete says
Rob
Before I respond to your post, answer three basic questions:
1. What type of healthcare provider are you?
2. Are you a PS ambassador?
3. List 10 of the doctors you state promotes this stuff over a healthy lifestyle, and what city in which they practice. (you offered)
Michael says
Rob writes:
“Plexus isn’t perfect” – You can say that again. And again and again. Lead contamination. Product bans in Canada and Austrailia. Warning letters from the FDA. BBB score of C with 685 complaints, 582 in the last 12 months. Far from perfect, indeed.
” it is helping thousands and thousands of people” – or so you say. The only ones really being “helped” are the top 1% of Ambassadors who sit atop the pyramid and make big money. Also, a nebulous term such as “helping” does not substantiate any of the unproven and by Plexus’ own contract, unapproved claims.
“Someone mentions that no doctor approves it. Well I know many that do. From OBs to primary care providers I can name them.” – Then throw down. I’m sure these folks would love to have their names put out there for support of this product. I’m really looking forward to seeing these names.
“Most people that hate on a product so much have another agenda they are trying to sell.” – Two things here: First, how about you cite what other product those of us who “hate” on Plexus are pushing. Second, most people who come here to spout off about the greatness of Plexus have a financial interest and an upline pushing them to come here and cheerlead.
“Plexus has many other great products from plant based omega vitamins to probiotics to an ease capsule that contains naturally occurring anti-inflammatories.” – And here comes the “synergistic” sales pitch. Look, their probiotic is at best, marginal. The other crap you cite: none of it has any research or testing behind it, so it falls in line with all the other supplements which are completely ineffective and a waste of money.
“Someone also talks about contaminates or putting this unregulated product in their body. I hope they realize that ALL vitamins are unregulated, not just Plexus.” – Right here. I’m the one who said that. For starters, I do realize all vitamins are unregulated and I don’t take any for that reason. Second, studies have shown multivitamins to be worthless and at times, harmful to people who take them. I find it comical that you take the “yeah, but other stuff is bad” approach to Plexus. You’re actually admitting the stuff is garbage. High five!
“So yes, I do use it and yes I am a medical provider.” – My money is that you’re in nursing school just like the last one who came in here braying on about their medical credentials. Anyone with a shred of knowledge about ingredients like higenamine, yerba mate, chlorogenic acid, etc., would know to stay away from it.
“Plexus is designed to help the person in their journey to a healthier, happier life.” – Really? Because we have been told it was the miracle drug for diabetics. Then it was “all about the weight loss.” Then it was “all about the wellness”. Then it was “Plexus Freedom”. You’ll have to excuse us – we’ve been told umpteen different messages about what Plexus is for. I guess now we have this week’s ambassador talking points, so it will get added to all of the Facebook pages and uplines will be pleased.
Michael says
Pete – chalk this “Rob” person up as another shill downline who was sent here with a pre-packaged message. 10 days later and he still won’t disclose names of these doctors who openly approve an unregulated supplement. I am just shocked, shocked I say, that we don’t have that information posted here yet.
Allison says
I gave Plexus a serious consideration and try after two friends pushed it, to help with “energy” and “headaches” that I suffer from. I wasn’t concerned about weight loss as I have already changed my eating habits and up’d my water intake and have been consistently losing weight with out Plexus.
But, if it helped with me headaches and helped with weight loss that would be like a two for one! So I gave in and tried it. My Friend gave me a 7 day trail. I started on Sunday and by Sunday afternoon had this dull pain in my chest. It stayed and never went away.
Tuesday night, I had a full on panic attack that I was going to die. Wednesday night I had dreams that I was being attacked and I started to hit and kick my husband in my sleep. Needless to day I started to research Plexus more and decided not to take it.
The pain in my chest slowly went away, and I don’t feel like I’m dying. I told my friend about it, and she said my body needed time to adjust and I should be eating enough protein.
I think this stuff has serious side effects, and should be only taken with EXTREME caution.
Joe says
Hi Allison, I am SO sorry that you went through that. Did you just use plexus slim (the pink stuff) or did you also take other products like the Accelerator? Just curious.
The person who gave you supplements was incorrect in saying that you needed time to adjust or that you were detoxing. I’ve heard statements like this from other sellers of supplements. Because we are all individuals, statements like that are just cookie cutter replies to complex problems. Anytime people report having chest pains, sharp, dull or otherwise, feelings like they are dying etc, should be referred to their doctor immediately, if not the ER to get checked out.
Karie says
I use Plexus with my Doctor’s guidance, I am educated and not money hungry. I’ve lost several inches and i’ve noticed a significant change in my gut health. Stop the hating. If you don’t want to use the Plexus products then don’t.
Michael says
Karie,
What doctor in their right mind would give the OK for a patient to use products that have known hazardous ingredients? I have a really hard time buying these nebulous claims from ambassadors such as yourself that throw in some anonymous doctor-approval statement. No doctor, other than the ones hired by Plexus, has ever come forward to approve of any of their products. In fact, most doctors will tell you quite the opposite. I have posted links here from websites that allow people to ask doctors specific questions about Plexus. These doctors all shun the product and warn consumers about the dangers of unregulated supplements.
There’s no “hating” here. Just because we don’t tow the upline talking points like you do does not make us haters. We have asked every ambassador who comes here some simple questions:
where is this product made?
Why does the company allow ambassadors to make unfounded claims?
Why did Plexus not publicly disclose that their products had been discovered to have lead contamination?
At no time will ambassadors answer specific and direct questions. They simply parrot the line of “quit hating.”
Pete says
Karie
Would you please tell us specifically the name and specialty of the doctor that told you that products that were found to be contaminated, and NO credible safety, or efficacy trials performed on them was ok to put in your body? Obviously, you nor the doctor knew about the contamination issue with Plexus products.
Barbara says
Hello Michael,
I’ve been researching Plexus, because I’m interested in using it. Can you tell me what kind of harmful ingredients you said it has?
Thanks
Michael says
Barbara,
I would suggest you look at Joe’s detail above of all the ingredients in Plexus. The first of which, is chromium. Many people think there’s nothing wrong with it but high intake of chromium can lead to side effects such as skin irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea, mood changes and impaired thinking, judgment, and coordination. In some cases, blood disorders, liver or kidney damage can occur. 200 mcg’s is insane, in my opinion to be consuming daily.
Chlorogenic acid is another ingredient that is highly suspect – in some studies, it is linked to heart disease.
Past that, what is most troubling about all ingredients in Plexus is that the company has never disclosed where they source their ingredients. Common practice shows us that companies buy from countries like India, China, Mexico, etc. in order to get rock-bottom costs on ingredients.
Keep in mind, I am just talking about the pink drink here. Many of their other stuff also has issues, especially those products containing stimulants.
Rhonda says
I am not on Plexus, and will not! I do have a friend who has bought into this. She has bought in hook, line, and sinker. She has her overweight, high blood pressure husband on it, and is going to take him off his blood pressure, and other medication. I am afraid by doing this she is going to kill the man she loves.
Both her, and her upper person have the script down, and if I bring up a question they stumble on, they just refer me to someone even higher, but never to the company nor the website, because it is very vague. How do I convenience her before it is too late? ?.
Joe says
Hi Rhonda, one thing I would do is advise your friend and her husband to show the ingredients products she wants her husband to take, to his pharmacist. I have the ingredients of several plexus supplements here. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Michael says
I would also suggest they take this stuff to their physician to look at and let him know they are pulling off meds voluntarily. He can explain what going cold turkey and ingesting unregulated supplements will do to this man.
As I understand it, Plexus ambassadors are told not to portray their products as a cure or remedy for any health ailment. They are told not to claim it is a weight loss product. What exactly are these people saying that would lead anyone to believe it is OK to pull someone of medications for high blood pressure and the issues involved with that? What are they saying with regards to weight loss and their products? Seems we have another case of ambassadors blatantly ignoring their contracts with Plexus.
Lacy McClain says
This is the issue they are selling it as a cure all. I am a diabetic and this stuff almost killed me. It caused my liver enzymes to go up and I gained 30 lbs. My doctor said it was the cause and told me to stop. So I kept eating right and drinking the water and lost 25 lbs all on my own. And it was free. It really scares me that people are being scammed to sell this stuff.
Michael says
I think, unfortunately, many people will ignore common sense when the message comes from someone portraying a lavish lifestyle and success. Wild claims will be believed and people will “jump on board” due to their desire to fit in or have someone make them feel like they are best friends and/or part of something.
These ambassadors throw out the promise of getting to drive a Lexus and how much money can be made and the unassuming will be swept up in that. What is most disturbing are the ones who make unsubstantiated claims and post how they give their children these products. I cannot understand how anybody would do that.
They claim it cures ADD and all sorts of issues with their children without a single shred of clinical evidence, etc. The same goes for claims with diabetes. This junk is no substitute for medication and a doctor’s monitoring of this health condition. I have seen ambassadors rave about the Block product with absolutely no clue of how harmful that can be to a diabetic.
Bottom line is that trash has never been tested and never scrutinized or subjected to trials to see what is in it. Buyer beware and know that nutritional supplements are the most hap-hazard product a person can ingest.
Eric Buehlet says
I like and use the slim product. It makes me crave water, which is healthy. It has helped balance my sugar levels, which as a type 2 diabetic is awesome. I also noticed an increased level of energy which lasts all day.
As far as actual ingredients in it, I assume thats propiratory, we ALSO don’t know exactly whats in big mac sauce, or in kfc chicken, either. That hasn’t stopped millions from eating those items.
I assure you Plexis has strict quality controls as all large companies do whose bottom line is product dependent, especially as a MLM.
Joe says
Hi Eric, I’m glad you feel it is helping you. Id only mention in passing that “craving water” is not always “healthy.” It could be a sign of diabetes for example. Im curious, you mentioned you are a type II diabetic. How long have you been using Plexus Slim? Has it helped your diabetes?
Michael says
Eric writes:
“we ALSO don’t know exactly whats in big mac sauce, or in kfc chicken, either.”
Actually, we do. You can Google either of these products and get details. Additionally, both federal, state, and local entities are charged with monitoring the safety of their foods. Please advise which entity Plexus submits their products to for testin….nevermind. I’ll get nowhere on this with an ambassador.
“I assure you Plexis has strict quality controls as all large companies do whose bottom line is product dependent, especially as a MLM.”
Once again, an ambassador tows the line in hopes that their upline will give them a high-five for coming in here and posting garbage. Eric, supplements can choose to adhere to what is known as GMP and have their products tested by about 4 different quality control companies. To date, Plexus submits their products to ZERO. I assume their quality control that you “assure” us about found the lead contamination in their products and notified the public? Or was that handled via a lawsuit? What about the DMAA issue they went through? Was that uncovered by their “quality control” or rather the Australian and Canadian entities that banned their products?
And this company is in no way dependent on the product sales. They are dependent on the recruitment of new ambassadors and their $39.95 signup fee.
If you’re going to come here and preach about the greatness of Plexus, spend some time researching it before you make yourself look so foolish.
Jeannie Holt says
$34.95 sign up fee. Not $39.95
Pete says
Jeannie Holt
What’s the different, $34.95, $39.95, $100.95.? PS is still a MLM hoax that
deprives millions of people out of billions of dollars each year.
One other note. When you quit PS, if you are an ambassador, it’s going to be a while before they stop billing your credit card for whatever your annual fee is.
Sharon says
just curious, not a PS user, actually do not believe in it and feel it is a scam too. Have a family member who sells it. She and her family all use a ton of the products daily. Certain health issues that she suffered from supposedly have gone away, one being MS. She has gone off a lot of her meds and decreased a lot of them. One of her children has developed a GI problem, when before was relatively a healthy young person. Just wondering if PS could have caused it.
Pete says
Eric
You speak of the strict quality control that PS must have relating it to other large companies. Quality control with most all diet supplement companies large or small hardly exist. PS in particular. Lead found in PS products, which had been in them for years tells me that quality control does not, and has never been a focus of PS.
To protect the public, fast food, and other members of the food industry, are under strict scrutiny by the FDA. The dietary supplement industry, even though monitored by the FTC, and the FDA, are under more lax regulations. Dangerous, in my opinion.
A proprietary blend product is usually there for two purposes. 1. To protect from competition, or 2. To dupe the public. I find in my experience, MLM companies, like PS, unfortunately, are the latter.http://smallbusiness.chron.com/fda-regulations-fast-food-64834.html
Karen says
Slim is working well for me so far. I’ve lost 12 pounds in around 4 weeks. My husband is also taking it and h’s noticed great improvement in his fasting blood sugars.
Michael says
Slim has nothing to do with the ability to lose 3 lbs a week. You could do that by simply cutting portions on your meals, drinking more water, and getting a little exercise. But hey, you want to ingest untested, unregulated chemicals into your body, by all means proceed. Your upline depends on your willingness to fork over money for a product that has never been shown to do anything it claims to do.
Liz says
How do you know….quite being such a bully. Let folks do what they want and take what they want….really where do you live? Isn’t this USA?
Pete says
Liz
How is warning people of the dangers of a company that sells products that can make you ill, or even kill you being a “bully”? You’re a new recruit, listening to whatever your uneducated, money hungry upline is telling you. One day, hopefully, you will open your eyes, and mind, and understand that PS products are secondary to the company, and your upline emptying your pocketbook.
Michael says
Liz writes:
“Let folks do what they want and take what they want”
Really, Liz? You’re OK with people lying to others about what a product can do in the attempts to sell supplements that have historically contained harmful substances? We should just let it be a free-for-all, letting people advertise how they give this stuff to children and how safe it is, despite all the warnings we hear about not doing such a thing? You truly are a banner example of what Plexus looks for.
“How do you know”
Liz, if you don’t understand the laws of physiology by this point, there’s nothing I can say to you that will convince you to believe that no pill, powder, or shake is a substitute for healthy lifestyle changes. You’re one of those who believes a magic pill can miraculously subvert the way a human body processes calories. I’m sorry for that.
“quite being such a bully”
Yes, everything that doesn’t give a Facebook like or kudos to whatever you believe is “bullying”. Watch out for the fresh snowflake, every body. Don’t you dare mention that she can’t spell “quit” because she might construe that as a physical threat.
Lynnsey says
Exactly! One year ago, I chose to make a positive change on my life. After having two children, my body wasn’t what it used to be. I have since lost about 50 pounds, went from a size 14 to a 4 and did so by cutting out excess junk, like too much sugar and sodas, drank mostly water, scaled back on portions, and exercised daily.
I have kept the weight off for a whole year by continuing the lifestyle, not by giving in to hype and gimmicks. Best part, I didn’t have to spend any extra money on supplements! 🙂
Michael says
Lynnsey,
What you have done takes extremely hard work and discipline to accomplish. I think most people want instant results and affirmation from those around them. That’s what things like Plexus attempt to sell. They prey on the weak who are struggling to lose weight or are looking to fill some void in their life. It is so incredibly easy to give in to the pill, powder, and shake mentality. When you have charismatic double diamonds telling you how great your life will be if you just sign up, it’s hard not to buy that line of BS.
However, the decisions you have made are life-lasting. They don’t fade in and out like every MLM on the planet does. And they certainly don’t involve ingesting unknown ingredients that could come back to haunt you years down the road. If more people would have the same kind of determination that you exhibit, they would certainly attain better things than desperate Facebook postings about over-priced garbage.
Pete says
Kudos to Lynnsey!!!! Way to go!!!
Suzanne says
Good for you Linnsey! I don’t really need to lose weight but I was getting a bit chunky around the middle and feeling bloated. Muffin top? Lol! So I analyzed what is in my diet that was causing this and I realized my love of ice cream, delicious pastries, cookies and so forth could be it? I think it was all the sugar I was consuming.
So I gave it up and after 3 days my body doesn’t crave it anymore and my belly fat went down! I wasn’t about to buy any pill to lose my belly fat. Like Michael says, you don’t know what’s in the diet drink, powder or pills. Your setting a positive example of anyone who wants to lose weight the smart and healthy way.
Kelly says
Um…. Lynnsey, kudos, but why are you reading and commenting on a supplement website then???
Michael says
Probably because she’s free to do so? Maybe she comes here to get some research rather than buying into the hype of ambassadors who get spoon-fed what to post on their FB pages?
Nancy says
So good to hear the positive! Good luck!
Just started mine, looking for the same results!
Ann says
I took it for a month. During that time I kept thinking I had food poisoning or different restaurants made me sick because I had horrible stomach cramping and a very upset stomach on random occasions. Several times I was worried I wouldn’t make it home, or had to stay at the restaurant longer. I quit taking it at the end of the month and I was fine. A week later I took it once and had horrible stomach cramping that night. That’s the last I took it. I know it was the product, I just wonder what caused it?
Michael says
Ann, I’ll bet you if you asked an ambassador, you would have been told the following:
“You’re detoxing”
“You need to use the Bio-Cleanse product”
“You need to use the Pro-Bio product”
“Its all about the wellness”
The fact is, nobody truly knows what the contents of this product are. Plexus will not disclose the manufacturing site of its products. It does not submit to quality control standards. They have also been involved in regulatory actions and lawsuits over the ingredients in their products.
I would bet that any number of fillers or undisclosed contents make it into their products and it may have been something you had a reaction to. You should file a complaint with the FDA and BBB.
Liz says
i guess you are a doctor now….boy get a life.
Michael says
Stop “bullying” me, Liz!!
Suzanne says
I agree with you Michael. The ingredients in the product didn’t agree with Ann and the ambassadors probably would have told her its part of the detoxification. Lol!
susie says
does anyone else get gas really bad drinking the slim?
Liz says
ask Michael (above) he knows everything.
Pete says
Liz
Michael is simply telling you ladies what you are afraid to admit, the truth. MLM companies such as PS, have been proven to be the most DECEPTIVE marketing practice on the face of this planet. It dupes millions of people out of billions of dollars each year simply by lying, and deceiving them. And, I feel most confident you will be a victim before long.
Sandy says
I have used it for 3 weeks, and my stomach has become so bloated and painful. In addition, I GAINED 3 pounds.
It’s a no brainer that I needed to stop this product! Why pay $190 a month to feel miserable and gain weight!
Michael says
Careful, Sandy. People like Liz will take your statements as bullying.
Talesha says
Darlene,
Speaking as someone who suffered from SEVERE bowel issues for the last 15 years, I believe you to be incorrect. I had tried every over the counter and prescription stool softener and laxative available. Some would work for a short time, then I would be right back where I started.
At times, I would go 10 days with NO bowel movement. Then I would have diarrhea for a couple of days. I have always been a very healthy eater and exercised, so that my diet was not the problem. I saw a nutritionist and the special (very limited) diet he put me on didn’t help at all. I also was very much against supplements of any kind.
Out of desperation (and until you’ve suffered as I did, you can’t understand), I decided to just give Plexus a try and see what happened. I didn’t expect for a minute it would really work, at least not long term. If medications that were FDA approved and prescribed by my DR didn’t work, why should I expect this to??? But, I committed myself to taking it every day consistently. (I even set alarms on my phone to remind me when it was time to take it as the 3 products I needed were to be taken at different times throughout the day.)
After a week, I began to notice a change. I began having somewhat normal BMs. After a month or so, I was having regular bms every single day. I had not done that in 15 years. I have been on the products for over a year and I 100% feel Plexus has given me my life back.
Stefani says
Talesha could I share this story? Plexus helped me the same way.
Michael says
Better read your ambassador contract before you make claims like Talesha did. It’s a violation.
Jamie says
I have noticed that friends who swear by it are taking in a lot more water. I think that has a lot to do with the “success” of this drink.
Suzanne says
I agree. It’s the amount of water there drinking everyday that’s helping them lose the weight. They would lose the weight drinking the same amount of water with a fresh squeeze of lemon or even green tea. It’s just common sense. Omg!
Darlene says
I’d sooner go to Mexico for a boob job then mess with my bowels. People are on my news feed buying into this left right and Center. I am sick of it. But I guess soon they will be sick too…
