Updated 6/6/24. Carnivora is a health supplement derived from the carnivorous Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) that you may have seen advertised online or heard of during radio commercials (such as Coast to Coast AM with George Noory). Carnivora is said to help the immune system function better, or in the words of one YouTube video I saw, “wakes up the immune system and makes it dominant.” Does Carnivora work?” is the question everybody asks me. I've been curious about this product since I first heard the Coast to Coast AM radio commercial, so in this Carnivora review, I will share what I found when I looked at the research. Let's see what we can discover.
Who Makes Carnivora?
The company is called Carnivora Research International its website is Carnivora.com. The Contact Us page of the Carnivora.com website actually lists the emails of a variety of people within the Carnivora organization ―even the owner/CEO of the company, Richard Ostrow.
That level of transparency is rare in the supplement world, and I actually appreciated seeing this. There is no official address for the Carnivora company. There is, however a PO Box address:
- PO Box 1035 Weston CT 06883-0035
This is the same address listed on the BBB file for Carnivora also.
To contact Carnivora call 866 836 8735.
I was curious where Carnivora was made. I was unable to find this answer.
Carnivora Research International is a Better Business Bureau accredited company since 2009. It had a rating of “A+” when this review was updated. The company has been in business since 1981. See the BBB file updates and more information.
Carnivora Research
On the Science of Carnivora page of the product website, there are links to many studies that serve as a testament to the benefits of Carnivora. Most of the links were clickable and linked directly to published peer-reviewed studies. I liked that. I looked at all of the studies listed on the Science of Carnivora page and, after which came to these conclusions:
1. The word “Carnivora” does not appear in most of the studies listed
2. Most of the studies listed are test-tube or mouse studies
This means most of the research is not on the supplement
Many of the studies make references to compounds ―such as something called Plumbagin ―but studies of individual/isolated ingredients (in test tubes or lab animals) are not the same thing as human studies on Carnivora itself.
After looking at the evidence presented on the product website, my question is:
American Cancer Society
American Cancer Society states that in 1985, a German oncologist named Helmut Keller who invented Carnivora in the 1970s (and who holds the patent on it) did a study involving 210 people with various types of cancer. Dr. Keller noted that 56% of people treated with the Carnivora extract experienced either remission or stabilization of their tumors. That's really impressive, but the ACS said the study has not been replicated.
I was not able to locate this study.
Why didn't Dr. Keller replicate his findings?
To be fair, it is disappointing that the American Cancer Society themselves did not attempt to replicate this study. The ACS did say the study was published, so I assume they have read it.
If anyone can show me the published study of Dr. Keller and Carnivora, I'll be happy to update this review.
A study published in 2013 reviews various compounds in Venus flytrap as they relate to cancer. This study covers several mouse and tube research investigations on Venus flytrap compounds. It does not mention human studies. The study does not mention Carnivora by name.
Other Carnivora Research
After writing my review, I was contacted by an information specialist at Carnivora, the conversation of which you can read in the comments below. The person informed me that there was additional research on Carnivora performed in Europe 25 years ago. I was told this research was prohibited in the US. I was also told that to read that information, I would have to provide an email address that was not based in either the US or Canada.
It was an odd request. However, I was intrigued by the possibility that additional research existed, so I complied and received the information a few days later. Below is a summary of the documents I received, along with my thoughts on that information.
1. President Regan and Carnivora. I was sent what appears to be, a small page out of a book, that discusses President Regan's use of Carnivora to treat polyps. If this is a book excerpt, there is no citation as to what that book is. In the January 2011 issue of Dr. Rowen's Second Opinion Newsletter (see below for more info), Dr. Rowen says that President Regan “used Carnivora with success to keep malignant polyps from returning in 1985.”
But, according to the website DrZebra.com, President Regan had his polyps surgically removed in 1987. If they were successfully treated by Carnivora in 1985, why did he have surgery to remove the polyps in 1987? Regardless of who is right on this issue, this book excerpt is not a published peer-reviewed study.
2. German Cancer Therapies: Natural and Conventional Medicines that Offer Hope and Healing. This is a book by Dr. Morton Walker, a freelance writer and retired podiatrist, and was published in 2003. I mentioned Dr. Walker in the section about Carnivora and HIV, so see that section also. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 of that book discusses Carnivora. That said, book chapters sent to me did not contain any peer-reviewed studies to substantiate the claims made in these chapters. As such, we can't tell anything about them.
Remember, I had to provide a non-USA-based email address to receive all of the information discussed in this section. I don’t see why I had to do this because this book is available on Amazon.
3. Comments of Dr. Daniel Kinner, OMD, L.Ac. On His Personal Clinical Experience Using Carnivora, Venus Flytrap Extract. This appears to be a letter dated March 8, 2000, from Dr. Kinner to Carnivora Research International. According to his website, DanKennerresearch.com, Dr. Kinner holds a Ph.D. in Naturopathic Medical Science and is an Oriental Medical Doctor (OMD). He is also a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac).
In the letter, Dr. Kinner speaks of the experiences of his patients who used Carnivora. All the experiences were positive. But, since this is just a letter, it is not a published peer-reviewed study and amounts to just a testimonial, in my view.
4. The Townsend Letter for Doctors. This appears to be an alternative medicine newsletter (published in the US) and the issue that was sent to me is dated May 1992. I am not sure who wrote this article. There is a reference circled in the document, which I imagine is proof of what is stated in the newsletter. The reference circled is titled:
Kreher B, “Structure elucidation of plumbagin-analagues from Dionaca Muscipula and their immunomodulating activities in vitro and in vivo. International Symposium: Molecular Recognition, Sopron, Hungry, August 24-27, 1988.”
From the title, it appears this citation represents a study that was presented at a science convention. While presenting information is good in that it helps disseminate information to the scientific community, it does not mean that the information has gone through the peer-review process.
Regardless, this is not a human study. I was not sent any peer-reviewed studies of this information either, so it appears that this investigation was never peer-reviewed. Why was this information never published in a medical journal?
5. Dr. Robert Rowen's Second Opinion Newsletter, dated August 2004. This is just a newsletter where a doctor discusses what he knows and has observed about Carnivora. It also mentions Dr. Kenner (see point #3). Unfortunately, there are no peer-reviewed references in the attached newsletter either.
6. Dr. Robert Rowen's Second Opinion Newsletter, dated July 2009. In this issue of the newsletter, Carnivora is also discussed but it doesn’t say anything new. It just appears to be a rehash of Ronald Reagan and other people who said they were helped by Carnivora.
7. Dr. Robert Rowen's Second Opinion Newsletter. This newsletter is dated January 2011. Again, this is just a newsletter.
8. Molecular Recognition: Carnivora a New Discovery. This document is dated 1988. In the email I received, I was told that this is a clinical study. But, there is no author and no citation about where this is published. I don’t know if “Molecular Recognition” is the title of a journal or a chapter in a book or a private, internal document. This does not look like any published peer-reviewed study I've ever seen.
9. Comparison of lymphocytes subpopulation in various cancer therapies. This document is said to be a European clinical study, however it is not peer-reviewed and does not appear to be published in any medical journal. While it has a couple of graphs, the document appears for the part, to be a letter dated February 13, 1995, written by someone (who, I don’t know) to Dr. Helmut Keller.
There were other documents sent to me also that were said to be “European studies” however they don’t appear to be published in any medical journal.
Unfortunately, none of the documents sent to me are to the level that I would accept as “proof”, which is published, peer-reviewed research.
Carnivora and Dr. C. Joe Schneller
One YouTube video about Carnivora features Dr. C. Joe Schneller who said he is doing a study of how 3 capsules a day of Carnivora “wakes up the immune system and makes it dominant.”
The video was uploaded on June 16, 2011, but it appears to not yet be completed or published, as it is not listed on the Carnivora website or listed in the National Library of Medicine. Likewise, when I did a Google search for:
“Dr. Schneller Carnivora study,”
No study was revealed. I will update this review with his study and its results if it gets published.
Let's next look at some of the major reasons people might be interested in Carnivora and attempt to find clinical studies for those uses. That way, those interested in specific issues can get an idea of whether Carnivora might be right for them.
Carnivora and The Immune System
Carnivora is primarily marketed as something that can improve/modulate the immune system. Ironically, when I searched the National Library of Medicine for “Carnivora” no relevant studies showed up. So, I searched the National Library of Medicine for these specific words to see if there were any research:
- Venus flytrap immune
- Venus flytrap immunity
- Venus flytrap immune system
- Venus flytrap phagocytosis (refers to how some immune cells work)
- Venus flytrap antibody
- Venus flytrap B cell (B cells are a type of immune cell)
- Venus flytrap T cell (T cells are a type of immune cell)
- Dionaea Muscipula immune
- Dionaea Muscipula immune system
- Dionaea Muscipula immunity
- Dionaea Muscipula phagocytosis
- Dionaea Muscipula antibody
- Dionaea Muscipula B cell
- Dionaea Muscipula T cell
No studies showed up for any of these search terms.
This may mean Venus flytrap/ Dionaea Muscipula might not have been specifically studied for its effects on how it improves the immune system.
So why is it being marketed to boost immunity?
One of the compounds in the Venus flytrap is called Plumbagin. Some websites even claim that Plumbagin is the active ingredient in Carnivora.
Plumbagin does have some research. For example, Plumbagin has been studied for its possible anti-cancer effects. When I searched the National Library of Medicine for:
“Plumbagin immune” (click the link to see the studies) I saw a lot of studies, but most of them were conducted in test tubes or used lab mice.
What I didn't see was a study showing that Plumbagin (oral or injected) prevented the flu or improved arthritis symptoms ―or improved any other immune system-related condition ―in humans.
Carnivora and AIDS
Since Carnivora is touted to improve the immune system, a logical question would be Does it help HIV/AIDS? On one website that discusses this topic, a 1994 magazine article titled, The Carnivora Cure for Cancer, AIDS and Other Pathologies” published in Immune Perspectives, is mentioned. In this article, it's said that Carnivora caused the ” total elimination of the HIV virus.”
I tried to locate this article but I could not find it.
Additionally, I was not able to find a peer-reviewed journal called “Immune Perspectives” either. In fact, I could not find ANY magazine called “Immune Perspectives.”
The author of this article was Dr. Morton Walker, whose website is DrMortonWalker.com. I believe this is the doctor associated with the Immune Perspectives article. However, when I searched his site for the article it does not appear there either.
I then searched the National Library of Medicine for these words:
- Venus flytrap AIDS
- Venus flytrap HIV
- Dionaea Muscipula AIDS
- Dionaea Muscipula HIV
This search revealed no studies either.
I did locate a 2002 study titled Inhibitory effects of quinones on RNase H activity associated with HIV-1 reverse transcriptase that noted that Plumbagin (one of the compounds in Venus flytrap, as well as other plants) inhibited an enzyme that is needed for HIV to replicate. While this is interesting, the study was over a decade ago and was basically just a test-tube study.
Because of the lack of published research on this topic, I am unfortunately forced to conclude for the moment that there is no good proof that Carnivora or Venus flytrap extracts improve immune function in those with HIV/AIDS.
Some say black seeds can cure HIV. Here is a video I created about that research
Carnivora and Cancer
Can this supplement help people with cancer? I searched the National Library of Medicine for “Carnivora Cancer” but didn’t see any studies that specifically investigated Carnivora―itself― for how it might help cancer.
This is ironic because many websites relate the story of how former President Ronald Reagan used Carnivora to prevent cancer. Mr. Reagan still had part of his colon removed because of colon cancer. So, if he did use Carnivora, how significant of an effect did it have on his cancer?
Regardless, some of the compounds (such as Plumbagin) in Venus flytrap have been studied for how they might affect cell growth. But, in these studies, Plumbagin is used as an isolated compound (which is different than Carnivora which contains a variety of compounds). Also, most research on Plumbagin appears to be in the form of test-tube/Petri dish studies or lab animal studies.
I'm not aware of any studies in humans showing that Plumbagin cures cancer or slows cancer growth.
Also, how much Plumbagin is in Carnivora? I don’t know, but either way, it's irrelevant at this point because of the lack of published studies on humans.
For a more in-depth discussion, see this 2013 review titled Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula Solander ex Ellis) Contains Powerful Compounds that Prevent and Cure Cancer. When I read this study, I noticed that it never mentions the name Carnivora or the name of Dr. Helmut Keller, the creator of Carnivora.
Carnivora and Arthritis
I did a Google search for “Carnivora and arthritis” and noticed that some websites mention that Carnivora has been used in Germany as a treatment for arthritis. But, when I looked at the various websites that discuss this issue, none that I saw included any studies to substantiate that Carnivora helps arthritis. They show no proof.
Likewise, I could not find any evidence when I searched the National Library of Medicine either. Maybe it helps or maybe it doesn’t but until studies are published, I believe the idea of Carnivora helping arthritis is open to speculation.
What About GI Issues?
Proof that the supplement improves digestion or helps people with intestinal problems could not be located.
Carnivora and Lupus
I searched the National Library of Medicine for these words:
- Carnivora lupus
- Dionaea Muscipula lupus
- Venus flytrap lupus
- Plumbagin lupus
No studies showed up. Unfortunately, it appears that there is no good proof, as yet, to determine if Carnivora helps lupus.
Carnivora and Fibromyalgia
Some websites discuss Carnivora as a possible treatment for fibromyalgia pain, but those sites provide no good proof of this. Likewise, when clinical databases were searched, no proof could be located.
Carnivora and Lyme Disease
Various websites discuss that the supplement might help Lyme disease but when proof of this cant' be located. Until that research is conducted, it's impossible to say if it helps or doesn’t.
Carnivora and Alzheimer's
Is there any proof this supplement helps dementia? Evidence cannot be located. I can't find any good proof that the Carnivora improves memory or helps people with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease.
Carnivora and Cats
Some clinical evidence suggests Carnivora can help cats with Feline Herpes Virus 1 (FHV-1), a viral infection that can cause respiratory problems in cats. Researchers in 2016 published titled Effects of Administration of Carnivora on Clinical Signs in Cats After Repeat Challenge with Feline Herpesvirus 1 (click to read pdf).
This investigation appeared to show cats treated with Carnivora had fewer upper respiratory symptoms than cats treated with a placebo. Here is a summary of the study and the results:
Study Summary
- The study involved 16 young adult cats (2 years of age).
- All the cats had FHV-1 for one year before the study.
- The cats were randomly split into a group that took Carnivora for or a placebo for 56 days.
- After treatment, all cats were exposed to the FHV-1 virus.
Study Results
- Cats treated with Carnivora were observed to have fewer upper respiratory tract symptoms than the cats that received the placebo.
Interestingly, the researchers also noted that “no clinically significant differences when comparing serum biochemical values from the Carnivora treated cats before and after treatment.” If I understand this correctly, it seems even though Carnivora appeared to reduce FHV-1 symptoms, it did not kill the virus.
The study does not specifically mention any effect on the immune system cells. That is unfortunate, given the immune-modulating reputation of Carnivora.
The authors state the study was supported by the makers of Carnivora, but that the company did not take any part in the study. That is good. I'm glad they are sponsoring research.
Does It Detox Your Body?
Some websites advocate Carnivora as part of a detox or “cleanse” to rid the body of harmful parasites and waste. These websites, however, give no good proof the supplement does this.
If Carnivora did boost the immune system, then I could understand how an enhanced immune system might be better at killing off bacteria/viruses. But, we will need clinical studies on this topic to know for sure.
Carnivora Side Effects
In healthy people, I believe Carnivora is safe. The Carnivora.com website states “There are no known contraindications using Carnivora with any prescription drugs (or other dietary supplements).” This doesn't mean there aren't any side effects. It just means the company isn't aware of any.
While it probably is safe, here is a list of things to consider when taking this supplement. This list is not complete.
- Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The company also mentions this and specifically says the supplement “is contraindicated for mid to late-term pregnancy.”
- Stop taking at least 2 weeks before having surgery. This is sage advice for all supplements too.
- Start with less than recommended for the first week to see how you respond.
- If you take blood thinner drugs, speak to your doctor/pharmacist. The product website also mentions this although they seem to not like blood thinners at all, calling them “toxic.” I'm not sure I'd go that far. The website also states blood may become too thin if taking combining blood thinner meds with high doses (20+ per administration) of Pure Extract drops.
Doctors in 2014, reported the case of a 30-year-old man with Hodgkin’s lymphoma (a type of cancer) who developed kidney failure after using the supplement for about a year. This seems to be the first case of this ever reported.
The supplement website used to discuss the possibility of a Herxheimer reaction occurring if people use too much too soon. The herxheimer reaction refers to a temporary increase in adverse symptoms. This is said to be the result of the Venus flytrap extract killing the infection. The condition was originally attributed to the treatment of syphilis with antibiotics, but it might occur with other conditions as well.
Amazon Reviews
Looking at Amazon reviews, the supplement had a rating of 4.3 out of 5-star rating with over 1500 ratings. Over 60% gave it a 5-star rating and 14% gave the
supplement a 4 star rating. Most reviews are those who made verified purchases.
How Much Extract Per Capsule?
Each bottle contains 100 capsules. Each capsule has 125 mcg of carnivore extract. The website for the supplement lists 125 mcg, taken three times per day, as the optimal intake for preventive uses.
How Much Does Carnivora Cost?
When I checked the product's website, each bottle, which contained 100 capsules, was $39.95 + shipping. The shipping options are:
- Priority Mail: $8.09
- FexEx 2Day: $28.64
- FedEx Standard Overnight $37.55
This would be in addition to the cost. Here are the available price options:
- 2 bottles: $79.90
- 3 bottles: $107.85
- 4 bottles: 143.80
- 5 bottles: 179.75
- 6 bottles: $215.70
- 7 bottles: $251.65

Purchasing 3 or more bottles entitles ou to a $4 discount per bottle. A free bottle is included as a bonus for those who purchase 5 or more bottles.
Each bottle of liquid Carnivora extact is $44.95. Each bottle contains 1 oz (30 ml).
Where To Buy Carnivora
The official company name is Carnivora Research International, and the website is Carnivora.com. It can be purchased directly from the company.
This supplement is not sold in stores like Walmart, CVS, Walmart, Costco, Walgreen's, or CVS. It is sold on Amazon.
Carnivora vs. The Competition
It should come as no surprise that when something gets popular, others will pop up with their own Venus flytrap supplements. There are others out there. However, there is no research comparing the benefits of Carnivora to other Venus flytrap supplements.
To the company's credit, they have sponsored some research on their supplement. That gives them an advantage over other similar venus fly trap supplements.
It's unknown how the supplement compares to other immune boosters such as Dr. Zelenko's Z-Stack vitamin formula or the ever-popular elderberry.

Research I'd Like To See
1. Randomly give the supplement -or placebo – to 10 people before and after measuring concentrations of various white blood cells. Let's see if anything changes.
2. Give the supplement or a placebo to 10 people with fibromyalgia and measure their pain levels before and after treatment.
3. Randomly give the supplement or placebo to 10 people with arthritis and measure their pain levels before and after treatment.
Each of these questions could be answered in a few months. It wouldn't cost much to do either. Hopefully, I just gave graduate students an idea for a dissertation topic (hint, hint).
Does Carnivora Work?
I don't know if Carnivora works or not because I don’t see human research either way. The research I found supporting one of its main ingredients (plumbagin) appears to be limited to lab animals or test-tube studies. While I remain skeptical, it's probably safe for most people, and I'm intrigued enough to hope future studies are conducted to understand this supplement better.

An excellent review! I am always skeptical when ANY supplement claims to be some kind of a ‘miracle pill’ or similar. Carnivora defiantly falls into this category, the claims seems to have come from the manufacturer’s PR department rather than an independent qualified Medical Lab or Peer Reviewed testing agency.
Now to be fair I do not like many of the FDA approved Pharmaceuticals on the market either, with all their side effects and which are marketed directly to people without the advice or consent of a Doctor on the evening news shows and in numerous magazine articles.
Much like this Supplement is mass-marketed. Remember it’s YOUR body, do some research before you take it! As for me and Carnivora, it seems to qualify for a “Golden Duck” Quack Cure Award. (If it walks like a duck, and ‘quacks’ like a duck….well then it’s probably a Duck.)
Joe says
Thanks Carl, I appreciate the compliment.
Cheryl says
Now it’s being advertised as a cure for feline herpes with a study to boot. Have you seen or heard about this? I couldn’t find any information on it doing a search.
Joe says
Hi Cheryl, I did a online search and believe I’ve found the study. Let me look it over and get back to you on this.
Joe says
Hi Cheryl, I’ve updated the review. There is now a section on the Feline Herpes cat study. If you dont see it, hit refresh on your browser.

Hello all,
So you understand why you won’t find studies on cancer, keep in mind that we live in the United States…
We will not go down this road here. We risk “being taken down” by the good ole crooked FDA.

I dont know about what you found or didn’t find, but in 2009 I came back to the U.S. infested ( confirmed by an DNA assay of a stool sample) with parasites I had apparently picked up in Indonesia on the island of Java. My naturopath treated me with Carnivora for 30 days. We had another sample tested and I was parasite free with no side effects…. I’m a believer.
Joe says
Mike, thanks for sharing. All I can say is there appears to be a lack of clinical studies on Carnivora. Obviously, lack of evidence does not mean something doesn’t work, but given testimonials like yours, I scratch my head as to why nobody seems to be doing the research to prove it does. Either way, I’m happy you are parasite free today.
Dr Bruce McKinnon says
I have to disagree with some aspects of your statement. I have a dog (not a person) who was diagnosed with cancer and I was told that she would probably lose her leg within the next 6 months or so. I started her on carnivora liquid daily for the past two years and during her recent physical, she has no signs of the cancer. I realize that there have, as yet, been no double-blind tests to prove or disprove whether carnivora works or not; but I would caution not to be either optimistic or pessimistic at this point in time.
gbear says
My brother has cancer. In my research I found no cancer clinic in the U.S. or Mexico, using carnivora, not that I was searching for it’s use. The clinics are staffed with MD’s & ND’s. The biggest promoter & affiliate of carnivora is Ty Bollinger who makes films about cancer, etc. It’s all anecdotal. Bottom line is nobody can claim a cure until there’s a autopsy. Carnivora? For getta bout it!

Note: you may need to re-read our prior posted comments before you read this update.
It’s been about 3-months since I last posted, and I wanted to share the good news regarding my wife’s progress in her battle with advanced Small Cell Lung Cancer.
After my wife completed her Radiology treatments, she started with the Carnivora (Program-B) in mid-February. She initially had a bad reaction to Carnivora Program-B (severe headaches & inner-eye pain) when she ingested the Lymph Drain and DMSO Supplements with Carnivora. She stopped taking her prescribed seizure and steroid medications, and after two-days she started taking the Carnivora liquid & capsules without the Lymph Drain and DMSO. She was up to the 5th week of Program-B, and this worked fine until the 3rd-week of April, when she had multiple seizures.
She went off her Carnivora for 2-days while she was recovering in the Hospital, and after her hospital discharge she resumed taking Carnivora liquid (15-drops 3-times per day), and Keppra anti-seizure prescription (500mg twice per day). She has presently remained on this 15-drop liquid Carnivora dose, and the results are nothing short of miraculous.
She had received a CT-Scan (Contrasting) of her chest and abdomen on 5/15/17. There is no longer any detectable cancer in her lungs, and the previous CT-Scan of her brain (on March 10) showed no evidence of tumors. The May-15 CT Contrast Scan DID detect two lesions on her adrenal gland and a couple of spots on her bones, but it will require another scan in July to determine if these detected locations are the Cancer: increasing, decreasing, or an unchanging benign condition.
The Neurologist Doctor seemed clueless and had no explanation other than to say that my wife is in remission with a stabilized but guarded condition. Many SCLC patients don’t survive the first 9-months, let alone show promise of remission in less than 5-months. There are few advanced treatments for SCLC; they only exist for non-SCLC.
I have no doubt that Carnivora played a big, if not exclusive part in my wife winning her dubious battle over advanced, metastasized [SCLC] lung cancer. Unfortunately, in an uncontrolled treatment test, we have no proof it was the Carnivora, the Radiology, the Chemotherapy, a Placebo Effect, God’s Intervention, or all of the above. We will need to come-up with a post-cancer, remission program with only the Carnivora, in order to prevent the Cancer’s return.
I will email Joe copies of the Hospital Oncology/ CT-Scan Reports for his perusal, in order to confirm the assertions of my post (if requested).
Joe says
Hi Gary, thanks for the update. I am very happy that your wife is doing better than when you first wrote. No need to send reports. I believe you. At the end of the day, I’m sure everyone here agrees that the important thing is your wife has improved. I will continue to pray for you both that she continues to do so.

Thank you, Joe. I will keep you posted.

Whenever a product review starts off by praising or criticizing the carrier (USPS, UPS, FEDEX, etc.), it smacks of a shill for the maker/seller of the product. Touting quick delivery times is a sales pitch; not an objective review nor even just a favorable testimonial.
In short, if it’s a great product, waiting a few extra days to receive it is worth the wait; but if it’s junk, it doesn’t matter how quickly it arrives- it’s still junk.
Chuck says
Greetings,
I am going to do a 12 week study on myself. I have had a cutaneous wart on my finger for 18 years and nothing has worked both at the doctors office or over the counter. I am a 39 year old male, who has been smoking since I was 30 but have recently given that up. I take supplements, eat fairly healthy, and keep in shape.
I have worked in the “big pharma” world for over 16 years in dermatology, neurology, diabetes, cardiovascular and rare diseases and will tell you that there are very few cures out there for anything. Physicians aren’t inclined to find a cure for diseases either as they are just mechanics. They temporarily cure the symptoms but hardly ever cure the problem. Hepatitis does a have cure from 2 different companies but that takes about 3 months to work but it does cure the disease, however, costs about 80,000.
Anyway, peer reviews aren’t all they are cracked up to be so don’t let that be your sole source of conclusive proof. Many drugs that were peer reviewed have not been effective at all and in fact have killed people.
Now back to my personal human trial, I will go ahead and pay the 45 bucks and start a regimen of 3 capsules per day and monitor the progress to see if the wart disappears. Once I have completed the regimen, I will post my findings. Wishing everyone the best—-
Joe says
Hi Chuck, thank you for sharing your thoughts and I do hope Carnivora helps your wart. I’ll look forward to hearing what happens. Congratulations on giving up smoking too.

Hi Michael, thanks for the study! I added it to the review. I look at it. It does cover several test tube and lab animal studies on venus fly trap compounds. I did not see any human studies mentioned (in other words, has anyone given the compounds to people to see if it helped cancer). Given the popularity of Carnivora, I was a little surprised the researchers did not mention this supplement in their review. Again, thanks for much for bringing this to my attention. Much appreciated!
J. Harris says
I read the article with great interest, as well as many of the referenced articles. The use of human cells in many of the studies mentioned is a very good substantiation of the effects, due to the manner in which it was explained. I usually read German medical studies because they look at everything, ‘alternative’ such as plant sourced treatments and traditional in the same manner – breaking all of it down as chemicals and what they can and cannot due in application.
Much better than many American writings that typically boast their product cures cancer, restores the immunosystem, cures baldness and obesity – all with no side effects cause it’s ‘natural’. Hey, chemicals are chemicals, and the chemical response in the body is just that, regardless of where the chemicals were sourced from. German studies generally also show what the item will not do, or possible unwanted effects it chemically generates as well. I trust that type of honest presentation.
This study in the NIH came across the same way. If you can’t have an explanation of how something chemically works in the body, then you are not armed with the required knowledge on whether or not to use it, often in dire situations in which there is no time for snake oil.
What was missing, however, was the critical amount of each part that must be used to reach an effective threshold level, or to become ‘bioavailable’ to the body to work. And in my case, involving a wolf with cancer due to an incomplete surgical removal, that is a critical factor. Wolf stomachs alone are much higher in acid dissolvants, so I have no idea of how much of the more important parts would possibly be reduced or lost in that part of the digestion.
But I intend to pray to God for even more guidance, and not let me do the wrong thing in what right now is a rapidly approaching terminal condition for this great friend of mine. I will keep you posted either way. Many thanks.
Joe says
J. Harris, I will pray for your friend too.

Thanks for posting this link, Michael. Parts of it are over my head in understanding, but it shows great promise with natural supplements like Carnivora.

So you found no good studies that’s to bad I’ve been smoking for 40 years so I started taking Carnivora about 2 months ago as a preventive measure. Not a nice topic but I have suffered with bad hemorrhoids for about 10 years almost every day. But with Carnivora I haven’t had an episode for about 3 weeks now. I’ve changed nothing else in my lifestyle so myself I’m sold and will continue to take it I think it’s great stuff!
Joe says
Hi Dan, I am very happy you are finding relief from your hemorrhoids.

No claims have been made by anyone (that I am aware of) that Carnivora effectively treats or prevents Alzheimer’s Disease. I know from personal experience that it boost the immune system and according to many, many accounts, it does work (with in conjunction with other nutraceuticals / products like Lymthdrainage, DMSO and others) to treat and cure various types of cancers.
I believe dozens of anecdotal accounts any day over the cancer industries claims of advancement for many cancers except breast, prostate, lymphomas and Leukemia, where real progress has been made. That is not to say some cancers cannot be effectively treated using radiation and surgery (or in combination with alternative treatments like Carnivora) but chemotherapy is still a crap shoot and an awful experience for most, regardless of the ultimate outcome. Remember the cancer industry only touts five year cancer survival rates, which in many cases means only time has been bought, not a cure. https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/

Raymond, while I don’t know much about that site, doing a quick search I found this on the person who runs it: http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2016/05/27/yet-another-woman-with-breast-cancer-lured-into-quackery-by-ty-bollinger-and-holistic-medicine-advocates/ No judging. I know the alternative cancer field is a very contested area with passionate people on both sides of the issue.

Carnivora is the new snake oil. It’s BS. If Ronald Reagan is their premier example and selling point…you should take a lesson from that. Skin and colon cancer and Alzheimers. How much worse does it have to be before you finally rub two brain cells together? Ronnie’s example is everything you need to know that it’s a total waste of your money. Take a sugar pill…it works just as well.
Enough said.
Alison says
Gary,
I believe that you have made a very wise plan. Please keep us posted over the coming months and years on your wife’s condition. Once she goes into remission after conventional treatment, I will be anxious to hear how prevention and maintenance goes with the Carnivora. All the best for your fight!

Gary says
Thank you, Alison. My primary concerns with the double-punch of Chemo and Radiology are the impacts on the recipient’s health and the pain they receive.
Most of the people I had known who went through the normal hospital cancer treatment, and survived, were in their 30’s and 40’s. Most of the ones I’ve known over the age of 60, couldn’t handle the side effects of Chemo or Radiology, and chose to finish their life with dignity, and without the pain of hospital treatment.
The Budwig Diet Protocol does offer an alternative of hope if everything the Hospital offers fails.
Raymond P Kot II, Esq. says
First, I feel really sorry for your wife’s plight and your plight. I suggest begging God for wisdom, courage and discernment. Next, while I am a lawyer and not a doctor, but I do have a good understanding of alternative health and medicine. While my use and my mother’s use of Carnivora for three years has been positive, without side effects, I realize your hesitation to go alternative with such a life and death situation.
If I was faced with such a situation, I would proceed with Gamma knife surgery and radiation, but no chemotherapy. I would then get my loved one to an alternative medicine practitioner, even if it means going to Mexico. Carnivora, DMSO and lymph drainage are all good, but she probably also needs Frankincense Oil and Myrrh Oil too along with a strict diet, removal of red meat and refined sugars along with the removal of all GMO based food from her diet. Good luck, Carnivora is an excellent product and these are much more pleasant alternatives to chemotherapy.
Also worth considering is: https://www.cancertutor.com/budwig/ as well as Dr. Burzynski’s office in the Houston area: http://www.burzynskimovie.com/watch-burzynski/
Gary says
I did check out Dr. Burzynski’s Clinic in Houston. This treatment will cost > $75,000, and I do not have liquid assets nor credit for this cost.
This Burzynski Clinic originated from Switzerland. The Oncology Nurse that was taking care of my wife in the Hospital, in the 1990’s accompanied her sister to Switzerland for this Cancer Treatment. She told us that in the 1990’s the cost was about USD$75K, plus the cost of traveling there.
The World’s best medical treatments are available to those who can afford it. E.g. David Rockefeller is 101-years-old, and he had recently received his seventh (7th) heart transplant.
It’s ludicrous when my medical insurance carrier will spend twice the money on Cancer Treatments which can harm and may not succeed, rather than a Texas or Mexico Medical Clinic that has a proven track record of success, for half the cost.
In the USA we treat the ailment, rather than curing it. It’s a very sad state of reality.

Raymond,
I did check-out the Budwig Diet Protocol. It makes sense; however, I did read many good comments about this simple diet:
https://www.asbestos.com/blog/2013/01/23/budwig-protocol-led-to-dramatic-comeback-for-mesothelioma-survivor/
And only one Doctor who is a quasi-skeptic:
http://www.drweil.com/health-wellness/body-mind-spirit/cancer/budwig-cure-for-cancer/
I see this diet in combination with Carnivora supplements, as an alternative to failed Chemo / Radiology or, as a continued regimen after my wife completes her Hospital therapies.
Since my wife has small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), which allegedly spreads very quickly, it becomes imperative that she receives treatment ASAP.
Thank you very much for your internet links and inspirational thoughts.
Gary says
My wife and I have used Carnivora capsules to treat our bouts of bronchitis. What would normally require >1-week on antibiotics to treat bronchitis, was remedied in 3-days with no bad side effects. Dose varied @ 3-times per day: one capsule in morning, two capsules in afternoon, and three capsules before bed. I continued this Carnivora Treatment for 4-days.
We also used Carnivora on our outdoor feral cat, who had a very bad eye and sinus infection. We used the liquid Carnivora — 5-drops in her water dish 3-times each day. The Carnivora liquid cleared her eyes and sinuses, but we found-out later that she had a bad abscess tooth, which the Carnivora couldn’t cure. The cat wouldn’t eat or drink and, eventually wandered-off and died.
In the last 5-years I have taken Carnivora for internal/external infections, and prefer it to antibiotics and Doctor visits. However, I always wanted to offer it to a friend or work associate that has incurable Stage-4 Cancer. I also never considered it would be my wife who came down with cancer and would be the test subject.
My wife had surgery last Friday (1/6/17) to remove an egg-sized tumor that was badly compressing her brain. The Pathology Report released the following Tuesday (1/11/17) didn’t detect any cancer remaining beyond what the Ct-Scans and MRI-scans showed last week: two very small remaining brain tumors that will be eradicated through (pending) radiology, and a cancerous region in her lung that will be treated through (pending) chemotherapy. The cancer growing in her lung, is presumed to have metastasized from her lung to her brain.
I considered Carnivora to be a less invasive treatment instead of Chemo & Radiology. The problem with Chemo is that it poisons the entire body, and my concerns with radiology to irradiate the two very small tumors remaining in her brain, is that there is potential for this treatment causing irreparable harm to her brain.
One tumor is located in the occipital lobe which controls eye sight. The other tumor is located in the cerebellum which coordinates voluntary muscle movements and to maintain posture, balance, and equilibrium. The Neurosurgeon said that radiology will remove the two tumors; however, it may also damage these portions of her brain, and the damage could become increasingly more evident over the next three to four years. This could lead to possible degenerative degrees of sight and, the inability to walk.
The other problem with alternative “natural” treatments [E.g. Carnivora and CBD oil], is that a hospital cannot provide any supplement treatment that is not FDA approved. If I chose to skip the radiology and chemo, use Carnivora, and my wife goes into seizures, my Medical Insurance could refuse coverage based on my actions of bypassing normal Virginia medical Cancer treatment protocols. I also pondered the Hospital’s adversarial posturing… are they just afraid of an alternative, natural treatment succeeding?
The hospital still has my wife on steroids, and anti-seizure medications, and I cannot use DMSO for brain barrier absorption of the Carnivora. The Carnivora 11-week intervention treatment cost me about $900, and this will be used after they complete the Gama Knife (Stereotactic) Radiosurgery to remove the two small tumors remaining in her Brain. I haven’t decided on whether to go through with the Chemo-drip to remove the cancer in her right lung. I also want to avoid the treatment of gamma radiating her entire brain after the two tumors are removed.
The hardest thing of all, is dealing with doctors and hospital staff wanting to proceed with chemo and radiology, and my wife’s family siblings thinking my carelessness, seeking alternate treatments will kill their sister. My wife has given me permission to make her life decisions… and it sucks having to make this tough decision for a loving wife of 44-years. I could choose Carnivora and save her or, lose her quickly to cancer. I could allow the hospital to proceed with chemo and radiology, which may consequently leave my wife a bed-ridden vegetable for the rest of her life. Furthermore, the hospitals are very proficient at scaring/coercing cancer patients into receiving ineffective and deadly cancer treatments.
This posted reply isn’t a qualified scientific or medical peer review… it’s just an unexpected dilemma in my life that currently, totally SUCKS!
Joe says
Hi Gary, I am so VERY sorry to hear about the issues that your wife – and you – have been going through. I’m sorry to hear about your cat also. I wish I had some answers for you during this very challenging time. I do not. In the winter of 1998 my dad died from throat cancer and less than 3 months after that, my mom died from lung cancer. That was some of the most difficult times I’ve ever went through and even reflecting on it now, takes me back to those days where I felt utterly helpless and alone.
Like yourself, I was even ad odds with family members, making decisions I never thought I’d have to. It ages people to deal with these stresses. I tell you this not to depress you more but to let you know your not alone and it’s normal to feel how you are right now. You want to help your wife. I remember during my dads ordeal how I even considered alternative treatments too.
All I can say is that if I were in your situation, I’d opt for the conventional treatment. I believe it has the best chance of helping your wife. When it comes to any alternative treatment, I think they are best used for prevention. When someone has cancer, I believe they need evidence-based treatments.
I will say a prayer for your wife tonight and for you too, that you find the strength and wisdom you need during this unimaginably difficult time.
Gary says
Thank you kindly for your reply. Your past situation with your parents must have been a terrible ordeal. Your post sums-up my path forward: to opt for the conventional Cancer Treatments, and if she can survive them, she will go on the Carnivora for prevention.
Joe says
Gary, we will all be praying for you and your wife. Do keep us updated on how you both are doing. You are not alone.
Gary says
I’ll stay in touch with everyone here, Joe. Thank you all for your prayers.
ssybesma says
My friend. Carnivora prevents you from doing something else with the money you spent on it. That’s all it prevents. You’re better off listening to a conventional doctor when it comes to cancer. Take ‘normal’ vitamin and mineral supplements if you have to. Stay away from Carnivora and any weird supplements that are not proven by hard research to have any effectiveness. It’s a dead end. It didn’t prevent anything for Ronald Reagan.
Gary says
ssybesma-
I will disagree with your opinion on Carnivora, because I have taken this supplement for skin laceration infections, and bronchitis. Carnivora did work more effectively and faster than antibiotics.
I will partially agree with your opinion on Carnivora with regard to its effectiveness to treat Cancer. Until now, my wife is the first person I know personally that is using this supplement to fight SCLC cancer. As I have stated earlier today, we really won’t know how effective Carnivora is until my wife is scanned/tested after she completes her Chemo.
Furthermore, even if her cancer goes into remission, we won’t know if the cancer’s undetected absence was the result of the hospital’s treatment, diet, Carnivora, prayer, or possibly all four.
I look at the validity of non-invasive natural cancer treatments in the same manner as I would investigate alleged car engines that run on tap water: skeptically.
This is why I followed most peoples’ advice and continued with the Hospitals proposed standard cancer treatments — but incorporate any natural treatment that I can afford, which has worked for me previously, and may work for my wife’s cancer.
BTW: If you investigate Chemotherapy for cancer, the patient is very limited in what vitamins and mineral supplements they can take during treatment. I am fortunate that my wife’s primary care doctor/surgeon will allow alternative natural treatments to supplement the Radiology/Chemotherapy; however, it is an undocumented agreement between us (off the record). Generally, hospitals are not permitted to allow any alternative cancer treatment which is not FDA approved. I can only contend that this treatment restriction exists because the Pharmaceutical Industry essentially runs the FDA. Note: a “natural” supplement cannot be patented, which is why it cannot receive a patent, and will not receive FDA approval (IMHO).
Gary says
Hello Joe, Raymond, Alison, Colin, & Dee Dee.
I’m sorry for taking so long to give an update on my wife’s SCLC (diagnosed after her brain tumor removal surgery on January 6, 2017).
My wife completed her 10-sessions of Radiology on 2/3/17 (5-days per week for 2-weeks). After about a 3-week rest break, she started/completed her first 3-sessions of Chemotherapy yesterday, and will continue with 3-day Chemo sessions every 3-weeks, through June 2017. She is weak but her condition is better than I had expected with Chemo. Please note that my understanding about Chemotherapy was based on how it was over 25 years ago. It treatments today, appear to be milder… but like I said, this may change with her continued Chemo sessions.
The only hospital doctor I feel can be trusted to be completely honest with my wife and me is the Neurosurgeon who removed my wife’s brain tumor, and his Nurse Practitioner. This doctor took the time to not only answer all my questions honestly, he also took the time to review all the hard-copy info I provided him regarding alternate Cancer therapies: cannabinoids, the Budwig Diet, and Carnivora.
The doctor explained (off the record) that many of his patients have smoked marijuana or taken it in edible form to alleviate nausea. The doctor disagrees with the Budwig Diet because he contends that animal-derived proteins (dairy & red meat) may have a more harmful, than helpful effect with treatment of cancer. He gave Carnivora a thumbs-up (off the record) and told me to incorporate this supplement with a proper diet (juicing).
The Carnivora supplement 11-week protocol treatment for cancer came with 4-types of supplements:
1. Carnivora liquid
2. Carnivora capsules
3. Lymph drain supplement
4. DMSO (to help Carnivora pass through the brain barrier to treat tumors).
My wife initially had incorporated the lymph drain supplement and DMSO with Carnivora for the first day (3-treatments). The following morning she woke-up with a massive migraine headache and inner-eye (pressure) pain. I waited 2-days to restart the Carnivora treatments, and excluded using the lymph drain and DMSO. She is currently taking 5-drops of liquid Carnivora in 4-ounces of filtered water, 3-times each day for 5-days; the 6th day she takes Carnivora capsules, and the 7th day she abstains from any Carnivora supplements. So far, there are no problems/reactions. Furthermore, her juice diet provides easily digested nutrition when her appetite is diminished from Chemo.
Another alternative treatment I considered is the Rife Frequency Generator.
https://www.resonantlight.com/perl-m-plus/
More on shattering cancer with resonant frequencies (please also read the comments):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w0_kazbb_U
The effectiveness of this Rife Frequency Emitter unit (like Carnivora) is debatable, and somewhat expensive.
At this point, my wife is calling the shots, and I am providing her with my research to help her make decisions. We will continue with the Chemo sessions, the Carnivora supplements, juice diets, and prayer. We will not know the results of the Chemo/Carnivora/Juice Diet until they test her in July.
Joe says
Hi Garry, thanks for the update on your wife. Still praying for you both. Continued strength through this very challenging time.

Thank you, Joe.

After reading the whole toppic and all the responces I am very curious about your wife, Garry.
How are you two holding up and did the Carnivora do any good for you?
I hope you both okay…
Alison says
Hi Gary,
I am also so sorry to hear about your wife’s condition and for you and the hard choices that you have to make as her husband and care giver. Cancer is terrible and I too have watched family go through treatment.
I enjoy following this Carnivora blog and learning about how people are using it to promote their own health. I just like to listen, but never comment. Until today- because your wife’s case is important to discuss.
I completely support Joe’s response in that the best chance your wife has of beating this cancer is conventional treatment. Treatment by physicians and facilities that have studied, trained and fought these cancers for decades. It is their specialty. It is her best shot.
Carnivora is not a less invasive treatment for cancer.
Carnivora is not a treatment for cancer at all.
There is not a single published scientific study to state that Carnivora can treat cancer. Carnivora may be good for the odd minor ailment but we are now talking about brain and lung cancer.
I know chemotherapy sounds very scary, but chemotherapy is not what it once was. Therapy is now better at targeting the actual cancer cells, side effects are better managed, doses and regimens have been fine tuned over the years. Chemotherapy is still chemotherapy but every year hundreds of studies are published across the world making it more effective and more tolerable.
If you have concerns about the side effects your wife may experience with the type of chemotherapy they are recommending, talk to the oncologist and their team. What side effects do they expect, when will they occur and how do they plan on managing (or helping) your wife through those side effects? Gathering more information may bring you some peace and help guide your final decision.
I wish you well Gary. I will pray for you and your wife.
Joe says
Gary, Alison brings up a good point about how therapies have improved. I had an aunt who had the exact same type of lung cancer as my mom (small cell carcinoma) and she lived 10 years longer than my mom did after her diagnosis and from all accounts had a pretty good quality of life. My aunt was diagnosed just a few years after my mom was. The therapies they have now are better than back then.
I also like the questions Alison brings up to discuss with your doctor
Alison, my thanks for sharing your thoughts too 🙂
Gary says
The biggest problem I see with any alternative “natural” treatment [E.g. Budwig Diet, Carnivora] is that there aren’t many (if any) scientific peer reviews, or Clinical Trial blind tests to replicate claims of a cure. I totally agree with your statement:
“There is not a single published scientific study to state that Carnivora can treat cancer. Carnivora may be good for the odd minor ailment but we are now talking about brain and lung cancer.”
I sincerely thank everyone for their comments and prayers. It helps me greatly to discuss my dire situation with objective, rational minds.

Brother,
I’m praying for your dear wife right now and I am praying that God will deliver to you the wisdom you need to steer the right course.
If I was in your shoes I would consign my wife to the loving arms of Jesus and ask His will for her along with His wisdom and discernment to mark your path forward.
I have two elderly parents age 92 and 91 and things are getting sticky with both of them – and I mean sticky; stroke, dementia, etc. etc. — if Jesus were not in our life I couldn’t deal and neither could my folks. Daily I lay them at the feet of Jesus – He is the author and finisher of our lives whether you know that or not.
God Bless you and your dear wife.

Hi Gary,
I currently am fighting metastatic renal cell carcinoma that metastasized to my right lischium, hip bone that you sit on. I was wondering how your wife is doing? And what chemotherapy they want\are treating her with? Opdivo is an immunotherapy drug and while it didn’t help me I hear it is best for lung cancers and didn’t have the side effects that the others have had, at least for me. I pray for you and your wife.

Sounds like your immune system took over and started to break-down the beginning cancer cells that were producing the abnormal PSA test results. I bet if you would have increased your dose to two carnivora capsules per day your PSA score would have dropped further. The instructions refer to intermediate and advanced immune system challenges, where substantially higher doses are taken over a period of months.
Since they cannot legally say that their product can cure various cancers, they can only instruct in rather vague generalities. My mother and I have been using it for nearly three years. When I get a cold I double the dose for a few days. During our period of use, neither of us has required an antibiotic except for a dental abscess, which I likely had for several months after a failed root canal / root prune. The amazing thing is that this abscess when on for several months without any pain. Essentially my immune system kept the infection in check. I finally had the tooth extracted and a mini titanium implant installed.

I’m speaking from my own personal experiences. At one point my feet were covered in warts in bunches I mean it was hard to even walk at times because they hurt. I tried everything I was going to have laser surgery to remove them, before I did my mothers chiropractor recommended this foot doctor. He was very into natural healing and other things he told me if they removed them it was a good chance they would come back because if your immune system is too low they will come back. He told me to try Carnivora too boost my immune system and see before I had surgery. Two-Three months later my feet were completely clear of warts using Carnivora and bathing my feet in warm water.

I heard about Carnivora through a podcast on Spotify called criminal. The episode was called “dropping like flies” and it focused on Venus fly trap poaching in the states then led into talk about Carnivora.
The host of the show got to speak with the owner of Carnivora and records his statements to various questions. It was interesting when you talk about the Email not allowed to be a US email. Because in the podcast the host was told it was against US law to claim Carnivora cured cancer.
So it was said in other countries that it’s used to “cure cancer” but in the US it’s advertised to “wake up the immune system”. Many things you said in this article connected with what I heard in that podcast. You should take a listen to the episode when you get a chance.
Joe says
Hi Lynette, I believe I’ve heard that interesting podcast. I hope you have a very nice Christmas! 🙂

I used Carnivora capsules as instructed for an elevated PSA of 8.3. The Urologist wanted to do a biopsy. No thanks! Each month the PSA reduced 1 point (I.e. 8.3 to 7.3, then to 6.5 then to 5.5 then to 4.9) but it bounced back to 5.5 and has remained there even though I stopped taking the Carnivora on a regular basis. I stopped because I had an MRI to confirm I probably did not have prostate cancer, and I wasn’t so worried about an elevated PSA after that.
I had no noticeable side effects while taking the Carnivora.
Joe says
Hi Jim, thanks for sharing that. I’m glad you are prostate cancer free!
