I've finally had a chance to sit down and compile a list of Zi Xiu Tang side effects. What follows are the most common ZXT side effects that have been reported by people who commented on my ZXT reviews, Zi Xiu Tang Does it Work and Zi Xiu Tang Weight Loss Supplement Revealed. Below are the most common side effects along with the number of people who reported that side effect. I tried to count every person reporting a side effect only once but given the number of people commenting there may be a couple of duplicates. Not surprising weight loss was the most frequent side effect reported with 16 people reporting this. Keep in mind that there may be more than this. There were many people reporting side effects however I only counted 16 who specifically said it caused “weight loss”. This was followed by (again no surprise) dry mouth. While I tried to be as accurate as possible, keep in mind that this is a very unscientific review of ZXT side effects and is based only on those people who commented. If you have experienced other ZXT side effects not listed here please do mention them. Only in this way can we help people the best.
Update 4/8/14. The FDA warns people to immediately stop taking Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen weight loss supplements. It tested several Zi Xiu Tang products – including those that were said to be “genuine” and not counterfeit. The FDA found that the some products contained not only sibutramine, an illegal weight loss drug but some also contained Phenolphthalein, a chemical that may increase the risk of cancer. See the FDA alert for more information.
Update. 10/24/10. The FDA has determined that Zi XIu Tang contains sibutramine, an illegal weight loss drug. Here is the FDA warning about Zi Xiu Tang for more information.
I have also reviewed ZXT Gold and Slim Trim U so read those review for more info on that product.
Update 7/25/12. ZXT Gold has been found to contain 2 hidden drugs. Supplements should not contain drugs especially when they are not listed on the label. See the ZXT Gold Review for more info on this.

Do you have any different Zi Xiu Tang side effects?
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/SafetyInformation/SafetyAlertsforHumanMedicalProducts/ucm326341.htm
I’ve been taking it for 4 months, in the first 3 months I lost 25lb with no exercise and the last month I’m stuck at the same weight so I think exercise is now needed. Now for the side effects and the proper way to take it as it was explained to me by the retailer who took them herself and she’s a friend of mine.
Proper way to taking the pills – take 2 pills in the morning 1 hour before eating… drink lots a water during the day, and I mean A LOT at least 96oz 112oz or more recommended.
side effects – wight loss, at first loss of appetite to the point were I had to force feed myself that lasted only about a month, dry mouth, frequent bathroom visits #1 and #2, lack of sleep and at first I had chest tightness so I went to the doctor and my heart rate and blood pressure was normal, it went away after about a month of taking the pills.
Now, about the water intake, I did notice that if you do not drink enough you get the chest tightness, more hyper and you feel like crap altogether!! So drink lots of water!!!!!
I’m 45, 5’7″ was at 210lb now I’m at 185lb and my goal is to get to 175lb
Would I recommend it? Only to healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 55 otherwise stay way!! Pleas, Please if you have any existing health issues especially heart, kidney or liver DO NOT take it!!!
hope this helps.
I have suffered with PCOS for 15 years which makes it impossible to lose weight. I started working out last January and for 9 months lost nothing. Someone suggested trying these, I did, and have lost 30lbs so far. For me its a miracle! I have not suffered from any of the side effects everyone else is reporting. I just feel great all around! I never felt jittery, anxious, or anything else.
I do agree tho, as a precaution, if you know you have any heart issues don’t take them.
I have taken zi xiu tang religiously for 8 months now with a 2-4 week break every three months. There were days when I HD a racing heart, had dry mouth but that has subsided and I hkt plateaus about every 3 -4 weeks. My bowels are moving frequently which I have been constipated most of my life. I have lost almost 60 lbs in 8 months and I couldn’t be happier. I follow suggestions of the distributor and honestly have no regrets whatsoever.
All of the symptoms that people are listing here are signs of dehydration. Are you drinking the recommended amount of water? Probably not. Are you eating regularly? I make sure i do these thing and I have had no complaints. I love bee pollen.
tmts, Its not only dehydration that can cause those side effects. dry mouth is also a side effect of sibutramine, which zi xiu tang was found to contain according to the FDA. Dont believe the hype about bee pollen, it does nothing for weight loss.
I started these pills on April 29 (Mon). In 7 days I lost about 7 lbs and was very excited bc of how well it worked. The only effects I truly experienced was dry mouth no matter how much water I drank. The following Monday (May 6) I woke up with bad heart palpitations and completely lost my sense of taste.
I have been under a lot of stress lately so wondered if it was the pills or just stress, so I took no pills on Monday. I tried remaining calm through the day and not letting the little things get to me. FF to the next day, I woke up, felt okay, so took just one pill. Not even 15 minutes later, my face started burning and I got a tingly feeling in my face, neck, both arms and back. On top of that, I was having severe panic attacks. I honestly felt like it was over for me. I actually felt claustrophic in my own skin and got that sense of “impeding doom” they call it. I must have had some sort of allergic reaction, mixed with anxiety.
After speaking with a family member who is a nurse, she felt I did not need the ER unless symptoms worsened through the night, but in time it would pass. She believed it to be just an allergic reaction, mixed with anxiety and possibly a pinched nerve causing the tingling.
Today, it has been over 24 hours since I took that one pill and I have been drinking water religiously to try to flush my system. I feel much better, but still not up to par. I am very weak and drained. I strongly feel these pills are not good for you. They dehydrate you too much, too quickly. I honestly got the biggest scare of my life yesterday and would never wish that feeling upon anyone.
Is losing a few pounds the quick and easy way worth it if your life could be on the line? I understand not everyone has experienced this effect and possibly I was allergic, but just thought I would share my experience. I have tried every diet pill out there and this one, yes, it does work, but it can come with some very, very bad side effects.
You do not know if they are laced with the SIbutramine (which is why they were recalled in the past). My father took this as well, and had similar symptoms to me and my sister got very light-headed and nauseous, even after eating and drinking. So they can effect everyone differently. Hope this review helps a little.
Jennifer, thanks for writing and so sorry you had those side effects. Really glad to hear you are feeling better now. I still believe that zi xiu tang “works” because its been spiked with something not listed. I think that is sibutramine and maybe something else. either way, this is not a product I would recommend.
I have been taking the pills for 4 days now. I’m not big on weighing myself, so I don’t really know if I lost weight, but I do feel like my pants are a little looser. Other than my throat being a little dry and having to use the bathroom more than normal, I feel absolutely fine.
Of course after reading all the bad reviews I have a knot in my stomach and feel like my heart is racing (but I tend to work myself up over nothing). I’ve had no trouble with this product thus far, and I plan on continuing them for the time being. Obviously I’m going to be much more aware of how my body is acting and will stop at the first sign of any kind of trouble(if any).
Like one of the other comments, I too got mine from my gym, where I actually work part time. This product has been flying off the shelves, and so far I haven’t heard any complaints from other members other than the dry throat.
Has anyone noticed urinary tract infections with the ZXT silm?? burning with urination or ejactulation?
wow these are all over facebook. One pages called Be Inspired Naturally they are selling them under other names relabling blank bottles, the seller herself told me she found out about them thru an Asian co worker! extreme thirst frequent urine, change in color of the bowels and just not feeling right. i tried to talk to her about them but she is claiming they are natural nothing is in them, yea right I lost 7 lbs in 3 days!!
Oh there is something in them alright….I’m surprised nobody yet has called these pills an “ancient Chinese secret.”
I feel like I am going to throw up, but don’t, then chills hit my whole body. This happens everyday.
Mike, stop taking zi xiu tang.
I’m not sure what to think after reading all of this. I started taking the pills 3 days ago and yes, I have experienced dry mouth. I havea an under-active thyroid, I’m 49 and well into peri-menopause. I do not loose weight easily and yes that’s even with exercising. I need something to kick my body into gear so to speak, so I wanted to try this. I eat very little white flour, a lot of fruit, veggies, nuts, low fat foods and the weight does not come off. I’m beyond frustrated. Why on earth would my gym be able to sell something that has an illegal substance?
Karen, what gym sold you these pills? Unfortunately the FDA sent a warning letter to the public – a letter that was generated after one of the distributors contacted the FDA and specially asked them to test it. I don’t know why the FDA does not stop all imports of Zi Xiu Tang.
I have been taking Zi Xiu Tang for 8 days now and for the past 6 days I have been experiencing severe chest pains. I have to drink and eat slowly because it feels like it gets stuck in my chest and it hurts so bad! I thought it was gas at first, but this is different. Can you please tell me if this is related to the product? Do I need to see a doctor? I want to keep taking this product because I have lost 7 pounds so far and want to lose 20 more. What should I do?
Kelly, yes I believe its due to the product. Stop taking it today and I recommend you go to your doctor today. Take the zi xiu tang with you and tell the doctor about the FDA warning about how this product may contain Sibutramine. Please let me know what happens.
Side effects… I was rushed to the ER with sharp pains on my right side under my rib cage. After FIVE days in the hospital I was diagnosed with having gallbladder stones and gastritis as a result from taking Zi Xiu Tang. I recommend no one take this supplement. It does help you lose weight, I had dry mouth no matter the amount of water I drank.
I also had metallic taste in my mouth after a mouth of use. The risk of harming your whole digestive system is not worth it.
I must admit I read this forum along with many others and still decided to take these pills. I lost ten pounds the first week which was great, aside from the constant diarrhea and dry mouth.
I know of many people personally who have had significant weight Loss with no abnormal feelings, so I kept taking them despite the warnings I read online. I decided that since the FDA recall was a while ago they must have fixed the problem and everything would be fine. About three Weeks into my new diet pills I noticed I was getting flutters in my chest, nothing major just made me stop and say ok that was weird, and continue my day. During the fourt
h week I was on vacation and woke up in the middle of the night with rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath and feeling faint. I stayed up for four hours to make sure nothing else would happen or escalate, it armed to get better so I went to bed.
I decided to stop taking the pills for a few days to give my body a break. Four days later I decided to start then again, taking my normal two pills a day kind of shrugging off my vacation scare ( which has been downplayed because I don’t want to write a book up here).
Long story short, I just got out of the hospital at 9 after waking up at 230am to have an ambulance pick me up because I was unable to catch my breath, having uncontrollable muscle spasms, slurred speech and severe chest pain.
Note: I am not on any other medication prescription or over the counter. I am 24 years old and truly feared for my life this morning. This is why I am writing my story up here, first thing out of the hospital march 2013, second is dumping these in the drain.
It goes to show that even though someone you know has tried it and it worked for them, you don’t know if your body will react the same or negatively until its too late.
even though I read everyone elses before I took it, I’m hoping I can save at least one person from making my horrible mistake. I thought at one point I would do anything to lose weight but now I realize I’m not ready to die for it.
Joellen, so sorry you went through all of that. I am glad you are out of the hospital and I will say a prayer for your speedy recovery. If you could, please share my post with your friends so they also are aware of this.
I used a product with the same ingredients and had some of the same side effects. I had headaches the first couple of days then days later I couldn’t sleep. My body was shaking and my mouth was very dry. This morning my heart was racing and I had a jittery feeling in my chest. Yesterday was when I stopped taking the pills. I used the pills for 6 days and took 2 a day. Thank god I stopped.
I started taking these pills about May of last year. I actually loved the way I felt–more energy, no longer frequently constipated, reduced appetite, no longer craving sweets and I dropped about 30 pounds in 6-7 months without even trying.
In November, my wife and I went through a serious relationship trauma that stressed me beyond imagination. In December, I went to an urgent care center because of my heart racing and skipping. They confirmed I was in atrial fibrillation. They immediately put me on Digoxin and set me up with an appointment to see a cardiologist.
A few day later I saw the Cardiologist and everything seemed to be back to normal. Was it just the stress I was under, or was it the ZiXiuTang? Because I wasn’t sure, I dropped from 2 pills per day down to one. In late Jan, I felt the palpitations again. I was in to see the Cardiologist the next day and he confirmed I was in AFib again.
This time I quit the ZiXiuTang completely. He put me on Metoprolol and Xarelto. I saw him a week later and was still in AFib. Two weeks ago I went into the hospital for a Cardioversion where they shock my heart back into normal rhythm.
Everything seems to be ok now, but I’m certain it was the ZiXiuTang. I wish it wasn’t. I loved the results and the way I felt, but I’m not willing to sacrifice the health of my heart for a few pounds.
Peter, next time you see the cardiologist tell him/her you were taking zi xiu tang and about the FDA letters concerning sibutramine.
Sorry for all that you went though…
I did some research on these pills before I bought them. I decided that being able to eat the same and lose weight fast out weighed the side effects and some bad things I read.. worst choice ever!
I started taking these pills on friday the 8th. Over the weekend I obviously was thirsty and was drinking a lot more water as directed, all seemed normal and I kept taking them. I noticed monday morning that my pupils were dilated and I had a slight headache, didn’t think much of it.
Tuesday is when I decided these pills had to go, I wanted nothing more to do with them. Woke up to my right pupil dilated, but not my left. Both of my eyes reacted the same to bright light, but once I walked back to a normal light my right pupil stayed bigger than my left (still had a headache).
Tuesday afternoon I put maybe 15 dishes in the dish washer, so nothing to get my heart rate going but I had a radiating pain in my chest which scared me to death. I usually never check my heart rate, so I’m not sure if it was a little faster than normal but I felt weird monday and tuesday. Something was just off.
Don’t make the same mistake I did, do not take these pills. Luckily I only took them for 5 days so my side effects should go away once this drug is completely out of my system.
Probably going to see a doctor about my pupils if they are still dilated in a couple days.
Rebecca, please go to your doctor and get your pupils checked out. Don’t wait a few days.
I had taken zi xiu tang for 6-7 months. I didn’t lose a lot but I reached my goal and even though I wasn’t losing any more I wasn’t gaining either. I did my research, even found your page and truly believed it was only the “fakes” that had the bad effects. I was trying to listen to my body and decided I would stop if I felt anything not right.
The only side effect I had was dry mouth. So I continued to take them. I finally decided I should stop just because I didn’t know for sure plus I was tired of the dry mouth. It’s been a week or so since I stopped and I feel aweful.
I have confusion, headaches and indigestion. At first I didn’t know what to think but after researching a hundred different possibilities I googled zi xiu tang again and found the FDA warning. The more and more I read about sibrutromine I am thinking my symptoms are from taking this pill.
Should I see the Dr? Or will I start feeling better now that I stopped taking them? And if so, how long before it is completely out of my system?
Debbie, please go to your doctor today. Take the bottle with you and the FDA reports too so they can see it. If nothing else, this will give you peace of mind and help you to sleep better.
I have been taking zxt bee pollen for Almost 2 weeks now at first I had dry mouth and I isn’t think much of it but now I cannot make a bowl movement without additional medication (stole softener) and I cannot sleep very well I only sleep maybe a couple of hours a night and my body temperate is constantly changing one moment I’m freezing the next I’m burning up I’m only 18 and have never had any of these issues before so I know it has to be the bee pollen
Victoria, please stop taking the pills. its just not worth it!
I am having the same problem right now. I have read the comments and am scared to take it. when I drop another four pounds I am quiting. My bowels look scary and are certainly different when i had to take laxatives and did go.
Savannah, you know my thoughts on the matter – don’t take it. nothing is worth what that stuff might do to you. 4 pounds is not worth it.
i don’t have a heart condition, I’m afraid that it will give me a heart condition.. with all the tightness in my chest.. This morning im feeling a lil better.. the lump feeling in my throat isn’t as bad as yesterday.. but yes im stopping them.. its not worth it after all the side effects im seeing just after 6 days of using them..
I agree Monica, its just not worth it.
I have been taking Zi Xiu Tang, for about 5 days now.. the first night i felt a bit tipsy then the last 2 day i have felt a lump in my throat, my chest seems kinda tight, and i can feel my limp nodes are swollen. me and a friend went half on a bottle.
They are becoming big on FB because they are being made with this new anti-counterfit label. which send you to a website to reg. the bottle. This will be my last day taking these pills because something is not right. My friend is not having any symptoms but also she takes one pill a day and i take 2.. The girl whom i bought them from has been on it for 3 months so now she is a distributor her in FL and they are getting well known.
i told her about my side effects and she says she has never heard of they type of effects i am having. All i need to do is loose 10 pounds to make my Navy weight but with a heart condition my dreams are OVER.
These pills are not worth it and so glad i found this website, im so tempted to post this site on FB because so may people are getting these pills. Hopefully i will start to feel better over the next few days. BUT THEY ARE MAKING A COMBACK..
Monica, I think its best that you not use zi xiu tang esp given you said you had a heart condition. Please share my reviews with your friends. Ive written several reviews on this and other “zxt” supplements and I don’t trust any of them.
this is my 2nd week on Zi Xiu Tang. went from 173 to 165. I do have a KNOT in my throat and I feel nauseous often, but I think this is because I haven’t been eating much. No app @ ALL. I have to force myself to eat something. I also have a constant runny nose!
Dry mouth during the 1st week but not much now. I’m going to finish the bottle but I have to say the reviews are scaring the HELL OUT OF ME! on the web site I purchased my pills from it specified that another co. put their label on it and added some sort of drug and this is why the FDA would not approve it. not sure how true that is tho….
I took ZXT slim for about 6 days. I just didn’t feel myself on it and as a result I still have a massive headache! I see a few others have had this same problem, how long does it take you to feel normal again after stopping taking these pills?! I want this headache gone now!
Michelle, I recommend you stop taking zxt slim. I dont feel good with that really bad headache you said you experienced. Im not sure how long it would take for you to feel normal again but my gut instinct is, pretty fast after you stop taking it. If you don’t feel better with a day or that headache doesn’t go away or gets worse PLEASE go to your doctor. Show them the pills you are taking and tell them about how the FDA has found meridia (sibutramine) in similar “zxt” products.
