Update 2/16/20. Can SeroVital raise human growth hormone (HGH) by 682%, reduce wrinkles, decrease body fat or increaase your bone density? Can it make you look –and feel- DECADES younger? You've seen the SeroVital commercials on TV and you may have wondered if it really worked. In this review, I'll help you better understand SeroVital by breaking it down into questions and answers. I'll show you the research and the pros and cons and help you figure out if SeroVital is right for you.
1. What Is Growth Hormone?
Human growth hormone (HGH) is a hormone made in the brain. It's also called somatotropin (so-mat-to-tro-pin). By whatever name you call it by, HGH does a LOT of things such as:
- Helping muscles grow
- Helping fat loss
- Helping collagen formation
- Helping the immune system
- Helping brain functioning
We tend to make less HGH as we get older and this is why people are interested in this hormone as a way to turn back the clock of aging and help us grow younger again. Some people might even take HGH injections too. SeroVital is not the same thing as HGH injections you may get from your doctor.
2. What Is A Secretagogue?
This very complicated word is pronounced “se-kreet-a-gog.” It's a science term and refers to anything that makes your body secrete something. SeroVital contains secretagogues (amino acids and herbs) which, are supposed to help your body secrete (produce) more growth hormone.
3. Don't Confuse HGH With HCG
HGH – human growth hormone – is not the same thing as HCG. HCG refers to a pregnancy hormone called human Chorionic Gonadotropin. People sometimes use HCG to help with weight loss.
See the HCG review for more on this.
4. Who Makes SeroVital?
The company is called SanMedica International. They hold the patent on SeroVital too. It's US Patent Number 8,551,542 Here is the US patent if you want to read it.
5. Contact SeroVital
The company address is 5742 W Harold Gatty Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84116-3777. Two other companies are also at this address:

See the BBB files for updates and more information.
7. The SeroVital Box Controversy
Depending on where you purchased this supplement, you may or may not see “HGH” on the box. Most boxes of SeroVital contain the letters HGH – which stands for human growth hormone. But some -like the box I have – do not. Why?
While it's hard to know for sure, in the comments below someone had mentioned that SeroVital purchased from Costco does not contain the HGH reference. So whether or not you see HGH may be related to where you purchased it from.
Does SeroVital really raise HGH 682%? Well, the box does say “Clinically Tested 682% Mean Increase” – but if you look closely, it doesn't say a 682% increase in HGH.
8. SeroVital Research
There is clinical research on this dietary supplement. The SeroVital study title is Elevated Growth Hormone 120 Minutes a Single Low Dose of Amino Acids in Healthy Subjects.” This investigation was presented at an Obesity Society meeting in 2012.
This investigation involved 16 people (12 men and 4women) in their 30s. The study lasted 2 weeks. During one week, people took SeroVital, and the next week, they received a placebo. Researchers tested growth hormone levels were measured at 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after taking the supplement or placebo.
Results: These researchers found HGH levels were higher 120 minutes after taking SeroVital compared to placebo. Levels of IGF-1 were also noted to be higher 8 hours later. IGF-1 is the molecule that is actually responsible for many of HGH effects.
Another Study
Another study was presented at the 2019 Endocrine Society Conference (ENDO 2019). This investigation contained 45 people (mostly women) with low HGH levels. The presented study noted SeroVital raised IGF-1 levels and HGH levels. The study sounds fascinating but it may not yet be published. When the study is published, this secion will be updated.
9. SeroVital Study Problems
The SeroVital research study does show it raises HGH levels. Here are my thoughts on the study:
1. The study doesn't seem to be peer-reviewed. It was presented at the Obesity Society as an abstract (an abstract is a summary of research). The study is listed with ClinicalTrials.com and was completed in 2012.
2. The study involved 16 people, mostly men.
3. The study showed HGH levels were higher 120 minutes after taking SeroVital.
4. This investigation did not measure:
- body fat
- testosterone levels
- muscle strength
- wrinkles
Grated some of this will take longer to see a difference.
5. This study involved people in their 30s. Since this is an anti-aging supplement, it would have been nice to involve older people.
10. What Are Normal HGH Levels?
According to Medline Plus, normal HGH levels for men and women are:
- Men: 1 – 9 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml)
- Women 1 – 16 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml)
11. SeroVital Benefits
The company says HGH is associated with:
- Reduced body fat
- Improved mood & energy
- Heightened sex drive
- Stronger bones
- Increased lean muscle mass
- Reduced appearance of wrinkles
Remember, the benefits of HGH do not necessarily mean SeroVital has the same benefits.
12. SeroVital Ingredients
SeroVital contains 5 amino acids and 1 herb. According to the box I have, 4 capsules of SeroVital have the following ingredients:
Amount Per Serving | Percent Daily Value | |
---|---|---|
Proprietary Blend Containing | 2.9 grams | |
L Lysine HCL | N /A | |
L Arginine HCL | N /A | |
Oxo-Proline | N /A | |
N-Acetyle L Cysteine | N /A | |
L Glutamine | N /A | |
Schizonepeta (arial parts) Powder | N /A |
Other ingredients that are also listed in SeroVital are:
- Gelatin
- Steric Acid
- Magnesium Stearate
- Titanium Dioxide
- Rice Flour
- Microcrystalline Cellulose
- Candurin Silver Fine
- Yellow # 5
- Silicon Dioxide
- Yellow #6
These other ingredients play no role in the benefits of the supplement.
If we look at the 6 main ingredients (4 amino acids and 1 herb) we see 4 capsules of SeroVital has a total of 2.9 grams for all of the ingredients.
Let's look at the HGH research for the ingredients in SeroVital.
Lysine
Lysine makes up most of the ingredients in the supplement. Lysine is an essential amino acid (essential means we don't make it ).
In a 1981 study, lysine alone did not raise HGH levels – in young men – when it was combined with the amino acid, arginine. The amount used in this investigation was 1200 mg of lysine and 1200 mg of arginine.
In a 1993 study, the combination of lysine and arginine did not raise HGH levels in older men compared to placebo. This study used 3 grams of lysine and 3 grams of arginine used 2x per day for 2 weeks.
Researchers in Finland noted 2 grams of lysine did not raise HGH levels in weight lifters who were 19-35 years of age.
Arginine
Arginine is a non-essential amino acid (we can make it). It's the second most abundant ingredient in Serovital.
In one study, researchers noted the combination of 1500 mg of arginine and 1500 mg of lysine, raised HGH levels. Ironically, the amino acids did not raise HGH levels when people exercised. That's odd.
Another study reported that both 5g and 9g of arginine raised growth hormone levels in young men more than a placebo. In another investigation, 6 grams of arginine did not raise HGH levels (or other hormones) in 15 runners compared to a placebo.
In a 2007 study, arginine used for 7 days didn’t raise HGH or IGF-1 in adults. These people took 7 grams of arginine per day.
In this paper, the researcher states while both arginine and exercise increased HGH levels. But, when combined together, the rise is less than seen with exercise alone.
In another paper, it was noted arginine, given before strength training reduced HGH levels. These researchers gave people 0.075 mg of arginine per kilogram of body weight
Translation: there are 2.2 pounds in a kilogram. So, if you were 180 lbs (82 kg), you’d get 0.075 x 82 =6.15 grams of arginine.
Oxo-Proline
Oxyproline, also known as pyroglutamic acid is a type of amino acid. Evidence for oxo-proline raising HGH in people cannot be located.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine
Another name for this stuff “NAC”. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is a version of the amino acid cysteine. In supplements, NAC is often used to increase glutathione, a powerful antioxidant.
Here's NAC on Amazon
Glutamine
Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid. In a study from 1995, researchers noted 2 grams of glutamine, raised HGH levels in 8 of 9 healthy men (32-64 years of age). SeroVital contains only 1 mg of glutamine in 4 capsules.
See the review on glutamine for more insights.
Schizonepeta
Schizonepeta is an herb. Other names for this include Jing Jie and Japanese Catnip. Does schizonepeta raise HGH levels? Evidence cannot be located. Preliminary evidence suggests this herb may have anti-inflammatory properties. There is speculation cellular inflammation may reduce HGH levels.
13. Ingredients With Evidence
Based on the research which could be located, ingredients with the most HGH research are:
To be fair, it is possible the unique blend in the product may work better than any single ingredient.
14. SeroVital And Fertility
Growth hormone (HGH) is involved in both female and male fertility. So it makes sense some might wonder if SeroVital can help a woman get pregnant. Research linking Serovital to pregnancy cannot be located.
15. SeroVital And Birth Control Pills
There is no evidence SeroVital interferes with birth control pills. Women who are concerned about this are encouraged to speak to their pharmacist for more insights.
16. SeroVital And HIV
People with HIV/AIDS may be interested in natural ways to boost growth hormone levels. Can SeroVital help? No evidence can be located. For now, the best advice is to show the ingredients to a doctor/pharmacist and see what they say.
17. How To Take SeroVital
The company recommends taking take 4 capsules of SeroVital on an empty stomach, either 2 hours before meals or about 2 hours before going to bed. Taking the capsules on an empty stomach, however, appears necessary.
Do not take more than SeroVital 4 capsules per day.
These same directions also hold true for the liquid concentrate version too. SeroVital Liquid has the exact same ingredients as the capsules.
18. What's Growth Factor 9?
Growth factor 9 (GF9) is another supplement touted to raise HGH. Growth Factor 9 has the same ingredients as Serovital. The Growth Factor 9 package mentions SeroVital.
19. What's Thrive HGH
Thrive HGH is a supplement by the company called Limitless World Wide LLC. Thrive HGH contains the same ingredients as SeroVital.
20. SeroVital vs. Growth Factor 9 vs. Thrive HGH
Here are the ingredients in all 3 supplements side-by-side
SeroVital | Growth Factor 9 | Thrive HGH |
Blend 2.9g made of | Blend 2.9 g made of | Blend 2.9g made of |
L Lysine | L Lysine | L Lysine |

- 3 different supplements
- 3 different names

21. SeroVital vs. GenF20?
GenF20 is another supplement reported to improve HGH levels. No studies could be located which compare these supplements to each other. GenF20 other ingredients like Tribulus Terrestris. For more information see the GenF20 review.
22. Where Can You Buy SeroVital
This supplement is very popular and can be purchased at many locations such as Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Target, Walmart, Khols, Bed Bath and Beyond, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Costco, Ulta Beauty, and many online retailers.
23. SeroVital Cost
When purchasing from SeroVital.com a bottle costs $99 for a one-month supply. If you go on their Preferred Customer Program (auto-ship program), the price is $79.20. Both prices include free shipping.
24. The Preferred Customer Program
The SeroVital preferred Customer Program is their auto-ship program. If you choose this option, the company will send you a new shipment of the supplement every 28 days. Your credit card will be charged $79.20 per month.
25. How To Return SeroVital
SeroVital is sold at many local stores so returning it to where you purchased it is the fastest way to get a refund. If you bought it from the its website, the company lists this address for returns:
Attention Returns Department: 5742 Harold Gatty Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84116. They also list this phone number: 1-800-898-5153 where people can get more specific information. I recommend you call the company before sending it back so you know exactly how to do it.
26. Is SeroVital FDA Regulated?
All dietary supplements are regulated. Many don't know this but it is true. While the FDA does not test supplements, there is a regulation. The supplement law is called The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). It's been in effect since 1994.
27. Is It Made In America?
Yes, the company which makes it is located in Utah.
28. Can SeroVital Change The Microbiome?
Does SeroVital impact gut health? While clinical studies cannot be located, preliminary research shows arginine can alter the bacteria in the mouth. So, while it's possible SeroVital may positively impact the microbiome, the best way to ensure a healthy gut is to eat lots of fruits, veggies, beans, and seeds.
29. SeroVital Hair And Skin?
Some people have reported, SeroVital HGH has lead to better-looking skin (see comments). This is interesting but no clinical studies so far have looked at this.
30. Is SeroVital Gluten-Free?
I'm not sure. The website did not say either way when this review was updated. Rice flower is part of the “other ingredients” but according to the Celiac Disease Foundation, rice is naturally gluten-free.
The best way to know for sure is to call the company. You can reach them at 801-517-7007.
31. What Happens If you Stop Taking It?
In theory, if you were seeing benefits from and stop taking SeroVital, you'd likely go back to where you were to begin with. How long this might take to happen I can't say. If you combined it with exercise and eating a better diet, how far you might slide downhill would likely be less. There are no clinical studies showing what happens to people after they take SeroVital for several months and then stop taking it.
32. Do You Have To Take It Forever?
If you are happy with SeroVital HGH and stopped taking it, in theory, you might go back to where you started. How long this might take to occur is not known.
33. Can Teenagers Take SeroVital?
Teenagers are teeming with growth hormone so there is no reason for them to take this supplement. The supplement website says not to take it if you are younger than 18.
34. Is SeroVital Better With An NAD Booster?
This supplement is touted to be an anti-aging. Some of the most popular anti-aging supplements today are things like Tru Niagen, Niacel and Elysium Basis. These supplements are said to slow aging by raising a compound called NAD levels our cells. Whether or not SeroVitalHGH would work better with a NAD supplement is unknown. No study has looked at this (yet). For more information see these reviews:
35. SeroVital And Weight Loss
While growth hormone may be associated with reduced body fat, there is no evidence SeroVital burns fat or helps people lose weight. If you are taking it for weight loss, any effects would be magnified If you combined the supplement with exercise and eating fewer calories.
36. Does SeroVital Contain HGH?
No. There is no human growth hormone in this supplement. The ingredients in the supplement are supposed to help your body to make more of its own HGH naturally.
37. Does It Have The Side Effects Of HGH?
While HGH is a necessary hormone, too much HGH associated with some bad things such as:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Joint pain
- Diabetes
- Fluid build up causing swelling
SeroVital will not produce the same side effects as too much HGH.
38. Can It Help Me Grow Taller?
Growth hormone therapy is sometimes prescribed by doctors to help kids grow taller. That said, there is no proof this supplement would help a child or adult grow taller. When in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
39. Is Powdered SeroVital Better?
The Rapid Dissolve Crystalline Powder version of SeroVital contains the same ingredients and amounts as the capsules. The big advantage of the powdered version is if you did not like swallowing pills.
40. Is Maximum Strength Better?
When I looked into this, I noticed some websites selling “Maximum Strength” SeroVital but the ingredients – and amounts of ingredients – are identical to “regular strength.”. I did not see Maximum Strength listed on the supplement's official website. Could the max strength product be counterfeit? When in doubt, call the company and ask them.
41. Can Men Use SeroVital?
Yes, you can. Remember, even though the product is advertised to women, the SeroVital study mostly consisted of men.
42. SeroVital Side Effects
I think SeroVital is safe in healthy people. While there isn’t a bunch of any single ingredient, here are a few things to keep in mind and ask your doctor about if you think they apply to you. This list is not complete:
- Start with less than recommended for the first week to see if you have any side effects
- N-Acetyl-Cysteine and arginine may reduce blood pressure. Consider if you take high blood pressure medicine
SeroVital HGH Supplement Stop taking SeroVital at least 2 weeks before surgery
- Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding also
- If you have a history of cancer, speak to your doctor. Remember, HGH causes things to grow.
- Schizonepeta contains a compound called pulegone which might damage the liver in high amounts. Schizonepeta is the last ingredient listed, so there is not much in the supplement. If you have liver problems, speak to your doctor first.
- If you take any medications like blood thinners, speak to your doctor and pharmacist
On the plus side, some people -in the comments below – have said their skin looked better after taking SeroVital
Some online reports -which cant be confirmed -suggest the supplement might cause:
Constipation | Acne | Swollen hands/feet |
Dizziness | Lethargy | Headaches |
The odds of any of these happening is unknown. These may be isolated incidents not likely to occur in most people. Like many things in the supplement world, results – and side effects- may vary.
43. SeroVital Pro & Con
Here is a quick overview of what I liked and didn't like about this supplement. These are my opinions. Take them for what they are
Pro | Con |
Wildly available in stores | Very expensive |
Been around several years | Lots of hype |
It has a US patent | Low-quality study |
Growth Factor 9 and Thrive HGH are the same thing as SeroVital | |
No clinical proof it does what HGH does |
44. Does SeroVital Work?
To be honest, I have my doubts but since I did not try SerVital myself, I can't say for sure if it works or not. To be fair, some people, provided testimonials below, saying this supplement helped them. For those who take this supplement, it's important to remember it's best if you also eat well and exercise. Kudos to the SeroVital company for also saying this too.
Here it is on Amazon
This was a nice site to discover. I will spend more time reading about Serovital, but right now after reading all of the possible negative side effects I am afraid to take it! My cholesterol is really high still. I have been trying to control it with red yeast rice & exercise. I believe a serious diet modification will help along with eating less.
I do not eat meat but I still eat way too many sweets, nuts, chips, etc. These are dynamite for putting on fat! I am not a big believer in any magic pill anyway. They just don’t work, or if they do work, then you have to keep taking them for the rest of your life!
Don’t you think that modifying one’s lifestyle is the way to keep trim & healthy? It’s just getting there that is a royal pain!
Hi Nancy, how long have you been using the red yeast rice? Has it lowered your cholesterol? If I remember, much of the research Ive seen involved a product called “cholestin” although any quality product should work similarly. Yes I am a fan of altering lifestyile. One book you might want to take a look at is “How Not To Die.” Its a fascinating book that breaks down many of the various killers and shows how eating more fruits, veggies etc can improve them. Its one of the most interesting books I’ve read in a long time.
So glad you found my site 🙂
thank you for writing this well-written article! It was everything I wondered about and you addressed everything with research and logic! Well organized and just perfect! thank you again. 🙂
Hi Cheryl, you are most welcome 🙂
Just wanted to weigh in. I started taking serovital hgh about a month ago. I have had severe nausea, stomach pain, headaches, and muscle pain. I have stopped taking the product but wasn’t sure if my symptoms were related so I started looking for side effects. Just thought I’d share my experience.
Hi Denise, thanks for sharing what happened to you. Did your symptoms go away after you stooped taking it?
Denise, I too have been on a month of Serovital at first I’d lost 3 pounds in a very short time but gained it back. Then started having body aches and headaches, I cut down on the dosage to 2 a day only and my body aches went away.
I keep taking them because when I have for 2 days in a row my hot flashes come back so I stay on them. I probably go buy the individual vitamin that helps with the hot flashes and stick with that.
As many have requested, I’m writing a review on GenF20 Plus. Does anyone have a label of the product (liquid and capsules) you can email me? Just email me and I’ll reply back. if you can snap a pick with your phone and email them to me that would be great. Thanks!
Thank you for this. Very helpful and well researched.
Tom, you are most welcome 🙂
Joe,
Nice Web page. I appreciate your findings since many of the testimonials appear to have some sort of side effect and trying to isolate the ingredient list, and portions, has not been easy.
I will say my wife has had systemic, fibromyalgia type body/joint aches for the past 12 years following a rough delivery of our second child. Her pain has worsened over the years, especially at night, causing great difficulty with sleeping and we have found nothing to alleviate the pain other than maybe prescription sleep aids that would force her to go to sleep.
After literally 2 days with the sero vital her pain completely disappeared. You can imagine her complete relief of finally being pain free. Unfortunately after about 2 weeks on the supplement she’s developed hives. She cut back to 2 capsules yesterday and another episode of hives again today (ironically it’s about 22 hours after taking the serovital).
So no more capsules until we figure out what’s causing the reaction. We will use your ingredient list to see if we can replicate a lower dose formula that doesn’t cause a reaction.
On a whim I started the supplement a week ago and noticed an increase in energy but now I’m getting arthritic type pain in my hands (I’m 47 she’s 39) and I don’t have history of arthritis in the family. So unfortunately some non optimal side effects while initially receiving very positive results.
Thank you again fur your effort, the best I’ve seen on sero vital!
Hi Greg, you are very welcome. Sorry to hear about the reactions you and your wife have had. I wonder if you showed the ingredients to a dietitian or pharmacist, that they might be able to help you pin point if any single ingredient might be causing those effects?
My first suspect would be the herb, which is by its nature a mixture of many substances. I would be surprised to see an allergy to an amino acid listed, since we eat food containing them. although there could be excipients in the formulation causing the trouble. Some people are sensitive to free glutamate levels, though, such as in MSG (monosodium glutamate, a salt form of the amino acid glutamic acid which is also related to the amino acid glutamine). So anything is possible and elimination/reintroduction seems the way to go.
So it might be worth first trying single capsules of the other things listed, one at a time, to empirically track down the culprit for side effects. Wait until entirely clear of the reaction.
Start with the ones listed as having some demonstrated effect, since you might not need all of them for your purposes. Stay with a single one for at least a time comparable with the time it took for symptoms to first appear. Then add another one on the list (or you can continue testing one at a time). (I’m a chemist with food allergies…)
Of course, it’s also possible that the herb is responsible for some good effects. So if it turns out that one of the other ingredients produces unhappy reactions, you might try the herb again. Or if you’re adventurous, you could try the herb first.
The studies may not have been long enough or diverse enough to pick up delayed reactions after a certain exposure time. Clinical trials are often contradictory because representativeness is a major problem as well as the inherent problem of so many uncontrollable factors when dealing with free-feeding uncaged human subjects…
“My first suspect would be the herb”
Yes, especially since this herb, Schizonepeta, is known to affect the skin. In Chinese medicine it is used to treat skin diseases such as dermatitis.
I looked over you site trying to see what others thought about SeroVital I have been taking it for three months. During that time, after about two months and then again in three, I have have some some the worst hives and reddness on my face and neck that I have ever experienced. So I was interested to see hives mentioned in your review.
Hi Joe,
Can you please make a review of GenF20 plus? I tried that after I gave up Serovital (I didnt finish the box because of my stomach acidity and There are ingredients there with acid that I fell is dangerous with an empty stomach)
Hi Barbara, it is on my list to look at. Stay tuned 🙂
Thank you Joe for your review. Great job!!!
Thanks Michelle! 🙂
Thank you for your site. There is a prohormone named ghrelin which stimulates the release of growth hormone but also increases appetite. However, one can purchase analogues of it named GHRP2 & GDRP6 (from international pharmacies) that do not stimulate appetite. I’d be interested in hearing reports from those who have tried these, since unlike the heavily hyped amino acid concoctions, they seem to have been clinically proven to work. – MS
MS, thanks. Yes ghrelin is a hormone that is involved in appetite. I have not heard of GHRP2 or GDPR6 so I cant comment on them but I have added them to my list of things to take a look at in the future.
They are manufactured by Profound-Products (see link). I am trying this GDPR6 product (paid less than the price quoted), will let you know how it goes: http://profound-products.com/98-releasing-pro.html
Their GDPR2 product was twice the price.
Further research revealed that any “GH releaser” taken orally will not work because it will be digested, so t’would have to be sublingual or a nasal spray to be absorbed.
MS thanks for the link. if you ever find any clinical studies on it let me know.
Forgot to mention, Dr. Ronald Klatz discusses these growth hormone releasing peptides in his books….
Id still prefer to see research on that product.
Just a quick update…. In my post of May 19th I said, “I am trying this GDPR6 product, will let you know how it goes.”
I can’t say I noticed anything from taking it for 4 weeks (suggested dose before bedtime, 6 days on, 1 day off, each week). I’m thinking of trying it again or trying the more expensive GDPR2 product, which is supposedly about twice as potent but also about twice the price. Or I could just take twice as much of the GDPR product, the label said that is acceptable.
Or maybe I’ll just buy a guinea pig and see how he does with it – or better yet, a talking guinea pig. I wonder where I can find one? – MS
MS, thanks for the update. Sorry GDPR6 did not work for you. If you try the more expensive version, I’m interested in learning those results too. Based on your previous past results, you might try reaching out to the company and see if they will give you a free sample of the more expensive product. There is a part of me though that says forget about it. Either way, I’ll be glad to hear what happens.
Just search medline, search term GHRP, and you’ll see quite a few studies: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/?term=GHRP
Thanks MS
Wow! I just found you and will read ALL of your reviews! My parents were weaned off cholesterol and blood pressure meds using supplements, so I know there’s SOME good stuff out there. But there’s a mountain of bad information, ineffective, costly supplements and many gullible people are being ripped off. You are providing a tremendous service!
Thanks Donna, I’m happy you found me. That’s a pretty neat website you have yourself 🙂
I started taking this product about 3 weeks ago. I have been on my menstral cycle & getting clots for 3 weeks now after taking this product. Why is this happening? It is the only thing I am doing differently in my daily routine is taking the pills. So, is this something I should be concerned about?! Please help
Hi Kassandra, I’m not qualified to answer that question. I’d stop taking it and see if that clears things up. Have you asked your doctor/ gynocologist or a pharmacist about this? They might be able to shed light on this.
Anything that affects your hormones brings the possibility of cancer, and is likely not worth the risk. You should definitely check with your doc before taking any of these amino acids. I’ve seen lots of comments on other sites from post menopausal women complaining of their periods coming back and not stopping after taking serovital.
Any bleeding after menopause is a potential symptom of cancer and needs to be checked out. I took L-Lysine when I was in my 30s, and it caused me to have chest pain. A cardiologist told me the pain was likely coming from my stomach. I stopped the L-Lysine and it resolved the pains.
The commenter has not stated that she is going thru menopause but that she has had her cycle for 3 weeks, I hardly believe that Serovital was the cause of it. Most definitely, check with your OB/GYN to figure out the cause, why jump and scare the crap of someone with the word cancer. jeezz!
I took the real stuff by injections. Prescribed and monitored by a doctor. With blood tests. So I don’t believe you can sell a true product on tv without a prescription.
I don’t think the company that made it does it anymore.
It’s just like the mushroom that grows out of caterpillars head only created in the high altitudes of Tibet. It can cure cancer.
Well gnc and everyone else jumped on the market trying to sell fake crap. Cordeceps is real stuff
Georgie, there is no cordyceps in Serovital. Why were you getting injections of cordyceps? To boost growth hormone? Cordyceps is often used for weight loss and improving aerobic exercise ability.
Hi Joe, I’ve been reading your reviews for a few years now. You are really the only unbiased reviewer I consult about supplements, one reason being you don’t sell supplements yourself and you report only on FACTS. But what happened to the “Comment” section?? Before, you could read all the comments, now you have to go back and forth to “newer” and “older” comments and I never know where I’ll end up!! I know for some reviews you had hundreds and hundreds of comments, so I had to scroll down a bunch of pages before I could find out where I left off.
That was time-consuming and frustrating. This new format is also time-consuming and frustrating, because there are only a few comments and replies before I have to pick “newer” or “older” comments and start all over again! Could your web master make it so more comments and replies are shown before we have to go back and forth?
This is the one and only complaint I’ve ever had about you.
To the new commentators on this site, Joe Cannon also has great books on Personal Training and Nutrition on Amazon. Please look up his name in Amazon Books-he is as detailed in his books as he is on his Supplement Geek site!
Hi Roseann, thanks for bringing this to my attention! I had this issue with comments previously, and thought it was rectified. I’m going to look into this today and see what can be done about it.
Thanks for the kind words also. per your previous reply, I could stand to lose a few lbs too 😉
Hi, Joe. I, too, am confused about how to best submit a comment to you which is not actually in response to a previously post. Guessing you’ll find this one way or another!
I first discovered your site about one month ago while researching a different energy-weight loss ‘miracle’ drug. As I suspected, the findings you reported were spot on with my (non) results after using that supplement.
I am not one who would normally ever try supplements, per se, for diet, energy, or to reverse the aging process. Sadly, even my nutritional knowledge & using what I know to be beneficial supplements, have been badly ignored in the past 10 years. Truth is I was stupidly using drugs, uppers, in an effort to push myself to get more done, be less sluggish, stay competitive, etc. I am proud to say that I “kicked” that habit over 4 months ago & haven’t looked back.
HOWEVER, even now that I am caring for my mind & body as I should be, I find myself almost devoid of the energy needed to keep me going all day. I tire very easily, sleep way too much, and am just generally sluggish. Getting medical care looking into causes.
A friend turned me on to Sero-Vital HGH in ‘concentrated’ liquid form, as well as the capsules. I can report that I was my skeptical self, but am amazed at the profound effect it has had on my overall well being in just 9 days.
You, sir, are no Geek; I now will begin receiving your emails which I am certain will enlighten me further. I will begin to look online for less expensive sources of the listed Sero-Vital ingredients.
Thank you for sharing your research!
Hi Michele, really glad SeroVital has helped you. As for posting a comment, the best way is to go to the bottom of the page where you’ll see “Leave a Reply.” that doesn’t reply to anyone in particular. rather it just gets posted as its own, stand-alone comment.
I’m glad you found my site helpful. I’m sure anyone who saw me leaving the movie theater last night at 1am for the premier of the new Captain America movie (Civil War) would surely call me a geek LOL 🙂
I bought the product today at GNC before reading this. I’ll let you know what I think in 30 days. I am not taking the recommended 4 a day. I started with only 2 and plan to continue with 2 per day
Hi Danielle, sounds good. I’ll look forward to reading your results.
I used it daily for months and can’t tell you it did anything for me. When I requested to be removed from auto. deliveries , it kept coming and I kept getting billed on my credit card and had to call again. This only made me feel I was taken as I noticed no change in my looks or health either.
I really enjoyed your review. It’s the most honest I’ve found and the only one that isn’t selling the product or sthing else. !Thanks
Thanks Mayela, I truly appreciate that!
I really hate when I read a whole page only to find the writer hasn’t even tried the freaking product
Hi Bruce, Sorry you didn’t like my review. I can tell you that the web is full of people who try supplements and give their opinion. What if I said I tried the product and it didn’t work? What if I tried and it and said it did work? I honestly dont think that would help you because you’d have no way of knowing either way because you don’t know me. So, instead of wasting your time with some faceless testimonial, I prefer to show you information that you can double check for yourself. I feel that is a better way of helping you decide if something is right for you.
I thought your review was quite thorough in respect to what the product was and what they were promoting. Most extensive breakdown I’ve ever seen and I appreciate that.
Hi LaVaun, thanks for that. I’m glad to be of service.
To Bruce Busch: Joe Cannon is a Personal Trainer, so I kind of doubt he needs to lose weight. Besides, one person’s testimony of a supplement of ANY KIND is called “anecdotal” in science. Meaning there is no scientific evidence, but only this one person’s experience. Joe looks on major scientific sites to see what valid research studies have been done to prove or disprove the claims made by supplement companies.
Joe would be taking so many supplements per day, costing him A LOT of money, if he was to take everything he studies. THEN he wouldn’t know WHAT EXACTLY HELPED. He uses the scientific approach.
Even the studies he reviewed for serovital had so few people in the study, the studies are almost worthless. And in the one study, as Joe pointed out, HGH was not checked beforehand, so whether HGH was raised couldn’t be proven.
Anecdotal reports only means it helped Person X,but it may do nothing for Person Y. We don’t know whether person X was eating proper foods, exercising to lose fat or anything else about him/her, which may not compare to Person Y.
Directions say to take 2 hours before breakfast or 2 hours before bedtime. My question is I just started this product and I take all 4 capsules before breakfast, is this alright to do? or do I have to split the dosages 2 in the morning and 2 at night?
Hi Sally, in theory, if the product works, it might be better to have a more steady stream of nutrients all day long. My guess is that is why they recommended splitting it up before breakfast and bedtime. That said, I am not aware of any studies that compared spreading the dosages out vs what you are doing and taking them all at the same time.
If you really want to see whats going on, get your HGH levels tested while you take the pills at the same time vs spreading them out. Also get your HGH levels tested before you try the product too so you can compare it to how the supplement is working.
Thanks for your review. I believe most so-called “HGH releasers” are bunk. There is research located in PubMed on actual amino acid peptides that do cause release of HGH. I wonder why more companies don’t sell those. As far as I know, you can buy them online and test them out and see if they work according to reliable studies.
Sero-Vital seems nothing more than the old Arg-Orn. mix that is nearly worthless. “Life Extension” was a good read back then, but later, it was discovered that if you checked out their references, nearly 90 percent were bogus. I checked some and found some bogus, some not. I had tried the old Arg-Orn. years ago and got nothing off it regardless of the doses.
I would hope you might cover some of the proven HGH releasers, peptides, and review those. They can be taken right now. It will be years and years and years before they are approved and I’ll be too old to be alive then.
William, thanks. I have a copy of the original “Life Extension” book from back in the 80s (by Dirk Pearson and Sandy Shaw). I believe they covered Arg/orn in that book too. Most HGH supplements I see contain those amino acids.
To William Davidson, what are some of those amino acid peptides that help a person lose weight??? I’d love to research them. I lost 35 lbs by completely changing my nutritional lifestyle in 2013. Then all of a sudden, on July 25th, 2015, I started gaining weight until now, almost all my weight has been gained back!! All the while, I haven’t eaten gluten, dairy, soy, sugars, eggs or processed foods!!! I’m desperate. At this stage, if I keep on gaining, I’ll be 200 lbs soon!

Have you asked your doctor about this? You should at least have some standard blood tests. If you’re absolutely sure you haven’t been eating more or exercising less, something changed in your body. Thyroid problems, for instance, can make it very hard to lose weight and very easy to put it on. Some medications can alter some parts of the metabolism, so consider any new medications (or supplements). Are you now premenopausal or menopausal? Hormone level shifts likewise can change your weight management pattern.
Meanwhile, get obsessive about measuring and tracking everything you eat or drink to see what you are actually ingesting. There are free food trackers on the net, such as at sparkpeople or LoseIt. First you need to know what you are eating now. The record will be helpful. Also keep track of when you take supplements or medication, since one of them may be involved. I use a LoseIt tracker and define Timer as a food, using number of servings as a 24 hour clock. Medications or supplements are created as customized foods with zero calories.
You also may have developed some new allergies or intolerances, especially to things you are eating frequently. So if no other reason shows up from lab tests, check that out with elimination/reintroduction. It is not uncommon to be overweight with allergies (including a lot of retained water) and then lose the weight easily once the allergenic foods are eliminated.
Underweight allergics commonly gain weight, so it seems to be a weight management thing that’s involved. Or maybe just normalization of the appetite. If you search for food allergies plus rotation diet, you can find information on testing yourself and eating in ways that minimize overexposure and thus development of new allergies (or at least that’s the theory).
Hi Joe.
Wonderful information, thank you. I am curious as to whether or not you have done a similar study on GenF20 Plus or HyperGH 14X.
Cheers,
Judy
Hi Judy, not so far but I have heard of them. Most products of this ilk Ive seen have many of the same ingredients like arginine.
Hi Joe, Do you know why users need to take dosages 24 hrs apart? What if it were 22 hrs since your last dose? Would you have to set your alarm to make sure you stayed with the exact time frame? Thanks!
Hi CZ, my hunch is to keep a steady stream of the ingredients in the body. I dont believe missing this target by a few hours would make a difference.
Hello, Joe. I just subscribed to your newsletter after finding your article on SeroVital. I happened to see the commercial a few times and recognized Dr. Lisa Masterson advocating it. I decided to see if I could find an ingredients list, and, here I am!
I am a retired RN and I’m always curious when new products are introduced with claims such as these. I love reading the clinical studies. Honestly, many times I’m in shock…but that’s another story.
I just want to thank you for all the research you did on this product. I’ll be checking out your website and look forward to your newsletters. Best Wishes.
Hi Linda and thanks for your nice words. It was actually someone here who first told me about Dr. Masterson and SeroVital. I wasn’t aware of that TV commercial until after I wrote my review. You have a great day and I hope you enjoy my newsletters 🙂
So Linda, what is your opinion of this products claims?
Hi, Judi. I just saw your question today. I’m my opinion, I don’t believe this formulation is the “fountain of youth”, though it may support the body in some way.
I’m glad Joe mentioned the differences in the boxes and how HGH was taken off the advertising on the box he received. The FDA sometimes reviews new non-prescription products and has them change claims they consider misleading. In a nutshell…I wouldn’t spend my money on this product. Thanks for your question.
