Update 2/16/20. Can SeroVital raise human growth hormone (HGH) by 682%, reduce wrinkles, decrease body fat or increaase your bone density? Can it make you look –and feel- DECADES younger? You've seen the SeroVital commercials on TV and you may have wondered if it really worked. In this review, I'll help you better understand SeroVital by breaking it down into questions and answers. I'll show you the research and the pros and cons and help you figure out if SeroVital is right for you.
1. What Is Growth Hormone?
Human growth hormone (HGH) is a hormone made in the brain. It's also called somatotropin (so-mat-to-tro-pin). By whatever name you call it by, HGH does a LOT of things such as:
- Helping muscles grow
- Helping fat loss
- Helping collagen formation
- Helping the immune system
- Helping brain functioning
We tend to make less HGH as we get older and this is why people are interested in this hormone as a way to turn back the clock of aging and help us grow younger again. Some people might even take HGH injections too. SeroVital is not the same thing as HGH injections you may get from your doctor.
2. What Is A Secretagogue?
This very complicated word is pronounced “se-kreet-a-gog.” It's a science term and refers to anything that makes your body secrete something. SeroVital contains secretagogues (amino acids and herbs) which, are supposed to help your body secrete (produce) more growth hormone.
3. Don't Confuse HGH With HCG
HGH – human growth hormone – is not the same thing as HCG. HCG refers to a pregnancy hormone called human Chorionic Gonadotropin. People sometimes use HCG to help with weight loss.
See the HCG review for more on this.
4. Who Makes SeroVital?
The company is called SanMedica International. They hold the patent on SeroVital too. It's US Patent Number 8,551,542 Here is the US patent if you want to read it.
5. Contact SeroVital
The company address is 5742 W Harold Gatty Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84116-3777. Two other companies are also at this address:

7. The SeroVital Box Controversy
Depending on where you purchased this supplement, you may or may not see “HGH” on the box. Most boxes of SeroVital contain the letters HGH – which stands for human growth hormone. But some -like the box I have – do not. Why?
While it's hard to know for sure, in the comments below someone had mentioned that SeroVital purchased from Costco does not contain the HGH reference. So whether or not you see HGH may be related to where you purchased it from.
Does SeroVital really raise HGH 682%? Well, the box does say “Clinically Tested 682% Mean Increase” – but if you look closely, it doesn't say a 682% increase in HGH.
8. SeroVital Research
There is clinical research on this dietary supplement. The SeroVital study title is Elevated Growth Hormone 120 Minutes a Single Low Dose of Amino Acids in Healthy Subjects.” This investigation was presented at an Obesity Society meeting in 2012.
This investigation involved 16 people (12 men and 4women) in their 30s. The study lasted 2 weeks. During one week, people took SeroVital, and the next week, they received a placebo. Researchers tested growth hormone levels were measured at 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after taking the supplement or placebo.
Results: These researchers found HGH levels were higher 120 minutes after taking SeroVital compared to placebo. Levels of IGF-1 were also noted to be higher 8 hours later. IGF-1 is the molecule that is actually responsible for many of HGH effects.
Another Study
Another study was presented at the 2019 Endocrine Society Conference (ENDO 2019). This investigation contained 45 people (mostly women) with low HGH levels. The presented study noted SeroVital raised IGF-1 levels and HGH levels. The study sounds fascinating but it may not yet be published. When the study is published, this secion will be updated.
9. SeroVital Study Problems
The SeroVital research study does show it raises HGH levels. Here are my thoughts on the study:
1. The study doesn't seem to be peer-reviewed. It was presented at the Obesity Society as an abstract (an abstract is a summary of research). The study is listed with ClinicalTrials.com and was completed in 2012.
2. The study involved 16 people, mostly men.
3. The study showed HGH levels were higher 120 minutes after taking SeroVital.
4. This investigation did not measure:
- body fat
- testosterone levels
- muscle strength
- wrinkles
Grated some of this will take longer to see a difference.
5. This study involved people in their 30s. Since this is an anti-aging supplement, it would have been nice to involve older people.
10. What Are Normal HGH Levels?
According to Medline Plus, normal HGH levels for men and women are:
- Men: 1 – 9 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml)
- Women 1 – 16 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml)
11. SeroVital Benefits
The company says HGH is associated with:
- Reduced body fat
- Improved mood & energy
- Heightened sex drive
- Stronger bones
- Increased lean muscle mass
- Reduced appearance of wrinkles
Remember, the benefits of HGH do not necessarily mean SeroVital has the same benefits.
12. SeroVital Ingredients
SeroVital contains 5 amino acids and 1 herb. According to the box I have, 4 capsules of SeroVital have the following ingredients:
Amount Per Serving | Percent Daily Value | |
---|---|---|
Proprietary Blend Containing | 2.9 grams | |
L Lysine HCL | N /A | |
L Arginine HCL | N /A | |
Oxo-Proline | N /A | |
N-Acetyle L Cysteine | N /A | |
L Glutamine | N /A | |
Schizonepeta (arial parts) Powder | N /A |
Other ingredients that are also listed in SeroVital are:
- Gelatin
- Steric Acid
- Magnesium Stearate
- Titanium Dioxide
- Rice Flour
- Microcrystalline Cellulose
- Candurin Silver Fine
- Yellow # 5
- Silicon Dioxide
- Yellow #6
These other ingredients play no role in the benefits of the supplement.
If we look at the 6 main ingredients (4 amino acids and 1 herb) we see 4 capsules of SeroVital has a total of 2.9 grams for all of the ingredients.
Let's look at the HGH research for the ingredients in SeroVital.
Lysine
Lysine makes up most of the ingredients in the supplement. Lysine is an essential amino acid (essential means we don't make it ).
In a 1981 study, lysine alone did not raise HGH levels – in young men – when it was combined with the amino acid, arginine. The amount used in this investigation was 1200 mg of lysine and 1200 mg of arginine.
In a 1993 study, the combination of lysine and arginine did not raise HGH levels in older men compared to placebo. This study used 3 grams of lysine and 3 grams of arginine used 2x per day for 2 weeks.
Researchers in Finland noted 2 grams of lysine did not raise HGH levels in weight lifters who were 19-35 years of age.
Arginine
Arginine is a non-essential amino acid (we can make it). It's the second most abundant ingredient in Serovital.
In one study, researchers noted the combination of 1500 mg of arginine and 1500 mg of lysine, raised HGH levels. Ironically, the amino acids did not raise HGH levels when people exercised. That's odd.
Another study reported that both 5g and 9g of arginine raised growth hormone levels in young men more than a placebo. In another investigation, 6 grams of arginine did not raise HGH levels (or other hormones) in 15 runners compared to a placebo.
In a 2007 study, arginine used for 7 days didn’t raise HGH or IGF-1 in adults. These people took 7 grams of arginine per day.
In this paper, the researcher states while both arginine and exercise increased HGH levels. But, when combined together, the rise is less than seen with exercise alone.
In another paper, it was noted arginine, given before strength training reduced HGH levels. These researchers gave people 0.075 mg of arginine per kilogram of body weight
Translation: there are 2.2 pounds in a kilogram. So, if you were 180 lbs (82 kg), you’d get 0.075 x 82 =6.15 grams of arginine.
Oxo-Proline
Oxyproline, also known as pyroglutamic acid is a type of amino acid. Evidence for oxo-proline raising HGH in people cannot be located.
N-Acetyl-Cysteine
Another name for this stuff “NAC”. N-Acetyl-Cysteine is a version of the amino acid cysteine. In supplements, NAC is often used to increase glutathione, a powerful antioxidant.
Here's NAC on Amazon
Glutamine
Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid. In a study from 1995, researchers noted 2 grams of glutamine, raised HGH levels in 8 of 9 healthy men (32-64 years of age). SeroVital contains only 1 mg of glutamine in 4 capsules.
See the review on glutamine for more insights.
Schizonepeta
Schizonepeta is an herb. Other names for this include Jing Jie and Japanese Catnip. Does schizonepeta raise HGH levels? Evidence cannot be located. Preliminary evidence suggests this herb may have anti-inflammatory properties. There is speculation cellular inflammation may reduce HGH levels.
13. Ingredients With Evidence
Based on the research which could be located, ingredients with the most HGH research are:
To be fair, it is possible the unique blend in the product may work better than any single ingredient.
14. SeroVital And Fertility
Growth hormone (HGH) is involved in both female and male fertility. So it makes sense some might wonder if SeroVital can help a woman get pregnant. Research linking Serovital to pregnancy cannot be located.
15. SeroVital And Birth Control Pills
There is no evidence SeroVital interferes with birth control pills. Women who are concerned about this are encouraged to speak to their pharmacist for more insights.
16. SeroVital And HIV
People with HIV/AIDS may be interested in natural ways to boost growth hormone levels. Can SeroVital help? No evidence can be located. For now, the best advice is to show the ingredients to a doctor/pharmacist and see what they say.
17. How To Take SeroVital
The company recommends taking take 4 capsules of SeroVital on an empty stomach, either 2 hours before meals or about 2 hours before going to bed. Taking the capsules on an empty stomach, however, appears necessary.
Do not take more than SeroVital 4 capsules per day.
These same directions also hold true for the liquid concentrate version too. SeroVital Liquid has the exact same ingredients as the capsules.
18. What's Growth Factor 9?
Growth factor 9 (GF9) is another supplement touted to raise HGH. Growth Factor 9 has the same ingredients as Serovital. The Growth Factor 9 package mentions SeroVital.
19. What's Thrive HGH
Thrive HGH is a supplement by the company called Limitless World Wide LLC. Thrive HGH contains the same ingredients as SeroVital.
20. SeroVital vs. Growth Factor 9 vs. Thrive HGH
Here are the ingredients in all 3 supplements side-by-side
SeroVital | Growth Factor 9 | Thrive HGH |
Blend 2.9g made of | Blend 2.9 g made of | Blend 2.9g made of |
L Lysine | L Lysine | L Lysine |

- 3 different supplements
- 3 different names

21. SeroVital vs. GenF20?
GenF20 is another supplement reported to improve HGH levels. No studies could be located which compare these supplements to each other. GenF20 other ingredients like Tribulus Terrestris. For more information see the GenF20 review.
22. Where Can You Buy SeroVital
This supplement is very popular and can be purchased at many locations such as Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Target, Walmart, Khols, Bed Bath and Beyond, CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Costco, Ulta Beauty, and many online retailers.
23. SeroVital Cost
When purchasing from SeroVital.com a bottle costs $99 for a one-month supply. If you go on their Preferred Customer Program (auto-ship program), the price is $79.20. Both prices include free shipping.
24. The Preferred Customer Program
The SeroVital preferred Customer Program is their auto-ship program. If you choose this option, the company will send you a new shipment of the supplement every 28 days. Your credit card will be charged $79.20 per month.
25. How To Return SeroVital
SeroVital is sold at many local stores so returning it to where you purchased it is the fastest way to get a refund. If you bought it from the its website, the company lists this address for returns:
Attention Returns Department: 5742 Harold Gatty Drive Salt Lake City, UT 84116. They also list this phone number: 1-800-898-5153 where people can get more specific information. I recommend you call the company before sending it back so you know exactly how to do it.
26. Is SeroVital FDA Regulated?
All dietary supplements are regulated. Many don't know this but it is true. While the FDA does not test supplements, there is a regulation. The supplement law is called The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). It's been in effect since 1994.
27. Is It Made In America?
Yes, the company which makes it is located in Utah.
28. Can SeroVital Change The Microbiome?
Does SeroVital impact gut health? While clinical studies cannot be located, preliminary research shows arginine can alter the bacteria in the mouth. So, while it's possible SeroVital may positively impact the microbiome, the best way to ensure a healthy gut is to eat lots of fruits, veggies, beans, and seeds.
29. SeroVital Hair And Skin?
Some people have reported, SeroVital HGH has lead to better-looking skin (see comments). This is interesting but no clinical studies so far have looked at this.
30. Is SeroVital Gluten-Free?
I'm not sure. The website did not say either way when this review was updated. Rice flower is part of the “other ingredients” but according to the Celiac Disease Foundation, rice is naturally gluten-free.
The best way to know for sure is to call the company. You can reach them at 801-517-7007.
31. What Happens If you Stop Taking It?
In theory, if you were seeing benefits from and stop taking SeroVital, you'd likely go back to where you were to begin with. How long this might take to happen I can't say. If you combined it with exercise and eating a better diet, how far you might slide downhill would likely be less. There are no clinical studies showing what happens to people after they take SeroVital for several months and then stop taking it.
32. Do You Have To Take It Forever?
If you are happy with SeroVital HGH and stopped taking it, in theory, you might go back to where you started. How long this might take to occur is not known.
33. Can Teenagers Take SeroVital?
Teenagers are teeming with growth hormone so there is no reason for them to take this supplement. The supplement website says not to take it if you are younger than 18.
34. Is SeroVital Better With An NAD Booster?
This supplement is touted to be an anti-aging. Some of the most popular anti-aging supplements today are things like Tru Niagen, Niacel and Elysium Basis. These supplements are said to slow aging by raising a compound called NAD levels our cells. Whether or not SeroVitalHGH would work better with a NAD supplement is unknown. No study has looked at this (yet). For more information see these reviews:
35. SeroVital And Weight Loss
While growth hormone may be associated with reduced body fat, there is no evidence SeroVital burns fat or helps people lose weight. If you are taking it for weight loss, any effects would be magnified If you combined the supplement with exercise and eating fewer calories.
36. Does SeroVital Contain HGH?
No. There is no human growth hormone in this supplement. The ingredients in the supplement are supposed to help your body to make more of its own HGH naturally.
37. Does It Have The Side Effects Of HGH?
While HGH is a necessary hormone, too much HGH associated with some bad things such as:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Joint pain
- Diabetes
- Fluid build up causing swelling
SeroVital will not produce the same side effects as too much HGH.
38. Can It Help Me Grow Taller?
Growth hormone therapy is sometimes prescribed by doctors to help kids grow taller. That said, there is no proof this supplement would help a child or adult grow taller. When in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
39. Is Powdered SeroVital Better?
The Rapid Dissolve Crystalline Powder version of SeroVital contains the same ingredients and amounts as the capsules. The big advantage of the powdered version is if you did not like swallowing pills.
40. Is Maximum Strength Better?
When I looked into this, I noticed some websites selling “Maximum Strength” SeroVital but the ingredients – and amounts of ingredients – are identical to “regular strength.”. I did not see Maximum Strength listed on the supplement's official website. Could the max strength product be counterfeit? When in doubt, call the company and ask them.
41. Can Men Use SeroVital?
Yes, you can. Remember, even though the product is advertised to women, the SeroVital study mostly consisted of men.
42. SeroVital Side Effects
I think SeroVital is safe in healthy people. While there isn’t a bunch of any single ingredient, here are a few things to keep in mind and ask your doctor about if you think they apply to you. This list is not complete:
- Start with less than recommended for the first week to see if you have any side effects
- N-Acetyl-Cysteine and arginine may reduce blood pressure. Consider if you take high blood pressure medicine
Stop taking SeroVital at least 2 weeks before surgery
- Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding also
- If you have a history of cancer, speak to your doctor. Remember, HGH causes things to grow.
- Schizonepeta contains a compound called pulegone which might damage the liver in high amounts. Schizonepeta is the last ingredient listed, so there is not much in the supplement. If you have liver problems, speak to your doctor first.
- If you take any medications like blood thinners, speak to your doctor and pharmacist
On the plus side, some people -in the comments below – have said their skin looked better after taking SeroVital
Some online reports -which cant be confirmed -suggest the supplement might cause:
Constipation | Acne | Swollen hands/feet |
Dizziness | Lethargy | Headaches |
The odds of any of these happening is unknown. These may be isolated incidents not likely to occur in most people. Like many things in the supplement world, results – and side effects- may vary.
43. SeroVital Pro & Con
Here is a quick overview of what I liked and didn't like about this supplement. These are my opinions. Take them for what they are
Pro | Con |
Wildly available in stores | Very expensive |
Been around several years | Lots of hype |
It has a US patent | Low-quality study |
Growth Factor 9 and Thrive HGH are the same thing as SeroVital | |
No clinical proof it does what HGH does |
44. Does SeroVital Work?
To be honest, I have my doubts but since I did not try SerVital myself, I can't say for sure if it works or not. To be fair, some people, provided testimonials below, saying this supplement helped them. For those who take this supplement, it's important to remember it's best if you also eat well and exercise. Kudos to the SeroVital company for also saying this too.
Here it is on Amazon
Joyce says
Hi. I really appreciate your site. I’ve been taking SeroVital (from Costco) for just over 1 1/2 years. I’m fairly small, so I decided to only take 3 pills a day. I also didn’t tell anyone but my husband. After a couple of weeks, my sister-in-law asked if I was doing something different because my skin looked radiant. That was surprising, and certainly made me feel better about my decision to try it.
Then about 6 months into taking it one of my best friends wrote me a message on Facebook. She said what are you doing differently? I’ve been comparing your recent pictures to those from more than 5 years ago, and you look younger now than back then. I could not believe it was that noticeable! I’ve been pretty faithful to it ever since.
However, I have had some side affects. Initially I had joint pain, and almost stopped. Thankfully that got better. But now I seem to get very thick, sticky mucous shortly after taking it. I take it at night, and through process of elimination, I am sure it’s the pills. I have a call into them to see if they made some sort of change, but thought it was worth sharing.
Joe says
Hi Joyce, I’m really glad you have been seeing positive changes with SeroVital. That is interesting what you said about your side effects. I dont think anyone has mentioned that before (anybody else have those side effects?) Let me know what the company says.
Joyce says
Hi. I finally got through to SeroVital, but my experience was not very positive. The guy immediately asked why I wasn’t purchasing the product directly from them. I explained that it was much more cost effective through Costco. He pressured me multiple times to sign up for auto delivery through him. He seemed less interested my symptoms, and instead used it as a way to try convincing me into switching to liquid form so that I would purchase them from him instead.
It was probably the single most aggressive sales pitch I’ve ever experienced. It made me far less confident in the product. I’m still taking it, but my acid reflux is worsening so I may look for a different product.
Is there anything you have seen out there you would recommend?
Joe says
Hi Joyce, sorry your experience with SeroVital customer service was not good. I didn’t know about the pressure sales pitch. Sad. Do you know whats causing your acid refulx? Maybe you eat too late at night (that happens to me when I eat late)? Do you take SeroVital on an empty stomach or with food?
Have you considered taking the ingredients in SeroVital separately? I have not priced it out lately but it might save you some money depending on what you purchased.
Patti says
Hi Everyone I was wondering if Serovital will interfere with MS.
Becca says
Tbh I only scanned the other comments made, so I’m not sure if someone else has mentioned this. Serovital and Serovital-HGH are two different products. I don’t know the difference between them, but that is why your box did not say “HGH.”
Joe says
Hi Becca, I’ve never heard that SeroVital and SeroVital HGH are different products. Have you seen both boxes side by side? Are they different?
Amanda says
The box that does not say serovital HGH on it, still contains packages of capsules in it where the individual packets say “serovital HGH.”
Melanie says
I have been taking Serovital for three months now because I saw my husband’s success in combination with his workout regimen. (He lost love handles that he had for YEARS after using this product, which piqued my curiosity). In any event, I am 45 and he is 49, and my concerns were anxiety, quality sleep, wrinkles, and flabbiness/general weight loss. I have not changed anything about my workout routine, which consists of 30-35 minutes of cardio (medium effort — not crazy running or anything!) five times per week.
I notice my demeanor is much more calm and I haven’t had any anxiety since taking Serovital — that, to me, is huge. I definitely notice my midsection and upper thighs getting a little leaner not only visually but by how much better I fit into my clothes. My wrinkles appear to be less noticeable but that could be from any number of factors such as creams or Botox, so I won’t really address that topic as it relates to Serovital.)
Finally, my sleep has been great/high quality, which likely contributes to all of these other great benefits I am seeing. Just thought I would post my two cents if it helps anyone. I realize it could be psychosomatic, but I, for one, will continue to take this product!
Joe says
Hi Melanie, thanks for sharing your experiences. I am very glad you are happy with SeroVital.
Kay says
Thank you for all the information you have provided. I have been taking SeroVital for 1 month now. I feel better, more energy, sleeping better. It does seem like my skin is getting tighter. So as now I will continue to use.
Joe says
Hi Kay,thanks for sharing. I cant say why you are seeing those results, but I’ll be happy that you are. Keep us updated on how things are going as you continue to take it.
Cindy A says
Hi,
I just started taking Sero-Vital and the one thing I’ve noticed is that I am sleeping better and less stressed. I’m a little concerned now because I am pre-diabetic and I don’t want to cross that line.
Joe says
Hi Cindy, my 2 cents is I dont think SeroVital will increase your risk of diabetes. To be sure, just keep checking your blood sugar. Is it going up since you’ve been taking SeroVital? To double check show the box to your doctor/pharmacist and ask them what they think. Also, get your hemoglobin A1C checked again. that will be another indicator of your diabetes progression.
As a pre-daibetic, check out this review on diabetes I wrote that may help you.
Brynn says
Well, I gave it a four month chance, and never lost any weight, in fact it increased my appetite! Never saw a difference in wrinkle reduction, and did not feel like I had more energy.
In short, no positive effect, but a negative effect a my budget, for sure!!
Joe says
Brynn, thanks for sharing those results.
Amanda says
I’ve been taking this for a month , I’m worried about weight gain or getting more mass, I’m 54 , menopausal an already struggling with weight. Tho I feel great when I take this.
Joe says
Hi Amanda, Since you have been taking SeroVital, have you gained weight? For what it’s worth I dont think SeroVital would cause weight gain but since I have not tried it personally I’m just taking a guess.
Donna says
Sounds like a scam thank you, not purchasing this, or any other product. It’s called life, aging, be secure within yourself, accept your inter beauty! My God, seriously
David B. Karpf, MD says
As an endocrinologist, I am extremely doubtful that this product raises GH enough to support any of it’s claims.
As for GH and cancer risk, it’s complicated. Much, but not all of GH effects are mediated by IGF-1, which is primarily released from the liver by GH binding to it’s hepatic receptor. Both GH & IGF-1 contribute to long bone growth in kids, and to muscle and cardiac hypertrophy. In fat, GH and IGF-1 have opposing effects; IGF-1 is lipogenic (increases fat), whereas GH is lipolytic (burns fat).
Also, unopposed IGF-1 tends to decrease blood glucose, whereas GH acts to raise blood glucose (it’s very important in young kids; congenitally GH deficient babies often present with seizures due to hypoglycemia (due to absent GH action).
Large population studies support a higher cancer rate in people with higher IGF-1 levels, but not in people with higher GH levels. So any cancer risk with SeroVital would depend on whether it actually increases GH and/or IGF-1 levels in an individual patient/customer, and which is increased more. For example, men with the exon 3 deletion from the GH receptor (So exon 2 is linked directly to exon 4) show moderately higher GH levels, somewhat lower IGF-1 levels, and longer life (centarians), taller stature (by 1-2″), and less cancer.
If you want to determine if this supplement really works, I would measure a fasting glucose, GH level, and iGF-1 level at 8AM, along with a repeat GH and IGF-1 at 10AM, then take the “recommended” dose of SeroVital for 3-4 weeks, followed by repeat testing.
In addition to the cost of a month of SeroVital, these tests could add an additional $600 or so, depending on one’s health insurance But that’s probably less than staying on a supplement with unproven efficacy and safety for 2 years.
Joe says
David, excellent points. Thanks so much for dropping by and sharing your expertise on HGH/IGF1. I confident everyone reading your words has benefited from them.
Donna says
So, what do I request of my primary practitioner, for test; prior to, and after 4 weeks time?
Janice says
I fell out of the habit of taking SeroVital after taking it nightly with good results (skin, mostly) for several years and decided lately to resume. Worth noting was the return of the benefits I had seen initially, but also an increase in my foot size. I’ve been wearing size 10 shoes since I was a teen, and noticed all of my shoes had started hurting me.
A recent measurement at a shoe store shows my left foot is now a 10.5, and my right is an 11. I’m 48 years old. I suspect the return to the supplement spiked an increase in GH levels and may account for my larger feet.
Michelle says
I have been taking Serovital for almost three months. I turn fifty this year and wanted to see if it would make me feel better about getting older. I have always been pretty healthy. I haven’t noticed a dramatic change in most off their claims….no weight loss or anything like that.
My biggest change when taking this product is a heightened sex drive. It was very noticeable. Although I haven’t told my husband I was taking this product, if I did, he would say keep taking it. Anyway, it has been really great for our relationship and for that reason alone, I will keep taking it. I have experimented and even two to three pills a days works just as well.
Debra Ewing says
Joe, I am doing some personal research. I was taking a product from Limitless Worldwide called Thrive-hGH (A certified 100% SeroVital-hgh Formula) It is an MLM company however I purchased the product for the benefits and not to create an MLM business. It has all the amino acids listed as “t” for trace I assume and the proprietary blend is 2.9g. Same 682%.
MY CONCERN IS I was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer: Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. There are only 112,000 of us nationwide. The tumor releases serotonin. The cancer is treatable but not curable. Tomorrow I am having y90 embolization on the 7 lesions in my liver with the 2 tumors being in my small intestine. They estimate that I have had this for 3 years.
Without pulling credit card history I know I had been taking Thrive for a minimum of 2 years. I was wondering if there was any correlation between my disease (or my personal genetic makeup that would be more pre-disposed to getting this disease*) and someone taking this product, SeroVital or Growth Factor 9. Do you have any information on how much serotonin is in the proprietary blend or if in fact it is serotonin? Thank you so much!
*this is researched based only. I have NO intention of taking any sort of legal action. Many of us with NET are trying to find correlations to how we could have gotten this.
Joe says
Hi Debra, first let me say I am so sorry to learn about your cancer. I can only imagine the stress you must be feeling over this. I am happy to hear that your type of cancer is treatable. While I have not heard of Thrive HGH, I did find its website and looked at its ingredients. It appears to have the same ingredients as SeroVital does. They look like the same thing with different names. I wonder if SeroVital might license their product to Limitless Worldwide?
In either event, I’m not aware of anything about its ingredients causing cancer. I wonder if it just might be an unfortunate coincidence. I’m not even sure if these type of products actually raise HGH in people. Did you ever get your HGH levels tested before starting Thrive HGH and afterward to see if it went up? Did you show the ingredients to your oncologist to get her/his opinion on the product? I think it might help your anxiety of you did show the products ingredients to your oncologist.
I wish I had some answers for you. Unfortunately I do not. What I can do though is say a prayer for you now that your treatment goes well and your anxiety over this subsides.

I also found another address in Navada which looked like a residential area.
Limitless is a good company name. Reminds me of that Limitless TV show .

SeroVital is a perfect example of…sell the sizzle, not the steak. But let me back up; I took the product for nine months, went off for two, back on for six, then off again for good. They’re selling a dream…and that’s what I was buying (and knew it, too.) Tighter skin, leaner muscles, more energy; what a terrific dream. But that’s what you’re buying. (Same as buying a lottery ticket…you’re buying a dream, albeit one that has at least a minuscule chance of coming true.)
A careful read of the SeroVital box, their literature, and their ads sells the dream: “Everybody is talking about it…” EVERYBODY? Who is EVERYBODY? The SeroVital ads show dozens of well-known, respected magazines, parading them out there as if the mags are featuring editorials on the product…but are they? Or are these the mags where SeroVital has paid full-page ads…and nothing more.
When you read the “amazing benefits” on the box, scrutinize how it’s worded; it’s not saying their product does that. They’re only stating the beneficial facts of a healthy pituitary gland. Further, the owner of this blog talks about the different packaging. SeroVital never dropped the HGH from the box…except for the boxes that sell at Costco. If purchased directly from SeroVital or from Ulta you’ll still see the HGH on the box…but not if you buy it at Costco. (Who knows why; maybe Costco wasn’t comfortable with SeroVital’s claim of higher HGH levels.)
Now that I’m not into the dream anymore…(fun while it lasted…just like the lottery ticket), I’ll purchase what I know for a fact really helps my skin…and it’s the lysine and arginine. I took it as a kid whenever I got a cold sore to get rid of the cold sore in half the time, and I take it as an adult whenever my skin starts to look ruddy. And you need to take it on an empty stomach, which is fine by me. (But unlike SeroVital, an “empty stomach” isn’t defined in ridiculous terms of ‘not even coffee or tea.’ Give me a break.)
But it’s hard to believe that lysine and arginine alone would work…because they’re cheap. And it’s human nature that the more expensive an item, the more we’re likely to “believe” in it.
Joe says
Hi Wendy, thanks for sharing your experiences and that was very interesting about what you said about HGH only being on packages not sold at Cosco. I was wondering because I still see HGH on the boxes at their website.
Much success with your book by the way 🙂

Thanks Joe!

I am a 42 year old male who saw an ad in the US for this product which I then purchased from a health store. Prior to beginning the product I consulted my GP and asked for a full blood test including growth factor, testosterone levels and general markers.
I am into my second week and have had to stop taking the capsules as I have been experiencing a burning sensation in my stomach and also severe diarrhea for two days. I am taking the capsules 10min. before sleep and am not sure if this is irritating my stomach and bowels (on an empty stomach).
Has any one else experienced this? This irritation is also affecting my sleep.
Also, has anyone else considered a pre and post blood test to see if levels have changed? (my GP wasn’t sure what blood analysis to conduct… the only one that sounded remotely relevant was “growth factor”. Does anyone know whether this measures HGH??
Joe says
Hi Peter, sorry to hear about those symptoms! Since they mention IGF1 on the box of the product (or at least they used to) Id get an IGF1 test. IGF1 is related to growth hormone (HGH). Here is an at home test kit for IFG1 too if you prefer.
Kay Cione says
I understand that it is to be taken on an empty stomach, but does that include no coffee, tea or water for two hours before or after? There does not seem to be any information about liquids being consumed. Thanks for any additional information.
Joe says
Hi Kay, The SeroVital Patent mentions people taking it 2 hours after dinner on an empty stomach. Because I don’t think the stomach would be totally empty 2 hours after eating (depends on what they ate), I’m not sure how much it matters to take it on an empty stomach. It sounds like if you just separate SeroVital from other things you eat by 2 hours you should be ok. I didn’t see anything mentioned about caffeine, coffee or tea or other liquids either so I would not worry about this either. hope that helps 🙂
Margaret Thompson says
Its on the instructions, only water can be consumed within those two hours which means no coffee, soda etc! This also means no consuming anything other than water two hours before taking the tablets and two hours after!
Joe says
Hi Margaret, thanks. I appreciate that.
L says
So there’s a gap of 4 hours you can’t eat???
Joe says
Hi L, I cant find any evidence that you have to wait 4 hours to eat after taking SeroVital.
Maria Anderson says
Hello Joe,
I am a 50 year old healthy woman in Alaska. I watch what I eat and exercises comes with the territory. I will try sero vital and report back to this sight. Thank you for your thorough reporting.
Joe says
Hi Maria, sounds good I will look forward to learning what happens. One day I will go to Alaska. its been on my places to go list for a long time 🙂

Thank you for all of this information–been craving it and couldn’t find the details that you presented.. I’ve been using Sero Vital for about two years off and on. When I am taking it–remarkable difference. I can only speak for my personal experience, but after two weeks of continued use, results are definite: muscle tone, skin tighter, sleeping better! Energy levels back to what they were a few years ago.
I can’t speak to the science behind this product, and truly questioned the results I was seeing many times! Was I just seeing what I wanted to see –therefore justifying the amount I spent on this product? But after another few months of not using Sero Vital, I recently started taking the supplement again. Just about to finish second week.
For me: once again, results are amazing. I’ve tried to share information about this product with my close friends who I know could benefit. They’re hesitant to try it because there’s not a lot of definitive info out there. Yours, although not conclusive, is just great research! Will definitely share! Thanks much Joe!
Joe says
Hi Lucinda, Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and I’m glad you are seeing benefits from SeroVital. I really appreciate you sharing my review with your friends also. Have a wonderful day 🙂
Jenny says
This was an amazingly complete review. Thank you for the time and effort it took to produce this. While doing my research, finding this was like finding a late birthday present in the mailbox.
Joe says
Hi Jenny, you are very welcome and thanks for much for saying that! 🙂
Gianni says
Hi Joe,
Based on your reviews and knowledge of all products to help with the items this product claims to provide, do you have any recommendation for a healthy alternative to these results?
Joe says
Hi Gianni, when it comes to naturally raising anabolic hormone levels, the only things I know will work is weight loss (if needed) and exercise (aerobic and/or resistance exercise).
Gianni says
Hi Joe,
Thank you for trying to place a non – biased review in this product. I see that there are various side effects under a Costco review link (see below) that customers are reporting. Have you found this to be true from other product review sites?
https://www.costco.com/SeroVital-Dietary-Supplement%2C-160-count-.product.100121701.html?catalogId=10701&langId=-1&storeId=10301&krypto=K%2BB3fx7xoLypic%2B2Q6RaCm5spbWLjFBfLCc5BjfM81GlZi3ySR8qvaVvMZH9yNK1AOumcNQ8kS3fKvtvIqODT%2FAqRUqm8pTbM45ZLRnQBvw%3D
Joe says
Hi Gianni, People here have reported various side effects also. I’m not sure what would be could be causing them or how common they might be.
G says
Hi there. Thanks for the review. Do you get paid by anyone to review this product?
Joe says
Hi G, you are very welcome. I’m happy to help. I am not paid by any supplement company or pharmaceutical company but there are ads and some links that do let me maintain the site. See my FAQ page for more on how that works. Any other questions, just ask.
Al says
I naturally eye rolled when I read you didn’t test it yourself
Joe says
AL, Thanks for the feedback and here’s why I didn’t try SeroVital. It’s not possible to test everything I review here. I review so many products that if I did try something, and it didn’t work, how would I know that result wasn’t because it combined with other supplements I was taking concurrently? I wouldn’t. So, I prefer to take myself out of the equation and stick to the science. I hope that clears things up.
Terje says
Al, Wow!
Did you bother reading the review? I found it to be the most well informed and scientifically backed up review of a product that I have ever seen.
I saw the ad for this product on TV and was curious about what ingredients it actually contained so I could look them up to see what they did. Well, Joe did all the work for me and posted it in his review for me saving me a shit ton of time!!!!
Why would he have to test it himself? We know the ingredients, there are studies that show what they do. It’s just a bunch of amino acids. You can get them all from your food. That means that everyone is trying this product all the time already.
A pill with a few amino acids in it is very likely to have very little effect unless it’s an essential amino acid and you’re deficient. This is not a product full of drugs.
By the way, Joe, the reason you have to take it on an empty stomach is because all the amino acids that you eat compete to get into your body, and you can only absorb a limited amount of amino acids in a given time.
Therefor as long as you aren’t eating any proteins or other amino acids, you can eat together with these pills and they’ll absorb fine. For example you can eat these pills together with fat, or carbs, as long as there is very little protein.
Joe says
Teje, thanks for saying that 🙂
Terri Warren says
Thank you for your site. I found it most informative. It is very helpful in making my decision to try Serovital.
Joe says
Hi Terri, you are very welcome. I’m so glad you found my site helpful 🙂
Kerry says
I have read that increased growth hormone can be a risk factor for cancer. Indeed, a high animal protein diet can increase levels of the growth hormone and subsequently increased risk for cancer. Wouldn’t this supplement have a similar effect?
Joe says
Hi Kerry, while I have not seen any evidence either way, I think it would also depend on if SeroVital really does increase HGH. I’d like to see a couple of published human studies on this.
Terje says
Kerry, Where have you read that animal protein is any different than plant proteins?
Protein is protein. Your digestive system breaks it down into amino acids and your body uses them to build new proteins.
Is doesn’t matter where they come from, they will have the same effect.
