Updated 8/2/21. Do Phentraburn slimming capsules really work? The name is obviously a reference to the weight loss drugs phentermine and Phen-Fen. Phentraburn is another in a long list of weight loss supplements from China. Does Phentraburn work? More importantly, does it burn fat? You'd think it would burn fat since “burn” is in the name! Let's take a close look at this weight loss supplement and see what we can figure out. Also, see the review of Phen375 for more information.
Phentraburn Ingredients
According to the website for the product (Phentraburn.com) the supplement is composed of the following ingredients:
- Xian Xian Ca
- Jobstears
- Artemisia Drancunculus
- Psyllium Husk
- Bamboo Shoot
- Lotus Leaf
- Medicinal Starch
- Mulberry Leaf Extract
These ingredients look very familiar. Several of them – Jobstears, Lotus Leaf, Mulberry Leaf extract – are ingredients found in Beautiful Slim Body and Zi Xiu Tang, which I have already reviewed. All of these ingredients work like laxatives.
Phentraburn also lists “medicinal starch” as an ingredient. Guess what that is? Well, In the weight loss supplement called Beautiful Slim Body, they called it Medicinal Amylum. Starch and Amylum are both starch – so these are the very same thing – just called different names. Didn’t they think we would notice this?
Other ingredients in Phentraburn
Xian Xian Cao. I'm not sure what the heck this stuff is. In my research, I did turn up an herb called Xi Xian Cao. I'm reasonably sure this is the herb they are referring to because the spelling is so similar. On one of the websites that discusses Xi Xian Cao, they say it “expels toxins”. Translation – it’s a laxative.
As for Artemisia Dracunculus, they spelled the name wrong on their website. The herb is spelled Artemisia dracunculus. Other names include Mugwort and Tarragon. I couldn't find one scrap of evidence that this stuff helps weight loss.
I couldn’t find much research at all on this herb but did see some references that in high doses it might cause cancer and may be toxic to the liver. There probably isn't much of this stuff in Phentraburn but I can only say that I personally would not use any product that contains this herb that might do this, especially when I have no guarantee of how much of the herb is being used.
Psyllium Husk
This is fiber – a laxative. Are you sensing a trend with the ingredients in Phentraburn…
Bamboo Shoot
Since bamboo is a plant, it has fiber. You know what fiber does – makes you poop!
The website also mentions that Phentraburn contains “a form of konjac extractive powder” This is the fancy name for Glucomannan. For more info on this ingredient read my Glucosulin review.
Glucomannan has been used in various weight loss supplements for decades.
On the product website, one bottle of Phentraburn costs $75. That is a lot for a fiber supplement if you ask me.
Phentraburn And The FDA
Update 11/7/11. On October 18, 2011, the FDA notified the public that Phentraburn contains sibutramine, a weight-loss drug that was removed from the US market because of safety reasons. Sibutramine – also known as Meridia – can raise heart rate and blood pressure and can be dangerous in people who have heart disease and /or high blood pressure.
In the FDA statement, they say that “Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away. Consumers who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a health care professional as soon as possible.”
How To Return Phentraburn?
I must thank one of the readers of my site for alerting me about this. If you buy Phentraburn and want to return it for a refund, you will have problems because there is no return address listed on the Phentraburn website. There is no phone number to call either.
There is a page that outlines their return policy but it doesn't list an address on where to return it. On the “Privacy Policy” page of the Phentraburn website, I did find this email address info@phentraburn.com.
But, when I tried to email Phentraburn at this email address, my email was immediately returned to me. My email was returned for this reason: “550 No Such User Here [RCPT_TO]” The “RCPT_To” means “mailbox is over quota.
Does It Work?
If Phentraburn works, it's probably because of the drug sibutramine rather than anything else. Sibutramine has been banned in the US because it's risky. Prescription and OTC drugs are also illegal in supplements. That fact alone makes me recommend you steer clear of Phentraburn. Your health is too important.
What do you think?

Evan, Ive never been able to find out why there were two different colored pills. I personally dont like that. Have you ever tried to call the company and find out why?
Are there equal numbers of both colors?
Evan says
So what are the two different kinds of pills? Why is one green and one blue?

One takes you out of the Matrix, the other erases your memory and makes you forget everything Morpheus proposed 🙂 I’m prescribed amphetamines for ADHD, trust me, the weight loss of stimulants becomes short lived. Your body catches up and adjusts your appetite to catch up. For now, I’ll keep hammering on my mindset. Just found your site tonight and I’ll be passing this along to other soldiers in my unit. Thanks!

Ava, Two different colored pills? And nowhere are you told what the difference between them is? I looked on his page. it says he studied communications. I didn’t see any science or nutrition background. Interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

Joe (not blogger Joe)….your saying that if i wanted a sample to take to a private lab and have a chemical property analysis done on it, it wont show the ingredients Joe (S-G) listed…and that he and I have both researched the source and effects of? Joe (S-G) has my email..feel free to ask him for it. I have no problem putting your ingredients to a physical and chemical test….
and am quite capable of having done a documented log of a full spectrum blood work up before / after…including chem 7, a1c, hemoglobin, bp’s, pulse ox, ekg, etc… on the effects of this before and after taking….
Joe (s-g) think he’ll bite? 🙂

Joe, are you the person who runs / owns phentraburn? If so can you tell people how they can return phentraburn if they dont like it? On the phentraburn website there is no address or phone number or email address to contact people who want to return phentraburn. I have tried to contact the company myself and my emails are returned. This is not good. Can you provide people with a way to contact Phentraburn? What is the actual address of the company?
joe says

Hi all…i posted the info before but i dont want anyone to have wrong idea….i showed this blog to a girl friend and she said “it sounds like your a promo for phen phen”….
the 2 ingredients i looked up and posted info on …
yes tarragon and Siegesbeckia have health benefits…IF in proper dosages and the proper species of the plants and with a doctor monitoring you for use. Tarragon used in cooking is not a high enough or frequent enough to do health cures… the only studies i found on siegesbeckia were from the 1800’s and medicine has changed since then.
the rest of the ingredients ..as Joe posted…are not much more then mild laxatives, combined to be a high content laxative that your taking…. I spent a few hours today looking for ANYTHING i could find showing this could have a health benefit / diet -weight loss without being harmful, …..
guess what? i could not find a single thing. the amount of tarragon in the pills would not be sufficient to be of a health benefit. and though Siegesbeckia is supposed to be good for you, it was mainly in dermological means….so as you are feeling the laxative….your skin will look nice and not that deathly look from spending days in ladies room 😀
now…please think about this….
fiber = laxative
tarragon = water retention / help digest food
Siegesbeckia = dermatological
konjac = false full feeling
you take this…eat healthy…go to gym …lose weight…
sounds good …yes? EXCEPT…your digesting and not retaining water nor anything else due to laxative and tarragon effects…and feeling full when not… so the nutrients your taking in due to eating healthy….how well can they possibly be working??
if the body is not getting proper nutrients….then starvation mode can kick in. making easy weight loss in beginning, but harder as time goes on…body is genetically wired to retain what it can when deficiencies occur…the nutrients that your not keeping…because body doesn’t “sort” them….cause unhealthy levels…
just something to think about….since i would not want anyone to think i was promoting this product….from what i read, it seems to be one of the least effective in long runs…

xi’an xi’an cao is actually 2 words…broken to xi’an and xi’an cao
xi’an = from region xi’an
xi’an cao = Siegesbeckia orientalis =
botanical.com =Siegesbeckia
Botanical: Siegesbeckia orientalis (LINN.)
Family: N.O. Compositae
—Synonym—The Holy Herb.
—Parts Used—Juice, leaves, and whole plant.
—Habitat—Isle of Bourbon.
—Description—A small composite plant or small shrub growing in hot climates. The heads are small with an involucre of five bracts covered with very sticky glandular hairs. The secretion continues till after the fruit is ripe and aids in its distribution, the whole head breaking off and attaching itself to some passing animal. In China it is a common weed. The drug contains a white crystalline body resembling salicylic acid.
—Medicinal Action and Uses—Used by Creoles as a protective covering for wounds, burns, etc. The juice when applied to the skin leaves a coating similar to that of collodion. Creoles call it ‘Colle Colle’ – Stick Stick.
In China it is used as a remedy for ague, rheumatism, and renal colic; used in Britain chiefly as a cure for ringworm in conjunction with glycerine. Used in Mauritius Islands for syphilis, leprosy, and various skin diseases.
—Dose—10 minims of the fluid extract.

I cook with tarragon frequently….it is an ingredient in Bearnaise sauce that i serve when i make Steaks Oscar
mugwort and tarragon are apparently different things…
Artemisia Drancunculus = tarragon
Artemisia vulgaris = mugwort
courtesy of webmd:
Tarragon is an herb. Some people call it “mugwort.” Be careful not to confuse tarragon with mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris).
The parts of the tarragon plant that grow above the ground are used to make medicine.
Tarragon is used to treat digestion problems, poor appetite, water retention, and toothache; to start menstruation; and to promote sleep.
In foods and beverages, tarragon is used as a culinary herb.
In manufacturing, tarragon is used as a fragrance in soaps and cosmetics.
How does it work?
Tarragon is a good source of potassium. It also contains ingredients that seem to be able to fight certain bacteria.
