Updated 8/2/21. Do Phentraburn slimming capsules really work? The name is obviously a reference to the weight loss drugs phentermine and Phen-Fen. Phentraburn is another in a long list of weight loss supplements from China. Does Phentraburn work? More importantly, does it burn fat? You'd think it would burn fat since “burn” is in the name! Let's take a close look at this weight loss supplement and see what we can figure out. Also, see the review of Phen375 for more information.
Phentraburn Ingredients
According to the website for the product (Phentraburn.com) the supplement is composed of the following ingredients:
- Xian Xian Ca
- Jobstears
- Artemisia Drancunculus
- Psyllium Husk
- Bamboo Shoot
- Lotus Leaf
- Medicinal Starch
- Mulberry Leaf Extract
These ingredients look very familiar. Several of them – Jobstears, Lotus Leaf, Mulberry Leaf extract – are ingredients found in Beautiful Slim Body and Zi Xiu Tang, which I have already reviewed. All of these ingredients work like laxatives.
Phentraburn also lists “medicinal starch” as an ingredient. Guess what that is? Well, In the weight loss supplement called Beautiful Slim Body, they called it Medicinal Amylum. Starch and Amylum are both starch – so these are the very same thing – just called different names. Didn’t they think we would notice this?
Other ingredients in Phentraburn
Xian Xian Cao. I'm not sure what the heck this stuff is. In my research, I did turn up an herb called Xi Xian Cao. I'm reasonably sure this is the herb they are referring to because the spelling is so similar. On one of the websites that discusses Xi Xian Cao, they say it “expels toxins”. Translation – it’s a laxative.
As for Artemisia Dracunculus, they spelled the name wrong on their website. The herb is spelled Artemisia dracunculus. Other names include Mugwort and Tarragon. I couldn't find one scrap of evidence that this stuff helps weight loss.
I couldn’t find much research at all on this herb but did see some references that in high doses it might cause cancer and may be toxic to the liver. There probably isn't much of this stuff in Phentraburn but I can only say that I personally would not use any product that contains this herb that might do this, especially when I have no guarantee of how much of the herb is being used.
Psyllium Husk
This is fiber – a laxative. Are you sensing a trend with the ingredients in Phentraburn…
Bamboo Shoot
Since bamboo is a plant, it has fiber. You know what fiber does – makes you poop!
The website also mentions that Phentraburn contains “a form of konjac extractive powder” This is the fancy name for Glucomannan. For more info on this ingredient read my Glucosulin review.
Glucomannan has been used in various weight loss supplements for decades.
On the product website, one bottle of Phentraburn costs $75. That is a lot for a fiber supplement if you ask me.
Phentraburn And The FDA
Update 11/7/11. On October 18, 2011, the FDA notified the public that Phentraburn contains sibutramine, a weight-loss drug that was removed from the US market because of safety reasons. Sibutramine – also known as Meridia – can raise heart rate and blood pressure and can be dangerous in people who have heart disease and /or high blood pressure.
In the FDA statement, they say that “Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away. Consumers who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a health care professional as soon as possible.”
How To Return Phentraburn?
I must thank one of the readers of my site for alerting me about this. If you buy Phentraburn and want to return it for a refund, you will have problems because there is no return address listed on the Phentraburn website. There is no phone number to call either.
There is a page that outlines their return policy but it doesn't list an address on where to return it. On the “Privacy Policy” page of the Phentraburn website, I did find this email address info@phentraburn.com.
But, when I tried to email Phentraburn at this email address, my email was immediately returned to me. My email was returned for this reason: “550 No Such User Here [RCPT_TO]” The “RCPT_To” means “mailbox is over quota.
Does It Work?
If Phentraburn works, it's probably because of the drug sibutramine rather than anything else. Sibutramine has been banned in the US because it's risky. Prescription and OTC drugs are also illegal in supplements. That fact alone makes me recommend you steer clear of Phentraburn. Your health is too important.

Cee, I would not take Phentraburn given the FDA letter that it contained an illegal weight loss drug linked to serious medical problems. I linked to the letter in my review.

Last I heard about SmartSupplements is that it appears to be run by a guy in NYC. Susana, Ive never heard of them but the webiste is primitive – its basically just a page and the ability to buy it. Its pretty easy to make a website these days. For example, here is my step by step guide to how to make website in less than 1 hour.
The contact gives this address 1425 West Schaumburg Rd. Schaumburg, IL 60194. The link shows what it looks like – it looks like the guys house! So Im guessing he buys the stuff from somewhere and resells it. That’s what I think is going on

Some of these things Ive already looked at in other products. Psyllium is basically fiber but either way if these are the ingredients, I don’t feel good about it.
I took these and lost about 40lb in 6months. I looked better than I ever did in my entire life. In December, I randomly passed out and did major damage to my face. Think it has something to do with the pills?

I’ve been Keeping tabs on this product and after the FDA said Phentraburn had a weight loss drug. Recently I got an email from the guy who sells Phentraburn – Joey something or other. This is what the email said :
“AS YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW..THE WEBSITE IS DOWN.. PROBLEMS WITH MY MANUFACTURERS.. SO I AM COMING OUT WITH A NEW PRODUCT CALLED “BURN 5 WEIGHT LOSS CAPSULES” WHICH WILL BE LIKE THE PHENTRA… (made by another manufacturer).. BUT I AM STOCKED WITH PHENTRA’S SO IF ANYONE NEEDS LET ME KNOW I WILL OFFER SPECIALS :)!!”
Why would anybody buy ANYTHING from this guy? He does not even mention the weight loss drug and he says the new product will “be like phentra” – does that mean it TOO will have Sibutramine? I say beware of Burn 5 weight loss capsules.
It baffles me how people can knock something they have never tried. I’m a fitness model, work out 6+ times a week, and am probably in better shape than any “scientist” in this room.
That being said, I strongly believe this stuff works. Anyone who knows how to build muscle knows that synthesis can only occur when more protein is consumed. Of course, the side effect is weight gain… It is not possible to gain pure muscle at once, but rather gaining both muscle and fat, and then lowering calories safely to take off the fat.
Eating Clean ( for those of you who don;t know what that is, look it up) is the hardest part of the healthy lifestyle. Especially when you’re Italian, and mom is making you your favorite pasta dishes for dinner. Phentraburn will help suppress your appetite and sway your cravings for this junk. In return, you will make better choices, eat smaller more frequent meals, and trim that mid section. If anyone doesn’t believe me, I will show you before and after pics of me 🙂 Just let me know!
Josh, well of course Phentraburn works – it contains the weight loss drug Sibutramine . The FDA alerted everybody to this fact this week. Without Sibutramine – also known as Meridia – Phendraburn does not work. Sibutramine is the active ingredient. Glad your doing well as a fitness model but looking healthy and being healthy are not the same thing. That is the problem with fashion industry -and most of the fitness industry too.. Even thought my site is about supplements, we both know that when it comes to “beauty” , a lot of what we see in magazines is airbrushed and computer enhanced, which lead to to unrealistic expectations and even eating disorders in people. Fashion and fitness both put too much emphasis on looking good on the outside.
As for building muscle, protein is important but I must add that you also have to eat more calories. Carbs are also important also because the carbs help protect your body protein from being digested for fuel.
I wanted to let everybody know that the FDA has found the drug Sibutramine in Phentraburn and is advising people to throw it away and see a doctor if you have any side effects. Sorry I never saw your response Joe. When Joey began marketing these pills they were originally blue capsules and they were awfully strong. I was a good friend of his that sampled it for him when he first started. I advised him of all the side effects and he decided to incorporate another “lower” dosage of the pill which were green capsules. He then began first distributing the strong blue ones to people when they first ordered because it really suppresses your appetite and people would see results with the first bottle. When they reordered he would ship out the green “lower” dosage of pills which were pretty much bogus. Hope that clarifies some.

I know the guy – he’s a huge scam, total guido, and has no idea what he’s doing. A quote on a bottle of those from these companies in China is almost nothing… he just marks it up to $75/bottle so that he makes $70/bottle since he has to order 10 at a time… he just makes sure he covers his cost on an order of 10 just by selling 1 bottle.

Instead of spending time researching the ingredients to products, just directly research the source. It’ll make your life a lot easier to decide what’s a scam BS and what’s not.

Tobia, Im glad you’ve lost weight as well. I belive its its kinjac root (glucomannan) thats the active ingredient in phentraburn. It makes you feel full when it swells in size in the stomach. If you search this site for “glucamannan” and “konjac” you’ll see several other wt loss supplements that contain it.
Are you losing more weight now than you were before you started taking Phentraburn? how much (days and minutes per week) are you working out? just curious.
Seeing is believing…I’ve been taking this supplement for 6 wks and I have never looked or felt better in all of the years of dieting. It’s a supplement, not a miracle pill. As with any supplement, diet and exercise play a huge role in weight loss.
