I was shopping at CVS when I got a text message asking me what flat stomach teas I liked. At that very instant, my eyes were drawn to a pink box in the vitamin isle – Flat Tummy Tea. Was it a fluke or fate? Either way, I was pretty sure I knew what one of the ingredients in this teatox probably was, but to double check, I snapped some pictures and wrote this Flat Tummy Tea review to help you -and my friend – understand it better. Does Flat Tummy Tea really flatten your tummy? Better yet, will it help you lose weight? Let's look at the ingredients and see what we can discover about how it works.

What Is Flat Tummy Tea?
While the name tells you what it is, this flat belly tea is actually 2 different things which are to be taken at different times. There is:
- Activate Tea (take it in the day)
- Cleanse Tea (take it at night)
Each box contains 1 packet of both.
The Activate Tea contains 10 natural ingredients said to “support your metabolism, give you an antioxidant energy kick and get your digestion ready to start the day on an all natural high.” Sounds good but antioxidants don't give us energy.
The Cleanse Tea contains 7 ingredients said to “detoxify your intestinal tract” which is then supposed to“to help get (and keep) that tummy flat.” Skip down to the detox section for more on this.
Claims For Flat Tummy Tea
From what can be gathered, flat belly tea is supposed to:
- Detoxify the intestines
- Speed up metabolism
- Reduce bloating
- Cleanse your system and improve digestion
Flat Tummy Tea Proof
Clinical proof showing Flat Tummy Tea really works cannot be located. The website for the supplement (FlatTummyCo.com) lists no clinical studies on this tea detox supplement. Likewise, no research could be found on clinical websites either. So, to better figure out Flat Tummy Tea works, we need to look at its ingredients.
Lets do that next.
Flat Tummy Tea Ingredients
Here are the ingredients in both the Activate Tea and Cleans Tea side by side:
Activate Tea | Cleanse Tea |
Proprietary Blend 1497mg | Proprietary blend 1597 mg |
Peppermint (leaf) | Senna (leaf) |
Lemon balm (leaf) | Peppermint (leaf) |
Liquorice (root) | Cassia chamaecrista (pods) |
Dandelion (leaf and root) | Liquorice (root) |
Cleavers (leaf) | Caraway (seeds) |
Fennel (seed) | Dandelion (root) |
Green tea (leaf) | Rhubarb (root) |
Caraway (seed) | |
Cardamom (pods) |
As can be seen, both Activate Tea and Cleanse Tea are made up of two different proprietary blends:
- Activate Tea: 1497 mg
- Cleanse Tea: 1597 mg
While they don't tell us how much of each ingredient makes up these blends, we know ingredients listed at the top make up the most while those at the bottom of the lists make up the least. For example, since peppermint and senna are listed first, they make up most of the Activate and Cleanse blends respectively.
Flat Tummy Tea And Weight Loss
While there is no direct proof Flat Tummy Tea helps people lose weight, it might do that based on its ingredients. From what can be gathered, the weight loss is probably due to water and fecal matter loss and not fat loss. Several herbs in Flat Tummy Tea appear to increase urination and bowel movements. Here is a breakdown:
Activate Tea
- Liquorice (bowel movements)
- Dandelion (urination)
- Cleavers /Galium aparine (urination)
- Fennel (bowel movements)
- Green tea (bowel movements)
- Cardamom (urination)
Cleanse Tea
- Senna (bowel movements)
- Cassia chamaecrista /Partridge pea (bowel movements)
- Liquorice (bowel movements)
- Dandelion (urination)
- Rhubarb (bowel movements)
As can be seen from these lists, several ingredients in Flat Tummy Tea seem to cause water loss as well as increase bowel movement frequency. With bowel movements, come loss of internal gas too. This likely contributes to the flat tummy effect.
When I checked online testimonials, I saw several who said it did not make them run to the bathroom. That's good. Many said their bowel movement frequency was not significantly different.
Who Makes Flat Tummy Tea?
Here is a summary of what I found when I looked into this company.
The company is called Flat Tummy Co. The Better Business Bureau, lists them as “Flat Tummy Tea.” The Better Business Bureau lists the company address as 271 Upper North Road Highland, NY 12528-2615. This is the same address as the Caraway Tea company (CarawayTea.com).
Still another company in the mix is Synergy CHC (Synergychc.com), a publicly traded consumer health and beauty company whose stock symbol is SNYR. Synergy CHC lists Flat Tummy Tea as one of their products along with other familiar supplements Focus Factor (see review).
While Flat Tummy Tea seems to be an Australian company (Australian Business Number 60 729 939), Synergy CHC has a US address: 865 Spring Street Westbrook, ME 04092. From an article at Seeking Alpha we learn the Caraway Tea company makes Flat tummy Tea for Synergy CHC.
Cut to the chase: so what does this mean?
It means Flat Tummy Co is an Australian company. The parent company is called Synergy CHC. The tummy tea is made in the US by the Caraway Tea company in New York. Does this matter to you? That's up to you to decide.
Flat Tummy Tea BBB Rating
The Better Business Bureau gave Flat Tummy Tea a rating of “D-“ when this review was updated. See the BBB file for updates and more information.
Detox With Flat Tummy Tea
So what kind of results can you expect from this flat stomach tea? Well, I'm pretty sure it will cause you to poop a little more. That's because it contains senna, a well known laxative found in many cleansing supplements. Senna will cause some weight loss but that's due primarily from water and poop. Some gas from the intestines may be lost too and that contributes to the flat stomach effects.
Here is a short video I found which I think is worth taking a look at:
Flat Tummy Tea And The Micobiome
Anything that causes you to go to the bathroom more than usual can potentially alter the bacteria living inside you (the microbiome). The alteration of the microbiome is likely temporary though. I'm sure the microbiome will eventually go back to normal once you resume your regular eating patterns.

Flat Tummy Tea Questions
Can Men Use Flat Tummy Tea?
There is little doubt this flat belly tea is mostly marketed to women. The pink package, the pictures of women on the site and the word “babe” sprinkled through the website tells us this supplement is marketed to women. That said, I see no reason men could not use this too.
How To Use Flat Tummy Tea
The Activate Tea is to be used in the morning while the Cleanse Tea is to be used at night. Both the Activate Tea and Cleanse Tea have specific directions on the packets. Follow the directions.
The tea does not come in teabags. It's loose. You should either strain the tea before you drink it or use a tea diffuser. This will prevent bits of the tea floating in your cup.
Will You Get Flatter Abs?
From the before and after YouTube videos I saw, I believe Flat Tummy Tea will cause some reduction in waist circumference. What I did not see though was how long the flattened midsection lasts. Is it a weekend, a week or more? I can't believe flatter abs would last forever. After all, the company does have an autoship program. If your flat abs lasted forever, you would not have to use it again.
Can Flat Tummy Tea Help You Pass a Drug Test?
There is no proof Flat Belly Tea will detox your body of illegal drugs.
Return Flat Tummy Tea
Supplements purchased from The Flat Tummy website can be returned by mailing the products to the following location:
Flat Tummy Co
271 Upper North Road
Highland, NY 12528, USA.
Before returning supplements, it's suggested you contact the company first to get specific return instructions.
Call: 845-236-3645 This is the phone number of the Caraway Tea company (CarawayTea.com). This is the company which makes the detox tea. Be aware the company issues no refunds after 60 days from the date you purchase the tea or other flat tummy supplements.
Do You Have To Exercise?
While the company website doesn't recommend a specific type of exercise, it's good to remember exercise during weight loss helps you hold onto your muscle. The Flat Tummy Tea website does say you'll get better results if you exercise a little. I agree.
Do You Have To Diet When Using The Tea?
The Flat Tummy website mentions “if you eat pizza and sit on the couch all day, Flat Tummy Tea probably won't save you.” I'm glad to see this level of honesty.
How Does Flat Tummy Tea Taste?
I did not try this product but after looking at online testimonials, you can expect the Activate Tea to taste like water. Many said it didn't really have any taste. Some have said the Cleanse Tea has a subtle sweet taste to it.
Does It Have Caffeine?
Flat Tummy Tea has no caffeine. It's also soy free and dairy free.
Will You Run To The Bathroom?
Because this flat stomach tea contains senna, I think you should expect to go to the bathroom more than usual. Will you have to “run” to the bathroom due to the overwhelming urge to go #2? I can't say as I did not try this supplement. Some online testimonials said their bathroom trips did not change.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. The Competition
Let's take a quick look at how this flat stomach tea compares to some other products you may have heard of.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. Fit Tea
Fit Tea is another popular detox tea although as you can tell from the name the emphasis is on fitness and not having a flat stomach. Both teas have different ingredients which makes it hard to compare them. See the Fit Tea review for much more on that product.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. 3 Ballerina Tea
As friend told me about the popularity of 3 Ballerina Tea in the modeling world. Both teas have senna as a common ingredient. Senna is a laxative. In fact, senna is the only ingredient in 3 Ballerina tea. See the 3 Ballerina Tea review for an in-depth review and more insights.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. BaeTea
BaeTea appears to be the most popular detox tea on Amazon with over 5000 reviews the last time I checked. Except for green tea, both of these detox teas have no ingredients in common. I did notice BaeTea has garcinia cambogia, which I am not a fan of.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. Hey Girl Tea
I don't know why but I always smile at the name Hey Girl tea. Hey Girl Cleanse tea has some ingredients in common with Flat Tummy tea such as senna. A cup of Hey Girl Tea provides about 3 grams of many herbs, mostly senna (because it's listed first). Because of this, my guess is Hey Girl Tea might make you go to the bathroom more than Flat Tummy Tea, which provides around 1 gram of senna.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. Apple Cider Vinegar
I was surprised to not see apple cider vinegar in any detox teas. That's ironic given evidence apple cider vinegar may help people lose weight. The ways they work are different. Apple cider vinegar isn't a laxative. Rather, it seems to block an enzyme involved in energy production. See the Apple Cider Vinegar review.
Flat Tummy Tea vs. FBCX
FBCX is a fat binding compound which some evidence suggest may lead to weight loss. How does it work? It basically works similar to fat blocker drugs like Xenical (Orlistat). As FBCX blocks fat, it also blocks calories. The way FBCX works is different than detox teas like Flat Tummy. See the FBCX review for more insights.
Flat Tummy Tea Side Effects
In healthy people, Flat Tummy Tea is probably safe. Here are a few things to consider when using this supplement. This list is not complete:
- Start with less than recommended for the first week. This is to see how you respond.
- Do not use this supplement if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Stop taking the tea at least 2 weeks before having surgery
- Don't take this if you have heart or blood pressure or kidney problems
- Speak to your doctor and pharmacist if you take any medications such as, laxatives, diuretics, diabetes medicine, or meds for heart disease or high blood pressure. When in doubt, if you take ANY medicine, ask your doctor.
- Some people report their bowel movements smell differently when they use Flat Tummy Tea
- Some online reviewers have said they felt nauseous and had temporary lymph node swelling
Does Flat Tummy Tea Really Work?
I think Flat Tummy Tea will probably work temporary. The same is true for other weight loss teas I've seen. The before and after videos I saw and online testimonials are proof enough for me. But, how long will your flat tummy last? That's the real question. Because many of the ingredients might increase urination and bowel movements, this indicates most of the weight you lose is due to water and fecal matter (poop). Some gas from your intestines would be expelled too and this is probably contributes to flat tummy results. Remember, results will vary.
Michael says
I tried flat tummy tea earlier this year. I did notice a little difference in the size of my stomach but after I stopped taking it, I was back to normal in a week or so.
Joe says
Hi Michael, yes I think if Flat Tummy Tea really works, it is just a temporary fix. I don’t think the results are permanent.
Zee says
So it makes you fart – thats how flat tummy tea works?
Joe says
Hi Zee, yes that is how I believe Flat Tummy Tea works. Did you try it? Did you notice increased farting?
