The name Abdominal Cuts makes me think that this weight loss supplement will give people a 6 pack –or at least give the ads a more “cut” appearance. But will Abdominal Cuts work? The name grabbed my attention as I'm sure it did yours so let me now review Abdominal Cuts so that I can save you time and energy searching for answers.
Who Makes Abdominal Cuts?
Abdominal Cuts is made by a company called Revolution Life Style. Another name for Revolution is Corr-Jensen Labs. The address is 6341 S. Troy Circle, Suite E, Centennial, CO 80016. Their phone number is (303) 468-4215. According to the Better Business Bureau the company was started in 2005. The Better Business Bureau gives the company a rating of “A” and has no complaints when I wrote this review. Do see the BBB file for updates and additional information.
When I Google “Corr-Jensen Labs” I couldn’t find a website for this company. Everything I saw had to do with Revolution Life Style and Abdomial Cuts. Even the Better Business Bureau lists “revolutionlifestyle.com” – an the Ab Cuts website – as the website for Corr-Jensen Labs. To me, this says that Corr Jensen labs may just be a fancy, science-sounding name for a supplement company.
Notice in the address of Corr Jensen Labs it says “Suite E.” That tells me that that Corr Jensen Labs may be located an office building.
Abdominal Cuts Research
I am unable to find any peer reviewed research on Ab Cuts itself. If that's the case then the only way to know if it works or not is to look at its ingredients.
Abdominal Cuts Ingredients
- CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) 500 mg (from Safflower oil)
- GLA (gamma linolenic acid) 75 mg (from Borage oil)
- ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) 50 mg (from flaxseed oil)
- EPA and DHA 150 mg
- Sesamin 25 mg (from sesame seed oil)
Ab Cuts also has 6.7 mg of vitamin E which is likely used as an antioxidant. All of the ingredients in Abdominal Cuts are fats and the vitamin E is likely used to prevent them from spoiling.
The first thing you need to know is that there is no published scientific evidence that the combination of these ingredients causes weight loss. The other thing to remember is that there is no published scientific evidence that Abdominal Cuts causes weight loss either. That’s a little ironic for a company with a scientific sounding name like “Corr-Jensen Labs.”
So, let’s look at each ingredient in Ab Cuts and see if any of these has any evidence.
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA).
Several studies have noted that CLA may help weight loss in some overweight people. More specifically, CLA seems to alter the fat to muscle ratio rather than cause weight loss. How does CLA work? Well, some think CLA causes the death of fat cells.
The weight loss benefits of CLA usually start showing up when people use at least 1.8 grams per day. That’s a lot more CLA than is in Abdomial Cuts.
People who have diabetes or metabolic syndrome or who are at risk for them –overweight people –should be cautious about CLA. There is evidence that CLA seems to increase levels of pro-insulin – the unrefined, not fully processed, version of insulin.
Pro-insulin does not work as well as fully formed insulin.
This means that people who take CLA supplements may not be able to process sugar (glucose) as well. This might raise blood sugar levels and increase the risk of type II diabetes. The technical name for this condition is “ Hyper-pro-insulin-emia”.
There are different types of CLA. Unfortunately the form of CLA that seems to help with fat loss also seems to be the same that increase blood sugar levels. Most supplements are a mixture of CLA types. Therefore it’s hard to tell if CLA supplements increase type II diabetes risk or not. Still, it may be wise for people at risk for type II diabetes to have their sugar levels checked regularly if they use CLA supplements.
Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA)
This is a fatty acid. On other supplements you may see GLA listed as Evening Primrose Oil. I can’t find much GLA-weight loss research. In one 12 week study of GLA and weight loss in 100 overweight women, GLA did not work. I had to go back to 1983 to find this study.
I can’t find any other research on GLA and weight loss.
GLA is also found in Japanese Hokkaido weight loss pills so check out that review for more info.
Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA)
This is derived from flaxseed oil. The Ab Cuts website says that ALA can help with “physique improvement”.
Notice the use of the vague phrase “physique improvement.” Supplement websites often use vague – yet smart-sounding terms and phrases – to sound like they know what they are talking about. For example, check out all the big $3 words used to describe Jillian Michaels weight loss supplement. This product used some of the most bizarre words I've ever seen!
One study seemed to show that ALA helped obese mice lose weight. Another study, published in 2010 found that ALA increased calorie burning in mice too.
But, where are the people studies? Where are the studies that prove ALA helps people lose weight? Ironically, here is a study that showed ALA caused people to gain weight!
Fatty acids are basically just fat. Each gram of fat has 9 calories. That’s a lot. Therefore it kind of makes sense that people who eat a lot of fat – or fatty acids – might gain weight.
Here is a study where ALA from Chia Seeds did not help weight loss in either men or women.
Given what I can find on this issue, for now, I'm unimpressed with the weight loss evidence for ALA.
EPA and DHA
Most of us know these as the “fish oils.” If you take a fish oil supplement you are already getting EPA and DHA. There are many studies on the benefits of fish oils but for here, let’s just focus on the weight loss proof.
There is some research that eating fish can help weight loss. This may have something to do with the hormone leptin which is secreted from fat cells. As for fish oil supplements, there is not as much proof that the supplements help weight loss.
For more info, see my review of Krill oil supplements.
Sesamin (sesame seed oil)
When I searched the National Library of Medicine for “sesamin and weight loss” nothing showed up. I can’t find any studies that prove Sessamin helps weight loss in humans.
Here is a study where the combination of sesamin and fish oil increased fat oxidation (fat burning) in the livers or rats. But did those rats lose any weight? Remember, fat burning and weight loss do not always mean the same thing.
Update. After I published this review I was made aware of a study published in 2008 titled:
Effect of a conjugated linoleic acid and omega-3 fatty acid mixture on body composition and adiponectin. In this study, younger and older skinny and obese men were randomly given a combination of CLA and omega 3 fatty acids. This study noted that this combination prevented fat mass gain in the abdominal area in younger men.
This could lend some evidence in favor of Ab Cuts but the study did not specifically use Ab Cuts so its hard to know for sure. Another issue is that the people in the study used more CLA (3 to 6 grams) and more EPA /DHA (3 g/day) than is recommended for Ab Cuts. Still, this is an interesting study and appears to be very well done.
How Much Does Ab Cuts Cost?
On the Abdominal Cuts website – revolutionlifestyle.com – they say Ab Cuts costs $47.99. That is a lot of money for a product that doesn't seem to have any scientific proof that it works. Here is Abdominal Cuts on Amazon for those who want to compare prices and read the comments from others.
Ingredients in Abdominal Cuts That Are Fat
- CLA
- GLA
- ALA
- EPA and DHA
- Sesamie seed oil
All of the ingredients in Abdominal Cuts are fats (fatty acids). I am pointing this out because, you see, when you eat fat, you burn more fat. I know that sounds weird, but it is true. The problem is that you burn more fat from what you eat, than your own body fat.
This logic of “eat fat, burn fat” was the same reasoning behind the supplement called Slim Shots that I reviewed previously. Read my Slim Shots review for more info on that product.
This also technically means that you burn more fat when you eat pizza and other fatty foods too. It’s true. So why don’t you lose weight if you eat a whole pizza? Well, pizza has a lot of calories and many of those calories are stored as extra fat.
Calories are what weight loss is all about. The people behind Ab Cuts knows this too. I know they do because on the Abdominal Cuts website they say “nutritional supplements must be used in correlation to a healthy diet.”
That’s their fancy way of saying Abdominal Cuts probably won’t work if you don’t watch what you eat.
Is there any proof that people eating a healthy, low calorie diet + using the Ab Cuts supplement, lose more weight than people who just eat healthy? No.
Kendra Wilkinson and Abdomial Cuts
I honestly have no idea who Kendra Wilkinson is but I hear she’s saying she lost weight using Abdominal Cuts. Maybe she did – but was that all she did to lose weight? My guess is that she is most likely being paid to be a spokesperson for Ab Cuts.
Testimonials can be the jumping-off point for good research, but unfortunately they are often used as a smokescreen to keep you from knowing the real facts.
For example, check out the “update” on my post about Jennifer Nicole Lee, the spokesperson behind the Ab Circle Pro after she was interviewed on 20/20.
Abdominal Cuts Side Effects
Abdominal Cuts probably won’t hurt anyone who is healthy, but people who have health issues should run this product past a doctor before using. Theoretically, some of the ingredients may cause problems that you should be aware of.
For example, both fish oil and GLA might interact with blood thinner medications. As I mentioned above, CLA may raise the risk of type II diabetes. Alpha linoleic acid may increase prostate cancer risk.
ALA may also raise triglyceride levels – which is a risk factor for heart disease. I doubt if the level of the level of ingredients in Abdominal Cuts will do any of these things (the blood thinner side effect is what I’m most concerned about) but I thought it would be good to mention this since Abdominal Cuts is being touted to millions of people.
At least one woman in the US developed liver problems after taking CLA. This woman also had the sickle-cell anemia trait. The rate of liver problems appears to be rare. To be safe, do see to your doctor if you have liver problems, the sickle cell trait or develop any abdominal pain after using CLA supplements.
Does Ab Cuts Work?
Hard to say. In theory, eating fat might slow digestion and hence, make people less likely to get hungry and over eat. This might be one way that Ab Cuts might work. That said, because Ab Cuts has no direct published proof, its hard to say. For those who want to compare prices and read the comments of others who tried this product, here is Abdominal Cuts on Amazon.
What do you think?
Denise says
I have been taking Ab Cuts for 2 months now and I have lost 12lbs so far. Prior to this I worked out 3 to 4 times a week and was at a stand still, I haven’t changed my lifestyle at all and will continue to take it as long as I keep seeing results.
Arlene says
Sandy, I am also having problems with my weight. When I was youger I was a toothpick and couldn’t gain weight to save my life until I had kids and got thyroid disease. My family doctor and my endocrinologist both say my thyroid levels are within range but my body tells me something isn’t quite right.
Sometimes things like this are hereditary. I eat much less than I used to and I now eat whole grains and more fruit and veggies. My metabolism seemed to change when I was pregnant the first time and had gestational diabetes. I was skinny but had to diet anyway. Just eat to feel better rather than lose weight. The thing that helped me best was completely cutting out refined sugar. Helped my mood a lot.
Read “Lick the Sugar Habit.” I know a lot of happy overweight people!
Madeleine says
Hi
I am hypo glycemic so reading your website here has made me pretty nervous about this product. I started on it one week ago, I have lost a pound or two but mainly….my body is starting to respond fairly quickly. I am small and not very overweight. But for me I had gained an xtra 10 lbs I did not like.
I had also gotten a little tummy. (woman) My stomach has flattened and i feel more toned, my clothes even feel looser. But I modified everything, I quit eating big meals late at night, I eat more but tiny wholesome meals….I cut out lots of carbs, sweets and wine.
I dont feel my body would have toned so quickly without the Abs cut, I have done this recently before and nothing! This did seem like a jump start. But when i lose the 5 or 10 I am going off of them and not going back. I have to say I have more energy but am not jumpy or jittery or get shaky. thanks for your research.
Sasha says
Hey Joe! I was just wondering have you ever heard of the diet pill Cellucor Super HD. I purchased it about a 3weeks ago, so far I have noticed any changes. Have you ever heard of it.
Joe says
Sasha, Ive never heard of it. Id think you would see changes after 3 weeks if it was going to work.
Debbie says
Hi Joe. I tried Cellucor Super HD last summer, after the first 3 weeks, the weight started coming off and I had loads of energy. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months, felt great. You have to go off it for a month or so, when I did this, and then went back to taking it again a month or more ago, I’m not having the same results at all. I try and run and brisk walk every day, but I’m not getting the same results. I foolishly bought what this column is about, the abcuts, but I think it is one to take before bed, along with OxyElite Pro. I was probably foolish. Any thoughts on OxyElite Pro? I wouldn’t bother with these supplements, but I’m a 55 year old woman who feels like she’s still 17 but it’s harder to maintain weight now. Ugh.
Joe says
Debbie, as I understand it oxy elite pro may have contained the stimulatnt DMAA that the FDA is looking to ban in the US
here is an article on it http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/13/business/fda-issues-warning-on-workout-booster.html?_r=0
As a rule I don’t like stimulants for weight loss products. Here are my thoughts on weight loss products that might shed some light on things http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/
Debbie says
Oooh, and ouch. that’s pretty frightening. Thanks for posting that article. I took one Oxyelite one day and felt terrible. Sick, nausated with headache. I dared to take one this afternoon before a run. I was curious as to how I would feel. I didn’t feel sick this time.
After reading the article, i want to bring the pills back. I feel like a wimp for resorting to pills, but it’s just maddening to have to work even harder than ever after a certain age. I don’t want to be a slave to exercise. I do enjoy running though. I used to take a total body workout class but they cut it from 1 hour 2days a week to 45 minutes 1 day for the same amount of money. Thanks for sharing the links.
Joe says
Debbie, thanks I’m glad I was able to help!

I also bought abcuts form Walmart cost was $20 for, 80 tablets. I’m a bodybuilder but nuthing to crazy I’m 5’11 205lbs and I Allready had decent six pack before purchaseing. I work on my abs professionaly every single day or the most I can put in. The reason why I started useing AbsCut was to have more lean body. So I tried lowering my BPF “body percentage fat” within a week of useing this supplement I felt that it kicks in pretty well, I hate cardio becuase of muscle loss so this was pretty good alternative for me. I’m almost done with my bottle probably another visite to Walmart Soon! Worked for me but I’m not sure if it’s the pills or my new changes into diet. The only side effect I felt was first 3 days of cramps in my stomach, thought it was normal becuase working on your stomach constantly you should expect some pain but it was more of a noaschiius type of pain. Anyways I only recommend AbsCut to people who want to tone out more. Highly dout this will work on people who are overweight excessively just not enough. Oh it’s all natural another reason why I love it! Sorry for my spelling if you guys have hard time reading this thanks -Armani

Sandy I wasn’t trying to “target” you. I apologise if you felt that way. Honestly I just feel the u.s.a has a serious issue. We are the most obese country in the world and I am from the southeast and we as a region are worse than everyone else. If your not eating enough and frequently enough your metabolism will slow down and you won’t lose weight. All of the jenny craig and nutra system programs will all encourage you to eat 5 times daily at 150 -200 calories a meal with regular daily exercise. Again sorry if I offended with my other comment.
Sandy says
Joe, re-comment from Patrick-I was just wondering if he read all my comments and not just the last one? He kind of made me fell targeted. If he read all my comments he would know I do not go to fast food places, I do not eat potatoes of any kind nor red meat. I eat baked fish or chicken. I try to drink at least 32-40oz of H2O a day and I exercise mostly in the am. I had asked if you thought I was not eating enough. When we do go out which isn’t often I order just a chicken sandwich no butter, or a childs portion and give part of that to my husband. My husband thinks I should try Jenny Craig, but I don’t think I could eat all the food they expect you to in one day. Any thoughts?
Joe says
Sandy, Ive heard good things about Jenny Craig. I believe consumer reports even gave it high marks also in 2011. You can always try it for a month and see if it helps. You should know in a month if its helping. Don’t feel bad about anything that somebody else says. Sometimes its hard to convey feelings though words, especially those that are types on the internet. I’m sure no harm was meant.
Patrick says
Joe I have been reading some of your site and some of the comments on here from others. The thing I think people need to understand is that there is no pill you can take that will make you physically fit. If your popping two ab cuts before you eat a double cheese burger than it doesn’t benefit you at all. There are products that will help you have more energy to work out there are products to help you recover quickly from that work out and pills that increase your metabolism.
however if you don’t use them with a workout schedule that involves 7 to 10 hrs a week of gym time then you will never have abs and arms like Ryan Reynolds. So if your not willing to work hard and eat right. Just your cash for lipo suction.
DAVE says
I purchased this product and it doesn’t work for me. Another way to blow money on sh… that doesn’t work.
Sandy says
One 8oz glass is 80 calories and the cereal is 160 calories. I was wondering if I’m not eating enough so that what I do eat is getting stored up as fat. I did talk to a dietitian but that was a year ago. Is there actually anything on the market that is real and is targeted for belly fat?
Joe says
Sandy, in all the years I have looked at weight loss products Ive never seen any proof that any of them can specifically target just belly fat. In none of the classes Ive ever taken in college, did any college professor or textbook ever say this was possible. On the contrary they all said it was not possible to “spot reduce.” The good news though is that when we do lose weight, we tend to lose it from the belly faster than at other places.
Sandy says
I don’t think I am over eating, I do my horse chores, walk one of my three dogs about a mile-come home walk my 2 older dogs, about 20 minutes. Eat a dish of cereal, a glass of V8 splash and type. I do eat sunflower kernels about 1/4 cup and 1 can of soda. Lunch is small portion of whatever I make for my husband. I don’t eat potatoes or bread. My husband says I don’t eat enough, that meal is around 3:00pm. I may have a snack later on but that is basically what I eat. When we go out I order childs portions or just a sandwich. I have a male doctor that did my blood work for my thyroid test.
Joe says
Hi Sandy, I may be wrong but there is a part of me who wonders about the calories your eating at breakfast. A “dish” of cereal (what kind of cereal?) and a “glass” of V8 fusion. How many calories are in that dish and glass? They may be more than you think. Try measuring them out and see if they lines up with the serving size. It is possible you may not be eating enough. I dont want you to eat less if that’s the case. One idea; have you ever met with a dietitian who can look at all your eating and give you a more informed idea of whats going on. you can find an RD in your area at this website http://www.EatRight.org
Kalifa says
Most cereals and V8 have too much sugar. Sugar is one of the major reasons for not losing weight. Thanks for that link to eatright.org. Most people dont know that the main key to losing weight and being healthy is eating right.
Joe says
Thanks Kalifa. That’s a neat website you have also 🙂
Laura says
Sandy,
Do you have a male Dr.? I have both and when my male Dr looked at my thyroid levels years ago and they were within the “normal” limits and he said I was fine. When my female Dr.’s reviewed the levels they said woman need higher levels to be normal. I have been on thyroid meds for years due to this and my levels never improve. I, like you, sit at a desk all day and only lose weight with strenuous exercise and strict dieting.
Sandy says
Yes, I have had my thyroid tested and it is exactly where it should be, I am 58 but very active so I’m not sure what will work. My doctor seems to think it is because I type 8 hours a day and I do all my chores and dog walking in the morning.
Joe says
Sandy, well if you are sitting 8 hrs a day it may mean that you are eating too many calories (Im guessing at this). have you ever sat down with a dietitian to see if they can help? if not I recommend it. the site eatright.org lets you find an RD in your area. try also writing down what you eat as this can help weight loss too.
Not sure if I shared this but here is a post that has other ideas that might help http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/
patrick says
Joe- First time ive read your site. I just finished a bottle of Mega Shred from Complete nutrition. I saw this product at walmart as well and was thinking of picking it up since it had alot of the same ingredients and makes the same claims as the Mega Shred. Except the mega shred is $89 a bottle and the Ab Cuts is 19 dollars. Have you heard of Mega Shred? Do you think it could be a comparable product??
Joe says
Patrick I’ve never heard of mega shred. I searched for it but could not find a website for the product. If you have a website for the product Ill take a look at it for you.
Sandy says
Joe,
I am on my second bottle of abcut and haven’t lost any weight at all. I type 8 hrs a day, but I have horses that it takes about an hour to do the chores and I have two dogs that I walk everyday for about 1/2 hr now as they are older. I have also been riding my bike, but can’t seem to lose. I just heard of a product called Apidexin any comments on that one?
Joe says
Hi Sandy, yes, I’ve written a review of Apidexin here is the link http://supplementclarity.com/apidexin-review-weight-loss/
Have you gotten thyroid tested by your doctor? if your thyroid hormone is low, it can make it hard to lose weight. Just a thought I had while reading what you wrote.
TK says
AbCuts have worked for me. I am a man and was looking for something that could curve my hunger. I found my bottle at Wal-mart and only paid $18.99 for 80 tablets. I have lost 15 pounds in 4 weeks while using it. I know this is not a genie in a bottle and since I have changed my eating habits this product has been helpful in doing so. Thats my two cents.
Joe says
TK thanks for your 2 cents 🙂 the price you paid is a LOT less than I saw it for so that’s good.
Abby kay says
I too have bought my bottle at Walmart last night actually. Now after seeing this mans review, i dont feel like omg! I wasted my money! Hopefully it works for me as it did for him!
Joe says
Abby, you must mean somebody’s comment on my review. I didn’t say it worked in my review. Either way, I hope it helps you.
T says
This is the first time to your site. I have read a few reviews for hair loss and weightloss. So far it seems you havn’t found anything you would recommend. Are there any products in the subjects you touch most on the you feel are scientifically sound and you would suggest?
Thanks
Joe says
T, so far when it comes to weight loss, most products appear to be the same basic ingredients in products which have different names. I touched on this in a post I wrote on my other website http://www.joe-cannon.com/what-weight-loss-supplements-work/. As far as hair loss supplements, Viviscal does have some research- I’d like to see better research – and I’m experimenting with biotin right now (not sure if its working or not). Minoxidil has been shown to work and it is available without a prescription. check with your doctor if you have high blood pressure if you try minoxidil.
Louis J. Bianco says
Kendra Wilkinson is a playboy model! Hugh’s ex-gf if she lost 10-15lbs After her pregnancy, it’s because she eats right, works out, and is naturally fit. It’s bullshit, that ab cuts the fancy expensive fish oil plus.. Did anything! Don’t waste your money!! Check out whole mega fish oil. Joe the military special forces swear that high doses of fish oil daily help with weight loss, does their claim hold water?
Joe says
Louis thanks for the heads up on Kendra. I guess I should be watching more stuff than Star Trek reruns 😉 Most of the fish oil / weight loss research Ive seen (which isn’t a lot) has looked at people who ate fish which may or may not be the same as fish oil supplements. How much fish oil do they recommend? More than 3 grams per day may cause excess bleeding and other side effects.
Linda says
You’re right. I just clicked on the OSU website and could not find any research article. If I find a direct URL contact, I’ll get back to you. I had just previously read the recap article on the researchnews.osu.edu/archive/bodycomp.htm
Sorry about that.
Joe says
Linda thanks for pointing out that review to me 🙂
Linda says
Glad I checked your web and found this article. I have been taking 2 tsp. of safflower oil daily based on info I found at bellyfatblues.com/menopause-belly-fat.html which is linked to another web researchnews.osu.edu , about the safflower oil benefits. Perhaps you could check it out. I just started this regime so can not supply a progress report yet, however, I am concerned about your diabetes comments as I am borderline. Thanks.
Joe says
Linda I looked at the OSU website but didnt see the article on safflower. can you give me the exact URL? I think the risk of diabetes with CLA is pretty low because most people get a mixture of CLA types and most also probably wont take the supplement for a very long time. I like to mention this stuff because I know most people don’t and supplements like this are marketed to millions of people who probably wont hear anything about potential worst case scenario side effects.
