V8 Pills Review: Are They Safe? Do They Work?

Update 6/28/20. V8 pills don't have anything to do with V8 vegetable juice. Rather, they are dietary supplements marked to help with male performance enhancement.  While they appear to be popular in some circles, the more important questions do they really work and are they safe? According to some reports, they may not be. In this V8 pill review, you'll learn about the ingredients and the company that makes this dietary supplement.

Who Makes V8 Pills?

The company that registered the website is called Alibaba Cloud Computing (Beijing) Co., Ltd. Alibaba is a China-based company and is essentially the Amazon/eBay of China. The supplement company website is  GreenRoomStore.com.  No specific address for the company can be located although this contact number is provided: 86-1812 648 8183. The “86” is an international telephone code for Mainland China.

For those who don't want to call China, the website also provides this email address: Sales AT GreenRoomStore.com. The company may also be known by this name too: Shenzhen Greenroom Biotechnology Co. Ltd which also appears to be located in China.

When this review was updated, the GreenRoomStore website product page contained over 100 different dietary supplements devoted to male performance enhancement and 15 supplements for female performance.

What Do V8 Supplements Do?

V8 Pills

The name basically tells what the supplement is supposed to do and help: “super energy sex pils for male enhancement” Notice that pills is spelled incorrectly. The pills are blue and look like viagra.

At times the V8 supplement website is difficult to understand. For example, under “Applicable to populations” they list those who are immunocompromised. Are they saying the supplement is safe for those who have immune deficiencies?

While the supplement comes from China, these little blue tablets may be found in gas station convenience stores in the US.

V8 Supplement Ingredients

The ingredients listed on the V8 pills website are as follows:

This description is vague. For example, what is American Indian Wild whip? Also, what is “Alaska hippocampus?” The hippocampus is an organ found in the brain.  Are they saying V8 supplements contain the brain parts of animals? If yes, which animal are they getting the hippocampus from – cows, pigs, bears, etc?

And what is the dosage of each ingredient in the supplement?

Whether or not the name “V8” refers to the supplement containing 8 different ingredients cannot be determined.

V8 Supplement Research

Clinical evidence supporting the ingredients in the supplement could not be located. As such, it's unknown if the ingredients in the supplement really work by boosting physical energy levels, stamina, or a man's ability in the bedroom.

V8 Pills and Blood Sugar

In 2019 it was reported that at least 13 people in Virginia (PDF) needed to go to the hospital because of severe low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) after taking the V8 supplement. Most people admitted to the hospital had blood glucose levels less than 30 mg/dL, with one person experiencing a sugar level of 11 mg/dL. For reference, a normal fasting blood sugar is less than 100 mg/dL. Having a blood sugar level between 11 and 30 is too low and is not healthy.

It was determined the unhealthy drop in blood sugar was due to the presence of a drug called glyburide. Glyburide is a diabetes medication that lowers blood sugar. It's classified as a sulfonylurea diabetes medication. Glyburide was not listed as an ingredient on the V8 website. In the US, prescription medications are not allowed to be used as dietary supplement ingredients.

Symptoms of severe low blood sugar include sweating, a racing heartbeat, irritability, anxiety, shakiness, and altered mental status. Those experiencing symptoms of severe hypoglycemia should seek immediate medical attention.

Back in 2009 there 150 cases of low blood sugar that were traced to a dietary supplement containing the diabetes medicine glyburide and viagra. So, did V8 tablets also contain viagra?

V8 Tablets Contain Viagra

In 2019, a 57-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with low blood sugar problems. He was not a diabetic but did report he was taking viagra. He was not able to fill his viagra prescription because of health insurance problems. So so decided to start taking V8 tablets.  Two days later, he was in the hospital.

China RX

In 2017 the department of health in Australia issued a safety advisory related to a supplement called “V8” which was found to contain sildenafil, the key ingredient in Viagra. In June 2020, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed viagra (sildenafil) was present in this dietary supplement.

By US law dietary supplements are not permitted to contain prescription drugs.

V8 Pills Side Effects

Several cases of really low blood sugar (hypoglycemia ) have been reported. Those with diabetes and prediabetes should avoid this supplement. Even people without diabetes may experience low blood sugar. Those taking weight loss supplements and/or people doing weight-loss diets should also avoid this supplement.

Do V8 Pills Work?

If the supplement contains medications like viagra glyburide, it cannot be recommended.  Dietary supplements that contain prescription medications are illegal in the US. Dietary supplements coming from countries like China are also troubling.
