1 Plexus Joyome Day Serum Research

Clinical studies on Joyome specifically cannot be located. Neither the Plexus website or clinical databases reveal any research on the product itself.

But, this doesn't mean the anti-wrinkle cream doesn't work. Rather, it means we have to look at its ingredients. Let's do that next.

2 Joyome Day Serum Ingredients

From the Joyome label, we see there are 54 ingredients in the Day Serum. Here are all of them in order as they appear on the label:

Water Glycerin Glyceryl stearate SE
Dimethicone Squalane Niacinamide
Isosorbide dicaprylate Magnolia flower water Isopentyldiol
Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate Behenyl alcohol Acetyl Hexapeptide-8
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 Hyaluronic acid Glycosphingolipids
Glycolipids Sodium Hyaluronate Silanetriol
Chicory root oligosaccharides Magnesium carboxymethyl beta-glucan Haematococcus pluvialis extract
Cranberry fruit extract Anthemis nobilis flower oil Jasmine oil
Lavender oil Origanum majorana leaf oil sandalwood oil
Vanilla extract Cananga odorata flower oil Blackberry seed oil
Clover flower extract castor seed oil Panthenol

Silica Polylactic acid Bismuth oxychloride
Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate Citric acid Sodium phytate
3,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid Ethoxydiglycol Butylene glycol
Phenoxyethanol Ethoxydiglycol Ethoxydiglycol

Read from left to right. This will tell you the ingredients in order from most to least. For example, since water is first on the list, it's the most plentiful in the Intensive Day Serum.

Take notice of the ingredients in bold. These are the key ingredients. Why do I say this? Because these ingredients are specially mentioned on the Plexus website. While the Plexus website says there are “11 active ingredients” this is true when you use both the Intensive Day Serum and the Joyome intensive overnight serum together.

This review is on the 6 key ingredients in Joyome Day Serum.

Let's now look at the anti-wrinkle proof on each of the 6 key ingredients in the Day Serum.

Niacinamide

This is another name for the vitamin, niacin (vitamin B3). Studies suggest niacinamide can improve the appearance of skin when applied topically. It shrinks pores, improving skin tightness. For example, In one study by Proctor and Gamble, when 50 women applied a 5% solution of niacinamide to half of their face twice a day for 12 weeks, researchers saw a noticeable improvement in the treated face such as reductions in fine lines and wrinkles and red blotchiness.

Have you heard of the anti-aging supplements Elysium Basis and Niacel?  They are very popular anti-aging supplements based on niacin.  They contain a niacin compound called nicotinamide riboside.

See those reviews for more information on those supplements.

Argireline Peptide

It's also called Argireline. On the ingredients list above, it's called Acetyl Hexapeptide-8. By whatever name you call it by, Argireline is essentially a botox cream. I'm not simplifying it – that is how it's described in the studies. Argireline works essentially the same way as botox, except its 4000 times less potent than botox.

Studies of Argireline have noted it can temporarily improve fine lines and wrinkles. In one investigation, a 10% solution of Argireline applied to the skin, improved wrinkle depth (how far wrinkles penetrate the skin) by 30%. Researchers in China noted an almost 49% improvement in wrinkles after 1 month of use.

Argireline has been a key ingredient in other anti-wrinkle creams too such as:

Argireline can also be purchased by itself too:

Eyeseryl Peptide

In the ingredients section above, this is listed as Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5. It's a product by a company called Lypotec (Lypotec.com), the same company which makes Argireline. Interestingly the owner of Eyeseryl US patent is Beach Body LLC, makers of the famous Shakeology weight loss shake and countless exercise videos.

See the Shakeology review

Eyeseryl is an ingredient designed to reduce puffy eyes. It works as a humectant, which means it holds water. By increasing the hydration of skin, it should plump up the skin, temporarily reducing wrinkles, and puffy eyes. Interestingly though, clinical studies on the effectiveness of eyeseryl cannot be located.

Hyaluronic Acid

While it's found in many places in the body, this stuff is often used in arthritis supplements because it can act as a cushion between bones. Some cosmetic surgery procedures may use hyaluronic acid too. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, so it can lock in water. This is why it's found in many different cosmetics. There is research on this too.

A study by German researchers has found a 0.1% hyaluronic acid cream improved skin elasticity and hydration after 60 days of use.

Researchers in Japan have noted 120 mg per day of an oral hyaluronic acid supplement (called Hyabest) reduced wrinkles more than placebo after 12 weeks of use. The study was funded by the makers of the supplement (Kewpie corporation).

Glycosphingolipids

Most know it better as Ceramide. Ceramide is derived from a Latin meaning “wax.” The plexus website says these compounds “Reduce the appearance of wrinkles.” Ceramides are a group of fatty acid molecules found naturally in cells. They perform a variety of actions ranging from hormone release to helping keep cells intact.

When respect to the skin, ceramides form part of the epidermis and also act as a waterproof layer to prevent fluid loss. In this way, they are also humectants, like hyaluronic acid and eyeseryl peptide described above. The loss of ceramides in the skin can contribute to dry skin, which in turn can lead to wrinkles. Halo Beauty, a popular hair, skin, and nails supplement by YouTube sensation, Tati Westbrook also contains ceramides.

See the Halo Beauty review for more insights.

Clover Flower Extract

Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is a rich source of hormone-like plant nutrients called isoflavones. While the Plexus website says “Red Clover minimizes the appearance of pores by reducing oil accumulation and pore debris.” they don't tell us what extract of red clover they are using. To be fair, I see this a lot when it comes to extracts.

Red clover appears to have a place in skin protection creams. There is evidence red clover may protect the skin from inflammation caused by UV radiation.  Lab animal evidence hints red clover might help reduce skin changes during menopause.

3 Plexus Joyome Key Ingredients

Joyome Day Serum contains a LOT of ingredients (54 to be exact). Of the 6 key ingredients highlighted on the Plexus website and reviewed here, I believe the main active ingredients are:

I've ranked these ingredients in order of what I believe is most important. This order is different than how they are listed on the Joyome ingredients list. I provide this info for those who might want to make their own anti-wrinkle cream. This is my opinion and is based on the research I looked at when I prepared this Joyome review. Take it for what it's worth.

4 Buy Plexus Joyome

Like all Plexus products, Joyome Illuminating Day Serum is not sold in local stores like Costco, Target, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid or Kohles. It can only be purchased through a Plexus Ambassador or via the Plexus World Wide website.

It may be on Amazon too

5 Plexus Joyome Price

To purchase Joyome Illuminating Day Serum, the cost is $80 for a one time purchase. The price is $68 if you opt for a subscription and receive the product on a regular basis.

The cost of the Plexus Intensive Overnight Repair Cream is $85 for a one-time purchase and $72.25 if you decide to receive regular shipments.

6 The 11 Active Ingredients

There are 11 active ingredients if you use both the Day Serum and Overnight Repair Cream. The Day Serum contains 6 of the 11 key ingredients.

7 The Microbiome Balancing Complex

The Plexus website rightly mentions the bacteria on our skin – part of our microbiome – play a role in skin health. The Joyome Day Serum label does not tell us which ingredients make up the Microbiome Balancing Complex. As such, it is hard to discuss this topic. I'd like to know what the ingredients are and how those ingredients “balance” the microbiome.

8 Plexus Joyome Vs. The Competition

Joyome vs. Plexaderm

By now, most people have seen the dramatic TV commercials for Plexaderm and how, within seconds, it improves bags under the eyes. One of the key ingredients in Plexaderm is Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 – which we know better as Argireline. I believe this is the key ingredient in Plexaderm and most other rapid anti-wrinkle/ skin firming creams.

Joyome vs. Halo Beauty

Halo Beauty by Tati Westbrook is a hair skin and nails supplement. While it does have a little bit in common-  ingredients-wise – with Joyome, it's a supplement. Joyome Day Serum (and overnight cream) is applied topically to the skin. As such, they work differently.  Would they work better together? That is unknown at this time.

See the Halo Beauty Review

Joyome vs. Principal Secret

Reclaim, by Victoria Principal, is an anti-wrinkle cream that has been around a long time. Like Joyome Day Serum, it also contains Argireline as one of its key ingredients. As mentioned above, Argireline is a botox cream. It works similarly to botox although it's a weaker version.

It has research showing it can temporarily reduce wrinkles. I believe Argireline is the main active ingredient in both Joyome Illuminating Day Serum and Principal Secret Reclaim.

See the Principal Secret Review

Joyome vs. Hydroxatone

Hydroxatone, another popular anti-wrinkle cream also contains Argireline as a key ingredient. While no studies have compared Hydroxatone to Joyome, my guess is they may work similarly because they contain the argireline compound.

See the Hydroxatone Review

Joyome vs. Allura

Allura Face Firming Lift Cream also contains Argireline. No clinical studies appear to exist which compare Allura to Joyome or any other Argireline-containing face cream.

Joyome vs. Asterwood Naturals

Asterwood Naturals makes a serum that contains Argireline and hyaluronic acid, both of which are also in the Plexus Day Serum.

Here is Asterwood Naturals on Amazon

To be frank, after looking at the various anti-wrinkle and skin firming creams on Amazon, my belief that Argireline is the key ingredient is reaffirmed. A LOT of skin firming creams contain this compound.

Here they all are.

9 How To Use Joyome

The instructions on how to use Joyome are as follows:

1 Wash your face with your favorite skin cleanser

2 Apply three pumps of Illuminating Day Serum gently onto your face and neck. For the eye wrinkles (crows-feet, etc) softly pat the serum onto the skin around the orbital bone.

3 After the serum has been absorbed by the skin, follow up with using a moisturizer, SPF or foundation.

That's it.

10 Is Joyome Better With The Overnight Repair Cream?

Joyome Illuminating Day Serum is often paired with Joyome Intensive Overnight Repair Cream. The ingredients in both anti-wrinkle creams are different. One major difference is the overnight cream does not contain Argireline. While clinical studies proving they work better together cannot be located, it's possible they might. Let's see what future research says.

11 Does Joyome Overnight Repair Contain Argireline?

No. The Intensive Overnight Repair Cream is a different product. It does not contain Argireline. The Overnight Repair cream contains retinoid ester which is a form of vitamin A. Numerous studies have found vitamin A creams can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

12 Can Men Use Joyome?

Yes. Joyome can be used by both men and women. While the majority of studies of argerline have involved women, I see no reason why the effects would not be similar in men who use this product.

13 How Long Do The Effects Last?

Good question. I think the effects of the Day Serum would vary by how many wrinkles someone had and how deep those wrinkles were. My guess is the anti-wrinkle effect will last several hours, maybe all day. It's possible regular use may last even longer. The effects on wrinkles should be noticeable after about 1 month of regular use.

Some low quality, click-bate websites may say Argireline is better than Botox but this is not true. A single Botox treatment will last many months. A single treatment of Argireline cream won't do this. While Argireline and Botox work similar, Argireline is a much weaker version. On the plus side, because its a weaker version, Argireline would not be expected to have the same side effects as Botox.

If you have tried Joyome, leave a comment below and let me know how long it lasted for you.

14. Joyome Beauty From Within Combo

Some people may opt for the Beauty From Within Combo where Joyome is purchased alongside other Plexus products such as Plexus X Factor and Plexus Slim. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this and I'm sure the company will discount the combo, I don't believe these other products add to the wrinkle-reducing effects of Joyome. If you are on a budget and struggling to decide which is best, my advice is to stick with on the Joyome day serum only.

15. Plexus Joyome Before And After

I've seen several very impressive Joyome before and after pictures on Instagram. Some of the before and after images I've looked have shown significant differences after 1-3 weeks of use.  The changes include visible differences in wrinkles, blemishes, and even skin tightening. I believe a lot of this is due to argerline.

BTW, say hi if you're on Instagram – I'm SupplementClairty  🙂

16 Plexus Joyome Side Effects

Joyome is expected to be very safe in the majority of men and women who use it. If you are new to Joyome, apply to a small area of skin at first to see what happens. Always remember to use sunscreen too as this is the best defense against wrinkles starting.

20 Does Joyome Work?

For an anti-wrinkle cream, the key ingredients in Plexus Joyome Day Serum make sense. So it's possible women and men may notice a difference in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. From the pictures I've seen, people may see a difference in as little as 1-4 weeks. I believe much of the wrinkle-reducing effects because of argireline, which is a weak acting botox cream, clinically shown to improve the appearance of wrinkles.
