What Is 3 Ballerina Tea?
It's a diet tea that has no caffeine and is marketed to both men and women who want to shed a few pounds.
Why Do They Call It 3 Ballerina Tea?
Since ballerinas are often thin/skinny, I believe this is a reference the tea is for weight loss. As for where the “3” comes into play, I cannot say.
Other names which may also refer to this tea include:
- 3 Queen Ladies
- 3 Star Brand
- Three Daughter
- Three Ballerina Tea
- 3 Ballerina Tea Ingredients
3 Ballerina Ingredients
The tea contains only one ingredient: senna (cassia Angustifolia).
There are also low amounts of vitamins and minerals. The Supplement Facts label for the product looks weird. Vitamins A, C, and riboflavin are each listed twice and appear to have different percentages of the daily value.
For example, as can be seen in the picture, vitamin C is said to contain both less than 2% daily value and 2.3% daily value. Which is it? Also, the vitamin, niacin, is misspelled. On the label, it's spelled “niacin.”
I don't like seeing typos on Supplement Facts labels.
What Is Senna?
Senna is a nonprescription laxative. It's an FDA approved as a stimulant laxative. The word stimulant does not mean it contains stimulants like caffeine. Rather it means the product stimulates us to poop. Senna is in several other over-the-counter laxatives/ cleans supplements such as Senokot.
How does 3 Ballerina Tea work? The senna plant contains compounds called sennosides which irritate (stimulate) the large intestine, causing a laxative effect. Other laxative products actually tell list how much sennosides they have, which is proof that sennosides are the active ingredients in senna.
Senna can be extracted from either the fruit of the plant or leaves. The 3 Ballerina's Tea label does not say which part of the plant the senna comes from.
Senna And Weight Loss
While senna is not a weight loss supplement, it's clear from reading online reviews that some are using it for this purpose. But, does senna really promote weight loss? Yes and no.
It depends on how you define weight.
To understand how senna works, remember we have two different intestines:
- The small intestine
- The large intestine
The small intestine is where we absorb nutrients and calories.
The large intestine stores the stuff (poop) that is leftover and undigested. There is also bacteria in the large intestine too. That's often what we call the microbiome.
Senna only works in the large intestine. Senna does not work in the small intestine. In other words, the only weight we lose is poop, water, bacteria, and electrolytes.
Senna does not stop us from absorbing calories. Because of this, senna is not effective for real, long term weight loss.
3 Ballerina Tea Flavors
The tea comes in the following 4 flavors:
- Lemon
- Orange
- Ginseng
- Cinnamon
3 Ballerina Tea Price
The tea is pretty inexpensive. When this review was created, I saw it cost between $3 and $12 per box.
Regular Strength vs. Extra Strength
There appear to be 2 different versions of 3 Ballerina Tea:
- Regular Strength
- Extra Strength
From boxes of the tea I saw online, the extra strength version has 3 grams of senna (cassia Angustifolia). As for the regular strength, I cannot tell. The regular strength boxes of tea I saw did not indicate the amount of senna.
If anyone knows how much senna regular strength has, let me know.

How Does 3 Ballerina Tea Work?
The tea is a laxative. Some people use it as a cleanse, however, cleanse is another name for a laxative. The senna in the tea irritates the large intestine, causing it to expel fecal matter and water. The tea does not burn fat or promotes people to burn more calories.
Does It Have Caffeine?
The packaging clearly states there is no caffeine in the product.
How Does It Taste?
The taste will vary from person to person. When I scanned reviews on Amazon, I saw some people saying the taste was OK and similar to regular tea while others stated it tasted awful and smelled bad too.
Who Makes 3 Ballerina Tea?
The company is called the Truong Giang Corp. Two other names for the company name are:
- TG Corp
- 3 Ballerina Company
The company website is TGcorp.us. The company's phone number is (626) 579-7822.
The Truong Giang Corp is located at 9630 Alpaca St South El Monte, CA91733. If you perform an online search for the address, you can see what the building looks like.
Where to Buy 3 Ballerina Tea
The tea can be purchased directly from the Truong Giang Corp. It is also available on Amazon, as well as eBay. It can also be found at Walmart.com but it may/may not be sold in Walmart stores. This tea does not appear to be sold at Target, Walgreens, Costco, BJs, CVS or RiteAid, Vitamin Shoppe, or GNC.
Is It Made In America?
Boxes state the tea is “made in USA” but I can't find a location where the tea is manufactured.
3 Ballerina Tea vs. 3 Queens Ladies Tea
3 Queens Ladies is another diet tea mentioned on the product's website. Here is how 3 Queens Ladies compares to 3 Ballerina Tea:
3 Ballerinas Tea | 3 Queens Ladies Tea |
---|---|
Cassia Angustifolia (Senna) | Malva verticillata (Chinese Mallow) |
Cassia Angustifolia (Senna) |
As can be seen, the only difference between these weight loss teas is the addition of malva verticillata, also known as Chinese mallow, cluster mallow or just mallow.
What Is Malva Verticillata?
It's a vegetable /herbal ingredient that has both laxative and diuretic effects. In other words, it makes us poop and pee more. In theory, 3 Queens Ladies Tea might be more powerful than 3 Ballerina's Tea because it has two ingredients with similar effects.
The Class Action Lawsuit
As reported on the website, TopClassActions.com, The Truong Giang Corp was involved in a class-action lawsuit over misleading claims regarding weight loss. Three Ballerina Tea was one of the products mentioned.
3 Ballerina Tea vs. Fit Tea
Fit Tea is another popular supplement that's touted to “promote fat burning and weight loss” and clean your digestive system. how does 3 Ballerina compare to Fit Tea?
3 Ballerina Tea | Fit Tea |
---|---|
Senna | Rooibos |
Green tea | |
Ginger | |
Oolong | |
Pomegranate | |
Stevia | |
Guarana | |
Citric acid | |
Sea salt | |
Lemon juice | |
Honey | |
Matcha green tea | |
Garcinia cambogia extract |
But more ingredients do not make Fit Tea better. Fit tea has several caffeine-containing ingredients. It also contains Garcinia Cambogia, which, while popular, may have minimal effects on weight loss. Garcinia is also controversial because of its association with liver failure.
Is It Organic?
Probably not since this is not mentioned on the company website or package.
Is 3 Ballerina Tea Kosher?
The company website does not say if it's kosher or not. As such, it's probably safe to assume it isn't.
Does It Harm the Microbiome?
The microbiome or gut flora refers to all the bacteria that live our digestive system – including our large intestine. The health of the microbiome is at the heart of why people take probiotic supplements.
Since there are bacteria in our large intestine and senna makes us go to the bathroom more often, what does something like 3 Ballerina Tea
While this is good news, what about the repeated use of laxatives or products containing them? For example, what would the gut microbiome look like after 3 months of using a laxative? The effect of cleaning teas on our microbiome health needs further study.
How Do you Make It?
3 Ballerina Tea is brewed the same way as any other tea. Add 1 teabag to a cup of hot water, steep for a few minutes a drink. Add milk, and sweetener, if you like. It can be consumed both hot and cold. When using this tea for the first time, it's best to begin by drinking only 1 cup per day to see how you respond to its effects.
Is There A Best Time To Drink It?
While there is no “best” time of day, because of its laxative/cleansing effects, it's wise to not drink the tea prior to traveling, just in case. Drinking tea, later in the day when you are home and don't have anywhere to travel is probably a good idea.
3 Ballerina Tea Side Effects
While senna is considered safe for short-term use, it is not recommended to be taken long-term. What's long-term mean? More than a week. Long-term use of laxatives may make some people dependent on their use. In other words, the body might get used to the extra help, making it more difficult to defecate when not using laxatives.
3 Ballerina Tea contains the following warning: “do not use if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain because senna may worsen these conditions and be harmful to your health.”
Some more specific things to consider before using 3 Ballerina tea and/or other senna-containing products include the following. This list is not complete:
Speak to your doctor first if you have any medical condition including but not limited to:
- Heart disease
- Blood pressure issues (high or low)
- Crohn's disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
- Kidney problems
- If you are dehydrated
- Have very dry skin
- Problems with electrolytes or low potassium
In addition, do not use if you are allergic to senna, are pregnant or breastfeeding, and stop using 3 Ballerina Tea at least 2 weeks before having surgery.
One of the functions of the skin is to protect us from environmental toxins which might harm us. Lab animal research suggests frequent use of senna may impair the ability of the skin to do this. That doesn't mean 3 Ballerina will do this but it may be worth discussing with your doctor/pharmacist/dietitian.
At least one report links senna to liver failure. The person in this report was taking a lot of senna- much more than is in 3 Ballerina tea and was doing so for over 3 years.
Online reviews reveal some people stating the product produced bloating and stomach cramping.
Does 3 Ballerina Tea Really Work?
If you drink 3 Ballerina Tea to lose weight, you'll probably see the bathroom scale decreasing. But that's not because you are burning fat. It's because of the water, poop, and bacteria you are losing. I understand the psychology of the scale, where any reduction in body weight is seen as a good thing. But, the weight you lose with this diet tea will likely soon return as you start to eat and drink liquids again. So, does it work? Well yeah, probably- but not in the way you think.
