Supplement Clarity

Organifi Green Juice: Read This First. 31 Things You Need To Know

Results you can see. Now you can get all your healthy superfoods in one glass. So says the label of Organifi Green Juice. Organifi Green Juice is said to be a gently dried superfood powder that's infused with coconut water crystals to improve absorption. Interesting. But does it really work? In this review, I'll look at the claims, and evidence for the ingredients. Let's see if this Green Juice is worth the money. Also, see the Organifi company review.

1. What Is Organifi Green Juice?

It's a green juice supplement made by a company called Organifi. Because of the growing popularity of green vegetables, supplement companies are coming out with products that are said to provide many of the benefits of veggies without actually eating them. Greens are not the only ingredients in Organifi Green Juice. See below for a full nutrient breakdown.

2. Organifi Green Juice Claims

On the canister, I saw at Vitamin Shoppe, the Organifi Juice is touted to provide the following benefits:

  1. Hydrates and Revitalizes
  2. Naturally Balances Hormones
  3. Alkalizes to Help With Occasional Stress
  4. Boosts Immune Function
  5. Supports Mental Clarity

It should be remembered however that there does not appear to be any specific evidence for any of these.

In small print just above the benefits, it reads “All of the handpicked ingredients in our proprietary formula help promote these benefits.”

The word promote is supplement-industry talk for “results will vary.”

The results seen in any of these benefits will vary from person to person. Some people may see a lot of benefits, while others may not notice any.

3. How Does Organifi Green Juice Work?

From the name “green,” you get the idea that it's supposed to work by providing the benefits of green vegetables. Because the supplement lacks fiber, its not a substitute for eating greens. There is also more in Organifi Greens than greens. For example, it also contains other things like, spirulina and red beets. See below for a full breakdown. See the research section below for more insights.

4. Organifi Green Juice Research

Clinical research specifically on Organifi Green Juice benefits cannot be located. Neither OrganifiShop.com or clinical databases reveal any studies of this specific product.

To be fair, that's common for many supplements.  So, to really understand this supplement, it will be necessary to look at its ingredients.

Let's do that now.

5. Organifi Green Juice Nutrition Facts

Each canister has 30 servings. A scoop (9 grams) of Organifi Green Juice has the following nutrition information:

Amount Per ServingPercent Daily Value
Calories25
Total Carbs4 g1%DV
Dietary Fiber4 g14% DV
Sugars1 g
Protein2 g4%DV
Calcium31 mg3% DV
Iron2 mg11% DV
Sodium15 mg1% DV

All these values are based on eating 2000 calories per day (most people eat about this much). One thing is the supplement label is using the old version of Supplement Facts. We know this because it doesn't contain information on added sugars, vitamin D, or potassium. I'm sure this will eventually be corrected.

It would be nice to know how much potassium is in Green Juice. Potassium helps our blood vessels and blood pressure stay healthy. Green vegetables are a good source of this valuable mineral that most Americans do not get enough of.

6. Organifi Green Juice Ingredients

There are a lot of ingredients in Green Juice by Organifi. Let's list them all and then go into more depth on each.

On the Organifi label, the ingredients are divided into two sections:

  1. Alkaline Greens Proprietary Blend (5.1 grams total per scoop)
  2. Super Food Proprietary Blend (1.45 grams total per scoop)

Alkaline Greens Proprietary Blend (5.1g)

Each scoop provides 5.1 grams of the following 6 ingredients.

  1. Organic wheatgrass
  2. Organic wheat grass juice powder
  3. Organic horseradish tree (leaf) (Moringa Oleifera)
  4. Organic spirulina (whole plant) (Arthrospira platensis)
  5. Organic chlorella (whole plant) (Chlorophyta vulgaris)
  6. Organic matcha green tea (leaf) (Camellia sinensis)

The ingredients are listed in the order they appear on the label. Ingredients at the top make up most of the blend, while those at the bottom make up the least. For example, since wheatgrass is the first ingredient, it's the most plentiful, while matcha green tea makes up the least.

Super Food Proprietary Blend (1.45 g)

Each scoop provides 1.45 grams of the following 4 ingredients:

  1. Organic coconut water (fruit) powder
  2. Organic ashwagandha (root extract) (Withania somnifera) (KSM 66)
  3. Organic red beet (root)
  4. Organic turmeric (root) (Curcuma longa)

Ingredients are listed in the order they appear on the label. Those at the top make up most of the blend, while those at the bottom make up the least. For example, this blend is mostly coconut water powder, and it has the least turmeric.

Next, let's briefly review the different ingredients.

Organic Wheat Grass

The Organifi website states wheatgrass is a source of vitamins, minerals, and 17 amino acids. This is all fine except, the Green Juice isn't providing much of any of these. Remember, each scoop provides only 5.1 grams total, of which wheat grass makes up most of this amount.

One scoop doesn't provide a lot of amino acids or other nutrients.  The same thing goes for wheatgrass juice powder, too. Wheatgrass is not too expensive if you want to add it to your smoothies.

Here's wheatgrass on Amazon

Moringa Oleifera

On the label, moringa is also called horseradish tree. Another name for it is the drumstick tree. Moringa has a reputation of being a nutrient-dense food. Indeed, in some parts of the world, it may be used to help under-nourished people.

The Organifi website states moringa helps energy levels. This may be due to rumors it helps boost thyroid hormone. There is some lab animal research suggesting it may raise levels of T3 and T4, the thyroid hormones. Because moringa has iron, it may help energy in those with anemia, too.

See the moringa review for much more of its uses and the evidence.

Spirulina

While spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) is often called blue-green algae, it's really a type of bacteria (cyanobacteria). The Organifi website states spirulina is a “natural blood-sugar management plant.”

At least one human study has noted 2 grams of spirulina per day, taken for 2 months, resulted in significant reductions in blood sugar, A1c, triglycerides and total cholesterol. This was a small study of 15 people with type II diabetes.  Some lab animal studies suggest this may occur, too.

While the company doesn't tell us how much spirulina has, Organifi Green Juice might have 2 grams since it's right in the middle of the proprietary blend.

One problem for growers of spirulina is it can sometimes be contaminated with heavy metals like mercury and lead are known to cause cancer.  This may be why, the product has a Prop 65 warning. Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a California law that some supplements carry because they are higher in some compounds than the state of California permits. Prop 65 is more stringent than even US federal limits.

Here's a list of all the compounds listed under Prop 65.

Spirulina is popular but it can also be expensive. When it comes to blood sugar control, I think there are better choices out there such as walking or even maybe apple cider vinegar.

See the Beach Body Ultimate Power Greens Review

Chlorella

Chlorella is a type of green algae. The Organifi company website states chlorella is “super high in protein and great for giving you healthier, smoother, stronger skin.” But, in the amounts provided in a scoop of Green Juice, it doesn't have a lot of protein.

Even the label for Green Juice tells us it only has 2 grams of protein.

But what about skin? There is some lab animal research suggesting chlorella may help reduce skin inflammation. Test tube evidence suggests it may also help protect against UV damage too. Here are other ways to decrease skin inflammation

See the Beach Body Power Greens review for more on Chlorella.

Matcha Green Tea

This is green tea (camellia sinensis) which has been ground into a fine powder. So it's the same thing as regular green tea. Green tea has a LOT of antioxidant powder. The Organifi website calls attention to one of the compounds in green tea – EGCG.

EGCG is popular in supplements, but I believe the whole green tea plant is more powerful than just one of its compounds. As such, I'm glad Organifi uses the whole leaf instead of concentrating on EGCG. Green tea supplements (but not the tea) are controversial because of their connection to liver damage.

Kudos to Organifi for using the plant and not EGCG.

Regardless, green tea is pretty inexpensive. I've seen 200 bags of organic green tea (not matcha) for $4 at the supermarket. I often cut open the teabags and toss 1 or 2 into my smoothies. Matcha green tea is the last ingredient in the Alkaline Greens blend so there isn't much of it present.

See the Mega T Green Tea review

Coconut Water (fruit) Powder

This is freeze-dried coconut powder. The website for Organifi says coconut water is said to help assist in the transportation of other nutrients into the body. No evidence is provided that it does this, however.  Some evidence suggests drinking coconut water may reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension.

Coconut water is sometimes marketed to athletes and some evidence suggests it may help, although at least one small study (12 people) noted no differences in exercise performance between bottled water and coconut water.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), also called Indian ginseng, is an Auverdeic medical herb that has been around for thousands of years. Ashwagandha is an example of an adaptogen. This is a term used to describe a nutrient that changes (adapts) how it works according to what our stress level is.

So, is there any evidence for this?

In one study, researchers in India noted that 600 mg of ashwagandha helped reduce stress levels after two months.  How much is in Organifi Green Juice? They don't tell us but since it's the 2nd ingredient listed in the Super Food blend, it's possible it may contain this much.  Like all herbs, ashwagandha likely has multiple effects.

Organifi Green Juice uses a version of ashwagandha called KSM-66, which comes from the roots of the ashwagandha plant. KSM-66 is the product of a company called Ixoreal Biomed, and its parent company, Shri Kartikeya Pharma, Ltd., which is in India.

Various studies of KSM-66 confuted in India have noted it might:

As stated above, while the amount of KSM-66 ashwagandha in Organifi Green Juice is not specifically mentioned, it's possible it has 600 mg.

See the Protandim review for more on Ashwagandha. See the side effects section.

Red Beets

Beets -and beetroot juice – are very popular because of all the attention they have gotten from the scientific community regarding their ability to help people exercise better.  The power of beets seems linked to their nitrate content. Nitrates help the body make nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide opens up the blood vessels, allowing more oxygen and nutrients to get to the muscles while at the same time helping the body get rid of lactic acid and other metabolites that might reduce exercise performance.

It's interesting  – and odd – the Organifi website didn't mention this.

While beets often get all the attention, it turns out they have fewer nitrates than green vegetables. So why do supplement companies use beets over, say, spinach? My guess is that most people have heard about the power of beets – and fewer have heard how green vegetables are better.

See the SuperBeets Review

Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is great for many reasons. I even sprinkle it on my oatmeal and add it to smoothies. I wish there was more turmeric in the Green Juice. Turmeric is listed last so it makes up the least of the Super Food blend. That's too bad because of all the good it does.

Turmeric is not only anti-inflammatory as the Organifi website states, it also helps raise nitric oxide too. So, in theory, it should work well with the beets that were mentioned above. In test tube studies, it seems to have anti-cancer properties, too.

The anti-inflammatory effects of turmeric may be linked to one of its ingredients called salicylic acid, which is a metabolite of aspirin. I could go on and on about turmeric.

I think most people should use this spice but not in the tiny amounts found in Organifi Green Juice. While I'm glad Organifi is using turmeric and not just its a popular compound, curcumin, you can go to any supermarket and buy this turmeric. It's inexpensive.

Here's turmeric on Amazon

7. Organifi Green Juice Key Ingredients

Organifi Green Juice has a lot of ingredients. But which are the most important? Someone looking to save money might ask this question. If you ask me, the key ingredients for health in Organifi Green Juice are:

I feel these 2 ingredients are what most people should be adding to their diet. And I don't mean take a supplement either. You could drink green tea or – as I like to do – open a tea bag and toss the contents into a smoothie.

As for turmeric, you can get this spice at any supermarket.

Can I say conclusively that these 2 ingredients provide the same effects as drinking Organifi Green Juice? No. But, I can say there is enough evidence for both green tea and turmeric to make me recommend them to most people.

8. Does Organifi Alkalize The Body?

Notice one of the blends in the Green Juice is called the “Alkaline Greens Proprietary Blend.”  This gives the impression that these ingredients alter the acid/base balance (pH) of the body and shift it toward being more alkaline.

Does it?

Different parts of the body have different pH levels, and while I would not rule out some temporary change that may occur, I don't think it would last long. Also, the pH of the blood is always slightly alkaline.

Remember that alkaline foods tend to be vegetables. As such, I've always thought the benefits of being more alkaline were related to eating better foods rather than the food's ability to alter the acidity/alkalinity of the body. That's my 2 cents, and you can take it for what it is.

Clinical evidence linking Organifi Green Juice to changes in alkalinity in humans cannot be located.

See the It Works Greens review for more on this topic.

9. Who Makes Organifi?

While you'd think the company would be called “Organifi” it's actually called Fit Life LLC.  Fit Life LLC is a company of Drew Canole who you may have seen on his FitLife.tv YouTube channel.  Whether or not Fit Life LLC is the actual/physical company behind making Green Juice or other Organifi supplements, I cannot say.

That's because, as stated on the OrganifiShop.com website, there appears to be a relationship with another company called Natural Health Sherpa also known as Rockwell Nutrition. Relationships with other companies is common in the supplement business.

I wrote a review of this company for those who want to see more.

See the Organifi Company Review

10. How Does Organifi Green Juice Taste?

I didn't taste this Organifi supplement but the website says it contains organic lemon /orange / mint flavors. My guess it has an orange /lemon minty taste.  When I checked online reviews, I saw people saying it tasted great and others saying it didn't. This goes to the fact that taste is individual. The only way to know if you like it is to try it for yourself.

11. Why Does It Have A Prop 65 Warning?

As mentioned above, Prop 65 is a law in California. Supplements that test high for heavy metals, pesticides etc. (natural stuff or pollutants) known to cause cancer need to mention Prop 65 on their labels if they are sold in the state of California.

The  Proposition 65 regulation is more restrictive than US Federal guidelines. In other words, even things the US government would not classify as “high” would be listed as high under California law. To remove this label, Organifi would have to do clinical testing to prove the levels are safe in humans. Testing like this costs money. Most green drinks I see don't do testing like this. This is a reason I'm not a fan of green juice superfoods in general.

Organifi does not tell us what it's high in that triggered the mentioning of Prop 65 on its label.

Here's all the stuff regulated by prop 65

12. Is It Really Organic?

Yes. Organifi Green Juice is certified organic by EcoCert (EcoCert.com).

13. Organifi Green Juice Calories

Each scoop only has 25 calories. That's not much. It also only has 1 g of sugar.

14. What Are The Organifi Sweeteners?

In addition to the lemon, orange and mint flavors, Green Juice also has monk fruit (Luo han gu0).

15. Organifi Green Juice And Weight Loss

There is no good evidence that Organifi Green Juice (or Red Juice) would cause people to lose weight.  It's highly doubtful weight loss would occur if someone only drank 1 or 2 glasses a day – unless they also reduced their calorie intake.

See the What Weight Loss Supplements Work review .

16. Is Organifi Green Juice GMO?

No. The website states it's Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Soy Free and Vegan.

17. Is Organifi Green Juice All Natural?

The label states Organifi Green Juice has no artificial ingredients. The label also states it has no fillers and no additives.

18. How Many Servings Per Can?

Each can of Green Juice has 30 servings so it should last a month.

19. Where Can I Buy Organifi Juice?

Organifi supplements were not sold at GNC, Walmart, Cosco, Sams Club, Target, RiteAid, or Wallgreens. The Green Juice as and other Organifi supplements like their protein powder, Organifi Gold, etc., can be found directly at OrganifiShop.com as well as Vitamin Shoppe.

They can also be found online as well.

Here it is on Amazon

20. What's The Price Of Organifi Green Juice?

This stuff is expensive. When I checked OrganifiShop.com, a can of Green Juice was selling for $69.95. I also saw it at Vitamin Shoppe for about $60. But how expensive is it? To keep the math easy, let's say it's $60/can. Each can has 30 servings. Doing the math, this comes to $2/ scoop.  At that price, in a year you'd pay  $720.

So, for $2 a scoop, you get 9 grams of ingredients. That's it. That's a tiny amount. Remember an ounce is 28 grams. You are not even getting an ounce!

I know some will say But, it's organic. You could buy the organic foods themselves, toss them in a blender and still pay less than $60 a month.

21. How To Make Your Own Green Juice

I understand tossing a scoop of powder in a blender or shaker bottle is easy. For those that want this convenience, great. I get that. For those on a budget, it's easier to blend foods together yourself and save money. But which ingredients to use? Try this simple recipe tomorrow:

I make this or something like, it almost every day. It takes about 5 minutes to make and tastes pretty good. Will it look totally green? Probably not because of the turmeric but that's OK.

You don't need to add protein powder but I like to and it helps it taste better. Everything tastes better when it's chocolate.

So you may be wondering why black pepper? Black pepper improves turmeric absorption. Trust me, you probably won't even taste the pepper.

Try this and let me know what you think.

22. Organifi vs. The Competition

Now let's take a look at how Organifi Juice stacks up against alternative green supplements.

Organifi Red Juice vs. Organifi Green Juice

Organifi Red Juice is a different supplement than the Green Juice being reviewed here. The focus of the marketing seems to be different also. With the Red Juice, it seems they are marketing to people interested in weight loss and exercise. I say this because the label lists 2 different proprietary formulas called:

They also are targeting people who want to stay young (who don't!) by calling Red Juice “Nature’s Youth Drink!  Increase Fat Loss & STOP Aging Skin”  I'm sorry, but there is no proof the ingredients in Red Juice will stop sagging skin.

I'm surprised Organifi is saying Red Juice will “STOP sagging skin” because that runs the risk of  getting the attention of the FDA. Supplement companies are not allowed to make specific medical claims like this.

While the goal here is not to go into depth on Organifi Red Juice, I'll say it has ingredients I call questionable like acai berry and Siberian ginseng. See the acai berry review.

Like Green Juice, Organifi Red Juice is expensive too. If you like it, great. I'm glad. Do Red Juice and Green Juice work better together? This is hard to say and would take clinical studies to know for sure.

Organifi Green Juice vs. Beach Body Power Greens

Beach Body makes a popular green product called Ultimate Power Greens. Beach Body Power Greens contains different ingredients than Organifi but beyond that, there seem to be no clinical studies that compare the effectiveness of Organifi supplements to Beach Body supplements. I'll update this section as I become of any such research.

See the Beach Body Power Greens Review

Organifi vs. It Works Greens

It Works is a very popular supplement company with multiple products. They also have a greens supplement that, like Organifi, makes claims of adjusting the alkalinity of the body. It Works Greens has some ingredients in common with Organifi but there are also very different ingredients too. No clinical studies to date have pitted them against each other. So I cannot comment on which might be best.

See the It Works Greens review

Organifi Green Juice vs. Texas Super Food

I often hear ads for Texas Superfood on the radio. Like Organifi, Texas Superfood has a variety of vegetables and it also has fruits as well as enzymes and probiotics too. Texas SuperFood has more ingredients than most health drinks I've seen.

While there is some overlap between their respective ingredients, I'm not aware of any clinical evidence on either product alone let alone them being compared to each other.
See the Texas Super Food Review

Green Juice vs. Patriot Power Greens

Patriot Power Greens is another popular green supplement. No comparative studies can be located that indicate which might be better.

See the Patriot Power Greens review

Organifi vs. NutraBullet Super Food Energy Boost

Yes, the makers of the popular NutraBullet blender are in the supplement business too. And they have a superfood drink as well. The Nutrabullet superfood supplement has very little in common with Organifi Green Juice but in case you saw this stuff at Bed Bath and Beyond like I did, here's the Nutrabullet Superfood Energy review for more insights.

Organifi. Vs Green Vibrance

Green Vibrance is a very popular green drink boasting 25 billion probiotics (at the date of manufacture) derived from 12 different strains of bacteria. Like all green drinks, there is going to be some overlap between some of the ingredients. In some cases, Organifi may have some things Green Vibrance doesn't have and vice versa. One thing I can say is that while Organifi is all organic, not all the ingredients in Green Vibrance are. That may or may not matter to people. Green Vibrance is priced similarly to Organifi Green Juice.

Here's Green Vibrance on Amazon

Organifi Green Juice. vs Athletic Greens

When it comes to green supplements, Athletic Greens is the most popular of all. In fact, I would not be surprised that they were the inspiration for all the other companies that make green drink supplements today.

Both Organifi and Athletic Greens contain a truckload of ingredients – more than I could compare in this review. But, more ingredients do not mean something is better. Like most supplements, there are no clinical studies that compare Athletic Greens to Organifi Green Juice.

Athletic Greens is even more expensive than Organifi so I understand why someone might try Organifi to save some money. There is a little overlap in ingredients between both supplements too.

I know people who love Athletic Greens but at the end of the day, it comes down to price. Nobody can tell you which is better until somebody pumps money into a head-to-head clinical trial of both.

23. Organifi Green Juice Side Effects

In healthy people, Organifi Green Juice is safe. What follows is a list of things to consider for those who are not healthy. This list is not complete:

  1. Pregnant women should speak to their pharmacist /doctor first.  Both ashwagandha and spirulina may not be safe in pregnant women. The same care should be taken by women who are breastfeeding.
  2. Stop taking the Green Juice at least 2 weeks before having surgery. Some of the ingredients may act as blood thinners.
  3. Speak to your pharmacist if you take blood thinner medications.
  4. Speak to your doctor/pharmacist if you take any prescription medications.
  5. Don't take it if you are under 18. Kids are not miniature adults. Because of their small body sizes, things that may not be a problem for adults might be for kids. If you are going to give Organifi Juice to kids, speak to your pharmacist, doctor or dietitian first. that is the safest course of action.

Organifi green drink does not contain mushrooms but the red juice powder does. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the red juice supplement, don't use it.

If you had side effects from Organifi Green Juice, leave a comment below to help others.

24. Is it Guaranteed?

Yes, Organifi Green Juice comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. As was pointed out in the Organifi company review, the 30 days starts when you order the supplement and the company must receive the empty/unused portion before the 30 days are up.

When buying from the company website, you may also be enrolled in an auto-ship program where you'll get deliveries of Green Juice every 1-2 months. To opt out of autoship, it's recommended to call the company.

See the Organifi Company Review for more information.

25. Has The FDA Recalled Organifi Green Juice?

At the time this review was created, there were no recalls by the FDA on Organifi supplements. Likewise, no lawsuits were known either.

26. Is Organifi Sold Outside The US?

Yes. The supplement is sold internationally to a wide range of countries like Canada, South Africa, Afghanistan, Singapore, China and many others.

27. Is Organifi Green Juice A Meal Replacement?

No. Meal replacement shakes contain more calories. Meal replacement drinks are meant to replace higher calorie foods you'd ordinarily eat. While Organifi Green Juice does have fewer calories, it does not have enough calories to sustain someone trying to lose weight. Don't use it as a meal replacement.

28. Can It Be Used During A Juice Fast?

In theory, you could use Organifi during a juice fast, but if you fast. Just remember that will get very expensive fast. Remember, this stuff is not cheap. Also, I'd expect someone to start getting headaches if they only drink this for a protracted period of time. That's because Organify greens do not have much sugar. The brain needs sugar. When it doesn't get enough, we might get headaches.

29. Is Organifi Green Juice Pasteurized?

No. the company uses raw foods in this product.

30. Organifi Pro/Con

Here is a quick rundown of what I liked and didn't like about Organifi juice. These are my opinions. Take them for what they are.

What I likedWhat I didn't like
You can speak to a human if neededVery expensive
Sold online and in storesNo clinical research on supplement itself
Non GMOContains trendy ingredients
Convenient to take Prop 65 Warning
Ships internationally

31. Does Organifi Green Juice Work?

Organifi Green Juice is another in a long line of green drinks which promise to improve health. If we leave out the lack of research on the product itself, I'm pretty sure, something at the cellular level will happen when you drink it. But what that something is I can't say. Some people may notice some effects while others might not. I think the same thing for all quality-made green drinks.

Like all processed supplements, Organifi lacks fiber and that's a problem since most Americans don't get enough as it is. Organifi Green Juice is not a substitute for green foods but if you want to use it as an extra, to your diet, that's fine. If it gets people to eat more greens, then that's even better. Because it's expensive, for those who want to add a green drink to their daily routine, it might be worth shopping around to see which one you like best.
