Beauty Fit BeautyWhey Protein Review: Everything You Need To Know

“BeautyWhey is the better whey!”  That's a catchy phrase for BeautyFit BeautyWhey Gourmet Protein Powder. Beauty Fit Whey is something I've seen at Bed Bath and Beyond. While the name “BeautyWhey” stood out to me, it wasn't until one of my Instagram buddies (AmyPowell_Figure) asked me about it that I became curious. Does  BeautyWhey protein really improve a woman's looks? Is it the best protein powder for a woman? These are some of the questions, I'll address in this Beauty Fit Whey review. Let's see what we can discover. Also, see the Halo Beauty review.

Beauty Whey Benefits

From BeautyFit.com the benefits are said to be:

While I don't know if I'd call all of these “benefits,” the final point listed  – building muscle and helping its recovery from exercise -is what is probably of most interest to women. This is likely due to it containing whey and casein protein as well as creatine monohydrate. I'll cover each of these below.

Beauty Fit Whey Protein Nutrition Facts

Each scoop (33grams) of BeautyWhey Gourmet protein powder has the following nutrition information:

Amount Per Serving % DV
Calories 150
Calories from fat 8g 12%DV
Saturated fat 1g 5% DV
Sodium 125 mg 5% DV
Potassium 270mg 8% DV
Total carbohydrate 7g 2% DV
Dietary fiber 1g 4% DV
Sugars 4g
Protein 15g
Calcium 242 mg 25% DV

In the table above, “% DV” = percent daily value. For example, each scoop provides 25% of the daily value (allowance) of calcium.  This is assuming someone eats 2000 calories per day. Most eat around this much.

When looking at Daily Values remember these 2 facts

From this we can see Beauty Whey is low in saturated fat, sodium, total carbohydrates, and fiber. We can also see it is high in calcium, providing 25% of daily value for that mineral.

Two odd things: This label does not mention information on trans fat or cholesterol. Even if the supplement has zero, they still need to list these values. Whether this is a typo or not, this should be corrected.

Beauty Whey Ingredients

There are 21 different ingredients in BeautyWhey. Here they are, in order as they appear on the label:

  1. Sunflower oil
  2. Sodium caseinate
  3. Mono-and diglycerides
  4. Dipotassium phosphate
  5. Tocopherols
  6. Micellar Casein
  7. Whey protein isolate
  8. Fructose
  9. Maltodextrin
  10. Inulin
  11. Natural and artificial flavors
  12. Creatine monohydrate
  13. Medium chain triglycerides
  14. modified food starch
  15. Taurine
  16. Red beet (for color)
  17. Potassium chloride
  18. Soy lecithin
  19. Xanthan gum
  20. Acesulfame potassium
  21. Sucralose

Ingredients listed at the top of this list are present the most while those occurring toward the end of the list are present the least.

Now, lets briefly discuss some of these ingredients.

Sunflower oil

This ingredient may be present to reduce the protein powder causing foam when it's mixed with water. It's a source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Sodium caseinate

This is another name for casein protein. Casein is one of the proteins in milk. It is a slower digesting protein and while it may not have much effect on muscle protein synthesis (building muscle), it helps reduce muscle breakdown. Casein protein also does not foam up like whey protein isolate can when mixed. Some call caseine a sustained release protein. This is another way of saying it's slower digesting.

Tocopherols

This refers to vitamin E. There are 4 different types of tocopherols. While they don't tell us, I'll assume BeautyWhey has a mixture of all of them.

Micellar Casein

This is another name for casein protein.

Fructose

This is sugar which is found in fruit. It's not the same thing as high fructose corn syrup but can raise triglycerides when used in excess. Unlike glucose, fructose does not stimulate insulin release.

Maltodextrin

This is a type of carbohydrate often added because it's a thickening agent and it's a somewhat sweet taste. When maltodextrin is digested, it's broken down into sugar.

Inulin

This is a type of soluble fiber. While it occurs naturally, it's often added to foods to increase the fiber content. Inulin is  sometimes used in supplements as a “pre-biotic.” Prebiotics are the food eaten by probiotic bacteria.

Natural and Artificial flavors

The company does not tell us what these flavors are. Companies don't have to tell us this.

Creatine Monohydrate

Creatine is a dietary supplement often found in muscle-building supplements. Creatine makes it possible to lift heavier weights. A side effect of creatine is it can cause weight gain. The gain is due to water retention but women should be aware of this when using Beauty Whey. The fact that Beauty Whey Protein has creatine makes me suspect they are marketing this supplement to active women who like to lift weights.

Taurine

Taurine is an amino acid, often found in energy drinks like 5 Hour Energy. There is research on taurine for many things. Since I think Beauty Whey is marketed as an exercise supplement (rather than a beauty supplement) my guess is taurine is present to help improve exercise.

How much taurine does Beauty Whey have? they don't tell us but since taurine is the 15th ingredient listed, there isn't much it present.

Xanthan gum

Xanthan gum is probably present to help keep Beauty Whey mixed together well.

Acesulfame potassium

This is an artificial sweetener also known as Acesulfame K, Sweet One and Sunett.

Sucralose

This is an artificial sweetener, better known as Splenda.

What's Nu Cream Powder?

If you read the ingredients list on your container, you saw “Nu Cream Powder” listed. This seems to be a made-up phrase that includes the first 5 ingredients in the protein powder. There is something called NuSun sunflower oil. Sunflower oil is the 1st ingredient listed in BeautyWhey. I wonder if Nu Cream Powder is a reference to NuSun?

Beauty Fit Whey Protein

Each scoop has 15 grams of protein. While whey appears in the name, Beauty Fit protein is a combination of casein and whey protein. There is more casein than whey in this protein powder since casein appears before whey in the ingredients list. Based on this, a better name for this protein powder would be “Beauty Fit Casein.”

Protein powders containing both whey and casein might be better than those containing either by themselves. Both whey and casein complement each other and this, in theory, provides a better overall effect. Beauty whey contains more casein than whey, just as milk does.

Whey vs. Caseine

Whey and casein have different effects on muscle growth. For example:

As stated above, both proteins together would be expected to be better than either by itself. From a protein powder perspective, casein causes less foaming when it's mixed in liquids. This reduces the volume when it's added to smoothies. (click to see my recipe).

Buy BeautyWhey Protein

Beauty Whey can be purchased directly from the company website – BeautyFit.com and I have seen it at Bed Bath and Beyond also. It can also be found at Walmart and Vitamin World. Currently, it's not sold at Target, Wegmans, GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Walgreens, RiteAid, Costco or Kroger.

Here it is on Amazon

Coupons for Beauty Fit supplements can be found online at various websites. When this review was created I saw coupons ranting from 25% off to 75% off the price of supplements.

Beauty Fit Flavors

Currently, the supplement comes in the following flavors: Bombshell Banana, Hawt Chocolate, Kissable Mint Chocolate, Luscious Lemon, Sexy Strawberry, Sin-O-Bun and Vixen Vanilla.

How Much Creatine?

Beauty Fit Whey contains creatine monohydrate. This is a muscle-building supplement that can help people lift heavier weights. How much creatine does BeautyWhey have? While the amount is not provided, because creatine is the 12th ingredient in the list, my hunch is not much. If I had to guess, I'd say the amount was somewhere between 2-5 grams per scoop.

Because creatine can cause weight gain (water weight) BeautyFit needs to do a better job at calling attention to this. Women who don't know about creatines effects and who buy this stuff on a whim at Bed Bath and Beyond may be shocked when they step on their bathroom scale. While weight gain varies, it can be between 2-15 pounds. Personally, I don't believe creatine should be in this supplement.

BeautyFit Whey Sweeteners

In order as they appear in the ingredients list above, here are sweeteners in this protein powder:

How Much Fructose?

Fructose is one of the sweeteners in Beauty Whey. Because fructose is listed first, its likely present more than the others in the product. While they don't tell us how much fructose is present, since it's #8 on the ingredients list, it's up there.

Fructose may be one of the main reservations some women may have against using Beauty Fit. While fructose is naturally occurring in fruits, there's not a lot of it present in foods and its effects on raising triglycerides are balanced by the fiber in those foods.

There isn't much fiber in BeautyFit Whey and I wonder what effect this would have on triglyceride levels? I don't know the answer to this.

See the NutriSystem Shake review for more insights.

Can Men Use It?

Despite the name “beauty” and the obvious references to women, I would not call this a woman's protein supplement. There is no reason why a man could not use BeautyFit Whey.  There are no estrogenic ingredients in this supplement and it will not lower testosterone levels. It will also not raise estrogen levels either.

BeautyFit Whey Calcium

A scoop of BeautyFit Whey contains 25% of a woman's daily value for calcium (242 mg). Calcium is likely added because the mantra woman need calcium for bones. Bone loss -and osteoporosis – is a complicated issue. It's not just about calcium.

Since BeautyFit Protein is marketed to women who likely work out, they probably also eat pretty well. As such, my guess is most women already get enough calcium in their diets.

Other BeautyFit Supplements

BeautyWhey is one of many BeautyFit supplements. Just a few others I saw at their website included:

So does BeautyWhey work better when combined with other BeautyFit supplements? Since there appears to be no evidence, either way, it's hard to tell. Having looked at their product list, some supplements you can save your money on.  My list o Beauty Fit supplements to avoid would include:

This is because they either don't work or have a risk of side effects.

Is Beauty Whey Vegan?

BeautyWhey contains milk protein so it's not vegan. But, there is a vegan version which contains pea protein.
Here's the vegan version of the protein powder

What About Weight Loss?

Can Beauty Whey help women lose weight? Protein is long touted to help weight loss and this is because it doesn't have many calories and because it takes a wee bit more energy to metabolize protein. That said, this supplement isn't exactly “low calorie.” Remember each scoop has 150 calories.

Reducing calories is the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. If, at the end of the day, fewer calories were consumed (through eating less and/or exercise) then weight loss should occur.

When weight loss is the goal, it's probably wise to increase protein intake a little bit to help reduce muscle loss which may accompany dieting.

Beauty Fit vs. The Competition

If we just look at the protein and calories, here's how Beauty Fit Whey stacks up against other popular brands of protein powder:

Calories (1 scoop) Protein (g)
BeautyWhey 150 15 g
Beauty Fit Vegan 120 24g
EAS 100% whey 80 15g
ON 100% whey 120 24g
Muscle milk 140 16g
Isopure zero carb 100 25g
Dymatize iso 100 whey 120 25g

I chose mostly whey protein powders since BeautyFit contains whey in its name. The exception is Muscle Milk, which is a combination of whey and casein.

Beauty Whey vs. Dr. Phoenyx Beauty Protein

You may have heard of another supplement called Dr. Phoenyx Fit Beauty Shop Beauty Protein. This is a supplement by Dr. Phoenyx Austin, MD. How do these two supplements compare to each other? Here is a basic rundown:

Beauty Whey (33g) Fit Beauty Shop  (15 g)
Calories 150 60
Calories from fat 8g 1g
Saturated fat 1g 0g
Trans fat not listed
Cholesterol not listed 31 mg
Sodium 125 mg 27 mg
Potassium 270mg not listed
Total carbohydrate 7g 1g
Dietary fiber 1g 0g
Sugars 4g 1g
Protein 15g 11g
Calcium 242 mg not listed

When comparing these supplements to each other remember the serving sizes are different.  One scoop of Beauty Whey is 33 grams while 1 scoop of Dr. Phoenyx Fit Beauty Shop Protein is only 15 grams. So if you double everything in Dr. Phoenyx Beauty Protein this will make it more similar to Beauty Whey.

Who Makes Beauty Fit?

The BeautyFit.com website was registered on 11/25/2000. The address for the company is 4747 North Nobhill Road #15 Sunrise, FL 33351. This is the same address as another company called MyoLabs (MyoLabsusa.com). The slogan for Myolabs is “advanced supplements for men.”

Both Beauty Fit and Myolabs have the same address: 4747 North Nobhill Road #15 Sunrise, FL 33351. The MyoLabs website was registered 11/13/2010. So, it looks like MyoLabs is a sub-company of BeautyFit.

The address appears to show a business park. I don't think this is where BeautyFit supplements are made. If you google the address you can see what the area looks like and other businesses which share this address.

Will It Improve Beauty?

Because the name “Beauty” is in the name, I wonder if some might think Beauty Fit Whey supplements will improve appearance. Will they make someone prettier? By appealing to vanity, the name is the product of very good marketing. But, there is no evidence BeautyFit Whey -by itself – will improve someones appearance.

Beauty Fit Whey Side Effects

Beauty Fit Whey protein looks pretty safe to me. In healthy people, I don't think there would be any problems. Those who are allergic to milk should speak to their doctor. Those with special dietary needs should consult a dietitian.

Because this supplement has creatine monohydrate, women may notice a gain in weight when they use this supplement. The weight gain may be noticeable after a month of use is due to water build up and not muscle growth.

Fructose might raise triglycerides and bad LDL cholesterol in some people.

To be safe, speak to your doctor if you are pregnant/breastfeeding and stop taking all supplements at least 2 weeks before having surgery unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Is Beauty Fit Whey The Best?

Whether or not Beauty Fit Whey is right for you is an individual decision. In terms of its protein, I think this supplement as good as any other protein powder containing casein and whey. This review covered the ingredients in BeautyFit Whey and hopefully helped you understand this supplement better. When considering using it for weight loss, remember Beauty Fit Whey contains creatine monohydrate which can cause people to gain weight. This can be a surprise for some women who did not expect this outcome, so keep it in mind when you use this supplement.
