Updated 8/2/21. Do Phentraburn slimming capsules really work? The name is obviously a reference to the weight loss drugs phentermine and Phen-Fen. Phentraburn is another in a long list of weight loss supplements from China. Does Phentraburn work? More importantly, does it burn fat? You'd think it would burn fat since “burn” is in the name! Let's take a close look at this weight loss supplement and see what we can figure out. Also, see the review of Phen375 for more information.
Phentraburn Ingredients
According to the website for the product (Phentraburn.com) the supplement is composed of the following ingredients:
- Xian Xian Ca
- Jobstears
- Artemisia Drancunculus
- Psyllium Husk
- Bamboo Shoot
- Lotus Leaf
- Medicinal Starch
- Mulberry Leaf Extract
These ingredients look very familiar. Several of them – Jobstears, Lotus Leaf, Mulberry Leaf extract – are ingredients found in Beautiful Slim Body and Zi Xiu Tang, which I have already reviewed. All of these ingredients work like laxatives.
Phentraburn also lists “medicinal starch” as an ingredient. Guess what that is? Well, In the weight loss supplement called Beautiful Slim Body, they called it Medicinal Amylum. Starch and Amylum are both starch – so these are the very same thing – just called different names. Didn’t they think we would notice this?
Other ingredients in Phentraburn
Xian Xian Cao. I'm not sure what the heck this stuff is. In my research, I did turn up an herb called Xi Xian Cao. I'm reasonably sure this is the herb they are referring to because the spelling is so similar. On one of the websites that discusses Xi Xian Cao, they say it “expels toxins”. Translation – it’s a laxative.
As for Artemisia Dracunculus, they spelled the name wrong on their website. The herb is spelled Artemisia dracunculus. Other names include Mugwort and Tarragon. I couldn't find one scrap of evidence that this stuff helps weight loss.
I couldn’t find much research at all on this herb but did see some references that in high doses it might cause cancer and may be toxic to the liver. There probably isn't much of this stuff in Phentraburn but I can only say that I personally would not use any product that contains this herb that might do this, especially when I have no guarantee of how much of the herb is being used.
Psyllium Husk
This is fiber – a laxative. Are you sensing a trend with the ingredients in Phentraburn…
Bamboo Shoot
Since bamboo is a plant, it has fiber. You know what fiber does – makes you poop!
The website also mentions that Phentraburn contains “a form of konjac extractive powder” This is the fancy name for Glucomannan. For more info on this ingredient read my Glucosulin review.
Glucomannan has been used in various weight loss supplements for decades.
On the product website, one bottle of Phentraburn costs $75. That is a lot for a fiber supplement if you ask me.
Phentraburn And The FDA
Update 11/7/11. On October 18, 2011, the FDA notified the public that Phentraburn contains sibutramine, a weight-loss drug that was removed from the US market because of safety reasons. Sibutramine – also known as Meridia – can raise heart rate and blood pressure and can be dangerous in people who have heart disease and /or high blood pressure.
In the FDA statement, they say that “Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away. Consumers who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a health care professional as soon as possible.”
How To Return Phentraburn?
I must thank one of the readers of my site for alerting me about this. If you buy Phentraburn and want to return it for a refund, you will have problems because there is no return address listed on the Phentraburn website. There is no phone number to call either.
There is a page that outlines their return policy but it doesn't list an address on where to return it. On the “Privacy Policy” page of the Phentraburn website, I did find this email address info@phentraburn.com.
But, when I tried to email Phentraburn at this email address, my email was immediately returned to me. My email was returned for this reason: “550 No Such User Here [RCPT_TO]” The “RCPT_To” means “mailbox is over quota.
Does It Work?
If Phentraburn works, it's probably because of the drug sibutramine rather than anything else. Sibutramine has been banned in the US because it's risky. Prescription and OTC drugs are also illegal in supplements. That fact alone makes me recommend you steer clear of Phentraburn. Your health is too important.
